Boynton Beach Police on Wednesday arrested a 61-year-old man who falsely told them that he was a U.S. Marshal. Officers had been called to Best Buy to trespass the man, who was observed shoplifting an iPhone X several days ago. When officers approached John O'Grady, they noticed a U.S. Marshals lapel pin on his suit. When they asked him if he was armed, he said yes. He told officers that he was a "federal Marshal.” When officers asked for his supervisor's name, he said he was not a law enforcement officer and the weapon was fake. It was determined to be a BB gun. O'Grady gave officers consent to search his car, where they located the iPhone X that had been previously stolen from the store. O'Grady, of Boynton Beach, was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and retail theft (grand) and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail.
