membership It’s been an amazing summer thus far and we have so much more to enjoy for the balance of the season. Our weekly socials, Wine Down Wednesdays and Friday Nights at the Linx, remain highlight events for all Club Members to enjoy! And on that subject, a special thanks to Chef Tim Kramer and his team for the culinary delights enjoyed by the Membership at each of these events, making them more memorable and special each week. Upcoming, we have a Luau planned for August 13th! Kaitlin has been working with the F&B team and the planning team to create a festive mid-summer sizzler! Please look for more details on the Club website, reservations will be required for this event. Also, it’s hard to believe, but the Labor Day Weekend Clambake is not too far off, so please mark your calendars and watch for more details and registration opening for this cornerstone event that closes out the summer season. What has been great about this summer has been the return of many social events. The July 4 Weekend BBQ & Pool party was a wonderful event and enjoyed by almost 200 Members! We have also had the opportunity to sprinkle in a couple of “Member Only” beach fires this summer that were enjoyed by many. The Sunday Sundae’s at MSC continues to be well attended, along with tennis and pickleball socials. The diversity of our social offerings hopefully provides opportunities for everyone to enjoy. One special note is for this year’s OEMGA Invitational Golf Tournament. This was a weekend to remember! Chef Phil Flath, Chef Tim Kramer, and their teams were outstanding at every event; coupled with the creative room sets by Amelia Ball and her team, the Club provided an extraordinary experience for our participating members and their guests. I believe our Club really showcased the “Ocean Edge Experience” throughout that 3-day weekend and is an event we can be proud of. Upcoming we have the OEWGA Invitational Member-Guest on August 1 and 2, followed by the OEWGA Charity Cocktail Party on August 5th to support the “We Can” charity. Two important events to once again show off our Club and provide an exceptional experience for our attending members and guests. It has been a wonderful summer thus far and thank you for being part of the Ocean Edge Club. membership The Ocean Edge Club continues to gain popularity throughout the lower Cape, as we are fortunate to welcome many new members from Orleans, Chatham, Harwich, and from our own backyard, Brewster. Our reach has expanded more recently into Mid-Cape, welcoming new members from Dennis and Yarmouth as well! Through our expanded reach, covering many local townships, we find our membership base growing on a year-round basis, estimating today we have approximately 37% of our Members living on the Cape as their primary residence. With a growing number of Club Members as year-round residents, it affords us greater opportunity to expand our programming for the Club to provide an even stronger Club community. Last month we welcomed 12-new Members to the Ocean Edge family. Eight of our newest members came to the Club from a referral of their friends who are already part of Ocean Edge! The best Clubs build from within their membership base, through family and friends! golf It is unbelievable that August is here already but that means it is Club Championship month!! We will have our Men’s and Ladies Club Championships on August 6th & 7th. We encourage those eligible to participate. You could be crowned our next Club Champion! It has been great to see so many golfers both new and old members out enjoying the golf course this year. Make your tee times now to get out and enjoy our great Jack Nicklaus course. The golf course remains in great shape and with the hotter temps arriving Craig and his team will be doing all they can to keep our course in beautiful shape. Please be aware if our maintenance staff are out hand watering areas on the golf course to make sure they see you before hitting. We want to keep everyone safe. Our PGA Junior League wrapped up last month with 16 juniors playing in matches against Cranberry Valley and Dennis Highlands throughout June and July. We want to grow this group next year and hope your juniors will join us. Information about our 2023 season will go out early next year but you can always visit www.pgajrleague.com to learn more about this great way to get juniors involved in the game. RACQUETS Tennis: Congratulations to our Ocean Edge Men's doubles champions: Greg Gulden & Chris Blackburn defeated Larry Keon and Dimitri Belov in the finals. Our Ocean Edge Ladies tennis team is currently 5-1 for this season and our newly formed Ocean Edge women's pickleball team is 0-2(but trending). Ocean Edge men's tennis team had their first match on July 23rd.

WELLNESS Tropi-Cobb salad Ingredients:
7 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 6 garlic cloves, crushed 4 skinless boneless chicken breast, 3/4" pieces kosher salt 1 tbsp curry powder 2 tbsp fresh lime juice 6 cups torn little gem lettuce 2 avocados, sliced 2 small mangoes, sliced 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved sea salt, red pepper flakes, basil or mint to garnish
Directions:
Step 1: Heat 2 Tbsp. oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium. Add garlic and cook, tossing occasionally, until golden brown all over, about 5 minutes. Increase heat to medium-high. Season chicken with kosher salt and add to skillet. Cook, tossing occasionally, until chicken is golden brown and nearly cooked through, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add vadouvan. Toss several times and let chicken sit in skillet until cooked through, about 1 minute longer. Transfer to a plate and let cool slightly. Step 2: Whisk lime juice and remaining 5 Tbsp. oil in a small bowl; season with kosher salt. Arrange lettuce, chicken, avocado, mango, onion, and tomatoes on a platter. Drizzle with dressing. Top with sea salt, red pepper flakes, and herbs.
AGRONOMY
As we turn the page to August, we now have entered our third straight summer season with moderate drought conditions. Water is one of the most important inputs to maintaining healthy turfgrass. Over the last three years, large investments have been made to help greatly improve our irrigation system. We started in January of 2020 embarking on a project to replace over 2,000 PVC fittings to our irrigation pipe. This would stop the high amounts of breaks that were occurring in 2019. We also upgraded our Rain Bird satellite controls to a LINK900 program. This allows for better communication from our central computer to each individual satellite, and greatly improves our overnight irrigation accuracy. Below are pictures of the work to replace PVC fittings.
AGRONOMY In the spring of 2021, we began building new access to water with the installation of a new well. This gave us a new source of water as well as installing state of the art vertical turbine pump to deliver the water out to the irrigation system. Below the new well is being constructed.
Now in the summer of 2022, we are building a new pump control panel. This panel controls our 3 irrigation pumps by using variable frequency drives (VFD). The VFDs allow a better and more efficient operation of our irrigation pumps. Over the last 3 years, two of our existing wells have also been redeveloped and had brand new submersible pumps and motors installed. The redevelopment allows for the well to produce a higher gallon per minute (GPM) of water. Over time of constant use, sand will start to clog the screen in the well reducing our GPM. The redevelopment process cleans and treats the well returning its GPM to its Original levels. While much of this work may go unnoticed, it is vital to the success of the golf course. With drought conditions becoming more common, we need to be able to supplement irrigation to the golf course. While we will never be able to replace natural rainfall, these improvements will help to aid in supplemental irrigation in times of drought. Sincerely, Craig Sullivan
