Happy Valentine's Day!
FEBRUARY 2023
February has kicked off with a bit of snow on Cape Cod. Not a lot, but enough to remind us that despite the mild temperatures these past couple of weeks, we are still in the height of Winter.
As previously noted, being in the “down” time for the Club and Resort, many projects are taking place throughout the property. Currently, the following projects are either completed or very near completion:
Bayside Indoor Pool. The Bayside Indoor Pool has been repainted and the pool is now full, with water flowing and slowly being brought back to temperature. It is expected that by Tuesday, February 7th, the pool will be back to 85 degrees.
Keeping in the Bayside Indoor Pool, the new dehumidification, heating, and cooling system has been installed The electrician is doing the system's final work and is expected to be fired up on Thursday, February 2nd. Also, the glass sliders within the pool have all been replaced with new ones. It is a significant upgrade in terms of the appearance of the pool. However, with the new system in place, the sliders will need to remain closed at all times. Keeping the sliders closed, the system will be able to keep the pool deck at the proper temperature and with the best air quality for you to enjoy the pool.
Later on, during the first week of February, the final touch for the Bayside Indoor pool renovation will be completed, and that is to reseal the pool deck. Over the years, the chlorinated water erodes the seal on the pool decking which can cause deterioration. This two-day project will reseal the deck to keep it looking great for the next few years.
The new fitness equipment for the Member Sports Club and Bayside studio has arrived and been installed. This project had minimal impact on the use of the facilities and the feedback received thus far has been fantastic. The new screens on the bikes and treadmills provide different scenery and courses to navigate, and are easy to use! The new equipment is certainly a significant upgrade and welcome addition to the fitness center.
February 14th, Valentine's Day, is the next Member Dining Night at Bayzo’s Pub. Kathy Sullivan will be reaching out to the many regulars who attend this evening, however, please note that you can also register online through the Club Member website. On January 10th, we had 36 Members enjoy the evening at Bayzo’s, so hopefully, we can keep that momentum going into February and March!
February is a busy month at the Club. School vacation week has an action-packed schedule for all the young wizards! Please check on the Club website or the Ocean Edge Website for more details.
Thank you for being part of the Ocean Edge Club!
Sincerely,
Michael Medeiros

GOLF
As February rolls around, we wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day and hope you get the chance to spend it with your special valentine.
We have seen some wet and cold weather on the Cape this winter, but you can play golf in some warmer climates through the Troon Prive Program. As a Troon Prive Club, we can play some great courses across the country and beyond. Head to the Troon website (www.troonprive.com) to take advantage.
As we get closer to opening day and the prospect of better weather on the horizon, now is the time to join the OEWGA & OEMGA. Our Ladies & Men’s associations are a great way to get involved with golf here at Ocean Edge. Please find information regarding applications, and by-laws on our Ocean Edge Club’s Member website.
Please let us know if you need anything. Golf Shop 774-323-6200 or email me at shayne.sakson@oceanedge.com

Tree work is the focus this time of year. Improving turf health, playability, and safety are all considerations taken into account when selecting trees for removal and/or pruning.
These trees removed and pruned were starting to encroach on ball flight corridors. Trees that may not have had an effect on play during the redesign in 06-07 have had 17 years to grow higher and broader. These removals will allow for different angles of attack on holes. It will help to allow more sunlight on our turf while also reduce competition for water and nutrients, trees will always outcompete turf.
Below we removed trees on the right side of the 6th hole, this will help to improve turf quality. Before and after pictures below of removals on the 9th fairway to help reopen playing corridors.
Hazard trees can be some of the most difficult trees to identify. Below is the trunk of what we thought was a “healthy” tree that was being removed for playability reasons. We are lucky to get this tree on the ground as the tree had begun to rot from the inside out and once the trunk loses its structural sturdiness it is only a matter of time.
Best,
Craig Sullivan

February is National Heart Month!
What Is American Heart Month?
After a request from Congress, President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed the first American heart health month in February 1964. It has been celebrated in the USA every year since. Fundraising and heart health awareness events take place all over the country during February. For example, this year, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and The Heart Truth® are partnering to run the #OurHearts movements throughout the month. You can get involved with the campaign by using this hashtag on Twitter and Facebook. The #OurHearts campaign is broken down into weekly themes, as follows:
Week One: Be Physically Active
At the start of February's heart month, the campaign encourages people to get together to be more physically active. You could organize a group walking session, take a new gym class, or even get a team together for a sporting event. Decide how you want to get active!
Week Two: Eat Healthier
Eating well is a smart way to protect your heart’s health. During the second week of the campaign, those taking part are encouraged to learn more about heart-healthy foods. The key is cooking balanced meals at home and inviting friends over for dinner.
Week Three: Track Your Heart Health Stats
Use your smartphone or a wearable tracker to see how well your heart is performing.
Week Four: Manage Stress, Sleep Better, and Quit Smoking
The campaign's final week combines all the ways you can protect your heart. Better sleep, less stress, and quitting smoking are smart places to start. Don’t forget to share your results on social media.
Why Does American Heart Month Matter?
One in four deaths in the USA is caused by heart disease, so this is a critical national issue. However, recent research suggests that many people lack education about cardiovascular conditions and their warning signs. American Heart Month aims to address the lack of awareness by getting us all thinking about how we can keep our hearts healthy.
Best, Heidi and the MSC team
