CLUB MANAGER Happy New Year Everyone!

We hope that you and your family had a safe and healthy Holiday season. It is hard to believe that we continue to deal with a pandemic that started almost 2 years ago.

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Member Holiday Party we hosted back in December. We know how important social events are to everyone and we are looking forward to sharing dates for the 2022 season later this month.

We also will be reaching out to those members who have expressed an interest in being a part of the 2022 Advisory Board very shortly. We are looking forward to speaking with everyone who is interested and welcoming them to the Advisory Board.

Happy New Year and all the best wishes for you and your family for the upcoming year. We too are looking forward to the New Year with a robust social and recreations calendar throughout 2022. Hopefully, you had a wonderful New Year’s celebration, either here at the Ocean Edge Club or at home with family and friends. Welcome to an exciting New Year!

Looking ahead to 2022, I believe the Club will have another strong year, similar to 2021, with new member joins supported by our member referrals. In 2021, the Club joined 24 new members through personal referrals, and I am excited to see 2022 match that success. Hopefully, you have all seen the announcement and posting of the proposed Member parking area that has been submitted to the town planning board. We are hopeful that this convenience for our members will pass but we do need your support. It is my understanding that opposition from abutters has mounted so if we are going to be successful, every Member’s voice is important to be heard. Please take a moment to draft a letter of support for this initiative. For your convenience, draft letters are available to review on the Member website, www.oceanedgeclub.com, along with the email address to the Town Administrator. parking proposal Dear Club Members, We are all very familiar with the parking limitations that exist at the Club, specifically on the Mansion side of the property. Accordingly, we have developed a plan to benefit our Club Members with the construction of a dedicated parking lot, but we need your support.

We are planning to go before the Brewster Planning Board to request a Special Permit/Site Plan Review to construct a parking lot on an adjacent parcel of land known as the Nickerson Lot, which is adjacent to the current Mansion parking area, accessible from the exiting drive of Ocean Edge. We have attached our proposed parking plan that will be submitted to the Planning Board.

The purpose of this proposed 153 space parking lot is to provide much needed parking for Ocean Edge Club members when using the Club facilities on the Mansion side of the property. It is our intent that the parking lot use would be limited to Club members, accompanied guests of members, and for Member events where the additional parking is required.

We plan to submit our application to the Planning Board on December 15th, for a hearing date on January 26th. The Planning Board hearing is a virtual meeting. We will post a link to the hearing on the Member website once it becomes available.

In the meantime, I have attached sample letters of support, with the Brewster Planning Board email address for your convenience to submit. We do expect there to be local neighborhood opposition to this request, and your support is essential if we are to be successful in providing this added convenience for our Members.

I hope your holidays were enjoyable and safe!

There is still a lot going on at Ocean Edge. There are daily events for your enjoyment on the Mansion side and Heidi and her team are keeping many of us healthy at the Member Sports Club. Of course, the indoor pools at Bay Pines and Fletcher continue to be open and utilized by many.

If I may make a personal recommendation from lots of experience I would strongly suggest enjoying the Frost Bar and the fantastic menus offered in the Igloos. This is a truly unique experience and wonderful fun for the entire family.

Chris Thomas, Tarun Rajain, and Chef Phil are finalizing the Member Social calendar and this schedule should be coming your way in the near future.

I am happy to report that the days are officially getting longer which means that Spring is around the corner. That corner could involve some frigid weather and snow but the optimist in me likes to think Spring is on the way.

GOLF The Golf department would like to wish you and your families a very Happy New Year as we put a close to the 2021 season here at Ocean Edge. It was truly my pleasure to be a small part of the Ocean Edge family that strives to serve our membership. I am honored to be the Director of Golf and look forward to my second season in 2022.

As we move into the next year, be on the lookout for OEMGA & OEWGA calendars and event registrations popping up. We will start to send save the date flyers and soon start the weekly golf emails that will detail results, weekly events, and registrations opening soon. Those interested in joining our associations can find registration and information on the members' website. We anticipate another great season of events filled with golf, camaraderie, and competition.

Director of F U N Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year and I am super excited about what will be happening here at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club in 2022!!

Lots of fun filled activities for the whole family and friends, tons of FUN and laughter throughout! We will be having a lot of scavenger hunts, karaoke parties, trivia fun nights and much, much more to see as you make your way to the resort for tons of FUN! 2022 will be my first full year here at Ocean Edge and I want to bring my cruise ship style of events right to the grounds here to make it a great time, every time you are at the resort! From my Love and Marriage show for the adults, to some fun arts and craft activities for the kids and of course this upcoming February kids break for my Tournament Style Wizarding week! I will be bringing the fun for all ages to enjoy get out and act a fool! The more who show up to the events and activities the more fun there will be had for everyone!

Our Friday night Artists of the Cape will continue every Friday night from 5-7pm whether it is a workshop or an exhibit you can learn and live what it is like to be an incredible artist here on Cape Cod. Thursday’s will bring out the singer in you as we have karaoke every single Thursday night from 8-10pm in the amazing speakeasy Bayzo's Pub! Speaking of Pubs, I will be having my weekly pub quizzes for the ones who love to learn and see if they know more than they thought they did! Sports trivia will be happening every Tuesday night at 7pm in the Frost bar for those sports fanatics and of course as we do know the Winter Olympics are coming up and we might have some fun-filled outdoor winter activities happening as well!

FITNESS Dear Members, As we approach 2022, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for an amazing 2021. This year has been filled with a multitude of challenges and victories. We welcomed the in-person classes back to our studio and continued to enhance our fitness programs with the addition of Tai Chi classes.

It made our days to see so many of our member families enjoying our MSC amenities. The success of the MSC is based on the relationships we have built over the years, and we really wouldn’t be where we are without you.

FITNESS Reasons to Exercise Regularly this Winter With the influx of cookies, cakes, pies, and alcoholically fueled social events we all need to balance out the increase in available calories with a huge dose of willpower or some seriously energetic workouts.

To maximize your calorie-burning potential you should participate in 30 minutes to 45 minutes of vigorous exercise 3 - 5 x per week. If you are a beginner to exercise and your Doc says you’re good to go, start with 5-10 min. Don’t forget to check your heart rate. Ask your Doctor or Primary Care Physician what your target range should be while working out, Work up slowly, and before you know it you will be adding minutes and or/miles!

Positive Body Image to Combat SAD (SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER) Exercise can make you feel better about yourself by optimizing your physical condition and helping you to reach a healthy weight. Don’t let that lack of daylight make you want to be in bed at 5pm. Instead, try adding in a small afternoon workout or activity. It can just be another walk, or stretch, swim, cycle whatever you choose. You’ll get the blood flowing and help curb that urge to sit on the couch and grab the first carbohydrates you see. Be sure to hydrate with water all day!

Energy Boost = Mood Enhancement Staying motivated can be tough especially if you feel sluggish or fatigued first thing in the morning. A good way to start the day on a positive note is to improve your energy levels with Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or Yoga. All three increase energy levels and reduce tension using breathing patterns and movement.

Exercise is not just about weight loss. Make 2022 the year you invest in yourself physically and mentally. Focus on your overall wellness goals and make the commitment. You are worth it!

WELLNESS To get started, here is one of my favorite dinners to kick 2022 off right!

Skinny bruschetta Chicken Ingredients:

3 or 4 Chicken Breasts 4 or 5 Small Tomatoes, Chopped 1 Clove Garlic, Minced 1 tsp Olive Oil 1 tsp Balsamic Vinegar 1/8 tsp Sea Salt Handful of Basil, Chopped

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (if you choose to bake your chicken rather than grill.) Sprinkle some salt and pepper over the top, cover and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes (depending on the size of your breasts) until juices run clear.

Step 2: Meanwhile, combine chopped tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt and basil in a bowl. Refrigerate until chicken is ready to be served. To serve, spoon over top of chicken.

Nutrition Facts Serving Size: 1 Chicken Breast + 1/3 Cup Bruschetta Calories: 176 Carbs: 8.1g Fiber: 2.3g Protein: 27.6g WW Points: +4

AGRONOMY January Update While the golf season closes that doesn’t mean the work stops for the Agronomy team.

Once flags are pulled and tee markers stored for the winter, we have an important winterization task to put the course to bed properly. Greens and Tees surface receive the last wintertime plant health spray. We apply a fungicide that helps protect us from snow mold diseases. We also add a dark green pigment to the spray. The pigment helps to absorb heat from the sun which will help come spring by increasing crown temperature. The increased temperatures will help the turf come out of dormancy sooner. Below our first assistant superintendent, Dan Feder is applying the winter spray to the 10th green.

The closure also allows us to target some projects to the golf course. The walk up to 4 tee was an area that need to be addressed. We stripped away the existing turf to find a hardpan layer of soil that was not allowing water to drain. We loosened the subsoil with an excavator, then add 4-5 inches of topsoil before sodding. Below are pictures of the work to the 4th tee.
