CLUB MANAGER Good Afternoon Members, While the calendar says March, it still feels and looks like winter. We hope the weather changes quickly and we get to have an early spring!

We continue to work on getting events scheduled, hiring and recruiting staff, and fixing and repairing items for the upcoming season. We know things are going to go quickly now that the calendar has changed to March. Before too long we are going to be talking about the golf course opening up for the year and welcoming everyone back.

I know a lot of members have been utilizing the Troon Prive and Advantage programs this off-season which is great to see. Sometimes it is challenging to always get the exact day and time you are looking for but just a reminder, for most of the clubs being requested, this is their busy season, and they try to balance the requests as well as their memberships. I do appreciate your patience and understanding.

I'm looking forward to kicking the upcoming season off very soon. Please keep an eye out for emails about the course opening for the season as well as other information about the upcoming season.

Welcome, all!!

If you live on the Cape year-round you experienced a true blizzard a couple of weeks ago! I love a good storm and this one did not disappoint, the nice part about being on the Cape is the snow all but disappeared a week later.

I am very pleased to announce a "changing of the guard" as it relates to your Advisory Board. After 5 years on the Board and 4 years chairing the same, I will be passing the baton to the very capable hands of Karen Lacouture who will take over this Spring. I would like to thank Gail Scudellari for her 4 years of tenure on the Board and for acting as ViceChair this past couple of years. Gail has done terrific work for all members and for our Club in general. Assuming her position as Vice-Chair will be Jill Cosgrove so your Board will have excellent leadership in place.

In addition, I would like to thank Steve Lane and Eric Barber for their tenure on the Board. I would also like to welcome our new Advisory Board members as follows: Howard Curtin, Chris Scudellari, Candace White, and Peter Van Oot. I would also like to thank Bob Newman and Chris Thomas and the outstanding management team at Ocean Edge for the support they have given our Advisory Board. Their leadership and cooperation have helped our Board make substantial progress and improvements to our Club and resort.

GOLF Happy March!

Friday, March 25th will be our first official day of the 2022 Golf Season here at Ocean Edge, weather dependent. I cannot believe opening day is almost here.

We anxiously await the warmer weather and getting our members out onto the golf course. The Golf Staff and Outside Operations Staff are rounding out with some familiar faces as well as some new ones. We are excited to start the 2022 Season here at OE. If you have not signed up for the OEWGA or OEMGA the season is quickly approaching in early May. Our Ladies & Men’s associations are a great way to get involved with golf here at Ocean Edge. Please find information regarding applications, calendars, and by-laws on our Ocean Edge Club’s Member website.

As a Troon Prive Club, we have the opportunity to play some great courses across the country and beyond. Head to the Troon website (www.troon.com) under prive privileges to see a full listing of eligible courses.

Director of F U N Good Morning, Afternoon, and Goodnight from Ocean Edge!

It is Brandon, your Director of FUN here to tell you all about how we are going to get lucky in March! What do you say? Well, this month is the Taste of Ireland and we have a jam-packed calendar filled with fun activities all Irish-related!

We will have trivia daily every day at the Frost bar! Tuesday will be Sports trivia at 7:00pm, Wednesday will be Try your Luck Trivia at 7:00pm, Thursday will be General Knowledge trivia at 4:00pm and Friday’s will be Music trivia at 4:00pm as well!

There will be some amazing lectures/classes going on throughout the month starting March 5th with Andrea Bunar who is a fantastic photographer with her exhibit at 2:00pm and then an Irish Mythology teacher Mary Ann March 12th, 19th, and 26th at 3:00pm giving you a chance to learn all about Irish Mythology like you have never learned before! There will be mixology every Saturday afternoon as well starting at 4:00pm with Sue your bartender extraordinaire!

On 3 separate Sundays we will be having the Kanaley Irish Dance School performing in the ballroom for your entertainment on March 6th & 20th starting at 1:00pm with free lessons following at 1:30pm, then March 13th they will do a performance at 2:30pm with lessons following at 3:00pm. Our glass etching artist Elizabeth Natale will be doing Pint Glass Etching on March 6th at 2:00pm, March 13th at 2:00pm and on St Paddy’s Day at 5:00pm in the Mansion! Make sure to email activities@oceanedge.com to sign up for these fun classes!

Many things will be happening throughout the month of March especially as well as my own Love and Marriage show on March 5th for those adults who want a fun night of laughter and enjoyment as well! This will be happening in the Ballroom and you can sign up through the email above to get yourself in for all the fun!!

FITNESS March Madness Challenges Here's a good challenge! Remove the temptation so you can work on making healthier choices and eating healthier. Clean out your fridge, pantry, and cupboards of any super tempting junk foods, then set yourself up for success by stocking up on healthy snacks!

Here’s another one, for 7 days, drink NOTHING but water! No soda, coffee, alcohol, Crystal Lite, Gatorade, Propel. Zilch, zero, nada. Just straight H20. Most of us don't get enough plain water. The water-only challenge will help us hydrated, keep our skin feeling/looking great, and does our bodies good!

Take the month of March to commit to setting a few health or fitness goals. It doesn't necessarily need to be weight loss or running a marathon. It can be as simple as drinking more water, getting more sleep, or stretching more. The point is to challenge yourself and above all, HAVE FUN! Break your goal down into weekly goals to help you be successful and ALWAYS celebrate the LITTLE WINS!!!

WELLNESS Quick "Corned" Beef & Cabbage

“Traditional corned beef & cabbage sure is tasty, but it's typically loaded with preservatives and sodium. In this healthy recipe makeover, we slash more than 2,300 mg of sodium with our quicker twist on the St. Patrick's Day classic. To get great flavor without the additives found in store-bought corned beef, we rub ground pickling spice onto steak instead.”

Ingredients:

2 tbsp pickling spice 1 tsp dry mustard 1 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp ground pepper, divided 1/2 small cabbage, cored & cut into wedges 8 small carrots, trimmed 2 cups halved baby potatoes 4 tbsp EVOO, divided 2 tbsp white vinegar 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill, plus more for garnish 1 tsp whole-grain mustard 1 pound skirt steak, trimmed

Directions: Step 1: Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit Step 2: Grind pickling spice in a clean spice grinder (or coffee grinder); transfer to a small bowl and combine with dry mustard, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Toss cabbage, carrots, and potatoes in a large bowl with half the spice mixture and 2 tablespoons of oil. Transfer to a large rimmed baking sheet. Roast, stirring once, until tender, 25 to 30 minutes.

Step 3: Meanwhile, whisk 1 tablespoon oil, vinegar, dill, mustard, and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a small bowl. Set the vinaigrette aside.

Step 4: About 10 minutes before the vegetables are done, cut steak in half crosswise (if it's one long piece) and rub with the remaining spice mixture. Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak, turning once, 2 to 3 minutes per side for mediumrare. Let rest on a clean cutting board for 5 minutes, then thinly slice against the grain.

Step 5: Drizzle the roasted vegetables with the vinaigrette and serve with the steak.

Tips: Cut Down on Dishes: A rimmed baking sheet is great for everything from roasting to catching accidental drips and spills. For effortless cleanup and to keep your baking sheets in tip-top shape, line them with a layer of foil before each use.

AGRONOMY As we turn the page to March, the agronomy team has been wrapping up tree work while dodging winter storms. After months of tree removal and pruning, we have been busy disposing of the debris. A wood chipper was rented to deal with branch debris that was created. Below you will see the chipper in action chipping the debris from a pine tree removal on the 1st hole.

The larger debris that cannot be processed through the chipper is pictured below being hauled off the golf course.

The removals and pruning will bring great improvement to playability and safety throughout the course for the upcoming season and beyond. As the start of the season nears, we are completing the finishing touches to course accessories. Ball washers are pictured below receiving their final coat of paint, by our first assistant, Dan Feder, to give a refreshed look.

We are hoping March weather will be kind to us as we start to prepare the property for opening day. We look forward to seeing golf balls in the air soon!
