At the northern end of the Napa Valley and with a backdrop that includes the Palisades, Mount St. Helena, and the Mayacamas, family-owned Bennett Lane Winery produces award-winning wines, many of which have garnered 90-plus points from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.

In addition to incredible wines, Bennett Lane is widely known as one of the best tasting experiences in the Valley with a comfortable and welcoming ambiance. General Manager Stefanie Longton said the winery takes pride in welcoming guests and giving them the red (wine) carpet treatment.

“We want guests to have fun when they come to visit,” says Longton. “Our vibe is friendly

and our tastings are incredibly laid-back, and completely nonintimidating.”

Founded in 2003 by Randy and Lisa Lynch, Bennett Lane Winery was inspired by Italy’s wine and food culture with a winemaking philosophy that produces wines that complement a meal rather than overshadow it. The results include succulent Cabernets and their signature “red feasting wine”

Maximus, which demonstrates the Lynch’s commitment to making wine an integral part of entertaining with family and friends.

Bennett Lane’s wines are crafted to be approachable, yet complex – or what owner Randy Lynch calls “the best of both worlds, meaning you can drink them today, but they are structured enough to cellar for several years.

While the winery’s succulent

red wines are among the best in the Valley, as the weather begins to warm and taste buds crave lighter fare, tastings move into the beautiful garden framed by glorious roses and adjacent to the lush vineyards. The elusive White Maximus, available exclusively at the winery, is just the ticket. This small-production wine (less than 300 cases) is not available on the tasting flight, and sell out in a matter of weeks after release. The White Maximus is the perfect white blend for summer, with 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 9% Chardonnay, and 1% Muscat. Bennett Lane’s off-thebeaten-track location and friendly tasting room offers a “secret gem” to Napa visitors and a great way to learn about – and try – some of Napa’s best wines in a more intimate setting.

Signature Seated Tasting

A fabulous introduction to Bennett Lane Winery is through their signature seated tasting in the winery garden. Enjoy incredible views of the Palisades Mountains while tasting four of their signature wines, including Chardonnay, Maximus Red Feasting Wine, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Reserve Seated Tasting

The Reserve Seated Tasting is a private tasting in the winery garden that features four Reserve wines: the Chardonnay and three Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. This experience is for groups of 2-6 people to discover the wines and history of the winery. A personal wine educator will pour four small-lot wines at a leisurely pace, allowing guests the opportunity to sip and learn the full story of each bottling – the winemaking, fruit sourcing, cellaring and more. This tasting is a classic example of the hospitality for which Bennett Lane is known.

Wine Blending Experience

For guests who’d like a more hands-on approach, check out the Wine Blending Experience. This begins with a sensory evaluation seminar focused on Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah – the principal components in Bennett Lane’s signature red Maximus blend – followed by the fun opportunity to blend a bottle of Maximus Red Feasting Wine. Once the blend finalized guests will also bottle, cork, foil, and label their very own individual bottle (one per person). The experience concludes with a glass of each guest’s blend and a tasting of reserve wines.

New Culinary Experiences are Coming to Napa’s Renowned Priest Ranch

Napa Valley’s Somerston Estate will launch The Kitchen at Priest Ranch this summer with Dan Solomon taking the reins as Executive Chef. Under the accomplished Chef’s watchful eye, the plan is to elevate the wine and dining experience across the brand’s multiple venues including the Priest Ranch tasting room in downtown Yountville, the private culinary events at Somerston Estate, the sprawling 1,682-acre compound in Napa’s eastern Vaca Mountain range, as well as The Kitchen at Priest Ranch, the highly anticipated restaurant adjacent the tasting room.

As one of Napa’s premiere wine estates, the appointment brings to the table a focus on approachable cuisine from a chef with an impressive resume that juxtaposes his Michelin-starred experience with his humble Midwestern roots. Guests can expect a casual yet delectable menu that perfectly complements the Priest Ranch portfolio of wines.

Originally settled in 1869 by Gold Rush prospector, James Joshua Priest, today’s Priest Ranch was established in 2007 to produce premium wines that embody the essence of Napa Valley. From the trailblazing mindset of its first pioneers to today’s spirit of agricultural excellence and preservation, co-founder,

viticulturalist, and winemaker Craig Becker draws on the variety of elevations, exposures, microclimates, and soils to expertly guide the estate fruit into awardwinning wines.

Chef Dan will draw from his passion for fermentation, affinity for Chicagostyle dishes, and high-quality, seasonal ingredients to bring his concept and vision to The Kitchen. Born and raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, Chef Dan’s culinary journey began at the young age of 16 when he began making pizza and pasta at a small mom and pop shop outside of the city. After studying Culinary Arts at Kendall College, he honed his craft in diverse settings throughout the greater Chicago area. His appointment at Somerston Estate marks a return to Napa Valley, having previously worked at the

esteemed La Toque restaurant, where he first cultivated a profound understanding of the intricate relationship between food and wine.

Ecstatic about his new appointment, Chef Dan said, “I believe that food and wine go hand in hand and I look forward to creating a casual yet delicious menu to complement the award-winning portfolio of Priest Ranch wines. Rhone Rangers Honors FREDERIC CLINE with Lifetime Achievement Award

The national Rhone Rangers will present its seventh Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday, June 24, to recognize the significant contributions made by an individual to the American Rhone wine movement. This year’s honor will be bestowed to Frederic Cline, founder and owner of Cline Family Cellars in Sonoma. Cline is also one of the original founders of the Rhone Rangers organization.

Anative of Los Angeles, Frederic Cline spent his summers as a teenager in Contra Costa County at his grandfather Valeriano’s farm. Valeriano, an Italian immigrant, shared with Cline a European approach to winemaking, and taught him how to farm grapes with care and intention. This sparked a lifelong love of agriculture and winemaking, with Cline attending U.C. Davis to study viticulture.

In 1982, Frederic Cline started Cline Family Cellars in Oakley, California, making his first vintages from original plantings of head-trained and dry-farmed Mourvèdre, Zinfandel, and Carignane, with some plantings dating back to the 1880s. In 1989, Cline and his wife Nancy purchased a 350-acre horse ranch property in the Los Carneros region of Sonoma County, which is home to the present-day location of Cline Family Cellars. Cline’s love for Rhone varietals led him to initially plant Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne, which were viewed with skepticism at the time.

To help raise awareness for these obscure varietals, Cline copioneered, with other industry legends, the original Rhone Rangers. Cline has devoted his career to sustainable farming practices in the vineyard, the preservation of heritage vineyards in Contra Costa, and to his passion for sharing the highest quality Rhone-style wines with the world at accessible price points. Cline Family Cellars will celebrate forty-one years in business this year. “It is a great pleasure that the Rhone Rangers have the privilege of honoring foundational leaders in the wine industry with the Lifetime Achievement honor. Fred and his family have never wavered from their dedication to crafting fine wines from the classic Rhone varieties. They have built a foundation for all Rhone Rangers making wines from these varieties in the United States today,” noted national Rhone Rangers President Craig Camp of Troon Vineyard.

Past Rhone Rangers Lifetime Achievement honors have been awarded to notable Rhone wine luminaries, including Randall Grahm –Bonny Doon Vineyard (2013), Robert Haas – Tablas Creek Vineyard (2014), Robert “Bob” Lindquist – Qupé/Lindquist Family Wines (2015), Bill Easton –Terre Rouge (2016), Sondra Bernstein – the girl and the fig (2017), and Gary Eberle -Eberle Winery (2021).

Founded in 1998, the Rhone Rangers are a group of 100+ wineries throughout the United States dedicated to making wines from the 22 grape varieties originally made famous in France’s Rhône Valley. These varieties range from the better-known Syrah and Viognier to the upand-coming Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Roussanne, and obscure grapes like Counoise and Picpoul.

The Rhone Rangers started from a small gathering of American vintners who began meeting informally in the 1980s. As their numbers expanded, the non-profit organized under the name “Rhone Rangers,” with a focus on promoting the enjoyment of Rhône varietal wines produced in the United States. These grapes include the 22 traditional varieties approved by the French government for the Côtes du Rhône, as well as Durif (Petite Sirah). For a wine to qualify as a Rhone Rangers wine, the winery must be a member of the national organization and 75% of the wine’s content must include one or more of the twenty-two traditional Rhone grape varieties.

Summer Gala

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Frederic Cline during the Rhone Rangers Summer Gala evening wine dinner, to be held at Cline Family Cellars on June 24. The evening will include eminent speakers from the Rhone wine community and a stellar selection of Cline Family wines, in the exquisite outdoor setting of Cline Family Cellars. Tickets are $250 per person and include a multi-course dinner, in addition to VIP Access to reserve wines at the afternoon tasting.

Frank for a Cause 2023 Program Will Help American Military Veterans Heal Through Service Dogs

Frank Family Vineyards’ Founders Rich and Leslie Frank are pleased to announce the Napa-based winery will continue its support of K9s For Warriors through 2023 as part of the winery’s ongoing Frank for a Cause charitable giving campaign. K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of trained service dogs for military veterans. This cause speaks to Frank Family’s inherent commitment and love for dogs and the American veteran community, and honors Founder Rich Frank’s late father, Hy, who proudly served in World War II.

In November 2022, Frank Family Vineyards raised $25,000 to support K9s For Warriors’ mission to end veteran suicide through the healing power of service dogs – saving two lives at once, our American heroes and shelter dogs. This year, the winery team is proud to be sponsoring their very own four-legged hero, Frankie, who will soon be an important element in a veteran’s road to recovery. This sponsorship will provide veterinary care, equipment, and training Frankie needs to become a life-saving service dog for a veteran with PTSD.

Think Cabernet is the dancing partner of beef alone? Chef Britny Maureze of Sequoia Grove will show you what a versatile dance partner Cabernet can be, even if you’re a vegetarian or a pescatarian. “Everyone thinks that Cabernet pairs only with beef,” says Maureze. “Sure, it’s a fantastic match for beef’s richness and fat, but it’s my goal to show you how versatile it can be with a range of foods.” She’s been known to pair crispy skinned black cod over caramelized parsnip puree, Beluga lentils and fennel and apple relish, with an earthy Tonella Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and duck confit with mole rojo and pickled vegetables with a Christian Vineyard Cabernet. With the winery’s flagship Cambium blend, Maureze nails it with Denver steak and a voluptuous Bernaise sauce.

Frank Family Vineyards in Napa just opened their brand-new Miller House, which is the site for the winery’s most exclusive and elevated experiences. Frank Family wines from winemaker Todd Graff are poured alongside the cuisine of celebrity Chef Christina Machamer. The wines at Imagery Estate Winery are as food friendly as their lush lawns are ready for a picnic. The Bruschetteria food truck at Clif Family serves a unique and ever-changing menu of bruschette, porchetta, rotisserie chicken, farm fresh salads and seasonal sides at the St. Helena tasting room. 2019 Ledson Moon Mountain District Cabernet Franc Takes Home Top Awards at the Prestigious Cabernet Franc Competition

One of Sonoma County’s top destinations and home to some of the region’s highest-scoring wines, Ledson Winery & Vineyards is thrilled to have won Grand Sweepstakes –Best of Show – Best of Class - Double Gold for their 2019 Ledson Moon Mountain District ‘Sonoma County’ Cabernet Franc at the 4th Annual International Cabernet Franc Competition (People’s Choice Judging).

The 2019 Moon Mountain District Cabernet Franc ($98) is a masterpiece and stellar example of a meticulously crafted wine. The fruit was sourced from Ledson’s Mountain Terraces Vineyard, a world-class mountain estate vineyard located on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountain Range in the tiny Moon Mountain District appellation. Defined by its striking combination of location, soils, climate and farming, the site’s extreme

elevation, smaller day to night temperature swings, with meticulous vine-by-vine sustainable farming practices, the grapes reach true optimal ripeness, bringing on concentrated fruit flavors.

“Mountain Terraces is unique due to climate, soil and management,” affirmed Dr. Daniel Roberts, Soil Scientist and Viticulture Expert. “The human factor, management, is actually just as important as the climate and soil. Steve Ledson’s unrelenting quest for perfection is very prominent at Mountain Terraces and is proven in every bottle of wine from this incredible vineyard site.”

Tinted in deep purple, concentrated aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant are immediately present. Massive layers of black plum, graphite, melted dark chocolate and a hint of baking spice coat the palate leading to a stunningly complex finish with flavors of savory blackberry, chocolate and spice, framed by silky tannins that linger long after the last sip.

2021 West Rows Chardonnay, $37

This is a beautiful Chardonnay from Benziger crafted from the iconic Sangiacomo Vineyard in Los Carneros. Made from organic grapes, it shows off a nice balance from its whole cluster pressing and barrel fermentation in French and Hungarian oak. Time and stirring on the lees gives it a full-bodied creaminess with buttery notes, juxtaposed by the bright green apple, peach, and mandarin flavors.

2021 Winemakers’ Cellar Riesling, $40

Coming from the Russian River Valley, this local Riesling is a beauty. Aromas of apple blossoms and Meyer lemon abound. The palate brings forward crisp texture and notes of citrus, green apple, and wet stones. It’s made in an off-dry style with a touch of sweetness that helps to nicely balance the acidity and crisp nature of the varietal.

2020 Seneca Lake, New York Dry Riesling, $35

When it comes to American Riesling, The Finger Lakes region in New York offers some of the closest expressions you can get to what is crafted abroad. This estate vineyard bottling from Hillick & Hobbs comes from trusted Sonoma County producer Paul Hobbs. It’s crafted from 100% Riesling, pressed whole cluster, fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel, and made in a dry style to retain its quintessential characteristics of brightness and acidity. It’s a lovely expression with flavors of green apple, almonds, and mineral undertones.

Ink Grade

2020 Sauvignon Blanc, $65

Because Napa Valley reds are scarce from the 2020 vintage, it’s wise to snap up the whites. This is classic Napa Sauvignon Blanc with ripe tropical notes of passion fruit and honeydew melon, but it also offers distinct background notes of minerality and stone that bring balance to the ripeness. It’s got freshness and roundness in texture, and maintains that tension from start to finish. This Sauvignon Blanc from Ink Grade is aged in a combination of concrete eggs, lark oak barrels, and oak casks that add a dimension of complexity that doesn’t always exist in Sauvignon Blanc. This is an attractive Sauvignon Blanc that’s sure to be a pleasure as a standalone wine this summer.

Mustards Grill Celebrates 40th Anniversary Special commemorative menu, J une 15-18

Mustards Grill, the iconic Napa Valley roadhouse created by legendary Chef Cindy Pawlcyn, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Thursday, June 15 through Sunday, June 18, 2023. Chef Pawlcyn and her team are planning a special commemorative menu for the four-day celebration including signed copies of the menu to take home. The menu, with a nod and wink to the past, will include playful food and wine offerings, plus other fun surprises to show the community their appreciation for the support given over the last 40 years. Most importantly, a “40 for 40” online wine auction will kick off in early June, featuring forty Mustards Grill favorite winery friends offering once in a lifetime bottles, with proceeds benefiting Napa Valley Meals-onWheels and Food Bank programs.

“The only thing I ever wanted to do was to own a restaurant. This has been my dream from childhood,” said Pawlcyn. “But it has always been about the staff and customers – I have devoted staff, now cherished friends, who have been with me for over 22 years and regular customers who have been with us throughout the 40 years we’ve been here. I’ve realized my dream, thanks to these people.”

Pawlcyn, a pioneer in the development of wine country cuisine, entered Napa Valley’s burgeoning restaurant culture as the opening chef at Meadowood in St. Helena and from there joined Bruce LeFavour at his acclaimed Rose et LeFavour. Armed with extensive kitchen leadership and regional culinary expertise, she successfully launched Mustards Grill in 1983, her now landmark and legendary restaurant. Pawlycn remains intimately involved in the

kitchen operations of Mustards Grill, which features its own culinary garden that supplements the locally sourced produce used in many of her dishes. Pawlcyn’s commitment to seasonal inspiration and the use of the region’s bountiful harvests continue to play a major role in the food coming out of her kitchen.

In 2004, recognizing his considerable talents and leadership abilities, Cindy brought in restaurant industry veteran Sean Knight as Director of Operations at Mustards Grill. Now Managing Partner, Sean is instrumental in all aspects of the business, and the restaurant has benefited greatly from his experience and expertise, as demonstrated by its longevity as the culinary leader in the Napa Valley for 40 years.

“Over the past 20 years, I’m very proud of what Cindy and I have been able to accomplish with the business of Mustards Grill, but what I’m most proud of is the partnership and friendship we enjoy,” said Knight.

Maks is a Ukrainian-born dance champion, choreographer, Broadway performer and actor widely known as one of the former professional dancers on the popular television series “Dancing with the Stars.” He has appeared on the show for 14 seasons and made it to the final round four times with two runner-up and two third place finishes. In 2014, he was paired with Olympics ice dancer Meryl Davis and won his first “Dancing with the Stars” title.

Wine, food, and music celebration returns to The Meritage Resort

Festival Napa Valley’s signature celebration of exceptional food, wine, and music will take place July 15 from 11am to 3pm. Held on the central piazza of The Meritage Resort, Taste of Napa features offerings from more than 70 wineries, breweries, restaurants, and culinary artisans. The event also includes live music, games, activities, prizes, a Reserve Tasting Salon, and the chance to sample wines from international wine partner, the Wines of Catalonia.

“Taste of Napa is more than just a celebration of food and wine; it’s a celebration of the community that makes it all possible,” said Festival Napa Valley CEO Rick Walker. “The event is a testament to the generosity and hospitality that the Napa Valley is known for, and a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors alike to come together and celebrate life's simple pleasures.”

Many wineries have bocce courts for their visitors’ enjoyment.
