he Queen of Country will bring her flaming locks and familiar twang to the live stage at the sparkling new Acrisure Arena. Since the 1970s, McEntire has placed over 100 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, 25 of which reached the number one spot. She is an actress in films and television, including her starring role in the television series, “Reba,” which aired for seven seasons. McEntire will perform with special guests Terri Clark and The Isaacs. The award-winning entertainer will deliver top hits such as, “Consider Me Gone,” “Turn on the Radio,” “Whoever’s in New England,” “What Am I Gonna Do About You,” “The Last One to Know” and many more. McEntire has sold over 56 million albums worldwide and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. She has won 15 American Music Awards, 13 ACM Awards, nine People’s Choice Awards, seven CMA Awards, three Grammy Awards and one ACM Career Achievement Honor. She is also one of only four entertainers in history to receive the National Artistic Achievement Award from the U.S. Congress. Friends of the Palm Springs Library annual book & media sale The Friends of the Palm Springs Library (Friends) will be having their Annual Three-day Book & Media Sale on March 24 – 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily at the JayCee Frey Building on Baristo Road across the parking lot from the main library. Friday, March 24 is for Friends Members only, being a member gives you first pick. Memberships can also be purchased at the door. Then Saturday, March 25 is open to the public where anyone can come and browse to find books and more! Finally, Sunday March 26 will be ‘bag day’ where you can fill up a bag full of your picks and pay one low price. Books, CDs, audiobooks, DVDs, recipe books and more will be available at the sale. “We love having this annual sale, said Nanci Morrison, President of the Friends
of the Palm Springs Library, “it gives us an opportunity to clear things out and make room for more donations, plus people get great deals on books and media items, so everybody wins!”
The Friends of the Palm Springs Library raise funds for the library through daily and annual book sales, special events, planned giving, annual dues and grants. Their mission is to support the Library in providing world-class service to the community through purchasing needed supplies, furniture, and equipment for the library, and by advocating for funding, gifts, and memorials. The Friends also raise awareness about the library and are the link between the library and the community and its elected officials. The Friends support programs that encourage reading, culture, and the arts as well as volunteer-based activities to support our greater community. American Veterans seeking volunteer drivers American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 66 in Palm Springs is seeking volunteer drivers. The drivers will drive a 9 passenger van known as the “AMVETS Express” from Cathedral City and Palm Springs to the Loma Linda VA Hospital and then return to the desert. The driver will work one day per week. The van departs Cathedral City about 6:30 a.m. and returns to the desert in the afternoon of the same day. The van operates Monday through Friday. Applicants for the
position of driver do not have to be veterans. Applicants are required to study a training manual and pass a complete physical exam. The drivers cannot be over age 70. The drivers are volunteers and are not paid a salary. The AMVETS Express has operated since 2004 and it is the only free van transportation from the desert to the VA Hospital. Drivers are not permitted to accept tips from the passengers. The AMVETS Express takes homeless veterans and veterans
who are having a mental health crisis to the hospital. We also transport many disabled veterans who cannot drive a car. For many veterans the AMVETS Express is the only way for them to receive their medical care. We transport about 22 veterans per month. Somehow my cellphone number ended up on somebody’s list. Now I’m receiving daily text messages saying that my Amazon Prime account is about to be canceled for nonpayment -- unless I immediately click the link and give them my credit card number. Some of the messages say the account has already been canceled but I can get it back by -- you guessed it -- giving them my credit card number within an hour. I don’t think so. I’m on a phone list for Netflix as well. I called Netflix and no, my account is not about to be suspended. Said the representative: “You’re on automatic pay. If somehow a payment isn’t made, it’s our fault for not processing it.” I have a few accounts on auto pay, and I think I’ll

change some others. Another reason to switch to the auto pay is the horrid mail service lately. The Post Office can’t keep people, and the ones they have are spread so thin that we’re lucky to get mail delivery three times per week. Which means that bills are late to arrive and mail waiting in the box is late getting picked up, which also means that sometimes a late fee is tacked on to the next month’s payment. If you’re getting those “you’re late” messages on your cellphone, beware. Don’t accidentally touch the link in the message. It will take you to a website that looks real but is not, and just connecting to it can download a virus on your phone. Back out carefully and delete the text message. Take your time. Don’t try to contact the scammers to ask to be taken off their list. It only verifies that yours is a good number and it will be sold to others. If you want to report these scams, go to reportfraud.ftc. gov.

Creamy chicken pesto pasta Ingredients • 350g penne rigate • 300ml light cream • 1/2 cup basil pesto • 3 green onions, sliced • 1 1/2 cups skinless shredded roast chicken (see related recipe) • 1/2 cup drained sun-dried tomatoes, thinly sliced • 1/3 cup finely grated parmesan cheese • Thinly sliced green onions, to serve • Crusty bread, to serve Directions 1. Cook pasta in a saucepan of boiling, salted water, following packet directions, until tender. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup liquid.
2. Return pasta to pan over medium-low heat. Add reserved liquid, cream, pesto, onion, chicken and tomato. Stir to combine. Cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes or until heated through. 3. Divide between bowls. Top with parmesan and onion. Serve with bread.

The moose managed to get in between Jeremiah Bigelow’s snowmobile and that of his brother and for whatever reason it decided to charge the brother’s sled. No one was hurt, although the moose did some damage to his snowmobile as it made its escape and Jeremiah videotaped the whole thing.

Grow old, grow strong Sixty-yearold Floridian Rob Stirling shows that age needn’t get you down. Stirling recently
contested the Guinness World Record for doing the most pushups in one hour -- 3,264 pushups in sixty minutes, almost 54-and-a-half pushups per minute. Stirling is not done yet. He plans to set a new Guinness record for the most pushups in one minute. The current record holder earned his title by doing 144 pushups in the span of sixty seconds. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz came up with the idea while on a visit to Italy. Food and wine publications, thus far, are giving the seemingly odd idea of mixing olive oil and coffee a cautious okay and Schultz is said to be preparing a global oleato roll out in the not too distant future.
Joshua Tree park rangers announce podcast Joshua Tree National Park rangers announce the new official park podcast, “Where Two Deserts Meet.” Narrators Donovan Smith and Ian Chadwick explore some of the park’s most unique and special resources, including wildlife, night skies, and the changing desert landscape. The first five episodes are available on the park website atnps.gov/podcasts/ desertsmeet.htm and on Apple Podcasts. “Where Two Deserts Meet is a podcast where we investigate topics that often require a bit more detail and sometimes the
help of an expert in the field to gain perspective,” says park ranger Donovan Smith, “we are excited to expand our communication of the park resources to new platforms that will allow listeners to experience the park in a new way.” The podcast’s title is based off on the transition zone between the two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert, that come together in Joshua Tree National Park. The first episode dives into the podcast’s namesake.
