Hauraton Limited introduced the RECYFIX® MONOTEC, their new high capacity channel system in January, the new Travelodge being the first installation of the system in the United Kingdom.
The RECYFIX® MONOTEC one metre long channel component is of a sturdy monolithic design where the HEELSAFE grating and the tongue and groove linking system are integral to the channel moulding. The whole unit is made of tough, virtually unbreakable polypropylene (PP) formulated to be very resistant to daily temperature fluctuations from frost conditions to strong sunlight, including the Ultra Violet (UV) spectrum. PP is naturally resistant to de-icing salt. Complying with the requirements of EN 1433, the PP is given its UV resistance by adding just sufficient carbon black as a stabiliser so that the structural strength of the material is unaffected and a consistent appearance is maintained.
The MONOTEC channels installed in the Travelodge car park have a nominal grating width of 100mm,

threading and minimises cross threading. Strong and extremely durable, the unique tool works by attaching to an Impact Wrench or Driver by a 13mm socket and will thread any conduit pipe up to 25mm in diameter. This gives you the ease of carrying a pipe threader and driver in the same piece of kit with each kit supplied with its own carrycase with 20mm & 25mm guides and 20mm & 25mm die and holder. Valves & Controls for HVAC applications Here at Building and Construction Review we are delighted to present Frese Limited with our duly deserved Commitment to Excellence profile. We are particularly keen to tell you more about the history and progressive path of this outstanding business, outlining the team’s recent movements and achievements. The Frese name is best associated with the manufacture and supply of reliable pressure independent flow & temperature control valves,
heat interface units and associated apparatus; solutions for hydronic (waterborne) heating and cooling systems in the global HVAC market segment. Prefabricated components incorporating complimentary technology for packaged heat exchangers and terminal unit applications can also be provided for its target market, which predominantly comprises commercial, institutional and large residential buildings. The company’s roots date back to 1944 when its first firm was opened in Denmark by founder Børge Frese. Over 60 years in the trade has enabled the manufacturer to become an internationally renowned brand operating via a strong supporting network of sales subsidiaries, branch offices, sales partners and distributors across 50 different countries. The UK division, which is located in Lancashire,
was set up in 2004 by current Managing Director Stephen Hart, who was keen to detail the organisation’s key fortes: “We specialise in the production and supply of components and equipment for, and the implementation of, energy efficient hydronic heating, cooling and domestic hot water systems,” he commented. “Our patented pressure independent flow and temperature control valves are designed to provide a comfortable, controllable and responsive indoor climate with a minimum of energy consumption by boilers, chillers, pumps and other plant equipment. My favourite company philosophy is “It’s not MAGIC… it’s just common sense!” although it has taken us more than a decade to persuade a somewhat conservative UK building services sector that this statement applies to our core pressure independent valve technology.” Frese UK has maintained a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 22% ever since its foundation. Expectations for 2015 were expressly similar but incredible growth led to sales soaring at an even faster rate, which in turn prompted an expansion of the product offering with the introduction of Fixed Orifice Double Regulating Valves (FODRVs), Adjustable Constant Flow Regulators (CFRs), Differential Pressure Control Valves (DPCVs) and ever larger Pressure Independent Controls Valves (PICVs), all of which can be supplemented by its range of actuators. Stephen informed us that overall, the last 12 months have been incredibly productive for Frese: “We secured some major project orders in the first quarter that swelled the order book from a fairly modest level at the beginning of January,” he disclosed. “Our assembly facility in Burscough maintained an extremely high output through the
middle part of the year and thankfully our Danish valve production facility was able to keep up with this unprecedented demand. The expected slowdown in the last quarter never materialised and sales, order bookings and order book has remained strong in the first quarter of 2016.” As well as offering balancing & control products, bypass units and thermostatic circulation valves, turnkey design, installation, operation and maintenance services can also be provided courtesy of the Frese District Heating business. If you would like to know more about the company’s highly efficient indoor climate control for buildings then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team today. Civil Engineering Company of the Year
Solving everyday challenges
Tubosider UK has been awarded the Civil Engineering company of the year by Building and Construction Review UK. The business, based in St Helens, Merseyside, is the market leader in the supply and manufacture of corrugated steel pipe and WRc-approved storm water management systems, culverts and tunnels across the UK. Since 1987, its systems have been widely used across a range of largescale high-profile construction projects from premiership football stadiums to hospitals and large scale retail and industrial sites. Its stormwater tanks are the most cost effective and flexible storage and disposal solution on the market. Fabricated on site from a range of

pipe laying exercise.”
With more design choices, fewer manholes and less underground pipework, it’s no surprise that Tubosider is able to offer simpler, more flexible, storm water solutions. So, compared to a crate system, this can reduce the end cost by as much as 40% - great news for the customer. And one of the reasons why Tubosider has been offered the award.
The new range of chambers have a unique, certified integral lifting detail for easy installation. Fabricated from galvanised steel, the chamber is able to be lifted into an excavation. A lifting ring certified to the required weight is secured by multiple incorporated slinging points that are part of the chamber design.
Tubosider MD Anne Duckworth explained: “We pride ourselves on our value engineering proposition, so it’s great to be recognised with this award for our products and services by Building and Construction Review Magazine.
This core business focus on innovation has directly led to the development of Tubosider’s latest product – a range of WRc-approved chamber systems – which launched in January 2016.
The chamber design was developed to meet market demand after Tubosider’s design team saw its potential in helping to save time, costs and reduce health and safety issues compared to installing modular systems.
Paul Rawcliffe, Technical Manager at Tubosider UK, said: “The chambers are a great example of how our design team was able to develop something completely new that solved several everyday challenges our customers face on site.” “As with many of our drainage solutions, this chamber can be made in our factory and delivered to site ready to install, which makes the process even easier. The chambers were tested in situ and are now WRc approved. A full installation guide is now available to customers.” For more information about Tubosider visit www.tubosider.co.uk or follow LinkedIn/TubosiderUK or @tubosider. For enquiries call 01744 452 900

Customers will often pick up the phone and see whether we can suggest a different way of solving a challenge they might have with a particular project or site. “Innovation is a huge part of what we do. And if we meet a challenge along the way? We’ve been known to design a whole new product that does the job. All our systems are made to order in the factory. Behind the scenes at Berendsen Berendsen is a company that can be best described in one word as a ‘chameleon’ of sorts – evolving and adapting to the requirements of the garment and textiles industry to present a solid and rounded offering for its customers in today’s challenging climate.
laundry process –design and construction in workwear draws on over a decade of manufacturing garments and providing laundry services to ensure both can work in tandem successfully. All fabrics used in Berendsen workwear are tested in true-to–life simulations and ‘live’ at their own industrial sites before being implemented into garments. To date, personalised Berendsen workwear has been selected for the needs of thousands of businesses across Europe based on comfort, function, safety and long life, applying Berendsen’s additional understanding of the laundry sector inherently in the design for the best result for the customer.
Kick-starting this new sense of identity with a new company name with the appointment of a new CEO back in 2013, the company also shed its shackles of the familiarly of the ‘Sunlight Group’ name and focused on presenting a much more rounded offering for end users, as ‘Europe’s leading textile service group.’ Today, Berendsen are proud to present themselves as a full supplier and service solution, offering both a supply element in workwear which is further supported by a laundering and service care support system. This full garment rental and care service is completely unique, offering a real point of difference to competitors. For customers today, Berendsen can not only supply a suitable workwear solution that meets the required standards and brief on the job, but can care and maintain it to ensure it protects most effectively for its wearers and gain maximum wear for clients. Globally, this spans to a staggering 55 plants in use cementing a very broad worldwide perspective. Over 100 years of exemplary service Some may be familiar with the work of Berendsen under their former guise as The Davis Service Group Plc, formed in 2002 following the acquisition of Sophus Berendsen, which had textile service operations under the Berendsen brand in Scandinavia, The Netherlands, Germany and Poland. These operations were combined with the existing Davis business which had very similar operations in the UK, Ireland and Germany, providing services under the Sunlight and Spring Grove brands. On July 5th 2013 Sunlight changed its name to Berendsen UK. The name change is a formal declaration of solidary, drive and signifies ambition to grow moving forward. Both Berendsen and Davis were long-established business service companies with history dating back over a hundred years.

The company’s interest in supplying garment care and maintenance stems from a notable industry-wide trend in outsourcing. With today’s customer more than ever short on time, resources and yet attributing great value on a corporate image, the health and safety compliance issues of various industries, and yet still desire to create a customer made solution at a suitable cost. The Berendsen name holds great weight in markets such as Denmark, Norway and Sweden, holding the title of market leader. Key markets within those regions are understood to be in workwear and industrial-wipers in the Netherlands, the German hospital and nursing home market and are targeting an increase of market share in workwear in Germany. It also has established operations in the emerging markets of Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic. Within Facilities services, an expanding area of growth is floor protections mats for commercial users, reducing the dir and moisture brought into the premises and delivering a saving on overall cleaning costs. The mats business is experiencing across Europe, in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Sweden.
The business today Much of the work in the past year has been to move the shift from what the company was, to what it stands for today – not just by name but by the values associated with the business. Almost operating on a unique two tier principle, Berendsen remain in the position to be able to cater for other suppliers and also end users alike, with the workwear sector noted as a core area of growth, totalling 29% of growth revenue at present across 55 plants in ten countries across Europe. UK.
A two-tiered approach to success Delivering solutions for Berendsen means being able to take the stress out of their customer’s hands, and so the business model is focused on purchasing, delivering textiles and hygiene articles and also equally managing laundry maintenance and delivery, offering full solutions tailored to the specific needs of the customer. The appeal to customers is clear: they can free up time, space, reduce staff expenditures and focus their energies back into the core elements of their individual business.
The company vision statement very much follows the same ethos – the company’s strengths in supply and garment care and being able to drive this supply and maintenance in its entirety ‘allows its customers to do what they do best.’ Underpinning these values is

All round knee protection from Redbacks proper personal protective equipment. Protection for eyes, feet and hands are vital of course but it is often the case that not enough attention is given to two other important parts of the body – the knees! Many technicians within the electrical trade or in any occupation that involves spending any length of time kneeling are seriously underestimating the amount of long-term damage they could be doing to their knees, ultimately adversely affecting their mobility and even future finances through being unable to work.
‘Accidents will happen’ is a phrase that is commonly used in any walk of life but as anyone who works in the heating and plumbing trade knows, there are a lot of accidents just waiting to happen on a daily basis. But most site accidents can be avoided by maintaining constant awareness and vigilance, and the correct planning and preparation will do much to keep operators safer. There are a number of basic precautions to be taken of course but one of the most important measures is to pay careful attention to the use of
and a soft breathable, inner fabric that wicks away sweat whilst providing thermal protection from warm or cold surfaces. Scientifically proven to reduce point pressure and distribute weight evenly, the impact forces associated with kneeling are absorbed giving added protection against back and neck pain. Durable and hardwearing, Redbacks strapped kneepads give the user unrivalled, all-day comfort and longterm protection even in the most harsh environments.
Redbacks Cushioning Limited, the manufacturers of the World’s only patented, ‘leaf-spring’, non-foam or gel kneepads, has introduced a new strapped version as an addition to its original, bigselling product for pocketed work trousers.
“It is vital to have the correct knee protection in the workplace in order to avoid long-term pain and discomfort and prevent expensive down time loss of earnings” says Cliff Lockyer, CEO of Redbacks Cushioning Limited.
Designed, overseen and approved by a senior Ergonomist, Clinical Scientist and Biomedical Engineer, the new product retains the company’s award winning cushioning technology which incorporates a flexible TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) leaf-spring set within a unique honeycomb matrix.
“Based on the fact that there are currently over 104,000 annually registered knee replacement operations in the UK alone, 50% of which are accredited to
occupational hazards, in the next 10 years the total figure will exceed over a million people in the UK, many of whom will have damaged knees through inadequate protection whilst kneeling”. “In addition to the unnecessary pain and suffering, both the employed and the self-employed risk losing their income
through injury, and the prospect of litigation will be a real threat to employers for not providing the best possible safety measures for their employees” Contact: 01327 702104 sales@redbackscushioning.com www.redbackscushioning.com

North England Build 2016 Review
Bespoke service to property “Some of the most dynamic voices from the developers construction industry” In practice this means that the development is building an end product where there is a demand for sales(or rental if the client intends to keep the properties). There is a realistic budget where the builder can construct the development on budget and on time.
HWC was set up in 2010 to provide a bespoke service to property developers looking for finance. It started as a development finance brokerage, however it has grown to cover all areas of development from arranging building warranties, to exit finance (commercial loans and BTL mortgages) to acting as mezzanine provider on some developments with its own funds. HWC is able to arrange finance for most residential building projects from first time developers building one house to experienced developers undertaking complex multi unit conversions in listed buildings. HWC and its lenders look at funding a construction project so commonly are working with new start companies with no trading records and look at all projects in a common sense manner, and have even funded 100% of a project cost without the need for additional security.
This may sound simple, but in practice it is overcoming the problems that occur along the way that also make a successful project.
The National Federation of Builders (NFB) was delighted to be an event partner for the first North England Build Expo. The Northern Powerhouse will change Britain forever and allow us to take further control of our prosperity. North England Build brought together some of the most dynamic voices from the construction industry to identify problems, offer solutions, and start dialogue.
This is where HWC is different from many of its competitors in that we can help with all aspects of the project to ensure that the project starts and runs smoothly to a successful completion for all concerned.
The NFB is the most representative voice of professional builders and contractors in England and Wales. Because the NFB’s membership includes specialists, general contractors, large regional contractors and house builders, we represent all parts of the industry to local and central government.
It has been said many times in lending that “it’s easy to lend money, it’s getting it back that is the key to success , at HWC we firmly believe in this mantra when working on development finance for any of our clients as the project is only a success when the development lender has been repaid.
As well as exhibiting at the event, we participated in some stimulating panel sessions. Our head of policy and research, Paul Bogle, spoke on financing construction SMEs and the need to ensure fair payment practices throughout supply chains – an area where our industry must improve if construction output is to increase.

The House Builders Association (HBA), part
of the NFB, was also represented as policy advisor Rico Wojtulewicz joined a panel debate discussing affordable housing and the need to get more homes built in Britain. The HBA campaigns rigorously to provide opportunities for SMEs to win housing contracts. Small volume housebuilders are able to deliver quickly, with great economic and community benefits, but are too often faced with procurement barriers that need to be addressed. The panel discussion provided a great platform for raising awareness of some of these issues. The North England Build Skills Hub provided a dedicated area for delegates to question education and training providers. The inclusion of the hub is testament to the growing recognition that we must all take action to address the well publicised skills shortage. NFB Business & Skills exhibited at the hub alongside local education institutes and recruitment experts. The NFB is the construction industry’s longest established trade association and has grown in stature since its origins in the late 19th century. The federation represents
companies involved in the building and construction industry in England and Wales. Today, the NFB is a modern, proactive organisation that has steadily built up a reputation for sound judgement, high media profile, and a robust approach to protecting members’ interests. The federation provides expert advice for members on legal, employment, financial services, taxation, procurement, health and safety, environmental, technical, training, and government funding issues. New generation site services solutions Avantgarde FM, a nationally operating provider of site services across public and private sectors, have been busy the last 12 months supplying its services into some very notable project in and around the UK. Up north in Scotland there has been the completion of the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as well as the V&A Museum in Dundee, both for BAM Construction. Later on in the year the company was asked to play its own part in the conceptual idea of the Northern Powerhouse and deployed on the Milton to Whitby joint bay/roadworks for Interserve as they looked to service the east coast power grid. As its reputation steadily grew, Avantgarde FM was recruited to place services and support into a nationwide upgrade of Shell Petroleum service station forecourts, carried out by FOX Construction. It has been a year of healthy growth and cemented reputation for one of the UK’s most innovative and trusted service providers. Continued prominence and opportunity gave way to a need for innovation, partnership and national logistics. With this in mind the team at Avantgarde FM, who had already reshaped and overhauled its Security and
Facilities Management divisions, decided there was an opportunity to broaden its appeal and add technology to its list of established products. From this came the signing of a framework agreement with V360 Systems, a market leader in onsite technologies. The mandate was simple, find a technology partner who could add another dimension to Avantgarde FM and help them offer a uniquely holistic set of services. Many companies were trialled however in V360 there was a noticeable sense of innovation as well as a tangible infrastructure already in place. V360 has worked on some high profile construction sites throughout the UK including the Heads of the Valleys motorway extension for Carillion, Athletes Village for Glasgow 2014 and the AWPR oil pipeline and motorway extension in Aberdeen. Trial deployments of V360 CCTV towers, Turnstiles and Fire systems were rolled out. At the end of the day it was clear that in V360 Systems, Avantgarde FM had a likeminded progressive supplier to join forces with. Avantgarde FM has a diverse working

Leading supplier of site and office furniture Harlequin has continued to expand and grow in many areas of the company, allowing us to become more desirable for more and more clients from all over the country. From office chairs to desks, canteen tables to lockers, it’s not just the company itself that’s expanded, our range in furniture has also grown over the years, again allowing us to be more flexible to more areas of trade. We even have a bespoke range of furniture we can offer as part of our services. April was a very exciting month for us here at Harlequin. We decided to take part in the North England Build that took place on 27th & 28th April in Manchester. This expo was a great platform for networking and it was lovely to meet so many nice people. The North England Build has opened lots of new doors for us, and we are excited about how the leads we made here will pan out.
After attending the North England Build Expo 2016, grekho has been deservedly pinpointed as a company of extraordinary value, recognised as a stand out exhibitor for its innovation and professionalism at one of the country’s leading trade shows of its kind. The organisation, which is based in Ranelagh in Dublin, specialises in the development and provision of grekho, an original construction communication and collaboration task and issue management platform with a whole host of exciting features and capabilities.
This sophisticated system is one of the main reasons that the brand stood out whilst exhibiting at the renowned construction expo in April. The hordes of visitors in attendance – which included a vast number of influential architectural firms, contractors, developers, housing associations, home builders, engineers, government bodies, technology solution providers and other major industry frontrunners – were most impressed with the exceptional intelligence and functionality of the high-tech device.
messages can be tagged for future reference, offering significant insights into the topics that will aid team progression and encourage healthy employee competition. Daily and weekly reports can be organised to track site issues, logging data over time to allow for better and more efficient decision making. Even greater convenience for the user comes courtesy of the platform’s simplified design; its contemporary layout resembles that of a modern day messaging app, which brings comfort and familiarity to the handler.
First and foremost, the system offers reporting features most beneficial to project management teams that aren’t available with any other product. Essentially taking a static RFI and bringing it to life, grekho can acknowledge, track and resolve site issues and RFI’s with incredible ease; starting with setup from an admin perspective and progressing on to project development with the careful consideration of contractor, manager and user allocation and category selection (for tracking purposes).
This leads on to the next operational advantage: integration with individual project schedules. Conversations can be easily connected to construction project schedules – collaboration means that these items can be easily uploaded to grekho from existing software systems. In addition, the technology is mobile, so sites can be controlled effectively at their current location, sharing information and photos in real-time to identify and address problems with appropriate solutions.
As well as assisting management groups for construction schemes, grekho can help business directors stay fully updated with any developments through an analytics dashboard that enables those in charge to view projects on the ground performance. All past and present issues can be reviewed with this intuitive feature, which devises custom reports and shares any critical data with teams and directors via direct inbox alerts, subsequently strengthening employee motivation and company performance. The analysing ability of grekho ensures all

Experts in property, infrastructure and environment business productivity, lower costs and enhance visualisation. Neil Lewis recently took to the stage at North England Build where he outlined the benefits of BIM and how it has been integrated into the world of business in his ‘‘Lessons Learnt in BIM, the Story So Far” talk. “BIM has provided key improvements in design and construction,” explained Neil. “It provides businesses with improved certainty of design and coordination and boosts accuracy with its 3D modelling. It has unique potential to seek out mistakes which may have gone unnoticed, preventing further costs and saving a great deal of time.” Neil Lewis, MD of Waterman Building Services

“What sets us apart from our competitors is our ethos and culture,” commented Managing Director of Waterman Building Services, Neil Lewis. “Despite being a large company consisting of over 1300 staff, we still have the feel of a close, family run business. “We are big enough to take on any project that comes our way, but still small enough to provide a hands on, intimate service that our customers can benefit highly from. This, along with our extensive experience, means we can offer clients a service that is second to none.” Waterman is a huge supporter of BIM and recognises it as a formidable force in the industry. With a super-wide angle pillar-to-pillar lens, the camera records high-quality video in 1080p and has a built-in GPS receiver to ensure vehicle location and speed accuracy, helping mitigate the risk of insurance fraud and monitor vehicles to improve driving standards and operational efficiency. It also benefits from a security-led design, whereby a key is needed to access the memory card and the recording angle is locked in place, negating any concerns around footage being compromised.
Speaking of the VT1000’s security features, Simon added: “Many vehicle cameras currently used by businesses were originally made for individual car users and, as fleet adoption has boomed, some camera companies have added locking cases as a security afterthought. These cases do not always provide adequate protection against users accessing the format button and deleting footage that a fleet operator may need to see. This is where the VT1000 differs, being developed with an integrated locking case and lockable recording angle so managers can have peace of mind. Plus, it also comes with alarm outputs so it can

As brick cutters and brick bonding experts, our job is cutting corners
Thermahood, which is based in Newry in Northern Ireland, is a contemporary company set up by founder and current director Vincent Boden. It was in 2013 when the enterprise was officially established, upon Vincent’s completed design of the original Thermahood product, which is now manufactured and distributed to customers across the country. “We proudly specialise in the production and supply of sustainable construction and DIY products,” Vincent told us when asked to detail the company’s core services and strengths. “Thermahood has been specifically designed and developed for current building regulations including the need for air-tightness testing and continuous loft insulation.” One of Thermahood’s most significant innovations is its Downlight Covers, which come with a whole host of operational advantages. The covers, which were meticulously devised to fit over downlights (located in attics and placed on ceilings), are manufactured from a superior grade self-extinguishing material that reduces heat loss and draughts whilst lessening the risk of condensation in these areas.

The premium product, which helps to meet Building Regulation 2.3 (C2 - Condensation, L1 - Fuel Conservation and E1 - Sound Protection) eliminates the problems that arise with downlights, which are considered a weak point in the battle against heat loss because they are uninsulated and the light fittings aren’t airtight. The Downlight Covers also improve air tightness and air quality whilst simultaneously reducing noise, dust and insect infiltration, so it is all in all a highly useful component for the end user. Thermahood products can be implemented with great ease and efficiency, and what’s more, they can be handled by anyone, including the everyday DIY amateur. Once fitted, they require no further maintenance and can effectively operate in tandem with heat recovery systems (controlled air flow) to improve air quality in living areas and reduce fire hazards from household storage items (e.g. Christmas decorations placed on downlights). “As a fairly new company we have recently been focused on establishing our brand in the market,” Vincent admitted when discussing Thermahood’s latest movements and plans for the future. “As a result we are anticipating further growth with our existing products whilst introducing additional products to our line in order to offer our customers a greater range of solutions.” Thermahood is an increasingly popular brand that has an ever-growing customer base. Its range of clients includes everyone from insulation contractors, air-tightness installers and low carbon contractors to electrical contractors, architects, residential, passive haus, energy saving installers, energy consultants and energy providers (as part of ECO - Energy Saving Measures). If you would like any further information on this up-and-coming business and its great selection of energy and money saving products then please do not hesitate to get in touch with Thermahood today – its team of representatives are just a phone call or email away. The tests, which are conducted in a UKAS approved laboratory, involve a mechanical onslaught during which pistons, chains and a sandbag-style wrecking-ball are used to strike, push and pull the product imitating a break-in.
“This testing is tough and each product was vulnerable to up to 7 hours of testing, but I’m pleased to say that all of our products passed. We spent a lot of time researching before manufacturing our new range and the resulting attention to detail in assembly has played a significant part in enhancing security performance. Using layers of laminated wood for added strength, specially sourced screws and fastenings, a robust multi-point locking systems, and PAS24 approved cylinder locks, we have been able to build a superior product that the PAS24 tests are no match for.”

e have all seen the reports on the on-going housing crisis. The prediction is that at least 200,000 new homes will need to be built year on year until 2020 to avert this situation
W
Modules are constructed to exacting quality levels in the controlled factory environment and with as much as 75% of the building being manufactured offsite, the risk of accidents on site is greatly reduced.
Despite some upturn in house building output last year; many analysts believe the industry remains at least 100,000 houses a year short to meet demand. 76% of house builders themselves have said that 180,000 or less is achievable with only 6% saying that 200,000 could be achieved on a regular annual basis.
Finally, as standard, the Premier housing product meets all 5 main elements to achieve a BRE Green Guide Rating of B or above and is designed to achieve a Code for Sustainable Housing Level 3 or above. The dwellings also meet the requirements of Life Time Homes.
A number of house builders now state that skill shortage has overtaken planning and land availability as the biggest constraint on their businesses To answer this gap in the market Premier Modular developed an innovative modular housing building system. This highly efficient light gauge steel frame, factory engineered product is constructed by skilled assembly teams in the company’s 22 acre site in Yorkshire. Business Development Director, Rachel Davis, points out that the houses are assembled not by traditionally skilled tradesmen but rather by manufacturing and engineering trained factory operatives. This opens up the possibility of significantly contributing to the housing
Premier housing was designed from the outset as an affordable home and this is how it has been received in the market. Costs are obviously design and site dependent, as this gives clients design flexibility but the project team will work with the client from day one to achieve value for money. Running costs are also kept to a minimum as standard insulation values are 28% higher than building regulations and exceptional airtightness ratings are achieved naturally with offsite construction. Many other eco features are also available.
Premier are working on several housing projects across the UK and have just completed a sustainability driven project for a Housing Trust in Yorkshire; The drive from the Trust was to create the first Code-5 Social Housing in Hull. The houses were 3 bed, 5 person units and were designed to attain Level 5 in the Code for Sustainable Homes (CFSH) through the introduction of design initiatives which included: • Photovoltaic panels to generate electricity on site. • A communal rainwater harvesting tank. • Greywater recycled for flushing toilets. • Triple glazed windows & doors • Compliance with HCA size standards • Low energy light fittings installed throughout. • Restricted water usage per day, incorporating dual flush toilets and mixer taps/showers. • Use of low embodied energy materials and improved efficiency through prefabricated construction • Compliance with Secure by Design. In a market where an increased rate of build is required, building standards are increasing, sustainability is of growing importance, a reduction of accidents and incidents is expected despite the increase in activity and we have a diminishing pool of skilled tradesman. Offsite construction has to be a big part of the solution.
To complete the package Premier ensure houses are fully mortgageable by offering an insurance backed warranty package through Checkmate comparable to NHBC, which is accepted by 98.5% of lenders.

ICYNENE SPRAY FOAM INSULATION PRODUCTS The Icynene Insulation System is a series of soft, flexible, breathable spray foam insulation products, Icynene insulation is ideally suited for lofts, flat roofs, timber frame and sound insulation. Icynene can be applied directly to breathable or non-breathable roofing felts and recently received BBA certification for this application. When sprayed in place Icynene expands completely filling all cavities and voids creating a sealed building envelope which eliminates air leakage/infiltration. Air leakage/infiltration can account for up to 50% of the heat loss from a building. Unlike other foams, Icynene’s unique formulation is 100% water blown and therefore contains no harmful blowing agents, volatile organic compounds, HCFCs, HFAs, HFCs or formaldehyde.
