Magnetic sheet, tape and much more Abel Magnets are one of the UK’s largest suppliers and convertors of magnetic materials specialising in the supply of flexible magnetic sheet, magnetic tape, and powerful rare earth neodymium magnets in a range of sizes. Established in 1998, the company prides itself on being both competitive with our prices and customer focused with service. If you are looking to create a magnet receptive wall, commonly referred to as a “magnetic wall”, this can be done using Abel Magnets’ Flexometal sheet. Made from recycled materials, Flexometal is a flexible ferrous sheet with a high ferrous (iron) content making it receptive to magnets.
10dB(A) sound power reduction from the BGA 85. The BGA 100 can be perfectly partnered with the new AR 3000 backpack battery to ensure running time of up to 160 minutes off a single charge and 25% more capacity than the AR 900 backpack battery. With comfortable, ergonomic back support and an AP adapter with plug socket for easy charging, the AR 3000 and BGA 100 are the ideal set for professional users in need of a premium tool they can rely on. Using this dry wipe/white gloss faced Flexometal sheet, it is possible to convert a whole wall into a magnetic whiteboard which is ideal for office and meeting room environments. The Flexometal can be fitted with Abel’s own super strong ready-mix wall adhesive and comes with hanging instructions to apply the sheet directly to the wall. There is also a range of whiteboard accessories available for use with the full wall sized magnetic whiteboard. Clients who have installed dry wipe magnetic walls using the Flexometal sheet include the Cabinet Office, John Lewis, Waitrose, Hewlett Packard, Asda, GlaxoSmithKline, N Power and many more. It is also possible to create a wall that to all intents and purposes looks like any other in the house, with either a conventional wallpaper covering or a painted finish, but is in fact a “magnetic wall” to which
magnets can be fixed. This can be done by using the plain Flexometal sheet as a magnetic lining paper and fixing it to your wall using the super strong ready-mix wall adhesive. Once the adhesive has dried it is then possible to paper the wall in the conventional manner with any regular thickness wallpaper of your choice or a conventional lining paper which can then be painted over. This option is ideal for kids’ bedrooms or kitchens that have run out of space on the fridge door for magnets! The Flexometal sheet has been fire tested at the Building Research Establishment and classified to Euroclass fire resistance classification EN13501-1. It is the only ferrous sheet available in the UK that carries this classification giving you peace of mind that putting the Flexometal sheet up on the walls of any building will not cause a fire hazard. Flexometal is easy to handle and can be readily cut with either a craft knife or good quality scissors.

The Master solution to staying safe
Having successfully developed and traded the HallclipTM (Lead flashing clip) to all lead merchants for many years. Jimmy, our founder and owner, had time to work on another problem that had bothered him all his working life (45 years roofing); the use of a lead strap (tingle) to repair a broken slate. Ignoring the fact that they are tremendously unsightly and can give the impression of a building in disrepair, they are also not a permanent solution, as the strap over time can be pushed down with rain and melting snow.

Dose Control Cordless Dispenser Technology from P C Cox With over 50 years’ experience in manufacturing dispensers for single and dual component materials, P C Cox has stayed at the forefront of the industry by responded to changes in sealing and adhesive technology. Collaboration with major chemical suppliers has enabled P C Cox to develop innovative dispensing systems to meet changing demands. Dual component chemical anchoring systems are now well established in the construction industry with multiple choices for architects and builders to select from; most of these systems rely on standard dispensing tools developed to suit the common packaging systems. With increasing use of these expensive materials, it is important to ensure the correct volume of material is used for each fixing. Insufficient and the anchor may not meet the design specification ultimately compromising the installation with possible
safety consequences. On the other hand, over application is wasteful and increases the installation cost for the contractor. Recent developments in battery powered single and dual component dispensers from P C Cox include optional dose control embedded in the dispensing software. This system delivers a consistent volume of chemical anchor each time the trigger is activated whilst still providing full speed control for precise application. A dose dial provides a range of adjustment to meet the application requirements. These powerful battery applicators give the user full portability on-site enabling high productivity improvements with up to 80 cartridges possible between battery charges. The Icynene Insulation System The Icynene Insulation System is a soft, flexible, breathable, foam insulation and air barrier system. Sprayed as a liquid Icynene expands to 100 times its initial volume in seconds filling every nook, cranny and penetration into walls, ceilings and floors. Icynene’s unique formulation sets it apart from other insulation products offering many advantages over traditional insulation materials and more modern alternatives. While all materials of equal thermal resistance perform identically under laboratory conditions the same is not true in real life; some insulation materials off-gas which, over time, diminishes their effectiveness, others allow the passage of air through gaps between them and other building components. Installing Icynene ensures no loss of performance and it will remain the same over the lifetime of the building. Minimising air leakage from a building enables the correct design of heating
tapes. Needing only a short installation period, Icynene can save you valuable build time and is therefore extremely cost-effective compared to other products, not only that but you benefit from insulation and airtightness in one application.
and ventilation systems, saving money on the initial installation and future running costs. Buildings with Icynene installed have easily reached Passivhaus standards for air leakage without the use of membranes and
The Icynene Insulation System is 100% water blown containing no toxic chemicals. Icynene doesn’t contain any HFC’s, CFC’s, HFA or HCFC’s and it remains soft and flexible accommodating any normal expansion, contraction or movement within a building. So whether you plan to build, renovate or upgrade the Icynene Insulation System will deliver the performance you can count on for a lifetime of savings and comfort. ICYNENE SPRAY FOAM INSULATION PRODUCTS The Icynene Insulation System is a series of soft, flexible spray foam insulation products that delivers up to 50% greater energy savings when compared to other insulation products. Icynene is perfect for loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, drylining insulation, sound insulation and more. When sprayed in place Icynene expands completely filling all cavities and voids creating a sealed building envelope which eliminates air leakage/ infiltration. Air leakage/infiltration accounts for up to 50% of heat loss from a building. Unlike other foams, Icynene’s unique polyicynene formulation is 100% water blown and therefore contains no harmful agents, volatile organic chemicals, HCFCs, HFAs, HFCs or formaldehyde. Icynene has been successfully tested and is approved and certified for application directly to breathable and non-breathable roofing felts. Icynene absorbs the lowest amount of moisture and has the highest level of vapour resistivity of any soft foam on the market.

One of the company’s most notable products is its innovative GuardSafe system; fitted boxes slotted into the corners of a building which monitor 4 designated patrol routes. This award-winning innovation immediately alerts organisations when a guard is onsite, providing clients with complete assurance that their property is being safely supervised at all times. Roy Unwin, Managing Director of Acclaimed Security, explained more, “Every patrol route is timed, yet an extra 4 minutes is added on to each journey to ensure the guard undergoes a thorough check of the area,” he said. “If the duration
between each GuardSafe box is shorter than the designated patrol time, the system will reject it and the guard will have to repeat the patrol until it is completed properly.

“GuardSafe is a unique patrol logging system which works in real time. This means companies can have results within seconds – if there are any issues, they are flagged up immediately and dealt with accordingly. This is a vast difference to other businesses,

whose results are typically provided after a much greater timespan - some can take as long as a month! We are proud to say that GuardSafe is a system exclusive to us; no-one else in the world has it.” Acclaimed Security also offers Check-Call, which monitors officers by ringing them hourly and checking they aren’t asleep on the job. If the guard misses the call, and doesn’t have a valid reason for doing so, a supervisor will assess the situation (paying them a visit onsite if necessary). Roy detailed, “Security guards can get tired whilst working long shifts and end up cat-napping – at Acclaimed Security we won’t allow this to happen because our smart routines and systems are specifically designed to tackle this issue. Our technology tracks precise movements through hourly calls, mobile responses and periodic checks to ensure personnel are performing diligently.” The Acclaimed Security team have recently secured a massive contract introducing AS K9 Ltd, an enterprise working in accordance with canines to combat terrorism, drug control and general wrongdoing. This partnership involves the training of military dogs, explosion detection dogs, drug detection dogs and general attack dogs.

Product Innovation Award
Building Product Solutions: Manufacturer of Quality Windows Building and Construction Review is extremely proud to present its highly prestigious Product Innovation Award profile to Building Product Solutions. Building Product Solutions is one of the fastest growing window manufacturers in the UK. Founded by Ian Harrison and Lynne Darwin during the double dip recession in 2009, the company hasn’t been held back and grew consistently from day one. The company spotted a gap in the market at a time when most suppliers were going bust and filled that gap with innovation and outstanding service levels. Building Product Solutions manufactures, delivers and installs bespoke windows and doors which are made to fit each builder’s architectural plans for a range of property styles across new estates. The South Yorkshire based company, is a real example of how decisive action, sheer determination and consistent investment can result in outstanding growth.
position to capitalise on the growing confidence within our sector. Lynne said, “The expansion will cut costs by around 20%. We’re also able to reduce lead times – improving on what was already one of the best in the industry.” The company’s manufacturing capability has increased from 550 windows to 1,500 windows a week. A further 7,000sqft extension (currently in planning) will house a distribution unit, further increasing capacity by allowing the company to hold stock. Along with the purchase of premises and extensions, Building Product Solutions has invested £200k in state of the art machinery for both the sealed unit production line and the glass plant over the last 12 months. After securing a number of high profile contracts wins with house builders such as Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey, Larkfleet, Harron Homes and Gleeson, Building Product Solutions is boasting an £12.6m order book and is currently live on 142 sites across Northern England. In an industry where average turnaround time is up to six weeks, Building Product Solutions stands out from the crowd having slashed this to five working days for cavity closers and 10 for glazed frames. Renowned for its ability to turn jobs around, many leading house builders have quickly come to rely on Building Product Solutions as the partner who never lets them down.
Building Product Solutions has seen turnover increase by a remarkable 60%, staff numbers have almost doubled and the premises are expanding too – all within the past 12 months. Not one to miss an opportunity for growth, the company recently opened the doors on its new glass plant. The 3,500sqft facility brings the entire fabrication process in house, improves its reliability, efficiency and gives Building Product Solutions more control over the output. Lynne Darwin, Sales Director at Building Product Solutions marks the new glass plant as a significant milestone in the company’s six year history. “It’s no secret that the manufacturing sector has faced tough challenges in the past few years, but with our investment we were determined to come out on top. The glass plant puts us in the perfect

alongside the Chamber of Commerce. The company’s recent growth hasn’t gone unnoticed and over the past 12 months Building Product Solutions has been shortlisted for eight awards, scooping two and currently waiting on the outcome of four more. “The whole team have worked incredibly hard, not just over the past twelve months, but the entire six years since we started. We really couldn’t have got to where we are today without our team. Lynne adds, “Myself and MD, Ian work incredibly hard when recruiting to ensure we have the right people around us, and our growth gives us all the evidence we need to know we hired the right people.”
The business is currently undergoing a complete fit out of its office space within the unit to create a modern, open plan working area for the admin and support team, along with offices and meeting rooms and a small canteen for staff to break for lunch. With a projected forecast of £5million for 2015/16 and a busy order book, Building Product Solutions is entering another growth phase, which seems set to cement it as a nationwide industry leader. With further investment planned in its facility, machinery, processes and people, the future looks promising for Building Product Solutions. The company has recently been awarded preferred supplier status with Miller Homes across Yorkshire and the North East. Lynne explains, “The association with a leading house builder such as Miller Homes is one we’re very proud to have. It really pushes us to the forefront of supplying to the new build sector and further cements our position as one of the North’s leading window manufacturers.” Proud of its humble beginnings and where it’s based, Building Product Solutions is keen to help the local community whether that’s by creating new jobs for a region with a high un-employment rate, sponsoring a local football team or working

RENSON louvre panels for student accommodations in London A good air quality is crucial for students to keep the focus during studying, in the end achieving better results. Therefore, all 419 student rooms of the project Paul St. East (Shoreditch, London) of full building envelope contractor FK Construction feature their own ventilation unit. The duct of the system is connected to a specially developed Renson louvre panel solution on top of every window in the building. For this application in 12-24 Paul Street, the project team of Renson Fabrications Ltd. developed a special solution, which combines a glazed-in louvre panel type 414 with a 150mm thick insulation panel to the rear with duct plenum. For accurate connection of the ventilation duct, the insulation panel was equipped with a duct opening during assembly for on-site connection. When no duct needs to be connected, the insulating back panel was installed fully closed, providing the required thermal resistance. “We were looking for a specific solution for this application and Renson Fabrications Ltd. was able to develop and manufacture a customised solution for us,” says Sean Keenan at FK Construction. “By integrating these glazedin louvre panels with special insulation on every window of a building, we could not only take care of ventilation and thermal resistance, but also add an additional architectural dimension to the façade of the building.” Renson is a trendsetter in ventilation, solar shading and

Since 1909 the company has developed and manufactured innovative products and solutions, which improve the living conditions of people and at the same time, cut energy costs. Renson Fabrications Ltd., with production facility in Maidstone, develops and manufactures a wide range of products and systems, including window ventilators, louvres and continuous louvre systems. The company provides standard as well as customised solutions to the construction market. “We offer architects, specifiers, developers, fabricators and installers a wide range of innovative systems, taking into account not only the ventilation and/or sun protection features, but also other aspects, such as thermal resistance and acoustic performance,” says Patrick Vandenbogaerde at RENSON. “For various applications in the UK, the project team of Renson has been developing special ventilation solutions with louvre panels, combined with options, such as dampers or an insulation panel on the rear. Renson’s demandcontrolled ventilation system combines the constant supply of fresh air through self-regulating vents and the extraction on-demand of polluted air thanks to the central extraction unit Healthbox®. Dynamic sensors measure the extraction air 24 hours a day on CO2 or humidity and/or VOCs and adapt the ventilation level to the needs of the residents in an intelligent way. In this way, the system makes a healthy indoor environment possible. The Healthbox®, installed in an unused corner in the attic or in a technical room, is calibrated fully automatically and regulates itself so as to achieve the exact extraction capacity for each room. This avoids the risk of adjustment errors, thereby ensuring a properly working ventilation system with a
proper flow rate in each room. This automatic calibration also leads to significant time savings, as installation takes only a couple of minutes. György Pócsi In order to explain the principles of this demand-controlled ventilation and to set up sales channels, Renson had appointed György Pócsi as Business development and Sales Manager for mechanical
ventilation in the UK. He has been in the HVAC market for more than 20 years. “I am looking forward to launch the Renson Mechanical ventilation activities in the UK, further strengthening its position as market leader in ventilation,” says György Pócsi. “I will use my experience to find new business opportunities and to help the local contacts to set up dedicated sales channels.” Contact Renson today on: +44 (0)1622 754123, email: info@rensonuk.net or visit: www.rensonuk.net

Global adhesive tape manufacturers tesa® is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of adhesive tape with products for industrial and professional applications and 300 products for private consumers. Trading since 1963 under the Beiersdorf ‘banner’ tesa® UK was formed in 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary of tesa® SE. With over 75 years’ experience in manufacturing adhesive tapes under the tesa® brand name, the company produces double sided, masking, protection, safety, cloth, duct and packaging ranges in addition to many products developed for specific industrial and consumer applications. tesa® UK’s prime markets extend from automotive, flexographic, printing, building supply, corrugated packaging, newsprint and paper production to painting and decorating. tesa® UK is the originator of tesacohesion™, the definitive programme of customer service and added value which involves people, products, processes and performance. Designed to deliver a powerful bond on materials with different surface characteristics is the tesa®ACXplus brand of adhesive tapes. The acrylic core double sided tape for high performance constructive bonding is the highest performing product range made by tesa®. The range is based on a solid acrylic core or a foamed acrylic core, offering high bonding power alongside high UV, temperature and solvent resistance. Due to the high transparency, these tapes are particularly suitable for constructive bonding of transparent materials such as glass or acrylic and are being used increasingly in internal and external building applications, including sign manufacturing, wall partitioning and deco glass panels. Providing intelligent solutions for constructive bonding across the globe, tesa®ACXplus was developed to provide architects, specifiers, builders and contractors with a radical alternative to liquid adhesives and mechanical fastening. Its ‘Constructive bonding’ includes contemporary applications on some of the
world’s most iconic buildings with elegant and functional transparent partition walls, door and window panels, signage, aluminum composite panels and reinforcement bars. It is now a key element in many industries and presents a number of challenges. For many applications high-tech materials are used which have special structures and properties and often dissimilar substrates need to be bonded. The tesa®ACXplus range addresses these issues by often outperforming conventional fastening methods throughout the process, from achieving production efficiencies to delivering long-term performance with better aesthetics and lower maintenance costs. Following the successful introduction of tesa®’s ACXplus range of tapes, the company has introduced a new version of its tesa® ACXplus, the 7058 double-sided tape. With the edges of the tape now neutralised so they are no longer tacky, the tape does
not attract dust and dirt particles during installation, providing a crisp and clean finish. tesa® ACXplus 7058 tape consists of a high-performance acrylic system offering excellent bonding power, stress dissipation, temperature and weather resistance. Due to its high transparency it is especially suitable for constructive bonding of transparent and translucent materials such as glass or acrylic, and is used in partion walls, sign manufacturing and glass panelling industries. Offering enhanced functionality with a fast and robust adherence, the ultra-transparent tesa® ACXplus 7058 tape creates an invisible bond many slim designs and different substrates such as glass, polycarbonate, aluminium and more. With a thickness of 2mm, tesa® ACXplus 7058 tape provides not only high bonding power but is UV, temperature and solvent resistant and provides a viable alternative to many conventional fastening methods. The high performing ACXplus family has recently received accreditation from the Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
all qualified for one credit according to LEED v4, valid for the rating systems for Building Design and Construction, Interior Design and Construction and Building Operations and Maintenance. Reading Uni revamps Campus with Bituchem gi energy
Reading University is benefiting from Bituchem’s Natratex Cotswold hard landscaping material as part of a £276 million investment into the University’s student accommodation. Natratex Cotswold was used across 2,600sq.m of the Whiteknights campus to provide an aesthetically pleasing and durable pedestrian area that complemented the designs of the existing and new halls. The development increases the number of student rooms to 4,950 and has been awarded BREEAM excellent status due to environmentally sustainable features such as roof top solar panels, energy efficient boilers and heat recovery ventilation systems. Bituchem’s Natratex Cotswold product echoes the development’s sustainable ethics being environmentally friendly and extremely long lasting. Bituchem’s Natratex Cotswold product in brown was specified by UPP, University Partnerships Programme, having been previously successfully used in a similar project at Exeter University. The fully bonded aggregate proved a durable and robust option while ensuring the aesthetics of the development are maintained through natural
looking finishes in a variety of colours. The Natratex Cotswold product has been developed using natural coloured aggregates that are fully bonded using a clear binder that ensures strength and durability while retaining the pleasant colour of the stones. Its suitability for both pedestrian and vehicle use makes it a great surfacing choice for educational environments where the regular maintenance of buildings and facilities will require vehicle access. Bituchem sees first application of new Porous Material
SOFTWOOD SPECIALIST
Hard landscaping specialists, Bituchem has completed the first application of its advanced Natratex Cotswold Porous material at the recently redeveloped Royal William Yard in Plymouth. Approximately 2,000sq.m of the porous material was applied to the ‘secret garden’ car park, giving both a practical and aesthetically pleasing finish to the site. Designed by Dartington-based Gillespie Yunnie Architects the new car park is situated within a number of Grade II listed walls, formerly a Grade I listed Nursery Walled Garden. The 140-space car park has used Bituchem’s Natratex Cotswold Porous material as well as real grass with plastic trays for reinforcement, to give the entire car park a natural drainage system. The Natratex Cotswold Porous material is particularly suitable for applications on sites with preservation restrictions, due to the lack of deep earth work needed. Bituchem re-designed its popular Natratex Cotswold material to replicate natural infiltration methods, in response to the
PINE • SPRUCE • DOUGLAS FIR • LARCH demand for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). The asphalt material is laid on a porous receiving layer and has an open structure to allow water to permeate through the surface into the ground and eventually finding its way to a natural water source. The material has been designed to remove the need for conventional drainage systems, thus eliminating the likelihood of blocked drains and water contamination.

Roof window specialist campaigns to save Britain’s attics There are 23.3 million homes in England, out of which 79% are houses, according to the Department for Communities and Local Government’s most recent report. And with Britain’s dwellings averaging the smallest floor space in Europe, at 85m2, aren’t homeowners missing a trick by not fully exploiting the capabilities of the existing housing stock? A roof window specialist has kicked off its campaign to help boost living space in the UK by creating awareness on the dormant potential of lofts.
Building Adhesives News
Fail Safe Flooring with Dunlop ProCover Tiling onto new or cracked screeds and timber floors can cause major headaches for contractors and installers – which is why Dunlop, specialist manufacturer of tile adhesives, finishing and ancillary products for the trade – has launched a new cracksuppressant uncoupling mat system designed to provide complete protection against failures.
Installing ProCover is simple. Firstly ensure the background substrate is flat, sound and free from dust and any other barriers to adhesion. Roll out the Dunlop ProCover Uncoupling Mat on the floor areas and cut to the required size using a pair of scissors or a utility knife. The printed gridlines will ensure accurate sizing. Mix a suitable flexible cement-based adhesive such as Dunlop Set Fast Plus Floor and Wall and Tile Adhesive, in a mixing bucket using a paddle mixture. Spread the adhesive on the floor using a notched trowel and smooth the mat onto the wet adhesive. ProCover can be butt-jointed with no overlap meaning no additional tape is needed. Ensure the mat is fully pressed into the tile adhesive using a trowel or float to remove air pockets.
ProCover gives builders peace of mind when undertaking the difficult task of floor tiling. So how does it work? ProCover is an uncoupling system, meaning it separates the tile from the floor by providing a flexible layer acting as a buffer. there is huge improvement potential to be explored.
LB Roof Windows is a major UK distributor of the Velux, Aurora and Dakea ranges of roof windows, skylights and accessories, and supplies thousands of builders across the country with top quality products and customer service.
Aside from roof windows, the company also supplies Coxdome roof domes and Sunsquare flat roof windows and skylights, including walk-on and access roof windows. The supplier has also recently introduced the Atlas Roof Lantern range of glazed roof solutions to its portfolio, made from slim, but strong and energy efficient aluminium frames.
Considering that approximately 6.8 million properties in the UK are actually terraced houses (according to the same report),
For more information, call LB Roof Windows on: +44 (0)1623 624500 or visit: www.lbroofwindows.co.uk
This protects against the different rates of contraction and expansion experienced by the floor and tile layer depending on moisture and temperature. This is a particular problem for floors which suffer from movement, such as new sand and cement screeds, underfloor heating and timber floors which have previously required overlaying with plywood which is both costly and time consuming. Without an uncoupling mat providing a buffer, tiles can crack and de-bond as the background moves, potentially costing tradesmen time and
money in repair and recompense. ProCover creates a barrier between the floor and the tiles allowing movement underneath which does not travel through to the tiled floor. Easy to use and coming in handy five metre rolls for easy storage and transport, Dunlop ProCover is suitable for large or small commercial, or domestic projects.

Reflecting quality and comfort
Thermal Energy Components
We’re sure you’ve heard of Low-E Glass. Well this insulation works the same way. Low-E insulation is the thinnest most effective reflective insulation on sale in the UK and this year the manufacturer is celebrating their 25th year in business. Made from recycled material, without the use of solvents or adhesives, Low-E Insulation has one of the lowest Carbon Footprints of any insulation on the market. It carries a Class A/Class 1 Fire Rating for use in areas where similar products fall short.
The air handling solutions company is a dedicated division of Klingenburg, an establishment bought into the UK just less than two years ago. Famously noted for its state-of-the-art technology and premium products, TEC UK delivers highly functional innovations that make considerable contributions towards saving energy resources and reducing CO2 emissions.
Unlike traditional Insulation, Low-E does not have to absorb heat before it becomes effective. It works by reflecting heat directly back to the source. The idea of using reflective layers to reduce heat loss is not new; it’s just never been done in such an effective manner. Don’t be misled by ‘shiny’ insulations that claim to reflect, they may reflect light but if they are made from plastic they won’t reflect heat in
the same way. Low-E is made from 99.4% pure insulation grade aluminium. The closed cell foam ensures the product won’t absorb moisture while also providing a thermal break, reducing the risk of condensation and interstitial condensation. Without multiple layers Low-E is very lightweight, easy to cut and with no dragging on screws, it’s extremely quick to install. Tested by the British Board of Agrément to 600Pa Low-E was found to have an air-leakage rate of ZERO, making it ideal for timber frame and new build construction.
Klingenburg’s heat exchangers and humidifiers are suitable for all space heating and cooling needs, serving great purpose in small apartments, large factories, cruise ships, spray paint shops and data-processing centres. TEC UK’s line of Heat Recovery systems come in 4 different types, the first option being the Rotary Heat Exchangers, which are unbeatable when it comes to recovering thermal energy in air-conditioning systems. Meanwhile, the GS range comprises components perfect for ventilation in small apartments, office complexes, farm stables, swimming pools, refrigerated stores and warehouses. Counterflow Plate Heat Exchangers recover up to 90% (by rigorous calculations) of existing room heat or cold and are used wherever a circulation of air is undesirable, as in this design the airstreams are completely separated.
Vectaire: Ventilation Specialist
Another variety comes in the form of cross-flow plate heat exchangers (PWT), items best known for their outstanding resistance and robustness. These products are available in aluminium, epoxy-coated aluminium or stainless steel and can be utilised in industry, ventilation and extraction systems for adiabatic cooling and the cooling of electrical cabinets. The CERTO Humidifiers are the latest addition, incorporating patented technology to create a maintenance-friendly solution exuding power and reliability. Our aim is to increase brand awareness and promote our cuttingedge range of products. We also plan to expand further in the UK and in the next 2/3 years as we hope to be manufacturing here in the UK.” T +44 (0)1460 247111 info@tecukltd.co.uk www.tecukltd.co.uk

Starting at the base and working up
Perforated sheets from RMIG depict a new Golden age for Bang & Olufsen
DURABLE has guaranteed its awardwinning LUCTRA® TABLE PRO lamps are suitable for virtually any application by introducing two new base options. The LUCTRA® TABLE PRO range can be held in place with the original base plate or now by a table clamp or pin, occupying a minimum amount of space and allowing a much greater level of flexibility in where it can be used.
Precision perforated panels from RMIG have helped to create a unique, showstopping facade for Bang & Olufsen’s (B&O) new flagship store in Herning, Denmark. This new building reflects the audio-visual giant’s new design concept for its stores.
The clamp can be used in place of the larger, base plate and attaches to any surface up to a thickness of 78mm. It can even be mounted on the wall, for maximum flexibility. DURABLE has also
introduced a pin that holds the lamp in place securely in hole throughputs between 20 and 80mm, again with a small base plate to limit the amount of space it occupies. These two new additions to the revolutionary LUCTRA® TABLE PRO range further enhance its value in the workplace, the home and any number of other applications as a table lamp that can really make a difference to the lives of those that use it. Taking advantage of ground-breaking research into the effect of light on the human body, LUCTRA® uses revolutionary LED technology to help regulate the body clock by changing the intensity and colour of the light to mimic daylight. To receive further information about LUCTRA®, request a brochure or to speak to a DURABLE lighting specialist, please call: +44 (0)1202 851130, email: enquiries@luctra-uk.com or visit: www.luctra.co.uk
The material selection and design of the whole building were a fusion of B&O new concepts for both its stores and product designs, as well inspiration from the modernist style from the middle of the last century. The hallmark of minimalistic Scandinavian design with a strong human component runs through all of B&O’s projects, from its innovative audio and TV systems to the stores where the exclusive products are put on display.
B&O is renowned around the world for its high quality product design and technological excellence. When embarking on the project of creating a new flagship store, the primary objective was to ensure that the building’s exterior reflects the brand’s reputation for high-style and is as arresting in design and appearance as the store’s interior.
own specially designed perforation pattern, which when assembled, runs across the whole envelope of the building creating an unusual and fascinating design that resembles entangled snakes.
The striking flagship store was designed by Arkitec as who, through RMIG’s City Emotion programme, chose perforated TECU® Gold panels for the building’s facade to cover approximately 350m². Using RMIG ImagePerf, each bespoke panel has its
LED lights sit behind the golden perforated facade which are programmed to fade in and out, creating a visual energy and a constantly changing light, both day and night, in the city square where the building is situated.
The combination of RMIG’s precision perforated panels and the building’s beautifully rounded glass corners give it a unique charm with lightness and transparency. At the same time, it beckons customers and passers-by to step in and experience the top quality sound, image and design and B&O is famous for. Office to residential conversion Recent government plans have led to an increase in residential conversion projects, in light of this Giacomini UK discusses some of the projects of this nature that it has been involved in. Provided as a temporary measure, policy changes have made it possible to convert Class B1 office buildings to Class C3 residential dwellings, without having to apply for planning permission.
Globally Proven Construction Solutions
The main aim of the policy change is to support an increase in housing supply, encourage regeneration of office space and bring empty properties into productive use. Giacomini UK’s heat interface units help control both the domestic hot water and central heating in these multi-dwelling conversions and support the seamless transition from commercial to residential. One of the conversion projects for Giacomini this year was Arliss Court in Watford, which saw the vacant top floor office space converted into luxury apartments by Supercity Developments.
The inclusion of Giacomini’s G5 heat interface units, with pre-installed MBUS water and energy meters, in each conversion will offer many benefits for tenants, landlords and contractors, such as energy monitoring for consumption based billing and lower servicing and maintenance costs. For more information on HIUs from Giacomini, visit: www.giacomini.co.uk to view a brochure.
Heating up the Grande redevelopment of Aberdeen’s Seafood Park Aberdeen’s Seafood Park in the harbour area of the city has been undergoing some drastic renovations in recent months and the final stage of the project will see Giacomini’s underfloor heating being installed. The £100million renovation has been undertaken to redevelop the area which had become derelict, and to revamp it with the construction of a new building called the Grande. The Grande will stand on the site of the park in the harbour area and will be a high quality 140,000 square feet eight-storey office development, alongside 271 car parking spaces, that will be the new headquarters for EnQuest plc – the UK’s largest independent oil producer in the UK North Sea. The Grande will be the workplace for 800 of EnQuest’s employees.
