SENIORS EXPO

T H E B R YA N - C O L L E G E S TAT I O N E A G L E

DEAR FRIENDS, Join us at the 14th Annual Seniors EXPO taking place on Wednesday, May 20th from 9 am to 2pm at the Brazos Center (3232 Briarcrest Drive) in Bryan. H.E.B. is pleased to bring you this popular annual event designed to showcase the many services and merchants available to serve seniors here in the Brazos Valley. The theme for Seniors EXPO 2015 is Stars and Stripes Forever and promises to be lots of patriotic fun! Admission is FREE, so come on out on Wednesday to enjoy vendors, entertainment, educational seminars, free health screenings, door prize giveaways and more! This year, we will begin the festivities by posting the colors in a special ceremony led by American Legion Post 159. All veterans attending the EXPO will be invited to post their name on a wall of honor so that we may recognize their military service. Vendors at Seniors EXPO will not only showcase the incredible quality of the products and services they can offer local seniors; they will also decorate their booths to match our theme and help us turn the Brazos Center into a patriotic celebration of Stars and Stripes Forever! We will announce the winners of the annual Seniors EXPO booth decorating contest at 10:15am. The Brazos Valley Center for Independent Living will host a cooking demonstration at 10:30am. Don’t worry if you work up an appetite; concessions provided by Texas Roadhouse will be available for purchase at the EXPO! The fun continues with entertainment from local talents: Ray Sanders on Trombone at 11:30am; The Rhythm Rockers line dancing at noon and Bob French playing the guitar at 1:00pm. The excitement culminates with the announcement of the grand prize winner at 1:45pm; you must be present to win! This year’s grand prize is a Carnival 5-Day Western Caribbean Cruise sponsored by Comfort Keepers and Oldies 107, Aggieland’s Good Time Oldies (details available at the Seniors EXPO). Make sure you stick around all afternoon to catch these incredible performances and to be eligible to win the grand prize! Seniors EXPO is about more than just fantastic fun. Every year, we bring in a panel of speakers specially chosen to share their expert knowledge with our attendees. Our goal is to educate local seniors on subjects that will help them leave the EXPO prepared to make smart decisions about their health, lifestyle, finances and more. This year, we are proud to present a “Veterans Memorial” seminar by Steve Beachy at 9:30am. Dr. Molly Carpenter will host a “Confidence to Care” seminar at 10:30 am, and Dr. David Hackethorn will present “What I have Learned in Caring for Older Adults” at 11:30 am. Finally, Jared Myer from Caring Transitions will share “Rightsizing-Transition to Senior Living Communities” at 12:30pm. 10 door prizes will be awarded at the end of each seminar. College Station Medical Center and St. Joseph Regional Hospital will be at the EXPO on Wednesday, providing FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS to Seniors EXPO attendees; and, as a special treat, the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History is offering FREE ADMISSION to attendees and their families during the EXPO.
