PET SUPPLIES PLUS Pet Supplies Plus is an Aggie-owned and operated pet store that opened in Bryan August of 2016. Offering a wide variety of natural and non-natural pet foods for any pet, from dogs, cats, birds, fish and reptiles, they also have the largest selection of all-natural pet foods and the largest variety of wet cat food in the area. They offer fullservice grooming and even have a Self-Service Dog Wash. In addition to many great products, Pet Supplies Plus offers free same-day delivery and curbside pickup for those

With Steve being a veterinarian and Ashley a former veterinary technician, a pet store seemed like a logical choice with their knowledge and love for animals. They heard about Pet Supplies Plus and started looking into the company. The couple traveled to the corporate office in Michigan to learn more about the business. Upon completion of the visit, they decided it

to be a great company and a good fit for their new business venture. READFIELD MEATS & DELI Readfield Meats & Deli was voted “Best Meat Market” in the Brazos Valley, and for more than 50 years it has been regarded as the best butcher shop in the hearts and minds of many loyal customers. Readfield Meats & Deli is a family owned and operated business that was begun in 1960 by the parents of the current owners, Richard, Larry and Roland Ruffino. The business has grown from a small meat market on North Bryan Avenue in Downtown Bryan to its current location on Texas Avenue, with the big, red cow in front. Through the years, the store has grown

and developed into a multiservice food center that provides a unique shopping experience for its customers. Readfield’s meat market carries a full line of fresh meat products, including aged, USDA Choice and Prime Chairman Reserve Premium Beef, MidWest Pork and Texas Poultry. Other meat products include lamb and veal. Readfield Meats & Deli is also known for its own award-winning smoked meat products, including sausages, turkeys, beef jerky, bacon and hams. Specialty fresh sausages: Italian, breakfast pan, bratwurst and Polish, are popular items,

also. Ready to cook, seasoned items include marinated brisket for barbecue and marinated beef and chicken breasts for fajitas. Grilling favorites include Chicken Diablos (seasoned chicken breast, jalapeños, cheddar cheese and bacon) and Rattlesnake Eggs (fresh Polish sausage, cream cheese, jalapeños and bacon). The deli offers fresh deli meats and cheeses sliced to order, as well as in-store made tuna, chicken and pimento cheese salads. Custom made sandwiches, including muffulatta and Italian style hoagies, are on the menu. Customers can order custommade deli trays, including meats and cheeses, vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, cookies and brownies. In-store baked fruit pies and artisan breads are baked daily. Rotisserie baked chickens are available, as well. The grocery department stocks an extensive selection of imported pastas, olive oils, tomato products, olives and

cheeses. An interesting collection of both domestic and imported wines is also available. “It’s an honor to be reassured that we’re doing our job well,” said Mr. Ruffino. “We pride ourselves on our quality and great customer service and really want to thank the Brazos Valley for

C&J BARBEQUE

Gas and feed to bbq and catering, what a ride C&J has had. Back in 1981 husband and wife Chip and Jo Manning bought an old convenience store at the end of Harvey Road and Highway 30. Back then Chip sold everything from gas to cigarettes to sodas to horse feed. It wasn’t long after opening the convenience store that Chip started mixing business with pleasure by adding brisket sandwiches to the list of items you could buy at this small gas station on the edge of town. He started off small, maybe one to two briskets a day, but over time the brisket would outsell everything else in the store.

Just three years later in 2000 they won the Reader’s Choice Award for best BBQ in the Brazos Valley, and they have won that award every year since, including this year, making it 23 years in a row. The awards didn’t stop there, since then they have won multiple other awards including the Newman 10 Award and The Best of the Brazos Award. With their success, the restaurant expanded in 2002, adding a location on Texas Ave in Bryan and then growing again a few years later in 2006 with a second College Station location on Southwest Parkway and Wellborn. Between all three stores, C&J’s now cooks an

average of 2,200 pounds of meat a day: over 100X what they were producing when they first started out! This year, in 2022, C&J is relocating their Texas Avenue location to a new store located at Briargate and William Joel Bryan Parkway. The new location should be open late July or early August and it will soon be serving the same great BBQ the community has come to know and love, from a brand-new store with plenty of room for friends and family to gather and enjoy the best BBQ in the BCS. “We are very excited about the new location and to be able to walk into a building we built from the ground up.

Coming from our beginnings in that little gas station to this new location gives us an amazing feeling, lets us know all the long hours and hard work has paid off.” said Reagan Manning, Chip and Jo’s daughter and the business Director at C&J Barbeque. The family ties are strong at C&J, with Reagan and her brother Justin taking over the company now. Their parents have setup a legacy they are proud to continue. Reagan went on to say

that part of the success of C&J’s is the amazingly loyal and dedicated staff. A lot of businesses say they are like family, but at C&J Barbeque, many really are family. That family atmosphere spills over to the rest of the staff, and in turn to the customers as well. “Good food and friendly service is what keeps people coming back, and we can’t wait to fill our new location up with our happy and loyal C&J customers.” Says, Justin Manning.

1860 ITALIA 1860 Italia is proud to be voted the 2022 Readers’ Choice for Best Italian Restaurant. “Each and every day we strive to be the best, and the recognition from the community lets us know we are on the right track,” said John JHarvey Slocum, co-owner of 1860 Italia and the namesake for The John Harvey salad. 1860 Italia has been open for two years (?) in South College Station. Since opening they have been serving up

pasta, specialty pizzas, salads and custom dishes to patrons using farm fresh ingredients. From appetizers to desserts, each dish brings the flavor of Italy right here to Texas. Although the restaurant has been open only two years, Chef Johnny Poche brings 22 years of experience to the kitchen. Chef Johnny brings a special flair to all the dishes at 1860 Italia, from traditional dishes like spaghetti and meatballs, to house favorites such as lobster and truffle carbonera. He utilizes local

products from local vendors to put the freshest, most flavorful food on each plate. “’Local’ is a buzzword these days, but if you stick to it and stand behind local, you’ll get just that: buzz,” said Chef Johnny. “Too many places claim to be local, but use frozen ingredients and cut corners where they can,” he continued. “At 1860 Italia we use fresh ingredients from right here in the Brazos Valley, whether it’s meat, vegetables and even wine.” The restaurant has certainly created quite a buzz in it’s first few years in the restaurant scene. Before winning the 2022 Readers’ Choice Award, that buzz was evident by

the packed tables and busy kitchen as the restaurant filled up night after night. Chef Johnny attributes some of the success of 1860 Italia to his team of College Station natives who have helped form the relationships to hire the best staff, stock the kitchen and bar with the best local food and to keep things running. for the best and never settling for anything less, Stella Southern Cafe sources grits out of Waco, TX that are ground to their exact specifications, beef for their burger patties from revered 44 Farms in Cameron, TX, and even has a special blend of breakfast sausage made just for them from Ruffino’s in Bryan, TX. Everything is made from scratch- from cooking up tasty homemade jams to their fluffy buttermilk biscuits being rolled out all day long. You really can

taste the difference in every bite, and you won’t find anything “instant” or “prefab” coming out of their kitchen. Special care is taken with every menu item, using a “the way mom does it” approach.
