Audiologist & Hearing Aide Center

RobeRt HeRRing • Listen HeaR audioLogy CenteR Robert Herring, Au.D. and the staff of Listen Hear Audiology Center are grateful for the continued support from our wonderful community. Listen Hear Audiology Center was founded on providing the highest level of hearing health care in Bryan and College Station, and being voted as “Best Audiologist” is a true honor. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how our society is interacting. This includes social distancing, isolation, and wearing a mask to name just a few. All of these things make it more difficult for the hearing impaired to communicate. We are addressing all of the ways we can provide better services to our patients including telehealth, remote programming of hearing aids, remote testing and of

course, in office visits. Our staff is maintaining the highest standards of infection control so that we can limit the spread of the virus. Founded in 2009 by Dr. Herring, Listen Hear Audiology Center has grown and has cared for over 5,000 people during that time. Many local physicians and caregivers regularly refer their patients for hearing care because they trust the services provided by Dr. Herring and his staff. Listen Hear Audiology Center provides a number of services including: • Comprehensive hearing testing • Hearing aid evaluation and fitting with multiple brands and lines from which to choose • Hearing aid repair and maintenance

• Pediatric and adult care • Newborn hearing screening • Custom hearing protection including electronic noise plugs for hunters and marksmen • Swim plugs • Tinnitus consultations Dr. Herring has invested significantly in new equipment over the past few years, including a new state-of-the-art Real Ear Measurement (REM) system. REM, also called probe microphone verification, is an advanced way to measure the output and function of hearing aids while in the patient’s ears. A tiny microphone is placed a few millimeters from the eardrum, and testing is performed with and without the hearing aid. The hearing aids

are then adjusted to meet very specific prescriptive targets for the individual’s hearing loss. Because we all have differently shaped ears and ear canals, REM gives much better objective measurements for a precise hearing aid fitting. No guessing, just science. REM is what the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association recommends as best practices. That is the difference in Listen Hear Audiology Center’s approach to helping people hear better. Listen Hear Audiology is OPEN!! Dr. Herring is accepting new patients, and is only a phone call away to beginning the journey to better hearing.

HVAC REPAIR

bCs aiR soLutions BCS Air Solutions opened in 2013. Owners Karl Oehler and his son, Coulter, have been in the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industry for a combined 40 years. The company offers repair, replacement, service and maintenance on all HVAC systems. The wide range of services offered can be customized to meet any customer’s needs. The Air Solutions team works directly with the customer to come to the best solution for the home, business, or commercial needs. The Oehlers said they believe in focusing on quality over quantity, giving customers prompt service, especially when it is above 90 degrees and their air-

conditioning is not working properly. The Oehlers believe what sets their business apart from others is customer service. They take pride in creating a customer-based business in the community. They said their team strives to go above and beyond for every customer to have the best experience possible. The Oehlers said they were grateful for the recognition from the community. It is the first time the business has been selected as winners for The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Awards. “We really put our focus into a job well done and making sure we meet all the needs of our customers,” Coulter Oehler

said. Oehler said the team at BCS Air Solutions deserves the recognition for selflessly giving to the business and sharing the vision and goals of the owners. The Oehlers have seen the business grow over the years and appreciate the opportunity to serve an

expanding customer base. BCS Air Solutions plans to remain exclusively committed to providing HVAC services. With the uncertainties surrounding operating a small business, Coulter Oehler called the Readers’ Choice recognition a “God-wink,” and said he felt blessed. “We

will continue to strive to do the best we can to take care of every customer that gives us the opportunity. Our goal is to deliver an honest, professional, and quality solution for all of your HVAC services in the Bryan-College Station area,” he said.

PHYSICAL THERAPIST LigHtsey pHysiCaL tHeRapy

dR. amanda LigHtsey, pt, sFma, Fms, Cktp

In 2016, Dr. Lightsey committed to her vision of an environment where patients are empowered to collaborate on a personalized treatment plan that serves their long-term goals. Dr. Lightsey provides orthopedic and manual based therapy, emphasizing functional movements that return patients to comfortable everyday activity, up to full athletic performance. Dr. Lightsey dedicates time developing practical treatment plans reducing risk of re-injury and promoting long term health. Patients are regularly surprised at the speed of their recovery when encouraged to partner in their treatment. Today’s typical PT care is

within a corporate structure. Dr. Lightsey’s care is unique because her patients partner directly with her; one on one, every single visit. Dr. Lightsey directly observes every movement and develops treatment plans that align with the patient’s personal goals. She shares, “With individualized treatment plans, patients progress more efficiently because I’m not managing their care through a secondhand report. I commit to personally serving them in their recovery and they put faith in my treatment; it creates a strong bond.” In 2002, Dr. Lightsey chose to practice in her hometown because of collaborative therapy colleagues, overall medical

expertise, and to promote a healthy Brazos Valley. However, a private clinic, with a smaller reach than her professional colleagues, can be a risk in today’s “volume-driven” healthcare environment. “Our community is blessed with extensive PT services. Winning the Readers’ Choice Award reassures me that ‘breaking the mold’ is valued in our community. It’s an aspect of our culture that makes me proud to be from the Brazos Valley.” “Direct patient observation continuously challenges me to grow as a therapist,” she shares. “Through one on one care, I’m blessed to connect with each patient, directly monitor their response and evaluate progress. This gives me insight

beyond a textbook or classroom experience.” The personal environment also allows her to advocate for treatment with insurance providers so patients receive full benefit. “It’s important to share treatments with physicians and insurance providers so everyone makes the best decisions for the patient,” says Dr. Lightsey. The dynamic insurance market keeps her practice evolving. “Making patients the top priority will never change but helping them manage their healthcare benefits requires flexibility and innovation; and I’m happy to advocate for them in that way.” As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, Dr. Lightsey is grateful to continue full care for her patients and remains confident in their safety. “Our community’s health has never been more important. My oneon-one practice environment

“ Wi nn i ng the Rea d ers’ Ch o ice Award rea ssures m e that ’ breaki ng the m o ld ’ o n PT s er vices is va l u ed in o ur co m muni ty. ” - Dr. Lightsey

allows me to accommodate each patient’s individual needs to assure both of our well-being. The small practice environment has always fostered strong relationships, and now it enables care amid a broader health crisis. This community is important to me, so I want to be a valuable partner in our recovery together.”

People in College Station have plenty of opportunities to enjoy refreshing beverages and gourmet foods. And when they do, they turn to Spec’s Wines, Spirits and Finer Foods, the 2020 Readers’ Choice for “Best Liquor Store.” Since 1962, family-owned Spec’s has been providing exceptional savings on an impressive selection of unique finds for hungry and thirsty Texans. A vital part of their long-running success has been their mission to make and keep customers happy.

Back on April 1, 1962, Carroll Jackson – affectionately nicknamed “Spec” because of his signature eyeglasses – opened the first Spec’s with his wife, Carolynn, in Houston. One day, Spec sketched a caricature of a bunny with glasses, symbolizing his quick, friendly service. People loved it, and it has been the Spec’s logo ever since. In less than 10 years, the demand for more Spec’s locations grew. The Jacksons’ daughter Lindy and her husband John Rydman came on board in 1971, and just three years later,

they introduced the largest selection of wines Houston had ever seen. Now with Texas’ largest selection of wines, spirits and beers at more than 100 locations across the state, Spec’s has truly become a destination shopping experience and a Texas institution. “We serve thousands of people in our stores across Texas,” said Lisa, thirdgeneration spokesperson. “We are constantly striving to get better at what we do, offer a better selection for our customers, improve our customer service and show the

PIZZA

HoWdy’s texas gRiLL’d PIZZA Howdy’s first and most important business is taking care of people. The year 2020 and the impact of COVID-19 was difficult for everyone in this community, and we were so impressed by how the community came together. Like so many other restaurants, we saw this as a critical time to make sure we took care of our community and implemented support strategies like super low-cost meals for seniors and children, along with free delivery to make sure there was food security for those most at risk. To be honored with The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Pizza” this year means something extra special to all of us. We love being a part of the BCS community. It’s been our goal to become a new tradition in Aggieland. With this being our third year winning, we feel like part of that vision is coming to pass, and it wouldn’t be possible without all of the support we receive from this community every single day. When we started back in September 2016 working on the Howdy’s Texas-Style Grill’d Pizza concept, we really wanted to honor Texas food and traditions on a pizza. We see ourselves as something that is at the same time both new, and based on food traditions that go back hundreds of years. We say, “Howdy’s is a pizza joint with the soul of a Texas BBQ shack.” Our pizza focuses on using the best quality ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and authentic Central Texas BBQ that we smoke ourselves using a 122-year-old recipe. We will not compromise on

quality and value. Our entire model is driven on freshness, quality, accuracy, speed, and guest experience. In fact, at every level, we aim to make sure we deliver a superior product you can always count on to be the best in quality, flavor, and freshness. The only freezer we have onsite at Howdy’s is for storing ice cream that is used in our floats and sundaes. Our menu is completely unique in that we feature Smoked Meat Pizzas with toppings like premium brisket, sausage, steak, and pulled pork. Our Smoked Chicken pizzas include our handpulled smoked chicken and flavor packed crispy chicken skin. We’re also proud of our Veggie Lover’s pizzas. Our goal was to bring incredible flavor and a thoughtful approach to creating pizzas that vegetarians and non-vegetarian’s alike will love. We also offer all of the traditional pizza toppings that people know and love. Our most popular pizzas include the Texan, which includes smoked brisket, smoked sausage, Smokehouse BBQ sauce, fried onions, and fried jalapenos. Other pizzas include pulled pork, smoked flat-iron steak, and have unique names like the Cattlebrand, the Smokehouse, the Hillbilly Hawaiian, the Hoot-n-Holler, and the Roundup (our Ultra-Supreme pizza). Our popular Chicken pizzas are the Smoking Hen and the Flaming Yard Bird. Very popular Veggie Lover options include the Street Corn Named Desire (Elotes), the Smoking Mushroom, the Texa-rita (Margherita) and several others. This year we’re expanding into

franchising. We had originally planned to do this in 2020, but for obvious reasons we had to adjust that strategy. Last year we also expanded to become an Official Sponsor of Texas A&M Athletics and started serving our pizza at Kyle Field’s All-American Club. We’ll also be expanding into service for baseball and basketball in the coming year. It’s such an honor to be more closely linked with TAMU, and the response from attendees has been stellar. We’re excited to feed the Aggie faithful! It begins with our commitment to delivering “Joy and Wow” with big Texas smiles, to friendly faces through dang good Texas-Style Grilled Pizza. The bottom line is that an amazing guest experience is our top focus. Our goal with our first Howdy’s location was to really focus on family and the communal nature of pizza. Families love dining inside at Howdy’s, and we love seeing our tables full again with people laughing, sharing stories, and eating great pizza together. Pro-tip, many of our guests use the basket on the table where we house condiments to hold their cell phones while they’re having a meal together.

Howdy’s welcomed a new General Manager, Colton Benton, to the team. He brings a vast amount of restaurant and pizza operations experience to the table. He’s also an extremely great guy that is a committed father, family-man, and proud Airforce Veteran. Colton brings with him an even deeper commitment to speed, quality, accuracy, and amazing guest experience for Howdy’s. Our guests tell us they love the unique flavors, the quality of the ingredients, and that the crust is delicious. Most importantly, we work hard to respond to input and feedback very quickly. We know the impact of COVID-19 affected our operations like it affected so many others. But, we’re focused on making those improvements that make us worthy of being named “Best Pizza” year after year. We are blessed to have a really special team and are proud of how hard they work, how much they care about our guests, and how passionate they are about making Howdy’s Texas Grill’d Pizza the pizza of choice for people in College Station and Bryan. The responses we continue get from guests are genuinely enthusiastic. The best part about being named “Best Pizza” is that this is an award from the people who matter most, our guests who actually come to Howdy’s week after week. At Howdy’s we never take the community’s support and loyalty for granted. As an owner group, we’re pretty open about our faith in Jesus Christ, we’re grateful

to God for the opportunity to serve others, to bring something truly original and unique to the market, and to be blessed to create jobs for some truly special people who work at Howdy’s every single day. We had to overcome a ton of challenges, but all along we knew that what we had would be a real game-changer in the pizza-asusual business. We’ve served way over 150,000 pizzas in the last year, during the height of the lockdown last year we were able to provide over 5,000 Kid’s Combo Meals for just $2.95 a piece when many people were out of work, and nearly 2,500 senior meals as well. We genuinely didn’t make money on those, but we did get to make a difference and that’s a bigger priority. When it comes to growth, we want to see “Texas-Style Grill’d Pizza” become a true state-wide point of pride and preference. This is such an amazing state in which to do business, and Texans are deeply loyal to authentic Texas brands. Our goal is to build one of those great Texas brands and then take it beyond. This summer we’re rolling out wings, pizza rolls, and more. We’ve recently added beer and wine, with a focus on Texas brands, starting with the amazing brews from Shiner. We have more ideas than days in the year, but it starts with getting the fundamentals right. Our guests deserve nothing less than excellence in every item we serve.

NEW CAR DEALER and OIL CHANGE

Serving the Brazos Valley for 66 years!

Allen Honda in College Station, TX, has a long history of excellence to stand on. In addition to routinely receiving awards from American Honda Motor Company, Allen Honda also regularly impresses readers of The Eagle in the publication’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. This year, Allen Honda was humbled to receive recognition as the Best New Car Dealer, Best Oil Change, and Best Auto Sales Person by readers of The Eagle. What sets Allen Honda apart from other College Station dealerships? Their commitment to excellence at every level. From their

award-winning sales staff to their service center, you’ll find exceptional customer service in every corner of Allen Honda. In fact, an oil change at Allen Honda not only replenishes your motor oil, but it also comes with a full car wash and vacuum – all in 20 minutes or less. Talk about top-notch! This College Station Honda dealership has roots that run deep in the Bryan-College Station area. In 1955, CJ Allen and Mr. Brown bought the Oldsmobile Cadillac dealership in downtown Bryan, TX from its thenowner, Mr. Edge. The dealership

was renamed the Brown-Allen Motor Company while both CJ Allen and Mr. Brown were coowners. After several successful years as co-owners, CJ Allen bought Mr. Brown’s

share of the business and changed the name Allen Oldsmobile Cadillac while moving the dealership to Texas Avenue in Bryan. Allen Honda opened in its original Texas Avenue location in 1975 and was later moved to

its current location at the corner of Highway 6 and Southwest Parkway in 1985. After many years of serving the Bryan-College Station community, CJ Allen passed in

2003. His wife, Pat Allen, and son, John Allen, took over the dealership after his passing. Over the last 18 years, Pat and John Allen have carried on the legacy that CJ Allen began, helping Allen Honda to excel in every area from

new cars, to used cars, to auto service. In 2017, John Allen undertook the project of modernizing the dealership’s campus by razing the old structure and commissioning a state-of-the-art facility that is more than twice the size of the old building. Pat and John Allen also remain committed to CJ Allen’s philanthropic endeavors by generously giving financial and other support to many organizations in the Brazos Valley, particularly those that support youth activities and build up the Bryan-College Station community. Though the Allen’s

contributions are too widespread and generous to name at once, they have been philanthropically involved with many organizations. Saying that Allen Honda and the Allen family have been a pillar of the community is quite the understatement as they have faithfully created countless jobs, provided exceptional service, and given generously to the Bryan-College Station community over the last 66 years. There is no doubt that Allen Honda, Pat Allen, and John Allen will continue to be a significant part of the Bryan-College Station Community for years to come.

To do that, he decided to use fresh, local ingredients to provide the highest quality, scratchmade breakfast, brunch, and lunch in the Bryan-College Station area. dR. tRoy n. eLms • dR. JeRemy steWaRt Winning The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award for the 14th time is such a great honor for the Elms Orthodontics team! “What makes us most excited is the challenge of constantly advancing the orthodontic experience and exceeding patient expectations. Receiving The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award is a confirmation that we are getting it right with people we care about most – our patients,” said Dr. Elms. The past year brought some big new opportunities to Elms Orthodontics. They welcomed Dr. Jeremy Stewart to join Dr. Elms in providing quality orthodontics to their

patients. Dr. Stewart ’03 and Dr. Elms ’86 are the only Aggie orthodontists, and only board-certified orthodontists, in the Brazos Valley. Elms Orthodontics treats patients of all ages. From elementary-aged patients who need limited care to correct an early developmental discrepancy, to “traditional” adolescent patients with full braces, to adult patients of all ages - they treat them all. Adult patients come with varying backgrounds. Some had braces earlier in life and are looking to “reset the clock”. Others didn’t have that opportunity earlier in life, provided it

for their children, and are now ready for their turn! Whatever your story, Elms Orthodontics would love the opportunity to help you achieve the smile you want! Treatment options at Elms Orthodontics are as diverse as their patients. They offer traditional metal braces for those looking to make a statement with fun colors. Gold braces are a nice option for those looking for something more designer that blends nicely with the teeth and provides all of the benefits of metal braces. For those wanting the treatment experience of regular braces without the look of braces, white ceramic braces are available. Finally, for those wanting straight teeth without braces, Invisalign is an option for most. Invisalign uses successive clear aligners programmed with incremental changes. The doctors at Elms Orthodontics personally

design your Invisalign treatment outcomes and monitor your progress throughout to provide a safe and effective orthodontic treatment. A “positive patient experience” is a key phrase at Elms Orthodontics. Regular team meetings center on shaping the patient experience to ensure higher and higher levels of satisfaction, efficiency, and enjoyment. The Elms team does this by focusing on the most minute of details. The list is endless, as is the team’s quest to improve. One unique service that Elms Orthodontics offers it’s student patients is the Orthomobile. The Orthomobile is the free chauffeured Hummer shuttle to and from school for regular appointments. This saves parents from taking time off of work during the school year to bring their children. Elms Orthodontics

is excited to have it running for the ‘21-’22 school year. Fun is also a big component for their patients, including the most anticipated summer event, the annual private Splash Bash swim party at Adamson Lagoon. Hundreds of patients from the Brazos Valley have the party of the summer, courtesy of Elms Orthodontics. Dr. Elms and Dr. Stewart have not only managed to create a truly special environment, but have done so without compromising orthodontic quality. This combination is what endears patients to Dr. Elms, Dr. Stewart, their amazing staff, and the great results they produce. With Elms Orthodontics, your family and you will benefit from both years of experience plus the latest advanced techniques and technology. You are going to love Elms Orthodontics!

Your local Keller Williams agents were not only busy selling homes in the community, they were also working hard to give back here in Bryan-College Station. In May of this year, we raised over $1,500 and collected another $500 of personal hygiene items to donate to Chrissy’s Closet and Hope’s Locker.
