BCYLA Scholarship Program

The Brazos County Youth Livestock Association will award scholarships to some qualifying Brazos County young men and women who are seniors in high

school and who plan to study at an institution of higher education or technical school. These scholarships will be awarded during the Special Awards Session just prior to the Brazos County Youth Livestock Show Premium Auction.

Eligibility The candidates must be a high school senior who will graduate by the spring semester of 2021 and are either members of 4-H or FFA. (A signature of the

county extension agent or agriculture science teacher is required as part of the certification). They will be confined to those who have been either accepted or enrolled in a Texas college, university or trade school but are not limited to a specific or restricted major. Scholarship winners must take a minimum of 12 hours for the 2021 fall semester with proof of their registration and payment provided to the BCYLA secretary before the recipient’s check is mailed. If a scholarship winner has not enrolled in a college, university or trade school within 12 months of the fall of 2021, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Requirements Attendance at the 2021 BCYLA Auction is required as winners will be announced and recognized. An applicant must be a member of BCYLA, 4-H, FFA

or FCCLA. He/she must demonstrate their past participation in the BCYLS. This requirement will be heavily weighted in the selection committee’s final decision.

Good luck to all exhibitors!

A note from BCYLS 2020 Queen

Howdy! As the 2020 BCYLS Queen, I am privileged to announce the 65th Annual Brazos County Youth Livestock Show is soon approaching . This year’s events kick off on March 20th with the Queen’s Dance featuring The Risky Liver Band and the crowning of the 2021 Queen . BCYLS exhibitors will spend the week of March 21-27 showcasing their projects during the judging of livestock, agricultural mechanics, and the food and consumer science shows . Two auctions will be held, one for the Jr . Commercial Steer Contest on

FOR

FINANCING

Tuesday, March 23rd at Noon and the Premium Auction on Saturday, March 27th at 2:00 P .M . On behalf of all the hard working BCYLS exhibitors, I encourage our entire community to support the youth involved in 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA . For most of the youth involved with these programs, this past year has been full of many cancellations resulting in missed opportunities . It is more important than ever for our community to come together to support and reward these exhibitors . My time serving as the 2020 BCYLS Queen, looked a little different in comparison to previous years . Even though my reign was not spent in the barn participating with the daily events, I was fortunate enough to witness a selfless group of adult leaders, volunteers, sponsors, and buyers rally together to provide support during a devastating time for BCYLS exhibitors . Each of these individuals played an important role in the success of the 2020 - COVID 19 Brazos County Youth Livestock Show Online Sale and ultimately rewarded BCYLS exhibitors for their efforts throughout the year . The success of the sale simply would not have been possible without each and every one of you . My involvement in Brazos County 4-H, Rudder FFA, and the Brazos County Youth Livestock Show has had

84

a huge impact on my life . Whether I was exhibiting my livestock projects to the best of my ability or volunteering my time to help impact others my involvement with these organizations has been the back bone of developing me into the person I am today . As my time as BCYLS Queen and exhibitor comes to an end, I want to personally thank each BCYLS Board of Director, Committee Chair, and Volunteer that gives selflessly of their time and talents to make the show and sale possible each year . To all the FFA Advisors, County Extension Agents, 4-H Adult Leaders, parents, grandparents, and/or friends who mentor youth exhibitors with projects you are critical to our success . To the amazing Brazos County Community, please come support the future of our country as we exhibit our projects at the 65th Annual Brazos County Youth Livestock Show . See you at the Barn! For a detailed schedule please visit: www .bcyla .net . Yours Truly,

Courtney Thurman
