Local Nonprofits Need Your Support Now More than Ever!
The nonprofit community embodies the best of America. In the Brazos Valley, we have over 1800 nonprofits that provide a way for us to work together for the common good, giving shape to our high ideals and noble causes. Every person in our community benefits from the work of nonprofits in ways that one may not even realize. Did you enter the world born in a nonprofit hospital—for nearly half of America’s hospitals are nonprofit? Did you develop skills as a child through Girl Scouts, Little League, 4-H, or another organization? Was your family able to visit the San Diego Zoo or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for a vacation? Perhaps you have seen a nonprofit’s mission in action when rescue relief after a storm came your way? Perhaps you have witnessed in your own family the life-giving care of a meal or end-of- life nurturing for a family member? Friends of the local library or symphony promote reading and the arts, but as taxpayers we receive benefit when a nonprofit raises funds to buy equipment or brings in talent of which we can enjoy. One in eight jobs in the Brazos Valley is tied directly to the nonprofit sector, with healthcare as a large driver. According to the Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy at the Texas A&M Bush School of Government and Public Service, in 2018 an estimated $2 billion in Brazos Valley nonprofit expenditures generated $1 billion in gross product, $730 million in personal income, and $31 million in retail sales. For every dollar spent by nonprofit organizations, an additional $1.02 was generated in gross product, personal income and retail sales. We need nonprofits to thrive because they are economic engines that enhance our local economy.

Brazos Valley
Now more than ever, nonprofits play a critical role in creating equitable and thriving communities. We believe that nonprofits are where the Brazos Valley comes together to solve problems, promote civic engagement and connect leaders and innovators that make our towns true communities. However, they face serious challenges that limit their ability to serve the people and communities that rely on them. Throughout this pandemic, many have been forced to cancel events and fundraisers— and need your support. Brazos Valley Gives is 18-hours of on-line giving that brings the region together on one day and as one community to raise critical funding and awareness for nonprofit organizations throughout the Brazos Valley. Powered by the Community Foundation, Brazos Valley Gives provides citizens and businesses an easy platform to support the mission and good works of local nonprofit organizations that serve the Brazos Valley. Last year, 103 nonprofits participated with 100% of the nonprofits receiving a financial benefit from the $363,686 that was raised. Also, participating nonprofits were eligible for more than $25,000 in prizes that were awarded during our post-celebration event. This year, 136 nonprofits from 6 of the 7-counties within the Brazos Valley are participating! This community day of giving empowers individual donors and business leaders to come together to support causes close to their hearts – and where a small donor can feel just as important as a large donor. This day of “giving where you live” is being powered by the Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley, and all donations will pass-thru directly to the donor’s charity(ies) of choice. Join us as we put community first and give where we live on Tuesday, October 27! Visit brazosvalleygives.org and support the nonprofit community that makes the Brazos Valley thrive. 2020 Brazos Valley Gives Team Julie Porter, Co-Chair Molly Watson, Co-Chair Patricia Gerling, President/CEO, Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley T H E B R YA N - C O L L E G E S TAT I O N E A G L E
