How to tell when foundation repair is needed The foundation of a home impacts almost every other structural and architectural element. If movement associated with settling or upheaval compromises the foundation, the damage will trickle up through the rest of the structure.

In order to avoid long-term problems, it is essential to take care of any foundation repairs immediately and keep the foundation in good shape with preemptive steps and maintenance. Doing so will save time and money in the long term and help keep your home in prime condition.

When repairing a foundation, there are more than 1,600 patented foundation repair methods. When choosing the proper method for homes in the Brazos Valley, one needs to select a method designed specifically for the soil upon which the structure is placed.

Most of us probably take foundations for granted.

When something is amiss, we may not know the warning signs. As a homeowner, it’s essential to become well informed on this matter so that you can keep an eye out for symptoms of foundation problems.

Do you think you need foundation repair for your home? Symptoms of a bad foundation can be found on the interior and exterior of your home.

One exterior sign is cracks in bricks or mortar, or brick separation around windows and doors. Walk around your home and look for bricks that

have separated and large cracks in the mortar. If you find them, chances are you need some work. Check for curvature of the brick line.

This can be easily checked by looking along the sides of your home to see if the bricklines are straight, not curved.

Another exterior sign is large gaps in exterior doors.

Look at your garage door. Is it sitting as level as it used to?

Also check the front and back door to see if they are square and they open and close smoothly. If they do not, you might have some issues.

One interior symptom that is pretty obvious is cracks in drywall. Look at your

ceiling and walls and note any cracks. Small cracks may be from minor settling, but large ones may be a bigger problem.

Next, look at your floors. Are they no longer level? Also look at your cabinets and fireplace to see if they no longer sit flush. This indicates some kind of shifting with the walls.

Lastly, examine your interior doors. Do they no longer close or open properly? If so you might need foundation work.

Any of these symptoms may be a sign that your foundation is degenerating. If you see any of these warning signs, don’t panic. Remember that these are just symptoms of foundation problems. Your problems may not require attention, but a professional should examine them. If you do need foundation repair, hydraulically advanced

Cool temperatures during the winter season usually means a home has been closed up. Spring is a great time to open up the home, spruce it up and get ready for the warmer months. Organizing this task, both practically and psychologically, can reduce the stress and frustration that is often associated with spring cleaning.

We complete thousands of cleanings each year, and have developed the following strategic method to help break down the huge chore of cleaning the entire house into realistic tasks and goals: • Create a flexible yet comprehensive plan and put it on paper or your digital to-do list. Following a plan is easier to stick to as opposed to following a plan from memory. Decide when to clean and who is involved.

Stick to it and build that time into your schedule.

• Don’t try to tackle the whole house at once; otherwise you’ll get frustrated and procrastinate. Instead, set a goal to thoroughly clean one or two rooms every couple of days.

• Start with putting things where they belong in the area you are set to clean. Doing this before you begin to clean will speed you up. You will waste time and become discouraged if you have to stop in the middle of what you’re doing just to put something away in another room. Clean that clutter!

• Gather all the cleaning supplies you will need for the designated area before you start and carry them with you from room to room as you go.

This prevents unnecessary trips back and forth to your supply cabinet and makes the cleaning more efficient.

• Clean each room from top to bottom, moving around the room from left to right to ensure you don’t overlook door frames, door panels and window sills. Don’t forget the center of the room!

• Spring is great time to inspect and clean window treatments. Whether you need to wash blinds, send drapes and sheers to the dry cleaners or throw washable curtains into the washing machine, getting your window treatments clean after a long, dark winter will brighten an entire room.

• Dust first, and then vacuum! Crumbs, pet hair, etc. will fall to the floor as you’re cleaning. Instead of dusting and vacuuming bedrooms one at a time, first dust and then vacuum all the bedrooms. It saves time.

• Finally a tip to help repel dust during the time of year the home will be open more: wipe down ceiling fan blades, window blinds, door panels and baseboards with dryer sheets. This will help repel dust and keep them cleaner for a longer period of time.

Don’t forget to replace your air filters! Paper clip a dryer sheet to them, as well, to help the whole home smell fresher.

In this day and age, having a clean home is not always a top priority, with all the time demands put on us.

Apply for a credit card Retail and gas cards may help you build your credit history. But your credit score is partly determined from the variety of different credit you have, so adding a major credit card—like a Visa® or MasterCard® could help improve it. How to choose a podiatrist What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist, DPM, doctor of podiatric medicine, is the only health care professional whose total training focuses on the foot and related body systems. As a specialist in foot care, the podiatrist receives extensive training in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of foot disorders by medical and surgical means.

After obtaining an undergraduate degree, the podiatric doctor spends four years in a College of Podiatric Medicine to obtain a doctorate degree. Many podiatrists further their education by participating in a postgraduate residency program at an approved hospital or university.

Following their doctorate degree, each podiatrist must pass national and state examinations in order to be licensed by the state in which he or she will practice.

The podiatric physician cares for people of all ages, treating any foot problem. The common disorders include bunions, heel pain/spurs, hammertoes, neuromas, ingrown toenails, warts, corns and calluses. The podiatric physician also renders care of sprains, infections and injuries to the foot and heel.

If your podiatric surgeon is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, he or she has successfully completed a credentialing and examination process and has demonstrated a knowledge of podiatric surgery, including the diagnosis of general foot diseases, deformities and trauma of the foot and related structures.

Pay careful attention to details

The foot is a complex structure made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles and tendons. All of them deserve the focused attention and care that a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) can provide. For feet of all ages, the members of APMA provide high quality health care.

Details are carefully attended to in meeting the requirements of the health care needs of your feet. Good foot health is vital to your overall health. Podiatrists provide the vast majority of foot health care services in the United States. The primary mission of the APMA is to improve the quality of foot care in the nation. You do not need a temporary food permit if: • You are selling packaged food or canned/bottled drinks (sodas from a coke trailer are also OK). Packaged foods such as sandwiches, which require refrigeration, DO need a permit.

• You are serving tea, coffee, popcorn, cotton candy or snow cones.

• The food you are serving is from a permitted source such as a restaurant or supermarket. The permitted source should set up for temporary service and insure temperatures are correct and sustained.

• Your event has a guest list or a finite number of attendees and the public is not invited nor is the event advertised (example: wedding reception).

• Contact the Brazos County Health Department to fill out an application and pay the temporary event permit fee of $60 per vendor.

• View the video in the department on how to set up a temporary event.

• At a temporary event, all food must be prepared on site, no food can be made or come from home and the event may not operate more than 72 hours. Items that cannot be made on site must be purchased from a permitted facility (i.e. potato salad from a supermarket) and receipts should be made available.

• If the temporary event is not set up correctly or the inspector finds a violation, he/she has the authority to shut the temporary event down and/or issue an administrative fee of $60.00.

• Things you must have when setting up a temporary event: -a hand sink (water cooler with spigot) with catch bucket -a three basin sink or dish pans to wash utensils and must be labeled: 1. Wash 2. Rinse 3. Sanitize (use Clorox at one capful per gallon of water) -all personnel prepping food must wear a hair restraint and wear gloves -the three basin sink must have hot water -all cold foods must be

kept in ice and must hold a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Fahrenheit -all hot foods must be held at 135 degrees Fahrenheit -if restrooms are not in close proximity then Port-aPotties must be brought in • All hygiene items must be set up first.

-keep all personal items such as food, drink, clothing, cell phones) away from food prep/storage areas -all food and service ware must be kept off the ground
