BEST of ‘16 AUDIOLOGIST/HEARING AID SPECIALIST, HEARING AID CENTER

Robert Herring, Au.D. and the staff of Listen Hear Audiology Center are grateful for the continued support from our wonderful community. Listen Hear Audiology Center was founded on providing the highest level of hearing health care in Bryan and College Station and being voted as “Best Audiologist/Hearing Aid Specialist” and “Best Hearing Aid Center” is a true honor.

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Herring, Listen Hear Audiology Center has grown and has cared for over 4,000 people during that time. Many local physicians and caregivers regularly refer their patients for hearing care because they trust the services provided by Dr. Herring and his staff. Listen Hear Audiology Center provides a number of services, including:

• Comprehensive hearing testing • Hearing aid evaluation and fitting with multiple brands and lines from which to choose • Hearing aid repair and maintenance • Pediatric and adult care • Newborn hearing screening • Custom hearing protection, including electronic noise plugs for hunters and marksmen • Swim plugs • Tinnitus consultations Dr. Herring has invested significantly in new equipment over the past year, including a new state-of-the-art Real Ear Measurement (REM) system. REM, also called probe

microphone measurement, is an advanced way to measure the output and function of hearing aids while in the patient’s ears. A tiny microphone is placed a few millimeters from the eardrum, and testing is performed with and without the hearing aid. The hearing aids are then adjusted to meet very specific prescriptive targets for the individual’s hearing loss. Because we all have differently shaped ears and ear canals, REM gives much better

objective measurements for a precise hearing aid fitting. No guessing, just science. REM is what the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association recommend as a best practice. That is the difference in Listen Hear Audiology Center’s approach to helping people hear better. Dr. Herring is accepting new patients, and is only a phone call away to beginning the journey to better hearing.

BEST of ‘16 TAX SERVICE

Seidel Schroeder is honored and humbled to be recognized by the Brazos Valley as the “Best Tax Service” in the Readers’ Choice Awards. Our mission is to help our clients, employees and communities succeed. We are challenged to not only continue our mission for residents of the Brazos Valley, but to improve upon our ability to serve. Seidel Schroeder is a leading provider in income tax preparation, income tax planning, estate and gift tax planning, financial statement audits, management advisory and business consulting, retirement plan administration,

accounting and bookkeeping, payroll processing and business valuation services. Our firm employs over 85 individuals and is located in three communities. The size of our firm provides us a key advantage in our service by allowing us greater depth and experience with our employees. We do not subscribe to the “jack of all trades, master of none” philosophy. We believe that the tax and financial accounting spectrum is too extensive to justly master everything, and accordingly, have our staff specialize in different areas of the tax law, financial reporting and other

consulting services we provide. We are proud of the team that we have assembled; they have enabled our success. We believe that Vince Lombardi said it best, “The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.” The ongoing growth of our business in the Brazos Valley recently created the need for a new, larger building in Brenham. We continue to be excited about the opportunities that are available in the communities we serve. As Seidel Schroeder approaches our 50-year anniversary, we want to thank the communities in the Brazos Valley for putting their trust in us for so many years. The atmosphere at Seidel Schroeder is one of continuous learning, knowledge sharing and a bonded team. In addition to hours dedicated to continuing education, licensed CPAs are held to a higher

professional standard. Trust is a key component in our relationships with our clients. We are committed to providing services in a professional and ethical manner where client confidentiality is imperative. We pride ourselves here at Seidel Schroeder for not just doing our job but going above and beyond for our clients -developing a relationship as a trusted business advisor that

clients can come to with any situation and doing our best to provide our knowledge and skills to assist the needs of the client. Our goal is simple -- to be the firm of choice in the Brazos Valley. We want to be the firm of choice for clients; we want to be the firm of choice for referral sources; and we want to be the firm of choice for talented potential employees.

BEST of ‘16 HOSPICE COMPANY, CONSIGNMENT/ RETAIL SHOP

At Hospice Brazos Valley, patients and their families become part of the nonprofit organization’s family. The Eagle readers recognized the company for its dedication by voting it as “Best Hospice Company” and “Best Consignment/Retail Shop” in the 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards. Hospice Brazos Valley (HBV) first opened its Bryan headquarters in 1989. It provides end-of-life care to central Texans with a chronic or terminal illness, with a service area that encompasses all or part of 17 counties. Besides Bryan, HBV also has offices in Brenham and La Grange. In

addition, the nonprofit operates a resale store in Bryan and another in Brenham. The most recent addition, in 2012, was the Inpatient Facility, located on the north side of the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center in Bryan. “Quality of life goes beyond treating a life-limiting illness,” said Hospice Brazos Valley Manager of Access and Marketing Rhonda Watson. “It’s about living life as comfortably, fully and independently as possible.” HBV services include quality medical care, respite care and palliative care, with a focus on pain and symptom control; access to a care team member

around the clock; medicines, medical supplies and equipment related to terminal illness; and counseling and social support to help customers and their families with emotional and spiritual issues. HBV also offers volunteer support services, such as companionship, helping with a family’s everyday tasks and bereavement support for a loved one’s family before and after death. Although hospice care is centered in the home, it is sometimes necessary to admit patients to the HBV Inpatient Facility if they face symptoms such as uncontrollable pain. Once stable a patient can resume in-home care. At the thrift stores, HBV accepts and resells items such as clothing, shoes, housewares, jewelry, small furniture and books. This provides shoppers with a variety of inexpensive goods and HBV with funds for its patient services. CEO Craig Borchardt said

HBV is honored by the awards. Borchardt believes the “Best Hospice Company” award is a result of experience and trust. “We believe we have won because in our 27 years of service in the community, we have had the opportunity to serve over 14,000 patients,” he said. “At Hospice Brazos Valley, your family members become our family members, too. It’s our goal to take care of the sacred trust placed in us to care for someone near the end of

life’s journey.” The “Best Consignment/ Retail Shop” award is likely the result of hard work, added Holli Johnson, accounting assistant/ resale coordinator. “At our thrift store, we work very hard to keep our store clean, organized and, of course, our prices reasonable for our customers’ shopping pleasure,” Johnson said. “We also serve as an outlet for many families when finalizing their loved ones’ estate.”

BEST of ‘16 ITALIAN FOOD

The Eagle’s readers have recognized Caffé Capri for its delicious entrees, voting it as this year’s “Best Italian Food” winner in the Readers’ Choice Awards. Caffé Capri opened in September 1995, three months after Rami Cerone, restaurant owner, graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in management. Since then, the restaurant has grown significantly, along with the Downtown Bryan area. “While I had no plans to follow in my family footsteps and get into the restaurant business, a combination of searching for jobs that didn’t excite me and

the prospect of getting to stay in College Station with all of my friends made a restaurant look more appealing,” Cerone said. “Something about owning my own business and taking a risk -- it was easier to do as a 22 year old than later in life, I decided, so I opened my restaurant. The building I found was in downtown -- which at the time was run down and mainly vacant -- but it was relatively affordable. I hoped I would at least have enough of a lunch clientele to make the restaurant survive. Fast forward 21 years, and downtown is a destination, a charming escape from typical, and we have grown leaps and

bounds year after year.” Cerone described Caffé Capri as a creative Italian restaurant with an art-deco interior and an “amazing ambience.” It is open for lunch and dinner, and has become a “date place,” as well as an “everyday type of restaurant.” “I’ve kept our prices affordable; make our menu and dishes memorable; and keep the atmosphere lively,” he said. “Our Tortellini alla Capri is a longtime favorite, and outsells everything else on the menu two-to-one. Sautéed mushrooms, crab, basil and cream tossed with a ricotta filled tortellini pasta - customers come back for this time after time.” Cerone believes a unique atmosphere, creative menu and great staff members are attributes that set Caffé Capri apart from the competition. “Our atmosphere is unique and never stuffy,” he said. “Our menu is creative and different, while still being delicious. We

keep our prices affordable. And we have an amazingly loyal and steady staff that cares. Half of our staff has been with us for over 15 years - incredible in this industry.” Cerone felt honored by Caffé Capri winning its first Readers’ Choice award. “We have been fortunate to win many awards in our years -- Aggie 100, Newman 10, Best of the Brazos -- and this one has been elusive,” he said. “I’m so happy that The Eagle readers have enjoyed us and thought us worthy of being the best Italian restaurant in the city. I am still excited about the award.” Upon hearing the good news about the award, Cerone immediately notified his staff. “As soon as I found out, I called my staff and gave

them the good news,” he said. “And thanked them for their hard work and efforts, as the community has noticed. And I’m proud to be at the top.” Over the years, Caffé Capri has made some updates and tweaks, such as remodeling its banquet room and adding a bar downstairs for the waiting area. The business is now finalizing plans for an upper outdoor balcony to be added to the front of the building, which will give diners more space to enjoy the food and local ambience. “It will be great for downtown events, people watching and enjoying a drink while waiting for a table,” Cerone said about the addition. “I’m actually excited to sit there and enjoy some great Texas evenings with a glass of wine and friends.”

BEST of ‘16 CARDIOLOGIST

A heart attack is a frightening moment, not only for the person having it, but for that person’s family, as well. A good cardiologist is able to both treat the patient and help put the family at ease at the same time. With his attention to both the technical and emotional aspects of his practice, Dr. Kennon Wigley of the Central Texas Heart Center was named the 2016 Readers’ Choice “Best Cardiologist” winner. Dr. Wigley came to the Bryan/College Station area in 1989, and has been with the Central Texas Heart Center for 27 years, where he is a part of a talented team of doctors. Being

surrounded by quality doctors is something Dr. Wigley values dearly in his work. “The delivery of good medical care truly requires a team,” Wigley said. “I believe the quality of medical care in the Brazos Valley is high. I consider myself fortunate to be associated with many fine physicians in the community.” While his colleagues and the skilled staff of great facilities such as CHI St. Joseph Regional Hospital help Dr. Wigley succeed professionally, he looks to his faith and family for the inspiration to help him continue to provide the best care possible to his patients

and their families. “The opportunity to serve others in the medical profession is a God-given gift and a sacred trust,” Wigley said. “I believe all healing comes from the Lord. If we keep these principles in mind, the rest of the practice will take care of itself. Dr. Wigley embodies a team-first mentality and is quick to point out that while his is the name on the award, being named the 2016 Readers’ Choice for best cardiologist was a group effort. “I am thankful to have been selected for this honor, but I really believe this award is a testament to the entire staff who support our practice,” Wigley said, “including the front office personnel, nurses, medical assistants, imaging specialists and administrative staff who serve our patients and enrich their experience in our office and in the hospital.”

BEST of ‘16 CATERING SERVICE, BUFFET

Buppy’s has been feeding people for many years, and readers have again voted the restaurant and catering business as the winner of the “Best Catering Service” and “Best Buffet” categories in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Buppy’s is owned by Buppy and his wife, Jennifer Simank, and has been in business since 1990. The secret of Buppy’s success is listening to his customers’ wants and needs and, of course, great food. The motto of Buppy’s remains “WE FEED PEOPLE!” But it’s not just the

mouthwatering barbeque or famous fajitas that had customers voting Buppy’s No. 1. Buppy’s has been serving extensive menu items, such as Pecan Bourban Smoked Prime Rib, Parmesan Herb Stuffed Beef Tenderloin, Lobster, Shrimp, Apricot Stuffed Pork Tenderloin and Chipotle Smoked Salmon. The menu options are endless. As a full-service caterer, Buppy’s caters and delivers breakfast, brunch, lunch, corporate box lunches and dinner. It specializes in hors d’oeuvre receptions, buffets

and plated meals. No matter the scale of the occasion – from a simple meeting to an elaborate wedding, Buppy’s guarantees the event will be worry-free! Buppy’s philosophy is to work with customers every step of the way, so their event is flawless. It offers a large variety of rentals, such as place settings, linens, tables, chairs, tents and much more. Buppy’s Catering raises the bar for catered events, all over the state of Texas, with outstanding presentation and impeccable service. Buppy’s buffet opened in 1999 in Bryan at 506 Sulphur Springs Road, in response to an overwhelming demand by customers who wanted Buppy’s home-cooked meals without having to wait for a catered event. It seems to have hit a home run, with

Buppy’s buffet voted as “Best Buffet” again. Buppy’s serves up its special lunch buffet Tuesday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and its popular Sunday Brunch Buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Buppy’s also offers special event buffets throughout the year for Lent, Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Buppy’s weekday buffet includes its famous barbeque, entrees that change each day of the week, a large selection of sides, salads and desserts. It recently added some healthier options, as well. The Sunday brunch features entrees such as Prime Rib, Beef Tenderloin, Boiled Shrimp, Smoked Salmon,

Chicken & Waffles and Buppy’s popular chicken tenders -- just to mention a few. Buppy’s always serves a full breakfast, lots of sides, salads, desserts and drinks. The company understands the need for compassionate, comprehensive care. Licensed nurses, caregivers, certified nursing aids and medication aids are on duty 24-hours-aday, seven days a week. of the residents. The staff members are specially trained to aid residents with daily living needs such as bathing, dressing and medication supervision. “Prior to and upon admission, we assess residents to create a personalized care plan for them. We strive to create a care plan that will make the resident feel comfortable at home, while still

providing necessary nursing interventions,” Daniel said. The Isle at Watercrest Bryan understands that taking care of an individual includes addressing their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. “Focusing on emotional health and wellbeing is just as important as physical health,” Skyte said. The Isle at Watercrest’s innovative programming helps boost the residents’ self-esteem and quality of life, creating opportunities to connect to others. It offers classes held in the gym area, such as ThaiChi, Sit and Fit and Ball Toss. Emphasis is placed on the importance of physical activity

and healthy living. The Isle at Watercrest Bryan provides three full meals a day, with a fully-stocked coffee and snack bar for residents and visitors to enjoy all day. “We also offer specialized meals and diets that cater to residents’ clinical and nutritional needs,” Skyte said. Additional services include routine housekeeping and laundry assistance that is provided daily or as needed. The Isle at Watercrest Bryan currently has 51 units; 33 additional units are anticipated to be added by the end of summer. The new units will be located on the third floor, providing extended care for residents that need additional

support and assistance. “Our philosophy comes from the heart. BEST of ‘16 BARBEQUE

“Thank you Bryan/College Station for voting us “Best Barbeque” in the Brazos Valley for the 16th consecutive year! Wow! We are so grateful and appreciate receiving this award! It is a wonderful feeling to know your customers enjoy your food year after year and take the time to say so with their vote! We are very blessed to have a wonderful staff and pit masters that get up very early each morning to prepare our barbeque consistently every day. Our barbeque is slow cooked twice a day -- once for our

lunch crowd and then for dinner -- giving it that “just off the pit flavor.” Our customers have three locations to choose from, but many have their favorite. Our original location on Harvey Road opened in 1981; followed by the Bryan location in 2002; and then our location at Wellborn and Southwest Parkway in 2006. C & J Barbeque offers delivery service from all three locations. We require a 24hour notice, and will deliver with a purchase of $100 and up within the Bryan/College Station area.

Any deliveries or catering outside the city limits are welcome, but will be subject to a travel fee . Our full-service catering is offered for 50 guests and up. A request form can be found, along with menus and much more information, at cjbbq.com. Once your form is completed, a manager will get back with you to answer any questions and book your event. Our Bryan location offers two party rooms; one can hold up to 100 guests. We have hosted many rehearsal dinners, graduation parties, birthday parties and high school reunions. Call us at 979-8226033, so we can schedule your next party. We give a special “thank you” to The Eagle for providing this contest every year for our customers to let us know that they enjoy our food and that we are doing a good job!

C&J Barbeque offers several choices of mouthwatering meats, sides and desserts.

We live here and we spend our money locally, so it’s great to have the community respond back to us like this.”

BEST of ‘16 PATIO/OUTDOOR DINING

The Eagle readers recognized Ozona Grill & Bar for its fun outdoor dining environment, voting it as the “Best Patio/ Outdoor Dining” winner again in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. “We are honored to win a Readers’ Choice Award,” said Brian Morris, managing partner. “It lets us know that we are succeeding in pleasing our guests and providing them with a fun-filled atmosphere.” The original Ozona Grill & Bar opened in 1992 in Dallas. The College Station location opened in 2004. Known for its patio and food, owners felt that the restaurant would do well

with the college students and locals in Aggieland, Morris said. “Named after the unincorporated small West Texas town, Ozona Grill & Bar has an award-winning patio that has become a home away from home in College Station and Dallas,” Morris said. “Saturday and Sunday, enjoy brunch and the Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary. Year after year Ozona continues to offer a comfortable atmosphere, along with a diverse menu of homemade food and a large selection of drinks. Ozona fulfills everyone’s burning desire for a good ol’ time.” Besides the patio, the Bloody

Mary bar and brunch, another thing that stands out at Ozona is its award-winning chicken fried steak; it was voted as the “Best Chicken Fried Steak” in Dallas/Fort Worth by D Magazine in 2007. Ozona has also been featured on “Deep Fried Paradise 3: Grease is the world” on the Travel Channel, as well as in the book, “500 Things to Eat Before It’s Too Late” by Jane and Michael Stern. Ozona Bar & Grill has won “Best Patio/Outdoor Dining” multiple times, and Morris said that’s because “there is no other patio in College Station quite like ours.” The restaurant plans to keep doing what works for its customers. “We just keep doing what we’ve been doing to create a fun, relaxing atmosphere, with great food and drinks for our guests,” Morris said.

BEST of ‘16 DERMATOLOGIST

Brazos Valley Dermatology services Aggieland and the greater Brazos Valley, within a relaxed and considerate medical office environment. “We provide precise and individualized patient care, utilize dermatologic advances in our care, and advocate healthy skin through the prevention and treatment of dermatologic conditions. Our caring staff is what makes the difference,” says Dr. Jason Weaver. Perhaps that’s why The Eagle readers voted Dr. Jason Weaver as “Best Dermatologist” again in the 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards. Dr. Weaver said that a fascination with skin and a

passion to treat skin disorders led to his career in dermatology. After finishing medical school and a residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, there was a need for a dermatologist in the Bryan-College Station community, and he took the opportunity. He was happy to return to his hometown and to be able to care for patients in the Brazos Valley. Brazos Valley Dermatology first opened its doors in 2007. The Brazos Valley Dermatology team is committed to providing skin care solutions for teens and adults. In addition to Dr. Weaver, who is

a specialized, board-certified dermatologist, his team also includes a physician assistant, Caitlin Sears, PA-C; and additional experienced medical staff members. Weaver strives to offer new and advanced treatment techniques in the dermatology field. The mission of Brazos Valley Dermatology is to provide the highest quality medical and surgical dermatological care -- with exceptional service, integrity and an individualized patient plan. As one of Bryan/ College Station’s leading dermatology practices, it offers medical and surgical treatments for individuals suffering from various skin conditions. The dermatology practice manages dermatological problems, offers routine annual skin exams, and performs in-office surgery for the removal of skin cancers or benign growths. Dr. Weaver said a caring, knowledgeable team who

provides a high standard of care is what helps set Brazos Valley Dermatology apart. He has won The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice “Best Dermatologist” award the past six years, as well as “Best Dermatologist” in Bryan Broadcasting’s Best of the Brazos Valley competition the past three years. Dr. Weaver said his staff feels honored by the award. “We are honored to have been voted The Eagle Readers’

Choice again; I want my patient community to know how much they are appreciated. We will continue to care for the dermatological needs of our patients in the highest standards.” Brazos Valley Dermatology will soon offer new facilities with easier access for customers, with its new clinic opening in September, at 3632 Copper Crest Drive in Bryan.

BEST of ‘16 WAITER

Sal Garza started in the restaurant field at a young age. He stated working at Wyatt’s at 16 years old. Still in high school, he then moved onto DoubleDave’s, where he held the position of assistant manager. He also served as manager at Gattiland and at Wings ‘N More. His eyes were opened to his dream of owning his own restaurant. Soon after, at the young age of 24, Sal became the proud owner of Garpez Authentic Mexican Food. Sal had a strong passion for serving people and enjoyed waiting on customers daily. This strong love helped him open

Garpez Mexican Food and Cantina several years later. Sal’s appreciation for not only being an owner, but being able to participate in his business daily and also to have family around, was genuine. In honor of Sal, the decision was made to rename the restaurant “Sal’s Garpez.” On behalf of the family, we would like to thank all of those that voted and took part to ensure Sal’s great customer service was recognized. Though gone, Sal’s hard work that has been put into Garpez the past 14 years will forever live on. Thank you for choosing Sal as “Best Waiter” in the 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards.

BEST of ‘16 HOME HEALTH CARE COMPANY

The Eagle readers recognized Traditions Health Care for its dedication to patients and their families by voting it as the 2016 Readers’ Choice “Best Home Health Care Company” winner. “We are humbled that the community has recognized us for the work we do,” said Stuart Young, the company’s owner and chief strategy officer. “It is an honor to serve the families in the Brazos Valley.” Stuart and Bryan Wolfe opened Traditions Health Care in 2008, after they saw a need to provide quality home health care for Brazos Valley families. Not only did they want to provide great care, they wanted

to minister to patients and their families. “Our company provides nursing and various forms of therapy for the elderly at the patient’s home,” Young said. “We help our patients when they become ill or when they are recovering from surgeries and injuries. Our patients have stated over and over that our nurses and therapists are simply incredible and that they would not have recovered as well as they did without the help of our clinicians.” That kind of care is what sets Traditions Health Care apart from the competition. “Our customer service is

what separates us from other home health companies,” Young said. “We work closely with the patient’s physician and the patient’s family. We are very respectful to the patient and try our best to make them feel important and loved.” Young believes Traditions Health Care staff members’ dedication helped the company win the award. “We have been in the Brazos Valley for eight years, and we have served many families in the community,” he said. “The mission of Traditions Health Care is to promote health and independence in the patients we serve; to attract and retain exceptional health care professionals; and to conduct our business with compassion and integrity. Our staff lives and breathes the Traditions mission, and we believe that contributed to us being chosen for the award. This is our first time to win the award, and we are

honored to have been chosen.” When the company first opened, it started off with just a few patients, but by staying focused on its mission the last eight years, Young said Traditions Health Care has been able to expand to a service area that includes 52 Texas counties. In addition to home health care, the company also

has a hospice program that ministers to people in the last six months of their lives. “It is an amazing privilege to minister to patients in their last days,” he said. “Our hospice staff wants to assist as many patients as possible in the Brazos Valley, and is committed to being there for the patients, as well as the families.”

Mariott Homes, Inc. has won the 2016 Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Home Builder.” The Owner of Mariott Homes, Inc., Larry Mariott, believes that is due to his quality product, as well as his team members’ dedication to taking care of customers Mariott has been building homes in the Brazos Valley for 41 years, as of this August. He opened Mariott Homes, Inc. with the ambitions of building a structurally sound and quality home, while providing excellent customer service to his buyers. Quality materials, superior craftsmanship and customer service are the key elements to a pleasant home buying experience. The Mariotts want to build your dream home, tailor it to all of your needs and take care of you afterward, too. “From the time the lot is cleared, until well after the

BEST of ‘16 DESSERTS, DELI SANDWICH SHOP

From its simple beginnings, Must Be Heaven has grown with its customers’ appetites to include four locations in the Brazos Valley. They offer what no other locally-owned sandwich shop can -- variety, quality, value and location! It all started in 1982 in downtown Brenham with a simple menu featuring a limited selection of sandwiches, quiche, baked potatoes and desserts. Connie Wilder believed that the city would never allow its heart and soul to die, so she invested in equipment, inventory and a small staff to begin her dream. Connie’s business thrived. She sold her venture to Shirley

Syptak, who took Must Be Heaven to another level, but it wasn’t until 1999 when Traci and Charlie Pyle, new transplants from Bryan, began to expand the core sandwich menu to new heights. The Pyles, along with Donna and Baine Morrow, the owners of the three Bryan-College Station locations, took the original core menu, which included Must Be Heaven’s proprietary Tuna Salad and Chicken Salad recipes, and literally and figuratively brought it into the 21st century. New bread selections, such as sliced sourdough, ciabatta buns, Kaiser rolls, French baguettes and croissants were

added to the fresh-baked options of sliced wheat and rye. A wide variety of cheeses, such as Swiss, cheddar, American, Muenster, pepper jack and provolone can be selected for any sandwich. In addition to their classic deli sandwiches, customers can choose from a list of specialty sandwiches, including the all-time favorite Reuben, the mouthwatering Muffuletta, the fiery Chicken Diablo, the huge Sausage & Kraut, Hoagie, Classic Club and The Works sandwich. For a more refined pallet, the grilled Salmon Filet, the California Club or the Grilled Cheese & Pesto sandwich may be more desired. There is something for everyone at Must Be Heaven, including over a half dozen vegetarian sandwiches. A visit to Must Be Heaven is not complete without a sampling of its extensive dessert menu. A variety of cheesecake options complement the

extensive daily pie selections. Must Be Heaven’s willingness to push the limits led to the creation of a pie called “Sawdust.” This customer favorite includes coconut, pecans, graham cracker crumbs and sugar baked off with egg whites and vanilla and ultimately topped with fresh sliced bananas and whipped cream. It’s always humbling

to hear from new customers that the Coconut Meringue Pie, which is available every day, tastes just as good as Grandma’s! Success is driven by demand, and demand is created when a business offers a consistent, quality product at a price point that is perceived to be a value by customers. We invite you to give us a try.

Must be Heaven is known for its homemade menu items, such as sandwiches and pies.

BEST of ‘16 FUNERAL HOME

I believe it was John D. Rockefeller who once said, “Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” While those are certainly wise words to live by, why settle for being “great” when you can be exceptional? At Hillier Funeral, Cremation & Bereavement Specialists, “The Difference Is Service.” For nearly 100 years, Hillier Funeral Cremation and Bereavement Specialists have been working tirelessly to challenge our brand against the norms of the funeral home industry. Those efforts over the last century, coupled with our longevity, our name and our brand have respectfully earned a reputation of excellence. For three consecutive years

running, Hillier Funeral Cremations and Bereavement Specialists have been voted “Best Funeral Home” in the Brazos Valley by the folks in our community. We take that award with great pride and honor in knowing that our actions speak louder than words to not only our community -- but to the people we serve. Celebrating Life

In this circle of life, whether brilliant or mundane, all lives end the same. Because every story is unique, we want every family we serve to feel confident in knowing the life of their loved one will be celebrated uniquely. The service and experience we

offer our families are the best of the best -- not only here locally -- but across the nation. In order to provide comfort and support to our family and friends within our community, we have the honor to serve. We provide a variety of options for funeral and memorial services. Why do I hear so much about cremation lately? According to the National Funeral Directors Association, only 13 percent of adults surveyed said they’d want a traditional funeral service. An estimated 62 percent said they’d like to customize the event. We are seeing that number increase daily to include cremation inquiries. Requests for cremation services are on the uprise rapidly across the nation including Texas and the Brazos Valley. In an effort to keep up with the growing requests, as well as offer a service that no funeral home in all of Central Texas has to offer -- we will soon be unveiling Brazos

Valley’s very first “crematory chapel.” Our cremation facilities are located within the walls of Hillier Funeral Home under the direct supervision of our specialists. We will have the only cremation chapel that will allow family and friends to say goodbye in their own unique way. From religious services, to full military honors, to small family personal gatherings, Hillier Cremation Chapel will allow up to 60 people to take part in your cremation services. Far too often, we see funeral homes place cremation chambers within a funeral home, and then make a small 10x12 viewing room, allow you to see your loved one through a thick window, name it after a cute flower, and think that is what families want or need to grieve. This is just one of the differences that we speak about.

We want you to honor your loved one in a way that allows you to look back, years from now, knowing you did the best you could to honor their life. Creating a ceremony that calls together the hearts and minds of all who loved them is an eternal gift. A gift of memories, a gift of healing. We’re not in the funeral business because people die. We’re in this business because people live. Life is precious from the womb to the tomb; we are here to help you honor your family in the worst time of their life. We are here to bear the burden of grief for you and your family and tell your story. At Hillier, we do not focus on the end, but instead the entire path of life; that’s something to celebrate. Call us to learn more about the unique and affordable services we provide our families.

BEST of ‘16 HAMBURGER, FRENCH FRIES

KOPPE BRIDGE BAR & GRILL

Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill was voted for the “Best Hamburger” and “Best French Fries” in the 2016 Readers’ Choice competition, recognizing the business for over 24 years of feeding the best juicy burgers and tasty fries to hungry Aggies, visitors and of course, loyal locals. Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill has two College Station locations -11777 Wellborn Road and 3940 Harvey Road, owned by Delph Ross and his wife Glenda Ross. Koppe Bridge started as a local spot out in the county on Wellborn Road with the vision of serving a few burgers and some really cold beer. After 10

years, the second location on Harvey Road was added. The restaurant also expanded to include a menu with enough variety to satisfy any hungry appetite. Glenda believes Koppe Bridge won the two awards because of fresh, quality food. “Our goal is to serve the freshest product possible and to provide our customers with a dining experience that is unique to Aggieland,” she said. “Our meat is ground to our specifications by a local meat company. It is delivered as fresh as you can get it, along with our produce and other quality food items.”

Besides Koppe Bridge’s award-winning burgers and fries, another menu item that has become a favorite with many of its customers is the hand-battered chicken fried steak plate. Koppe Bridge adds new items to the menu from time to time, which recently includes the popular Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and Baja Fish tacos that can either be ordered fried or grilled. It has also recently added several new appetizers, and has introduced smaller portion sizes on a few of its menu items to offer more options for those wanting a little less than its typical generous portions. Koppe Bridge’s goal for excellence and its staff are part of what makes it successful, Glenda said. “We always strive for the best quality product possible at a fair price, and anything short of that is not acceptable,” she said. “We have an excellent staff

of employees that we entrust to uphold the integrity of our business on a daily basis. It is our belief that living in our great community has great rewards, and our mission also includes giving back to our community. We pride ourselves on using local vendors and service providers in the daily course of our business. Above all, enduring commitment, the

highest ethical standards, and never taking your blessings for granted are the basic keys to our success.” Glenda thanked her loyal customers for voting Koppe Bridge as “Best Hamburger” for the 17th consecutive year, as well as “Best French Fries.” For more information on Koppe Bridge, visit www. koppebridge.net.

of ‘16 BEST AUTO PARTS STORE, AUTO REPAIR SHOP, NEW CAR DEALER, USED CAR DEALER

Atkinson Toyota was voted the 2016 “Best Auto Repair Shop,” “Best Auto Parts Store,” “Best New Car Dealer” and “Best Used Car Dealer.” Paul Atkinson, with Atkinson Toyota, attributed winning such accolades year after year to three things: people, processes and product. “It’s not about me,” Atkinson said. “We have the best people. They really care about what they do.” Atkinson Toyota associates compose the dealership’s processes based on how customers would like them improved, and Toyota is a great product because of quality, dependability and reliability, he said.

“It speaks volumes about our people and our processes,” he said about the dealership winning all of these categories in the 2016 Readers’ Choice awards. “It’s always humbling when the folks in your community vote you the best.” The dealership has also won the “President’s Award”awarded by Toyota to the top 1 percent of Toyota dealerships in the United States - 17 consecutive years. It has also won Readers’ Choice and the Best of the Brazos Valley awards numerous times. Jason Ortgies, general manager for Atkinson Toyota, said, “We must be doing something right. Like the personal attention to our

customers or that when you drive up to the dealership, you are approached by one of our friendly greeters. Or maybe the Wi-Fi service in our waiting area, along with offering a bottle of cool water to our customers. It’s the friendly welcome to our guests and having a personal service consultant to address your concerns. We are very excited to be honored with these awards and it’s proof that what we try our best to do every day is recognized by our customers.” Atkinson Toyota’s focus is on creating an atmosphere showcasing its awardwinning Toyotas, its awardwinning employees and their commitment to customer service and product knowledge. All manufacturers are building better vehicles that last longer. The average car on American roads is 11.5 years old, Ortgies said. The increasing consumer confidence has been evident locally at Atkinson Toyota. “Our last few months have been phenomenal,” Ortgies said,

adding that Atkinson has been growing its stocking level of vehicles, as well as its staff. The Toyota brand is the leading manufacturer for miles per gallon, is safer than ever, and also has the hybrid Prius. Atkinson said he had the opportunity to visit Japan, and learned why it’s an ideal place for manufacturing the “very best product.” The Japanese use a term, “kaizan” that means continuous improvement. “Toyota is about improving every single day,” he said. “That’s what sets them apart.” Atkinson Toyota has also held the Repo Joe Sale for the last 15 years. The monthly used car event has become a big event with car shoppers and helps create new Atkinson customers each time. Atkinson said he has learned what it takes to have a successful business over the years. “Hire the best people you can,

be very clear on their goals and objectives, give them the tools they need to reach those goals and objectives and get out of their way,” he said, noting that the latter was the hardest part for him to learn. “Let them do their job.” Whether it’s from a new car sale, a Repo Joe event or an experience with their top-notch service department, Atkinson Toyota continues to win over people in the Brazos Valley. Atkinson and his team are right there with smiles on their faces, ready to help you how ever they can. “We’ve served thousands of customers,” Atkinson said. “We’re honored by the trust and loyalty they have in us, and we’re going to do everything in our power to continue to earn that trust.” For more information about Atkinson Toyota, including current inventory, visit http:// atkinsontoyota.com.

BEST of ‘16 VETERINARY CARE, PET BOARDING

Staff members at Boonville Animal Hospital, winner of “Best Veterinary Care” and “Best Pet Boarding” awards, share their customers’ passion for animals. Boonville Animal Hospital started in 1979, and in 1998 moved to its current location, 5665 FM 1179 in Bryan. Many things have changed over the years, but staff members’ warm, friendly service and compassion for animals remains, said Michael Glade, owner and DVM. Boonville Animal Hospital employs four doctors and about 20 support staff members to help care for customers’

four-legged family members. Boonville Animal Hospital offers services for large and small animals at the clinic, and offers farm calls to take care of animals without the added stress of traveling. Staff members provide medical and surgical procedures that include general, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. They also help families customize preventative health plans to prevent their pets and herds from disease. Staff members were excited about the awards. “We are thrilled and thankful for all the community support we receive,” Glade said. “We

owe a large amount of our success to our phenomenal employees and loyal clients. They, and their pets, are our favorite part of our job. Thank you!” He believes Boonville Animal Hospital won the awards because of wonderful employees and clients, and he hopes everyone who visits has an exceptional experience. Glade said employees’ professional, caring service is part of what sets it apart from competition. “We strive to provide professional medicine and surgery at an affordable price with a caring atmosphere to make your family pets feel comfortable and loved,” he said. “We employ passionate employees who are crazy about animals and great at nurturing them back to health. We develop strong personal relationships with our clients, and appreciate their friendship

and passion for their pets. We feel we are truly blessed to have the best jobs in the world, and

get excited each time we get to visit with any of our patients and clients.”

BEST of ‘16 DENTIST

The Eagle readers recognized Dr. William Privett, DDS, along with his staff at Heart of Texas Dentistry, for their quality dental care by voting Privett as the 2016 Readers’ Choice “Best Dentist” winner. “We feel very blessed and humbled by our patient family who’ve acknowledged our efforts to provide superior dental care for them,” Privett said. “Being voted the best by the readers for a second time absolutely proves it. We thank all of them cordially.” Heart of Texas Dentistry is a full-spectrum dental operation. The clinic offers the utmost in dental care, from restorative to

cosmetic and from pediatrics to geriatrics and everyone in between. This type of care is what makes the clinic stand out. “We strive to create the most personable and comfortable dental experience possible, which is one thing that sets our practice apart,” Privett said. “Also, our office also accepts a variety of dental plans. This means we accept a lower fee because we understand that families have a limited amount of dollars for dental care. We try to make dental appointments as economical as possible, but we never substitute quality for quantity. We use the same quality materials and dental

2016

labs as most boutique dental offices.” Privett said his practice is always evolving, as staff members keep up with

the latest techniques and technology. The clinic recently added laser dentistry, and upgraded the computer and digital X-ray systems.

“Our practice seems to grow every year,” he said. “We’d like our patients to know that we will be here for them for many more years to come.”

BEST of ‘16 ANTIQUE STORE

Bird’s Nest Gifts & Antiques came after years of hunting for vintage and antique treasures. We are a family of pickers and spend our weekends searching far and wide. Robin started it all by offering her weekend finds in a small booth at a local antique mall — eventually outgrowing that space and expanding to another mall, as well. Five antique booth spaces later, we decided we needed to combine our merchandise and efforts as a family and open our very own antique store. What started as a weekend hobby had turned into a passion and a dream to join the Downtown Bryan scene.

When the old Heritage Menswear Store on Main Street, built in 1865, came on the market, Robin and her sister, Candace, jumped at the opportunity to own a piece of Bryan’s history. This was a gutsy move for a newly retired teacher and a full-time nurse, but they were determined to make this happen, along with the support of our whole family. We thought we had what it took to open a successful, fun and unique antique store. As a family, we combined our tastes, talents and personalities to create Bird’s Nest Gifts & Antiques. We opened our doors in June 2015, and since then our shop

has exceeded all expectations, thanks to our loyal Bryan/ College Station customers. Bird’s Nest is a combination of nine family members. That’s what makes us unique. We all have different tastes — you’re not just getting one type of style from us. We range from primitive antiques to retro kitchen wares and everything in between. Our store is displayed in a way that you can see how to use antiques combined with new items to decorate your home. We don’t have priceless artifacts behind glass doors. We have pieces you can enjoy and use! We take vintage everyday items like chippy windows, antique corbels, farm tools and old crates, and use them in a way that adds visual interest and fun southern charm to your home. Antiques don’t have to be stuff y and boring. We show you a fresh, new way to use old treasures!

Along with antiques, Bird’s Nest offers vintage-inspired new home decor items. We have also made it our goal to support other Texas-based small businesses by offering clothing, artwork, jewelry, candles, jams, jellies and salsas made right here in the great

state of Texas. Stop by and take a stroll through our store and say “Howdy!” We have enjoyed getting to know our customers and making new friends. Thank y’all so much for voting us “Best Antique Store.” It means so much to have the support of our whole community!

BEST of ‘16 ORTHODONTIST

Winning The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award for the ninth time has been a wonderful experience for Dr. Troy Elms and his team. “What makes us most excited is the challenge of constantly advancing the orthodontic experience and exceeding patient expectations. Receiving The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice award is a confirmation that we are getting it right with the people we care about most – our patients,” said Dr. Elms. A “positive patient experience” is a key phrase in Dr. Elms’ practice. Regular team meetings center on shaping the patient experience to ensure higher and higher levels of satisfaction,

efficiency and enjoyment. The Elms team does this by focusing on the most minute of details. The list is endless, as is Dr. Elms’ quest to keep refining his craft. Dr. Elms treats two distinct groups of patients that his practice serves exceedingly well: the young students who are getting braces for the first time and adults who may have had braces as a child and need adjustments to their bite, or adults who have never had braces. For adults, the treatment choices are becoming increasingly diverse and effective. Ranging from iBraces, that are invisibly installed on the back of teeth; Clarity ceramic braces that are translucent and nearly invisible;

and Invisalign, which are not braces at all, but a clear aligning system that has become very popular within recent years. These and other techniques all offer effective alternatives to conventional braces for adults. When it comes to youth orthodontics, Dr. Elms is in a league of his own. Students love the Elms experience, beginning with the Orthomobile - which is the free, chauffeured Hummer shuttle, to and from school. Fun is also a big component for the student patients, including the most anticipated Elms summer event – the annual Adamson Lagoon swim party, where hundreds of patients from the Brazos Valley have the party of the summer, courtesy of Elms Orthodontics. Dr. Elms has not only managed to create a truly special environment, but has done so without compromising orthodontic quality. This combination is what endears

patients to Dr. Elms, his loyal staff and to the great results they produce. Located conveniently on the Northeast corner of the intersection of the Highway 6 Bypass and F.M. 2818/Emerald Parkway, Dr. Elms’ building has become the benchmark for what a modern orthodontic practice can be. A huge porte-cochere welcomes cars and knocks the

Texas heat off arriving patients. The interior harbors a thousand little touches to make it special like an in-house movie theater and iPads at each treatment station. If you are considering braces for your child or yourself, give Dr. Elms a visit. It will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made and one of the best experiences. You’re going to love Elms Orthodontics!

Dr. Troy Elms and his staff at Elms Orthodontics help patients of all ages with their orthodontic needs.

BEST of ‘16 MUSEUM

The Eagle readers have shown their appreciation for the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and its ability to tell the story of its namesake, George H. W. Bush, by voting it as this year’s “Best Museum” in the Readers’ Choice Awards. The George Bush Library and Museum, at 1000 George Bush Drive West in College Station, opened in November 1997. “President Bush chose to put his library here because he felt a deep connection with the spirit, tradition and military heritage of Texas A&M,” said Warren Finch, director of the George Bush Presidential Library

and Museum. The Bush Library and Museum cares for more than 44 million pages of official documents and donated collections from George H. W. Bush’s presidency and throughout his public career, as well as more than 120,000 artifacts. Many of these papers and artifacts are on display in the museum and are accessible to researchers online and on site in the research room. The museum also uses primary source documents to enhance its many education programs. The library and museum underwent a major renovation

and rededication 10 years after opening -- adding many more interactive exhibits, videos and hands-on activities. Additionally, it features changing temporary exhibits that highlight various aspects of President Bush’s life and career. Currently, the “Driven to Drive: Defining Our Identity” exhibit is being featured through Jan. 8, 2017. Finch said the museum is unique because of its ability to tell the story of Bush’s life. “We’re fortunate to be able to tell the story of George H. W. Bush,” Finch said. “He was a war hero, entrepreneur, congressman, ambassador, CIA director, vice president and president. Our visitors will learn much about history, government and the value of public service.” The museum has won the award in years past, and Finch said Bush Library and Museum officials are honored to win the accolade again. “We’re very honored to again

be named the ‘Best Museum,’” he said. “We greatly appreciate the continued support of our friends and neighbors in the Brazos

Valley, as well as visitors who come from across the country and around the world to visit our museum and community. “

BEST of ‘16 LIQUOR STORE

Spirited tailgates. Fun-filled backyard barbecues. Festive dinner parties. People in College Station have plenty of opportunities to enjoy refreshing beverages and gourmet foods. And when they do, they turn to Spec’s Wines, Spirits and Finer Foods, the 2016 Readers’ Choice for “Best Liquor Store.” Since 1962, family-owned Spec’s has been providing exceptional savings on an impressive selection of unique finds for hungry and thirsty Texans. A vital part of their long-running success has been their mission to make and keep customers happy.

Back on April 1, 1962, Carroll Jackson — affectionately nicknamed “Spec” because of his signature eyeglasses — opened the first Spec’s with his wife, Carolynn, in Houston. One day, Spec sketched a caricature of a bunny with glasses, symbolizing his quick, friendly service. People loved it, and it has been the Spec’s logo ever since. In less than 10 years, the demand for more Spec’s locations grew. The Jacksons’ daughter Lindy and her husband John Rydman came on board in 1971, and just three years later,

they introduced the largest selection of wines Houston had ever seen. Now with Texas’ largest selection of wines, spirits and beers at more than 100 locations across the state, Spec’s has truly become a destination shopping experience and a Texas institution. “We serve thousands of people in our stores across Texas,” said Lisa Rydman, third generation spokesperson. “And to stay true to my grandfather’s mission of keeping customers happy, our promise is to treat each and every one of you like our only customer.” So whether you’re a firsttime customer or a long-time fan, make sure you shop at Spec’s for an impressive selection of unique products at incredibly low prices and a big helping of hospitality. The fun starts here!

BEST of ‘16 ANESTHESIOLOGIST, PHYSICIAN

The Eagle readers showed their confidence in Dr. Mark Brauer and his team at American Anesthesiology of Texas, voting them in the Readers’ Choice awards as “Best Physician” and “Best Anesthesiologist.” Brauer, American Anesthesiology of Texas medical director, felt humbled to be voted “Best Physician.” “Being able to take care of fellow human beings is a privilege I try never to lose sight of, and I hope to pass this insight on to the next generation of physicians,” said Brauer, Class of 1985 Aggie. “I am indeed blessed, and being named ‘Best Physician’ has truly been both overwhelming and humbling at the same time.” Formed as Brazos Anesthesiology Associates in July 1985, American Anesthesiology of Texas is a devoted group of highly trained and skilled anesthesia professionals that has committed itself to serving the health care

needs of the Brazos Valley for more than three decades. Brazos Anesthesiology Associates merged with American Anesthesiology in May 2012 to become American Anesthesiology of Texas. American Anesthesiology of Texas is a subsidiary of Mednax, Inc., a national medical group that comprises the nation’s leading providers of neonatal, anesthesia, maternal-fetal and pediatric physician subspecialties. Currently comprised of 19 board-certified anesthesiologists and 26 certified registered nurse anesthetists -- and supported by amazing office staff personnel and pain management nurses -- American Anesthesiology of Texas is the largest private practice, single-specialty group in the area. As a result, the team is able to provide comprehensive anesthesia services, including complete perioperative anesthesia management, regional anesthesia, obstetrical anesthesia, trauma

anesthesia and acute pain management - to CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center, College Station Medical Center and The Physician’s Centre -- 24 hours/ day, 365 days a year. American Anesthesiology of Texas has also expanded to cover anesthesia needs at several freestanding and office-based surgical centers throughout the community. The practice’s strength lies in its people - dedicated and compassionate staff, doctors and nursing specialists who work together as a team to provide the safest anesthesia care possible, Brauer said. Many team members have been with the practice for over 20 years, and five of the original founding members are still with the group. The combined wealth of education, training and clinical experience within this group is unmatched anywhere in the Bryan-College Station community. “I feel honored and privileged just getting up every day, knowing I’m getting to work alongside some of the finest medical professionals anywhere,” Brauer said. “The doctors, CRNAs, nurses and other health care personnel both within this practice, as well as within this community, are truly outstanding. And having the opportunity to meet new

patients every day, work with and help train students, and help guide patients safely through their perioperative experience -- what more could I ask for?” So if anesthesia and surgery is in your future -- planned or maybe not so planned -- patients can rest assured that the caring

professionals at American Anesthesiology of Texas will be with them every step of the way to carry them safely through their experience. Every minute of every hour of every day. When you need American Anesthesiology of Texas, they’ll be there.

BEST of ‘16 REAL ESTATE AGENT

Whether buying or selling a house, having the right real estate agent can make the transaction considerably easier. When readers of The Eagle were asked, RE/MAX Select agent Monica Palasota was clearly chosen as the “Best Real Estate Agent” in the 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards. For more than 13 years, Monica has been passionate about providing the best possible service to her clients. Having her clients show their appreciation through this award is an honor and something she is thankful for. “This award has special meaning to me since it was

given by the community, the readers and my clients,” Monica said. “Winning is such a blessing. It confirms my belief that my hard work is satisfying my clients.” Monica is a Bryan native, and along with her husband and high school sweetheart, Richard, she has raised her own family here, too. Having been a member of this community her entire life, Monica has built a strong network of friends and colleagues, which allows her to go above and beyond what the average real estate agent can do. She is able to help her clients find their ideal homes and purchase it at the ideal

price. She has a team of lenders, suppliers, repairmen, movers and stagers that make her a virtual one-stop shopping real estate service. She and Richard also own Richmon Homes, meaning Monica can help families looking to build their dream home, as well. “I want to be the kind of Realtor clients know they can rely on to get the most out of their real estate experience,” she said. “My clients know they can call me any time during and after the transaction. They are confident when making referrals to me because they know their friends will receive the same priority and great service they received.” Monica credits her success to the fact that she treats her clients as business partners during the home buying or selling process. She strives to make the process a team effort, and includes her clients throughout the transaction.

This allows the client a strong voice in the decisions along the way. The end result is usually something stronger than a regular agent-client relationship. “I love my job, and I love working with the people in this community,” she said. “As I work with clients, many become more like family to me.”

The local real estate market is large, and there are many agents from whom shoppers may choose. Monica knows this and is grateful to be singled out by her clients and the community as one of the best. Energized from her Readers’ Choice award, she is ready to make new friends and help more people find their dream home.

It seems like only yesterday that the first Napa Flats WoodFired Kitchen opened in College Station. Tom Kenney, Owner and Chief Busboy, and Tony Abdalla, Managing Partner/ Director of Operations, had the goal of opening a neighborhood restaurant to share their love of chef-inspired food with friends, family and community. Their vision was simple: cuisine inspired by California flavors with an Italian flair, made from scratch and then prepared in an open kitchen over a wood–fired grill. Tom and Tony wanted a menu that felt familiar without being common. Their

of their gelato in-house using a genuine Italian gelato machine. Working with architects helped them create an interior designed to complement their menu, and they focused on the details that created an engaging ambiance – an abundance of natural light, an open kitchen and appealing textures. They even selected acoustic ceiling tiles that absorb the noise, but at the same time doesn’t diminish the restaurant’s energy. When it came to wines, they wanted to offer a variety of their favorite Napa Valley and California wines at an exceptional value, either by the bottle or glass. Wine on tap allows Napa Flats to provide wine-by-the-bottle quality by individual glass, served at the perfect temperature to enhance the taste. BEST of ‘16 CREDIT UNION

Aggieland Credit Union, this year’s “Best Credit Union” winner in the Readers’ Choice awards, stands out because of its partnerships with members. Jason Goodman, senior vice president/COO, believes Aggieland Credit Union won the award because of its daily efforts to take care of its members. “The community recognizes the daily effort of our staff to be their financial partner,” Goodman said. “Winning the award the last three years is reflective of our commitment to the

50 | July 31, 2016

community and their confidence in us.” Goodman said employees’ relationship-driven focus is what sets them apart from the competition. “Our credit union is built upon the foundation of people helping people and our member-owners have experienced the relationship-driven focus of our staff,” he said. “We pride ourselves on building a partnership that can last a lifetime for those just starting out, to those preparing for retirement. Our members and our staff make the difference,

and that has enabled us to grow with the surrounding communities.” Goodman said Aggieland Credit Union appreciates the award and what it stands for. “We are always thankful for our members and for their trust to serve as their community credit union,” he said. As a branch of Greater Texas Federal Credit Union, Aggieland Credit Union’s history starts with its charter in 1952. Locally, Texas Aggie Credit Union started in the mid-1980s to serve the faculty, staff and students of Texas A&M University. Over the years the business has grown along with the community to serve all of Aggieland. The credit union recently opened a fourth location in south College Station, making it the 19th location

for the credit union. “Our credit union, much like our industry as a whole, has changed and adapted in the services and products that we provide to meet the needs of our members,” Goodman said. “With any new service or product, and along with our expanded branch network, we strive to enhance convenience for our members.” As a full-service financial institution, Aggieland Credit Union provides a wide range of banking products, such as savings and checking accounts, including IRAs or HSAs. A unique service offered

is Shared Branch access -- credit unions across the country have built a network of over 5,000 locations across the country where members can access their account. BEST of ‘16 PIZZA

DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks was voted the 2016 Readers’ Choice winner for “Best Pizza,” and the district manager believes that could be because of its diverse -- but consistently fresh and tasty – food, and an open kitchen with visible, hospitable and accessible staff. DoubleDave’s offerings include: dine-in, pick-up, carryout, delivery, online ordering, a Monday/ Wednesday night buffet and a daily lunch buffet. Products include a salad bar, build-your-own-pizza, specialty pizzas, world famous Peproni Rolls, Stromboli, sandwiches, buffets and desserts. Joseph

Adair, district manager for DoubleDave’s Brazos Valley, said customer favorites are the lunch buffet, Peproni rolls and the Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli. One way DoubleDave’s sets itself apart from the competition, Adair said, is by making dough and sauce by hand every day. “Fresh, local produce and quality meats round out our superb product,” he said. “We also set ourselves apart because we offer the services of all other pizza businesses combined. Some deliver and carry out, and some feature a buffet. We do it all. The amount of pizza we can pump out on a daily basis from all three

locations is mind-boggling at times.” Adair believes DoubleDave’s won “Best Pizza” because it offers “a consistent, yet diverse product with a smile.” The eatery offers a lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day, and always takes customer requests. Another likely reason for winning is that DoubleDave’s offers a free buffet for kids 6 and under (with a paying adult). Adair appreciates customers voting for DoubleDave’s. “I feel grateful and appreciative,” Adair said. “For readers and customers to vote for us is an honor. They are the reason we do what we do day in and day out, and their acknowledgement makes it all well worth the hard work.” Adair said DoubleDave’s started right here in College Station in 1984, with the current ownership taking over in 1998. The local ownership group relocated every restaurant over a

period of time in order to better serve the growing Bryan/College Station community. “We went from a couple of kiosks to full production in 11 individual concession stands at Kyle Field in 2014, and I believe it enhanced the experience of game day, adding local flavor,” Adair added. He said DoubleDave’s staff

members are always working to make web services smoother, quicker and more user-friendly. Also, DoubleDave’s on Texas Avenue now offers Taylor Made Gluten Free bakery crusts in five varieties of pizza. Joe said he “looks forward to the opportunity to serve new and returning customers in the years to come.”

This year, CHI St. Joseph Health is incredibly proud to congratulate CHI St. Joseph Health Express, Amy Ponzio, RN, BSN, CFRN, LP and Ali Daftarian, MD on being named 2016 Readers’ Choice selections for “Best Urgent Care Facility,” “Best Nurse” and “Best Pain

Management Physician.” All of our physicians, along with the more than 3,000 employees who work here, are in constant pursuit of higher levels of care for our patients. We’re grateful to receive recognition from our community, and we’re dedicated to making a positive impact in

the life of each patient we treat. This means breaking ground with new treatments and facilities that are equipped to provide you with the best possible care. One of these facilities is our new 24,500-squarefoot Emergency & Trauma Center, which continues our legacy of care with the latest advancements and a facility designed to streamline every aspect of treatment. For more than 80 years, we’ve been the proven leader in delivering the highest-level emergency and trauma care for residents in the Brazos Valley and throughout the nine-

county area. Whether it’s a minor emergency or major trauma, we are now better equipped than ever to deliver the expert care you or a loved one needs. The Highest-Level Trauma Center in Nine Counties (Level II)

When minutes count, where you go can make the critical difference. CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital’s Emergency & Trauma Center is the only Level II Trauma Center in a nine-county area. This verification by the American College of Surgeons and designation by the Texas Department of State Health Services means that we have exceeded rigid standards for readiness, response times and specialized coverage. Plus, we are one of only a handful of trauma centers in the nation that operates both ground and air ambulance service. Private, Spacious Rooms for Patient Comfort

Emergency situations are never easy on the patient or their loved ones. Everything about our new Emergency & Trauma Center has been designed to enhance patient care, efficiencies and comfort. That’s why we’ve doubled the size of our facilities – to provide spacious common areas and private treatment rooms that are more comfortable and large enough for your loved ones to stay right by your side. We’ve even made design considerations that address the special needs of seniors and patients with unique behavioral health needs, in order to

provide easier access and private waiting areas.

New Approaches to Treatment Get You Back to Your Life Faster We’re always making new efforts to improve the way we treat our patients, in order to ensure that we’re providing the best care possible in a manner that’s respectful of your busy life. With the addition of rapid exam rooms, we can minimize wait times and treat minor emergencies, non-lifethreatening illnesses and simple injuries efficiently. So when something unexpected happens to someone in your family, you can have confidence knowing that we will address it swiftly and skillfully, and we can get you back home as quickly as possible. Don’t Find Us by Accident

Add “in case of emergency” (ICE) entries to your cell phone address book with the numbers of local EMS providers, your two most important emergency contacts, and directions to the new Emergency & Trauma Center.
