or more than a century, AT&T has consistently provided innovative, reliable, high-quality products and excellent customer care. AT&T’s mission continues to be to connect people with their world everywhere they live and work, and to do it better than anyone else. AT&T is fulfilling this vision by creating new solutions for consumers and businesses and by driving innovation in the communications and entertainment industry. Despite having a global profile, AT&T still prides itself on working at the regional and local levels to give customers the best service possible, as evidenced by winning the 2012 Readers’ Choice for “Best Wireless Provider.” “It is an honor to be recognized by The Bryan/College Station Eagle’s readers in the 2012 Readers Choice poll,” said Dahna Hull, Vice President/ General Manager of AT&T’s South Texas Region. Great customer service is the cornerstone of AT&T, and AT&T is passionate about providing a superior customer experience. It’s a vital part of everything AT&T does—from keeping consumers connected with the latest technology to delivering the best value. As AT&T continues to break new ground and deliver new solutions, they are focused on delivering the high-quality customer service that is their heritage. AT&T’s goal is to provide thoughtful, caring, and prompt attention to customers’ needs. Earlier this year, AT&T introduced its 4G LTE network in Bryan-College Station, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network

technology and faster mobile internet speeds. The launch of the 4G LTE network in Bryan-College Station, brings Bryan-College Station customers with faster speeds, cool new devices, and faster data response times. AT&T customers have access to the nation’s largest 4G network, covering nearly 250 million people. AT&T’s 4G network serves millions of customers enabling them to travel and communicate seamlessly with the best worldwide wireless coverage. AT&T offers voice coverage in more than 220 countries, data roaming in more than 200 countries and mobile broadband in more than 130 countries. Additionally, AT&T offers Bryan-College Station customers industry-leading and industry-changing devices, from the first waterproof tablet from AT&T, the Pantech Element, to the Samsung Galaxy Note Smartphone, with the features of a Smartphone and the larger viewing screen of a tablet, to one of the first 4G LTE Windows Phones in the world – the Nokia Lumia 900. AT&T was the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer iPhone and offer a broader iPhone lineup than

competitors. But AT&T’s offerings do not stop at Smartphones and tablets; AT&T also offers customers the accessories they most want. For example AT&T launched the Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ Beatbox Portable high performance wireless audio system that is exclusive from AT&T, earlier this spring. Beats by Dr. Dre offers rich, full sounds with professional-grade sound engineering to play the music how the artist intended with a distortion-free sound at higher volume and real bass at all levels. AT&T has made a real commitment to bettering their customers’ wireless experience. They are investing big bucks to prove it as evidenced by the $6.3 billion AT&T most recently invested in its Texas wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011 with a focus on improving the company’s mobile broadband coverage and overall performance of its networks. Have a question or looking for more information about AT&T’s products and services? Need assistance with your current AT&T service? ith more than 30,000 shops wo rl dw i d e, Subway is one of the most recognizable sandwich brands around, and that’s the case in Bryan/College Station as the home of the $5 Footlong took the “Best Sub” category in the 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. Subway sandwiches began in 1965 when Fred DeLuca and Dr. Peter Buck partnered to

open Pete’s Super Submarines in Bridgeport, Conn. Eight years later, they ran 16 stores throughout Connecticut. In 1974, DeLuca and Buck started franchising Subway shops. College Station was an important part of Subway’s nationwide expansion. The first Subway in Texas was on Southwest Parkway. Now there are 15 Subways in the Bryan/College Station area and hundreds across the state.

Subway enjoyed a fresh popularity boom in the late 1990s thanks to Jared Fogle. Fogle, then a student at the University of Indiana, weighed 425 pounds and was frustrated after trying numerous diets with no success. He picked up a nutritional guide during a visit to a Subway and developed his own diet. Every day he would eat a six-inch turkey sub for lunch and a footlong veggie delight for supper. He also started walking to his classes instead of taking the bus. He lost an astounding 245 pounds on his Subway diet and quickly became the face of Subway’s line of healthy selections. Subway sandwiches are known for their freshly baked bread, quality meats and fresh vegetables. Customers can choose the toppings they want on their sandwich with more than 2 million possible combinations. For those watching their weight, Subway offers eight sandwiches with six grams or less of fat. The six-inch versions of the ham, oven roasted chicken breast, roast beef, Subway club, sweet onion chicken teriyaki, turkey breast, turkey breast & ham and veggie delite all offer big taste with less than 400 calories and six grams of fat.

Subway has also expanded its offerings to include breakfast. Now customers can start their day with breakfast sandwiches, which can be served on muffins, flatbread or Subway’s popular artisan breads. Even though they are no strangers to accolades, the people at Subway know that no business can thrive as they have without the support of

loyal customers. Getting this recognition is very important to us,” said Scott Haynes of Centex Subway. Our number one goal is to make sure people enjoy eating at Subway, so it is very fulfilling to have the public vote for us like they have. Stop by any of the BryanCollege Station Subway locations and enjoy the best subs in town.

on the patient for the first time, patients find it greatly reassuring that their anesthesiologist knows their particular physiology, has a history with them, and will care for them in the operating room. J.B. Dott, with BCS Physicians Anesthesia Services, has been a leader in providing this type of individualized approach to anesthesia care since 1983 in Bryan/College Station. For the past 29 years, many patients have come to consider him a permanent member of their healthcare team along with their primary care physician. Besides an easygoing manner, Dr. Dott is known for taking the time to do pre-surgery consultations and post-surgery follow-ups with all of his patients and provides only physicianadministered anesthesia. It is this depth of caring and confidence of knowing that Dr. Dott is there for them that has made many fans of Dr. Dott’s style of personalized medicine. And in a reversal of traditional roles of years past, patients are just as likely to call Dr. Dott about his recommendations for surgeons for needed procedures as they are to ask

their primary care physician. For elective procedures, informed patients have even been known to book Dr. Dott far in advance to guarantee his availability before scheduling their surgery. Competent, personalized, one-to-one, accessible health care has become Dr. Dott’s hallmark. Healthy, grateful patients have been his reward. Congratulations to Dr. Dott for his sixth win of The Eagle Readers’ Choice Award. Dr. Dott can be reached at 693-7167.

ou have a choice. Many patients are completely unaware that they have a choice in selecting their anesthesiologist. This primarily comes from a misunderstanding that the anesthesiologist is ‘assigned’ to your case or is included ‘automatically’ with the surgery team. While this may be the perception, it is not a fact. The trend across the U.S. is for more and more patients to put as much thought and effort into choosing their anesthesiologist as they put into picking the surgeon performing their procedure. There is good precedence for this effort considering the anesthesiologist’s important role in producing good surgical outcomes. Today, it is not uncommon once a patient has found an anesthesiologist that they are comfortable with, to stick with them throughout the many different types of surgeries they may have over the course of several years. The reason for this shift is simple; the patient’s anesthesiologist of choice is the one consistent physician from one procedure to the next. Since each surgery or procedure usually requires a different primary surgeon working

iramont Country Club in Bryan was voted this year’s Readers’ Choice for “Best Golf Course,” and Stephanie Malechek, Vice President of The Adam Corporation/Group, believes that’s because of dedication. Miramont Country Club is a fullservice, private country club that provides world-class amenities and services to members and their guests. It specializes in creating a “home away from home” for members that is “centered on the family and the many social aspects of the community and personal relationships,” Malechek said. Miramont offers several dining options, an expansive family swim facility, a complete sports program

offering golf, tennis, and fitness, and a wide variety of member events throughout the year. “In addition to having one of the Top Ten Golf Courses in the State of Texas (according to Golf Digest) as well as the No. 1 rated Private Country Club in the Houston Area (according to Avid Golfer), I feel that Miramont won the Readers’ Choice Award as a result of our dedication to the Bryan/College Station community and our members” Malechek said. “Miramont has a very dedicated staff. The Golf and Grounds team, led by Jon Snider, Director of Golf and Grounds and Riley Maxey, Golf Course Superintendent, spend countless hours maintaining the course to keep it in pristine condition.

The Golf Department, which includes Brad Lardon, Director of Golf, Mark Greer, Head Golf Professional and Clay Wonnell, Assistant Golf Professional and their team provide exceptional service and instruction for our members and their guests.” The 22 holes of Miramont’s Robert Trent Jones, Jr. championship golf course opened in 2004, and the Clubhouse opened in 2005. Miramont is privately owned and came about by the vision of founder and owner Donald Adam. Malechek said Miramont’s main inspiration to be successful is the staff’s desire to become one of the most premier country clubs in the world. That vision requires dedication

to family and community, a drive to never settle for “good” and a constant seeking of opportunities to create “great” memories and experiences for members and their guests, she said. Miramont continues to add new members each year, as well as new amenities and services, including massage therapy, online mobile food ordering, and a “family course” section of its golf course. It also recently initiated a club-wide recycling program. “Miramont is proud to belong to the strong sense of tradition, pride and community in Bryan/College Station,” Malechek said. “Winning the Readers’ Choice Award is an honor we are grateful to have and be a part of.”

t’s easy to take our feet for granted, but when something is wrong we see just how important they are. When you have foot problems, you want someone who can get you back up and moving around as safely and quickly as possible. For doing just that, The Eagle’s readers have named Dr. Brian Abbey “Best Podiatrist” in the 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. “It’s certainly an honor for both me and Brazos Valley Foot Care,” Abbey said. “It’s nice to be held in good light with the patients. We’re very grateful for the support we get from the community.” While it is Abbey’s name on the award, he is quick to share the honor with the entire Brazos Valley Foot Care team. From the office staff to the nurses to his fellow podiatrists, Abbey credits the quality of his coworkers with his success in the Readers’ Choice Awards. Abbey is the senior doctor at Brazos Valley Foot Care and sets the tone for the clinic’s

level of service. He is joined by Eduardo Orihuela (Aggie Class of ’95), Robert Aguilar, Julie Albert (Aggie Class of ’99) and Tyler Kearney (Aggie Class of ’04). Together these doctors cover a service area that includes offices in Bryan, College Station and Brenham, as well as regular visits to facilities in Madisonville, Caldwell and Navasota. Bill Glaze, Brazos Valley Foot Care practice administrator, said one of the things the doctors at Brazos Valley Foot Care have in common is their approach to treating foot problems. “Our doctors practice very conservative care with our patients,” Glaze said. “They do whatever they can do nonsurgically to make the patient functional and comfortable, and only turn to surgery once the more conservative options have been exhausted.” Beyond the medical part of the care, what endears Brazos Valley Foot Care to its patients is the way they are

treated by the staff. Glaze said patients can always expect smiles from everyone in the building as they come in for their appointments. Brazos Valley Foot Care began over 30 years ago years ago as a single doctor practice. Dr. Abbey joined the practice in 1999. It has grown along with the community and branched out to the surrounding communities. Partnerships with area nursing homes and a growing network of doctors who confidently make patient referrals has aided that growth and the clinic has plans in the work to move into a larger facility in the future. Glaze said that while growing the practice has always been important, an emphasis has been placed on responsible growth. “We have a philosophy of growth as this community needs growth,” Glaze said. “When we grow, it’s because our patients need us to, not because we just want to be

Dr. Bryan Abbey

bigger.” As they do expand now, they do so knowing their patients and the public are supporting them along the way. Dr. Abbey

and the entire staff at Brazos Valley Foot Care are excited and thankful for that support in the form of their Readers’ Choice Award this year.

or the sixth year in a row, Dr. Malcolm Rude is the Readers’ Choice for the area’s “Best Plastic Surgeon.” Rude, Aggie class of ’93, opened his private practice in 2004 after serving his residency under the former president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Rude specializes in breast surgeries, including augmentations, lifts and reductions, but his extensive training also allows him to diagnose and treat a variety of disorders in all areas of plastic surgery. Other common procedures Rude performs include tummy tucks, liposuction, facial rejuvenation, lasers, Botox and Radiesse. In opening his own practice, Rude was able to fulfill his dream of giving women in the Bryan/College Station access to the best procedures modern plastic surgery had to offer. “I wanted to provide stateof-the-art plastic surgery to the Brazos Valley,” Rude said.

“It is very important to have a board-certified plastic surgeon doing your surgery. Plastic surgery is wonderful and the results are very gratifying, but safety should always be at the forefront. I feel that plastic surgery procedures should be performed in hospitals or accredited surgical facilities by doctors that have hospital privileges to do those procedures.” Dr. Rude’s practice is dedicated to offering personalized care while striving to make the experience of each patient unique. Personalized care includes making a specific plan to address a patient’s cosmetic and/or reconstructive goals. His recommendations and advice are the result of professional judgment and experience. Part of what makes Rude so popular with his clients is his understanding that beauty is intensely personal. He stays current with recent advancements and technologies, allowing him

to stay on the cutting edge of cosmetic surgery. He also meets extensively with patients prior to any surgery, treatment or therapy. Rude uses these meetings to educate patients and discuss all available options to ensure the patient is making an informed decision. Dr. Rude and his staff are very grateful to have won their sixth-straight Readers’ Choice award.

“Thank you, Brazos Valley, for the greatest compliment of choosing us as the best plastic surgeon. We are committed to ensuring that each patient

will receive quality care as well as have total confidence in our superior service, which caters to each patient’s individualized needs.”

While some companies will quote a price over the phone, Merry Maids feel it’s important to view the home and consult with the owner about their specific cleaning needs. It is also important that they understand our cleaning process. Rather than quote an hourly rate, where you may or may not be able to complete the cleaning, Merry Maids believe it is more advantageous to the customer to quote a fixed price for the job. Thirteen years later, they are still helping customers and are the 2012 Readers’ Choice for “Best Housekeeping.” Merry Maids, the nation’s largest professional residential cleaning service, has been servicing the cleaning needs of the Brazos Valley since 1999 when Josie and David King opened the local business. “We considered several different industries, but settled on the cleaning industry and particularly Merry Maids after visiting their Memphis headquarters and visiting several offices throughout Texas,” David said. “We had a little bit of a shaky start, but we won

They appreciate and thank their loyal customers and the readers for taking the time to recognize us in this manner and we will strive to live up to this award. “It’s great to get positive feedback from customers in the service business because it says you are heading in the right direction,” David said. “However, positive feedback can turn negative just as quick if you don’t focus on pleasing every customer. t’s late Saturday afternoon and your daughter complains of a sore throat. You begin to wonder if it’s just a cold or a strep throat. You begin to realize you may need to separate her from your little all-star because he can’t miss that baseball game next week. It’s not a full-blown emergency, but you do need to see a doctor today - and soon. Thankfully, a St. Joseph Express location is just down the road and you don’t need an appointment! All over the Brazos Valley, an Express is just minutes away. Staffed with board-certified physicians, St. Joseph Express is open after hours, on weekends and holidays. Express is your answer when illness suddenly comes knocking. Along with St. Joseph’s ERs, St. Joseph Express was voted Readers’ Choice winner for “Best Urgent Care/Emergency Facility” for the fourth year in a row. “The St. Joseph Difference is all about providing patients

quality healthcare in the most convenient way. With so many locations to choose from for immediate medical care, be it an Express Walk-In Clinic or an Emergency Room, we offer patients access from all across the Brazos Valley,” said Kathy Krusie, CEO, St. Joseph Regional Health Center. “The experience we want to provide our patients is one that exceeds their expectations and we strive to do that. So being recognized as a Readers’ Choice winner is an honor for all of us at St. Joseph.” When true medical emergencies arise, you can have confidence in St. Joseph’s Level III trauma-designated Emergency Center in Bryan, the first in the Brazos Valley to be named an accredited chest pain center and the only certified primary stroke center in the area. Currently, St. Joseph is working to achieve a Level II Trauma designation. The hospital continues to work to meet the requirements, including the recruitment

of more physicians with trauma surgery expertise and anticipates a final Level II designation early next year. St. Joseph will become the only Level II Trauma center between Temple, Austin and Houston. Our freestanding 24-hour Emergency Center in South College Station, next to St. Joseph Express, offers an ambulance bay, helipad, full diagnostic services, short wait times and exceptional customer service. It is no wonder St. Joseph’s College Station ER is a part of the Readers’ Choice Award. You can find a St. Joseph Express on Villa Maria just down the road from Blinn, in Bryan or by the new Lowe’s in South College Station near the William D. Fitch exit of Highway 6. You can also go to our two brand new locations in Brenham on Highway 290 across from The Home Depot or in Hearne on Market Street. All of our locations are opened from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday

BEST Asian/ Oriental Food, Take-Out Dining & Food Delivery

T

here are plenty of places to eat in Bryan/ College Station, but T. Jin’s China Diner is hands down one of the local favorites after winning the 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards for “Best Asian Food,” “Best Take-Out Dining” and “Best Food Delivery” for the second consecutive year. T. Jin’s has been serving

Bryan/College Station for seven years. Popular dishes like their General’s Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken have been keeping customers happy and coming back for more at both the original T. Jin’s location in Kroger Shopping Center on Longmire Drive in College Station and The Boonville Kroger Shopping Center in Bryan.

Owner Shin Jin said the second T. Jin’s location came about by popular demand. “We had a lot of people coming from Bryan to eat here and they always asked why we didn’t have another restaurant closer to them,” he said. “We opened a restaurant in Bryan and it has done very well. Sometimes people eat here when they visit town and say we should open a restaurant there, but that’s too far away for us.” T. Jin’s offers a large menu with something for almost any taste. Their lunch menu has some of their most popular dishes like the General’s Chicken, Kung Pao Three Delights and China Town Stir Fry. The lunch specials range from $5.25 to $6.50, making T.

Jin’s a popular lunch spot as well. Jin said customers trust T. Jin’s because they know the restaurant uses the best quality ingredients, such as only using white meat chicken, and enforce strict quality control on their dishes. Whether dining in, taking out or calling in for delivery, T. Jin’s menu is one of the best in town. Their house specials have been a big hit since the restaurant first opened. New dishes like the Seafood Deluxe and Shrimp with Pepper and Salt join old favorites like Orange Beef, Happy Family, Thai Chicken & Shrimp and the Lamb with Sar Char Sauce. The menu also includes eight soups, including egg drop

and wonton; seven appetizers, including their popular shrimp rolls and pot stickers; rice and noodle dishes and a kid-sized offerings of Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Lo Mein. Winning these Readers’ Choice Awards this year has been a source pride for the T. Jin’s staff. Jin said whether it is winning an award or just seeing a customer leave happy, it is great to serve people in this community. “When someone comes in and tries our food, they almost always come back,” Jin said. “We appreciate our customers and we’re happy that they like our food. We do our best to make sure that everyone who eats here leaves happy.”

care.” Dr. Bohne, Aggie Class of ’72, set up practice in Bryan/College Station in 1981 where he started earning his reputation as a quality, caring surgeon. He said he knew he wanted to come back to Aggieland after finishing medical school. “I was born and grew up in this part of the state,” Dr. Bohne said. “The community reflects the values that I believe in.” Dr. Bohne said one of the biggest challenges in general surgery is having to make on the spot decisions in life or death circumstances. The challenge of having to make those choices and being able to completely change the course of treatment makes the job challenging, but also very rewarding. But things do not always turn out well in surgery and Dr. Bohne knows that how he responds to those situations makes every bit as much a difference to his reputation as when everything goes as planned. “We are often in situations where what we do may save a patient’s life in an acute situation,” Dr. Bohne said. “When we are successful, there is no better feeling. Unfortunately, we also get into situations where the outcomes are bad. The feelings of ëbeing Dr. Henry “Hank” Bohne human’ and knowing how out of control things can College Station Surgical Associates get sometimes, helps us empathize with patients 1602 Rock Prairie Rd. rust is a key part of any professional practice, but maybe none more than in the surgical field. Having a surgeon you can trust helps not just the patient, but the patient’s family and friends as well. Forging trusting relationships with his patients has helped Dr. Hank Bohne, MD, win the 2012 Readers’ Choice Award for “Best General Surgeon.” This is the fifth year in a row that Dr. Bohne has won, something that surprised him. “This is very humbling because I don’t think that I do anything different than any of the other surgeons,” Dr. Bohne said. “There are guys who are probably technically much better than I am, or maybe perform a wider range of procedures. If anything, I credit the gals here in my office. We try to go overboard to treat people well, see them on time and to go the extra mile to help them with other specialists and those are the ladies who make that happen.” Dr. Bohne and his staff strive to always make sure the patient comes first in everything they do. He never wants a patient to regret choosing him and makes sure they know that everything he and his staff does is done with their individual needs in mind. “We have a long history of concerned, compassionate caring for our patients,” Dr. Bohne said. “Although our community has grown and changed over the years, we strive to be stable, traditional and always put the patient first. A patient should always know that our highest priority is to meet his or her individual needs in every aspect of

and bad, Dr. Bohne has repeatedly shown that he is there for his patients. Receiving recognition from the community through the Readers’ Choice Award is something Dr. Bohne takes to heart. “Thank you all for your trust,” Dr. Bohne said. “I am humbled by your choice and will continue to do the best I can to provide for your needs.”

Congratulations to Dr. Henry “Hank” Bohne for being voted Best General Surgeon five years in a row.

iningCustomers of Ozona Grill & Bar in College Station associate the restaurant with the relaxed patio atmosphere. So do The Eagle’s readers, as the local hot spot won the Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Outdoor/Patio Dining.” The College Station Ozona is the second location for the popular restaurant. The original Ozona opened in 1992 near SMU in Dallas. Named after a famous West Texas

town, the menu at Ozona Grill & Bar was inspired by traditional Texas and border cuisine. The Dallas Ozona’s trademark was its patio dining areas, often regarded as the biggest and shadiest in the city. In 2003, Ozona expanded to College Station, bringing that same outdoor experience to Aggieland. “Ozona provides a unique dining atmosphere to the B/ CS area,” said Brian Morris, General Manager of Ozona.

“We believe we have the largest, shadiest and most natural patio environment in town. We try to combine that with a casual and fun atmosphere that can be enjoyed while watching sports, listening to live music or simply relaxing over brunch, lunch or dinner.” With the relaxed patio atmosphere and variety of happy hour specials like “Working Women’s Wednesday,” it’s not hard to

see why Ozona Grill & Bar is a popular place to find people unwinding at the end of a tough day. “We enjoy seeing our guests smiling and enjoying themselves when they are dining with us, and seeing them leaving happy and ready to come back again.” Morris said. Ozona is pleased to add “Best Outdoor/Patio Dining” to their list of accomplishments the past two years.

“We are honored to be recognized by our guests in this way,” Morris said of Ozona’s Readers’ Choice win. “We are proud of the service we provide, and are so appreciative of our customers. Thanks to everyone that thought of us!” So stop by Ozona Grill & Bar at 520 Harvey Road and kick back with your friends and a big plate of nachos and enjoy the best happy hour on the best patio in town.

obley Pool Company in Bryan has been in business since 1972, and again has won the “Best Pool/ Spa Store” award. Owner Gary Mobley said he believes superior construction and an honest, “from my family to yours” approach is what sets Mobley Pool Company apart and is why it won the award several times. Mobley Pool Company, 2004 East Villa Maria Road, provides swimming pool and spa retail supplies, construction and maintenance service. The company designs and builds swimming pools that integrate with their natural surroundings. The “extraordinary craftsmanship” was handed down from founder John Mobley to his son, Gary Mobley, according to the company’s website. “We at Mobley Pool Company have built our reputation on fine design, craftsmanship and our commitment to give our customers the very best,” the company states. “Your complete satisfaction is our top priority. We work with you every step of the way, including working with your landscaper or homebuilder to create a unique outdoor environment. Mobley Pool Company stands behind every pool we build to ensure total customer satisfaction.” Gary said he was honored that the company was chosen for the award. “I am honored and blessed to have such great customers and employees in the greatest state and county I know,” Mobley said. “Thank you seems like a simple term, but best expresses my gratitude. I have always tried to do my best to offer the best quality product with an honest approach. Forty years in the swimming pool business sounds like a lot, but I hope

The confidence his patients have in him is partly from his loyalty to the Brazos Valley. As a life-long Texan, and member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie class of 1984, Dr. Veazey attended medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. He finished his residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, as the chief resident of orthopedic surgery. “Helping patients who suffer with joint pain get back on their feet and active again takes tremendous teamwork,” said Dr. Veazey. “I’m fortunate to work with an incredible office staff, and exceptional operating room team and the dedicated nurses, therapists and volunteers at St. Joseph Joint University.”

Dr. Veazey performs a wide range of surgeries including knee, shoulder and hip replacements. He is part of the St. Joseph Orthopedic services team named

#1 in the state for 2011 and 2012 by HealthGrades.

tkinson Toyota was voted the 2012 “Best Auto Repair Shop,” “Best Oil Change,” “Best Auto Part Store,” “Best Auto Dealership” and “Best Auto Salesperson” for Don Lemon, and Paul Atkinson, dealer and general manager for Atkinson attributed winning such accolades year after year to three things: people, processes and product. “It’s not about me,” Atkinson said. “We have the best people. They’re caring.” Atkinson associates compose the dealership’s processes based on how customers would like them improved, and Toyota is a great product because of quality, dependability and reliability, he said. “It speaks volumes about our people and our processes,” he said about the dealership winning the 2012 Readers’ Choice awards. “It’s always humbling when your people vote you the best.” The dealership has also won the “President’s Award” -awarded by Toyota to the top 1

percent of Toyota dealerships in the United States – 12 consecutive years. It has also won Readers’ Choice and the Best of the Brazos Valley awards numerous times. “So we must be doing something right,” Atkinson said. Consumer confidence in the Toyota brand and in the automobile industry has picked up; 2012 will be a good year for the vehicle industry overall and 2013 will be even better, Atkinson said. That’s because of a “huge, pent-up demand for a wide variety of reasons,” he said. People were putting off buying vehicles because of a weak economy and a lack of confidence in the political arena and economy, and also because all manufacturers are building better vehicles that last longer, Atkinson said. The average car on American roads is 11.4 years old, he said. The increasing consumer confidence has been evident locally at Atkinson Toyota. “Our last four months have

been phenomenal,” he said, adding that Atkinson has been growing its stocking level of vehicles as well as its staff number. The Toyota brand is the leading manufacturer for miles per gallon, is safer than ever, and also has the hybrid Prius, he said. Atkinson said he had the opportunity to visit Japan, and learned why it’s an ideal place for manufacturing the “very best product.” Japanese use a term, “kaizan” that means continuous improvement. “They’re not about being the best. They’re about improving every single day,” he said. “That’s what sets them apart.” One exciting addition over the past month to Atkinson

Toyota was the Scion FRS sports car, he said, and the dealership has also gotten in “a lot of new models with a lot of new changes.” Atkinson Toyota has also held the “Repo Joe” sales event for the last 11 years. The monthly used car sale has become a big event with car shoppers and helps create new Atkinson customers each time. Atkinson said he has learned what it takes to have a successful business over the years. “Hire the best people you absolutely can, be very clear on their goals and objectives, give them the tools they need to reach those goals and objectives and get out of their way,” he said, noting that the latter was the hardest part for him to learn. “Let them do their job.” Perhaps hiring the best people is why Don Lemon was recognized as “Best Auto Salesperson.” “I am on my 13th year with Atkinson Toyota and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Lemon said. “I enjoy this community, the customers and the product we offer here at Atkinson Toyota.” Atkinson Toyota also reaches out to its customers with “cutting-edge social media,” Atkinson said.

Director of Social Media Cortney Tenhet said when she was hired two years ago, she began with creating Facebook and Twitter accounts for the dealership and since then has added six more social media platforms. “We think of it as a way to get our personality across, to let you know who we are and what we’re doing here at Atkinson Toyota and Toyota as a whole, as well as publicize community events that we are involved with and care about,” Tenhet said. “We’re always thinking about the future and that may lead to more channels and opportunities.” Tenhet recently returned from Italy where she shared her social media expertise as a member of the Rotary International Group Study Exchange, a month-long cultural and educational exchange where five women of different professions traveled on behalf of Rotary District 5910. Tenhet shared how Atkinson Toyota uses social media as a marketing tool. “I think it’s a way customers have that much more access to the dealership,” Tenhet said. he Youthful Look of Facelift Dentures “I’d rather live with bad teeth than a good denture,” is a sentiment that Dr. Michael Reece and his team hear expressed repeatedly. People, often living in pain, call his office hoping they have any other option to wearing conventional dentures. In the recent past, the answer would have been a disappointing no, but today there are dramatic (some would say incredible) results available through Facelift Dentures. These dentures, designed by Dr. Reece, are uniquely remarkable in the quality of their artistic craftsmanship and the painstaking and innovative way they are secured. Facelift Dentures are so real and lifelike they are virtually impossible for an onlooker to identify as dentures, even in the closest and most intimate of proximities. The teeth quite simply look completely natural in shape, color, and texture. Most importantly, they fill out your face to avoid the dreaded sunken-in look afflicting most denture wearers. This natural, youthful look is why people are seeking out Dr. Reece. Since bone immediately begins to

deteriorate when teeth die or are lost, the face begins to take on a decidedly sunken look as the jaw line recesses farther and farther, creating the look most identify with denture wearers. To offset this bone loss, Dr. Reece learned to craft dentures that bring back the original fullness of the lip while sculpting attractive and strong chin and jaw lines, creating a facelift effect without surgery. In many cases, bone loss can actually be stopped by using the latest titanium implant technology that literally locks your dentures in place, providing the closest sensation to natural teeth ever developed for denture wearers. Why do so many choose Dr. Reece? He is passionate about dentistry. You may never meet somebody that devotes more of himself to advanced dental education. On any given weekend, Dr. Reece is likely to be attending a seminar to learn a new technique or consulting with other leading dentists in the U.S. As such, his skills remain sharp, his technique cutting edge, and his patients consistently happy with their results. For many patients however, it’s about more than just skill. It’s about the office experience itself and that

is where the team Dr. Reece has assembled really shines. As you may expect, an exceptional dentist attracts an exceptionally talented team. Patients are instantly put at ease from the very first phone call. The office visit is comfortable, professional, and

filled with the promise of a new smile and the life and opportunities that a confident smile can bring. To learn all about Facelift Dentures simply go to DrReece.com or call 979.846.6515.

In 1997 Forsyth and his family moved from California, relocating in Abilene, Texas. For two years he directed physical therapy services at West Texas Rehabilitation. Looking for an opportunity to re-enter the private practice arena, they performed a thorough search of Texas cities. After much thought and prayer Bruce and Diane decided on the Brazos Valley and have never looked back. Living in Bryan/College Station has been a great blessing for Bruce, Diane and their five children. “Bryan/College Station has been the perfect place for us,” he said. “We thank the Lord every morning for having the good fortune of living here in the Brazos Valley.” Advance Therapy first opened its doors in 1999 with little more than a desire to find a home and create a successful physical therapy practice. In fact, for the first six months Bruce commuted from Abilene during the week,

while Diane and the children were busy trying to sell their home. During that period Bruce slept on the floor of the office space he rented until the Abilene home was sold and he was able to bring the family down. “It wasn’t easy but nothing that’s worthwhile in life is,” said Forsyth. “The Lord had a plan for us and we wouldn’t be where we are today without him.” Since then they have experienced uncommon growth as a result of consistent physician support and patient satisfaction. In an effort to more fully serve the community, Advance Therapy expanded their practice to include aquatic therapy and a Wellness Center in July of 2004. With this addition Advance Therapy is now a state-of-theart, 9,000-square-foot Aquatic and Wellness Center. This center can facilitate patient and physician demand to more completely satisfy the needs of those who enter its doors

Being recognized by the community for achieving excellence in our field is an honor that we will cherish. All the staff at Advance Therapy would like to thank our friends, patients and gym members for this special recognition.” Forsyth is a graduate of the University of Utah, class of 1987. For two years he worked at Medford Sports Injury and Therapy Center, working with a wide cross section of orthopedic injuries. From 1989 until 1997, he directed the care of patients at San Luis Sports Therapy Center. Treating a wide variety of orthopedic conditions in beautiful San Luis Obispo, he said he also had the privilege to work with members of the United States Olympic track and field team training for the Atlanta Games.

history of the restaurant stretches much farther back. The Rodriguez family-cooking legacy dates back to 1898 when a young man from Zacatecas, Mexico named Manuel Rodriguez came to Bryan to work the railroads. Manuel took the money he earned on the railroads and opened a Mexican restaurant behind the Ben Knox Saloon, near the railroad depot in downtown Bryan. He served homemade Mexican stew and other dishes that became very popular with both locals and travelers. Among those dishes was the chili recipe that is still served today at Casa Rodriguez. Many of those recipes were passed down to Paul and Chelo Rodriguez, who passed them down to Richard and Beatrice, who in turn passed them down to Debbie and her daughters Lauren and Jamie. It is those cherished family recipes that set Casa Rodriguez apart from other restaurants in the area and have sent many a customer

running to Downtown Bryan to get their “Casa Rod fix.” “Popular dishes like El Mobley, fried taquitos, fried avocado and, of course, the El Memo Enchiladas,” Montalbano said. “Weekends we have homemade Caldo (soup) until it’s all gone.” In 2012, it renovated and put in a full bar, so it could serve mimosas, sangria, CasaRitas and Memo Punch. Casa Rodriguez also recently opened Casa Rodriguez Express at 448 Southwest Parkway in College Station, where customers can dine in or pick up their orders at the drive-thru window. hen shopping for furniture, most people are looking for three things: quality, price and customer service. Striking the right balance of all three can separate a store from the competition and that is exactly why Ashley Furniture HomeStore is the 2012 Readers’ Choice for Best Furniture Store. Shoppers to the Ashley Furniture HomeStore on Highway 6 in College Station are able to browse the best that Ashley has to offer in an atmosphere designed to highlight and accent the furniture and mattresses themselves. The signature Ashley waterfall greets customers as they walk in, and the showroom is sectioned off to create individual showpiece room setups complete with wall decor and furniture accessories. This presentation method not only shows off the furniture, but gives buyers a preview of how the pieces

work together in a room setting. The newly designed showroom allows the customer to walk freely and look into the room settings as it would look in your home. Other stores simply don’t offer you a look like the eye appealing displays at Ashley Furniture HomeStore. This innovative “look” combined with quality customer service is what has made Ashley Furniture HomeStore so popular with the community. Storeowner Mark Wilks said the company takes great pride in how his employees interact with shoppers. He stresses to them that great customer service is the first priority, with the furniture itself being the second.

down to is who are you comfortable buying it from? Who is going to give you the best value? Who is going to give the best service after the sale? Everyone is going to say they have the best service, but until you prove it, it doesnít mean anything. Wilks said he is proud that his store has earned the communityís business and trust. Winning consecutive Readers’ Choice Awards (AFHS won in 2010 and 2011) is further indication that

Ashley Furniture HomeStore continues to be appreciated by the community both in sales and customer satisfaction in Bryan/College Station. “We just want to say thank you to all our customers who voted for us for their support and giving us a vote of confidence,” Wilks said. “This store is locally owned and operated. We live here and we spend our money locally, so it’s great to have the community respond back to us like this.”

“The communication we have with customers is what sets us apart,” Wilks said. “We do follow-up calls with customers after a sale and when we do something wrong, we make sure that we go back and make it right the second time. People like to be taken care of, so we’re always trying to do a great job of that. He also adds “We are always answering any and every question a customer has so we do things the way they want it done to their liking!” The Wilks family owns three Ashley Furniture HomeStore locations. They opened their first one in Lufkin in 2005. The College Station store opened in 2007, with a store in Waco opening shortly thereafter. Each store has won awards in its community for service and quality. Wilks said each award serves as proof that their customer service philosophy works. spiritually, socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually.” The childcare center began in January 2001 as a Mother’s Day Out program, with the goal of providing a safe and loving Catholic environment in a quality preschool setting, Smith said. In 2006 St. Thomas expanded from a part-day Mother’s Day Out program to a full-day daycare center. St. Thomas also won the Readers’ Choice award in 2009 and 2010, and Smith said she believes The Eagle readers voted for St. Thomas because parents trust the staff. “Our parents trust us and know that the best interest of the child is always a priority,” she said. “We encourage our families to communicate openly with us about their children.” Smith said Jesus’ love for children

and their welfare is what inspires the staff in all that they do at the center. “His teachings are the source for our commitment to always consider the needs of the children above all other things,” she said.

BEST Barbecue

T

he owners and staff at C&J Barbeque are celebrating following their 13th Readers’ Choice Award for Best Barbecue. C&J Barbecue opened 32 years ago as a convenience store on Harvey Road. In 1997, the store was converted to a full-time barbecue restaurant, the first of three locations. Owners Chip and Jo Manning opened the Bryan location at 1010 Texas Avenue in 2002. Two years later they opened their third location at 105 Southwest Parkway in College Station. “It’s very exciting to have won again,” Jo said. “It’s especially awesome considering we only made the conversion to a restaurant 15 years ago.” Jo credits many factors to C&J’s success, but the most important thing is the employees. All of C&J’s managers have been there for at least 10 years and they all trained in the same place. “One of the biggest compliments we get is that the food is consistent from location to location and the managers are why that is,” Jo said. “They make sure the food tastes right. “We’re very proud of our staff for doing such a great job. We feel like the employees are part of our family.

They’re like our kids. I think they appreciate that and it shows.” The employees aren’t the only ones that are like family to the Mannings. C&J has built a loyal customer base over the years and they are also treated like family when they walk through the doors. “We have very loyal customers,” Jo said. “We see some of them three or four times a week. We know just what they want before they even get to the counter. We’re so fortunate and grateful that people like us so much.” Many of the customers have their favorite locations, even though the food is the same in all three stores. The reason for that is the approach the Mannings took to each location. “All three locations are different,” Jo said. “The one in Bryan has a rustic feel with a lot of wood and old-style decorations. The one on Southwest was designed more like a sports bar. There’s a lot of glass and it’s a different feel. The one on Harvey is the original and even though it’s been renovated, it still reminds people of the way it used to be.” Regardless of which location they go to, C&J’s customers can always depend on that tasty barbecue that has captured the hearts and stomachs

of the Brazos Valley. All of the meats are slow-cooked twice a day for lunch and supper and the mouth-watering briskets are done up low and slow once a day. From chicken to ribs to sausage to brisket, customers are sure to get a satisfying meal. “The thing I think people like about coming here is you see what you’re

getting instead of ordering off a menu,” Jo said. “I think we offer a good value and people can just be comfortable as they enjoy their meal.” So whether you’re out for a quick lunch or a relaxing dinner, stop by C&J Barbeque and try what so many people in the Bryan/College Station area have been calling the best barbeque around.

he Theatre Company Celebrates By Randy Wilson, artistic director What a great honor The Eagle’s readers have bestowed on The Theatre Company of Bryan/College Station! And at such an opportune time! We are in the midst of preparations for our 25th Season Celebration. Season 2012-2013 marks our 25th year of bringing the Brazos Valley the best musical theatre experience possible. None of this would be possible without the support of our thousands of volunteers, artists, underwriters and audiences. Financial support from the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley is also a key component in fulfilling our mission. My 19 years at the helm of this remarkable company have been some of the most rewarding times I have ever experienced. Growing up in Bryan, I would never have imagined that the Brazos Valley would have so many theatre groups. To be voted the best of them is an unimaginable blessing! As I write, The Theatre Company is preparing its production of the legendamong-legendary musicals “Gypsy.” Performances are from June 15 to June

atercrest in Bryan is the Brazos Valley’s newest retirement community, and was voted as the Readers’ Choice “Best Independent Living Facility” for the second consecutive year. Watercrest, 3801 East Crest Drive, offers resort-style living in 205 luxurious apartment homes for people over 40. The beautiful Watercrest campus is highlighted by 16 scenic acres, and features independent living apartments for lease in one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Features include a heated saltwater pool, beauty salon/barber shop with manicures, pedicures and facials, a media library and a learning center with Posit Science classes, fitness center, arts and crafts classroom center, massage therapy salon, and transportation services and more. “Watercrest at Bryan has all the conveniences, flexibility and amenities you need and want,” said Lane Baker, director of marketing for Watercrest. “We are a unique community in

that we offer services based on your needs at a reasonable price. It’s that added peace of mind knowing that at Watercrest, you have everything you need to enjoy the prime of your life and age in place.” Watercrest was developed by Integrated Real Estate Group president Richard Simmons, of Integrated Property Management in 2009, and was founded by South Bay Partnership, Ltd. founder/partner Craig Spaulding. The platform’s progressive design and premise offers active adults choicebased services and amenities, Baker said. “Watercrest provides a distinctive life of luxury and we are passionately committed to making a difference in people’s lives by providing service of the highest quality and value in an enjoyable, compassionate environment by promoting health, independence and social interaction,” Baker said. He believes Watercrest won the Readers’ Choice award because it is the best of its type of business in the

area. “We are the only active adult community in the area that offers the highest quality of independent living with optional services packages based on the individual needs of the customer,” Baker said. Residents can pick and choose service packages based on their desires – including meal plans and twice-permonth housekeeping with linen and laundry services and much more. “We take the work and worry out of your daily routine so you can enjoy life’s simple pleasures,” Baker said. “Whether it’s meeting new neighbors or enjoying our calendar of events, activities, trips and special programs, Watercrest at Bryan offers something for everyone.” Baker said “the residents of Watercrest inspire the business to constantly think of ways to add value and quality to their experience.” Baker said it felt “great” for Watercrest to win the award. “I know that Watercrest at Bryan is

the best independent living community around, and this recognition confirms that the Bryan/College Station area residents agree,” he said. “I am grateful to the Eagle readers for voting for Watercrest at Bryan, and I invite everyone to come out and see what all the fuss is about,” he added. “Have the time of your life in the prime of your life at Watercrest at Bryan!” In addition to its current services, Watercrest is now offering a Personal Advantage Program to the public that is designed for people who want to remain independent, but would benefit from some additional personal attention. This new program offers three meals per day, weekly housekeeping, medication reminders, assistance to and from meals, and the added comfort of knowing that someone is available 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency. BEST Bank

ells Fargo values customer service, and that’s likely why it was voted the “Best Bank” by Eagle readers for two consecutive years, Community Bank President David A. O’Neil said. “Wells Fargo can help meet any banking need with professional, courteous team members and a complete array of banking services,” O’Neil said. “What sets us apart is our dedication to putting the customer at the center of everything we do. Independent surveys consistently rate our customer service among the best.” Wells Fargo is the fourth-largest bank in the United States, and in Bryan-College Station, Wells Fargo has five banks with 142 team members to provide a full range of banking and financial services. Wells Fargo was founded in 1852 as an express and financial services company; it opened for business in San Francisco and Sacramento, just in time to serve the large influx of Americans who were drawn to California by the gold rush. O’Neil said customers inspire Wells Fargo to be a successful business. “We know our customers want the best in customer service, banking products and convenience, and would not be satisfied with anything less. That expectation drives us to constantly improve. We have learned that the best formula for success is to make sure that you put your customers at the center of everything you do.” O’Neil said it was gratifying to be awarded for excellence, but it’s especially satisfying to be voted on by local customers.

“What’s really significant and rewarding about winning Readers’ Choice is that the voters are our customers in Bryan-College Station,” he said. “They are the reason we are in business.” Wells Fargo constantly adds to its mix of products and services to make sure customers are getting the best, O’Neil said. Within the past few months, Wells Fargo has introduced several services to better customer service, he said. One was “Send & Receive Money,” which lets its customers send money to other customers through online or mobile banking, using only an e-mail address or mobile phone number. Another was an online community, where students and parents can plan for college, including student loans. Currently, the bank is rolling out mobile check deposits in selected markets, which will be available to all customers by the end of the year. O’Neil added that Wells Fargo is working to be a “part of the solution” for customers in Bryan-College Station and across the nation. “We are lending to businesses, helping people buy homes, keeping people in their homes, developing new approaches to customer service, contributing to our communities, supporting our schools and increasing our efforts at sustainability and the environment,” O’Neil said. “We are striving to be one of the world’s greatest companies – one customer at a time.” For more information, visit www. wellsfargo.com or call 979-776-3277.

oppe Bridge Bar & Grill was voted by The Eagle readers for the “Best Burgers” award for the 13th consecutive year, recognizing the business for 20 years of feeding juicy burgers to hungry Aggies and other locals. Koppe Bridge Bar & Grill has two College Station locations -- 11777 Wellborn Road and 3940 Harvey Road. Delph Ross, who owns Koppe Bridge along with his wife, Glenda Ross, said both eateries have been “serving Bryan-College Station the Best Big Burger in Town for 20 years now.” Koppe Bridge started as a local spot out in the county on Wellborn Road with the vision of serving a few burgers and some “really cold beer,” according to the restaurant. After 10 years, the second location on Harvey Road was added. The restaurant has also expanded to include a menu with enough variety to satisfy any hungry appetite. Glenda said she believes Koppe Bridge won the “Best

BEST Hamburgers Burger” award because of fresh, quality food. “Our goal is to serve the freshest product possible and to provide our customers with a dining experience that is unique to Aggieland,” she said. “Our meat is ground to our specifications by a local meat company. It is delivered as fresh as you can get it, along with our produce and other quality food items.” Other than their award winning burgers, menu items that have become favorites

with many of their customers include the hand-battered chicken fried steak plate as well as their fresh pit smoked barbeque. Koppe Bridge adds new items to the menu from time to time, which recently includes the popular Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and Baja Fish tacos that can either be ordered fried or grilled. It has recently added several new appetizers, and has also introduced smaller portion sizes on a few of its menu items to offer more options for those wanting a little less than its typical generous portions. Koppe Bridge’s goal for excellence and its staff are part of what makes it successful, Glenda said. “We always strive for the best quality product possible at a

fair price, and anything short of that is not acceptable,” she said. “We have an excellent staff of employees that we entrust to uphold the integrity of our business on a daily basis. It is our belief that living in our great community has great rewards, and our mission also includes giving back to our community. We pride ourselves on using local vendors and service providers in the daily course of our

business. Above all, enduring commitment, the highest ethical standards, and never taking your blessings for granted are the basic keys to our success.” Winning the “Best Burger” Readers’ Choice award made Glenda feel thankful to Koppe Bridge’s loyal customers, she said. community who partner with us to provide care.” In January, Hospice Brazos Valley expanded its patient care efforts by opening an inpatient facility dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care specifically for hospice patients who require active treatment, frequent assessment and skilled interventions. Open 24 hours, seven days a week, the facility’s amenities create the feeling of home. “Short term acute care to help manage symptoms, provided in a family-oriented environment, helps stabilize patients and supports their families,” Borchardt said. The facility houses seven private suites furnished to support overnight stays for loved ones. Patient rooms have an outdoor view and are filled with natural light, along with a spacious family room available for visitors. “The care at Hospice Brazos Valley, regardless of location, centers on the patient’s ability to live life to the fullest,” Borchardt said. “We believe

our patients value dignity and the treatment of the whole person – body, mind and spirit. Everyone involved in our mission values a plan for delivering care that is dedicated to achieving quality of life as defined by our patients. Each member of the palliative care team provides healing, companionship and valuable assistance to patients and caregivers

at every stage of life. Hospice care enables patients living with a terminal illness to remain comfortable at home or in a homelike setting, with the support of family and caregivers. Our goal is to advocate for patients to live as independently and comfortably as possible and to assist in achieving endof-life goals.”

This commitment contributed to the decision by readers to vote the organization the “Best Nonprofit Agency” again in 2012. Since 1989 Hospice Brazos Valley has been the leader in end-of-life care for terminally ill patients and is the only non-profit hospice in the Brazos Valley. Borchardt was honored that Hospice Brazos Valley won the Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award. “We are dedicated to clinical excellence and unwavering compassion for our patients and their loved ones,” Borchardt said. “We have touched the lives of over 10,000 patients. BEST Vein Center

o you or someone you know suffer from painful or embarrassing leg symptoms like swelling, varicose veins, ulcers, or restless legs? You’re not alone! Approximately half of women and men in the United States suffer from some type of vein problem in their legs. To meet the growing health needs of their patients, Cardiologists Gloria Jean Mays, Ricardo Gutierrez, and Gordon Mitchell expanded their health services over two years ago to establish the Brazos Vein Institute. In addition to treating vein disorders at the Brazos Vein Institute, Doctors Mays, Gutierrez, and Mitchell are part of the Central Texas Heart Center, which has been serving the Brazos Valley’s cardiology needs for over 25 years. Brazos Vein Institute began offering Free Vein Screenings in Bryan, Navasota, and Brenham to help patients identify the cause of leg

problems originating from vein disease. A 10 to 25 minute evaluation during the screening includes a medical questionnaire, an exam of the legs, and an ultrasound scan of the leg veins by a registered vascular technologist who specializes in venous disease. Dr. Gloria Mays says that the non-invasive ultrasound is a key factor in the patient’s diagnosis. The ultrasound helps to locate the source and the extent of the venous disease. “Approximately 70 percent of people who come in for free vein screenings are candidates for one of our vein treatments,” said Mays, “and based on the patient’s results, the team at Brazos Vein Institute will determine the proper course of treatment for that individual.” Brazos Vein Institute is experienced in offering the most progressive approaches in treating patients with all stages of venous reflux. In the past, varicose veins were commonly treated by a painful procedure known as “vein

stripping,” which consists of removing the entire vein from the leg and tying off both ends. Now, radiofrequency ablation of the vein is the preferred treatment of choice. During radiofrequency ablation (RFA), a thin tube or “catheter” is inserted into the diseased vein, which delivers thermal energy (heat) into the vein wall and causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. Doctor Gordon Mitchell notes the ease of the procedure because it is able to be performed in the doctor’s office under local anesthesia, is relatively pain free, and can be performed in as little as 30 minutes. Mitchell says “Within 10 minutes of the procedure, the patient is able to resume normal activities and is able to return to work on the same day.” To treat the smaller, spider veins, a new minimally invasive procedure called VeinWave is utilized. Radiofrequency energy is delivered through an ultrafine insulated needle to heat the unwanted blood vessels closed. Patients are not required to wear bandages and can resume everyday activity immediately after treatment. Brazos Vein Institute is tremendously excited and

grateful to be selected as Readers’ Choice Best Vein Center. Dr. Ricardo Gutierrez stated, “There is no greater form of compliment than an acknowledgement from our patients that they are sincerely pleased with our efforts. So for

those that voted Brazos Vein Institute as Readers’ Choice, we are truly grateful.” For more information on vein disease or to schedule your free vein screening, call 979- 776-WALK or visit www. brazosvein.com.

ings ‘N More™ is known by local residents for its wings, and that was made even more evident as customers voted the restaurant for the 2012 Readers’ Choice “Best Wings” award. Wings ‘N More™, 1511 University Drive in College Station, prides itself on giving guests high-quality food, drinks and service at a great price. Wings ‘N More has been Aggie owned and operated for 25 years. The Wings ‘N More chain was founded in 1987 by Mark Dennard, A&M Class of 1978. Dennard came up with the concept during the time he was playing football in the NFL. Dennard played NFL football for nine years, seven with the Miami Dolphins and two with the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time in Miami, he was introduced to “buffalo style” chicken wings. He became a fan of the spicy wings, according to the company, and sampled several types of wings during football season travels. Dennard found the best wings were in Miami, and he and his family were disappointed in the lack of availability of the wings while spending the offseason at home in Texas. By the time he retired from football, he had decided

to open his first wings restaurant in Houston. The business started slowly, but Wings ‘N More™ restaurants have steadily gained acceptance and grown a loyal following, according to the company’s website. Richard Gonzalez, director of marketing, said he believes Wings ‘N More™ won the award because it “undoubtedly meets and exceeds customer demand for taste, value, convenience, service and quality.” Winning the award indicates that Wings ‘N More™ stands out from the competition, he said. “Winning the Readers’ Choice is exciting because it allows the community to let us know that we stand out from the crowd,” he said. “There are more and more restaurants coming into this area every day, and to win this award shows that our hard work provided by the staff and management is paying off.” Gonzalez said the drive to satisfy customers is partly what inspires Wings ‘N More™ to be a better business. “Wings ‘N More™ enjoys coming up with new recipes for both our food and beverage menus,” he said. “We accept the challenge to introduce new

does for it and hopes “to continue this great relationship for years to come. Thanks to all of our fans for all that you do.” A recent addition by Wings ‘N More™ is Wings ‘N More™ Express locations, each with a dining area and drive -through. The two Express locations are in the Brazos Valley area; they are both in Bryan, at 1561 West Villa Maria Road and 2612 Highway 21 East.

different strategies for every individual. “We provide individualized care to each patient as everyone has a specific problem and specific need,” he said. He said he felt flattered to win the award, and thanked his customers for voting for Listen Hear Audiology Center. Herring has a Doctorate of Audiology from The University of Florida and maintains his

audiology license through annual continuing education. He said that allows him to stay current in his field, and benefits each person that is seen in his clinic because they can be assured they are getting the most up-to-date service and products as possible. Listen Hear Audiology Center carries several different brands of hearing devices to better fit each patient’s needs, including ReSound, Oticon, Starkey, Siemens,

Hansaton (rechargeable systems), Phonak, Lyric and more. Hearing aids are not “one-size-fits-all,” and it is important to match features with the patient’s hearing loss, lifestyle and budget. The hearing aid is only part of the rehabilitation process, however. “The services of fitting, programming and maintaining the devices are the most challenging aspect of helping someone hear their best,” Herring said.

“Anyone can get a license to sell hearing aids, but it takes proper training and skill to provide a level of exceptional service so that a successful outcome can occur.” Herring said what inspires him to better his business is “seeing happy faces, seeing a child hear for the first time and improving relationships with better hearing.” For more information, visit www.listenhearaudiolog y. com. Around the same time, co-owner John Stanfield started a technology company specializing in computer support and software for businesses, as well as audio/video installations for residential and commercial clients. Jackson and Stanfield began referring clients to each other as their customers were seeking the services that each of their businesses had to offer. In 2009, the two decided to merge the gap between these industries and combined their companies to form CEO Etc. (Computers, Electronics, Office Etc.) Jackson said it felt great to win two Readers’ Choice awards. CEO’s computer and security departments have thrived this year, he said, and he

felt “blessed” that the company has continued to grow at a great pace. “We truly value our clients and really appreciate all of their votes,” Jackson said. In fact, helping clients is what inspires Jackson to keep making the business better. “It is very inspiring every time we help our clients get the results that they want,” he said. “We have

The ProMover program works with federal and state governments to mitigate unethical moving practices. It clearly separates those who masquerade themselves as a legitimate mover. “Just because a company has a website, a truck, a trailer and a few guys doesn’t make it a legitimate, ethical moving company,” Leigh Ann said. “Do your homework; it’s worth it.” All of D&D’s employees attend training classes to ensure they meet the professional and ethical standards the Daniels built their company on. A good moving company can eliminate much of that stress, and The Eagle’s readers have named D&D Moving company the 2012 Readers’ Choice winner for “Best Moving Company” for the fourth year in a row. Owners Dan and Leigh Ann Daniel have worked hard to earn the company’s reputation for being ethical, professional and affordable, and are honored to be recognized again for their efforts. “Dan and I are grateful to the community, to our customers and to our employees,” Leigh Ann said. “We couldn’t have done any of this without your support.” Winning this year’s Readers’ Choice Award isn’t the only reason for celebration at D&D Moving these days. In March 2009, the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) officially certified D&D Moving and Storage as a ProMover. ew things hit the spot on a Texas Summer day quite like fried chicken and a big glass of sweet tea, and few places serve that up like Chicken Express, winners of the 2012 Readers’ Choice for “Best Chicken” and “Best Sweet Tea.” Chicken Express began in Benbrook, Texas in 1988, and came to College Station in 2001 thanks to storeowners Clayton and Jana Rhoades. They’ve been a big hit in the community, winning “Best Chicken” for seven consecutive years and taking “Best Sweet Tea” honors for the last four years. “I grew up with the people that started the franchise,” Jana said. “They believe in serving an outstanding product with excellent customer service.” Clayton and Jana, both Texas A&M graduates, opened their first restaurant shortly after graduation and now have three locations serving the community. “Bryan and College Station are both amazing cities,” Jana said. “We love living here and having our business here.” Chicken Express opened their third local restaurant on Texas Avenue in

downtown Bryan with a convenient drive through window and the same great food you have enjoyed at their other two locations. The most popular beverage by far is the sweet tea. The Readers’ Choice added a sweet tea category in 2009 and Chicken Express has won the title every year since. “When we ask people if they have eaten with us, they always say how much they love our sweet tea and chicken tenders,” Clayton said. The Rhoades family prides themselves on the quality of service at Chicken Express just as much as with the quality of their product. They strive to create a friendly atmosphere at Chicken Express that will keep customers coming back again and again. “Positive attitudes are contagious,” Jana said. “We are always positive about our job and that is passed on to our managers, who pass it along to the employees. When the employees have that positive attitude, the customer picks it up as well.” Clayton and Jana are excited to once again be voted best in both chicken and sweet tea by their friends and neighbors.

BEST Landscaper

P

rofessional landscape design can effortlessly convey a sense of inspired creativity and distinct individualism in one’s yard. Whether you prefer a rambling English garden to complement a quaint cottage or a tropical hideaway to escape the Texas heat, upscale landscaping should always meet your needs while also fulfilling your design

dreams. Why, then, are so many homes in many a lovely neighborhood lacking in inventive, sophisticated landscape design? The reasons and thoughts deterring the process abound in the minds of those craving their own personalized outdoor space. Thoughts such as, “I don’t want a highmaintenance yard,” to “I don’t even know what my design style would be,” often hinder people in moving forward with landscaping. A desire to remain environmentally conscious has more recently moved to the forefront of our collective mind, and a fear of causing harm to nature may also discourage one’s design aspirations. Regardless of what concerns you may have, The Ground Crew can offer sustainable design solutions perfectly tailored to meet each customer’s needs and desires. An artistic eye and attention to detail is the fuel that makes The Ground Crew the premiere landscape design and installation

company in greater Bryan/College Station. Lead designer Brandon Lacy, 1998 graduate of the Texas A&M College of Architecture, has accrued over 14 years of design and construction experience and uses his adept skills daily to take every client’s concern, desire, and vision and turn them all into a fully realized landscape concept. Owner Scott Kenley -- who has over 20 years of green industry experience and a full design division consisting of 100 percent Texas A&M College of Architecture graduates and interns -- also work tirelessly to create the dynamic and intricate landscapes that are sure to please their clients for years to come. Because The Ground Crew provides a construction team, Brandon and the design team can work alongside them throughout the entire project to ensure that all the aesthetics remain finely tuned to the client’s personality.

Should you find yourself pining for an outside oasis of your very own but don’t know where to begin, or if you have a vision floating in and out of your mind and are not certain of how to pull it all together, The Ground Crew is ready and willing to help you in any way possible. From everyone here at The Ground Crew we would also like express how honored we are to have our community vote for us as their favorite landscapers. Thank you and God Bless.

BEST Local Annual Event

T

he annual Texas Reds Steak and Grape Festival is a two-day event in October that includes tasting Texas wines and steaks, live music and shopping at vendor booths, and it was voted by The Eagle readers as the Readers’ Choice “Best Local Annual Event” winner. The event, hosted by the city of Bryan in Downtown Bryan, started in 2007. The sixth annual event will be held Oct. 12 and 13. Allen Bruggman, city spokesman, said the festival was created to draw attention to the Downtown area that had recently been revitalized. “The city has poured millions into revitalizing the area, and the first festival organizers thought a festival would be perfect to highlight the beautiful area,” Bruggman said. “Most everyone knows about Downtown now, but it’s still the perfect opportunity to expose new people to new businesses and new changes to Downtown.” Bruggman said he believes the festival isn’t thought of as a city or Downtown Bryan event, but has become “the signature event for the Brazos Valley.” “People associate the festival with a great time, and I think it’s an easy

choice when people are voting for this award,” he said. “That fact means a great deal to those of us who help organize Texas Reds.” Bruggman said the inspiration for improvements to the festival come from festival-goers. “They are our clientele, and the actual event may only be two days in the fall, but it’s a significant experience,” he said. “When we get feedback from an attendance group that is over 25,000 strong, it’s hard not to listen to what they say. Our attendees are what make this festival what it is.” He said city officials were “honored and humbled” to win the award. “It’s an overwhelming experience to see all the people in the Downtown area enjoying an event that went through months and months of planning, and we feel those feelings again knowing that people thought of that experience when they were voting for Readers’ Choice,” he said. For this year’s event, Aggie Roger Creager will be on the main stage, with Johnny Lee opening for him on Saturday night. “We’re looking forward to having the same crowd favorites as part of the festival, but also constantly

tweaking things to make the entire experience, more and more enjoyable for everyone,” he said. “This isn’t our event; it’s the community’s event

and we want to make it a blast for everyone!” For more information, visit www. texasredsfestival.com.

Foundation Repair Customers are quick to praise Anchor Foundation for the quality of work. One letter sent to them from a homeowner selling his property stated he found paperwork from a foundation repair 14 years earlier as he was going through the property records. Realizing how well the repairs had held, he was compelled to contact Anchor. “You may have forgotten the job by now, but I wanted to let you know your foundation repair has held up perfectly all these years,” the letter read. “It’s almost hard to believe 14 years have gone by since you repaired the foundation, but it is still in perfect condition.” Anchor Foundation matches the quality of its technique with the quality of its service. The 2009 Better Business Bureau Torch Award winner for marketplace ethics, Anchor Foundation focuses their repair work on only what is necessary to protect their customers’ homes. They are up front with what they do and believe that is why their customers have voted them as a Readers’ Choice winner. “We are very honored to win this award,” Tripp said. “I would like to thank my customers for their trust in my work and their continued referrals.”

home is the biggest investment most people make in their life, and foundation damage can ruin that investment. When it comes to making sure your home is on the level, Anchor Foundations is the 2012 Readers’ Choice for “Best Foundation Repair.” Anchor Foundation was founded in 1985 by Ken Tripp. He came to Bryan/College Station from Houston where he worked for the people who pioneered modern foundation repair. Anchor’s deep-drilled bellbottom pier techniques have been proven effective for more than 40 years by the VA and FHA. “Homes repaired with this technique have stood the test of time,” Tripp said. “My employees and I continue to make lasting repairs to homes. Our customers are very happy with the results and tell their friends and neighbors about us.” The majority of foundation problems come from homes built on a grade or on unstable soil. Anchor Foundation can fix either problem with their deepdrill method. The foundation support pier runs 10 to 12 feet deep, meaning the support is anchored in soil that maintains a relatively constant moisture level.

BEST Orthodontist

I

n a recent interview of one of Dr. Troy Elms’ patients, the patient stopped mid-sentence and said, “Have you met Dr. Elms? He’s wonderful.” It’s a sentiment that is widely shared by Dr. Elms’ patients both young and old. Happy patients want others to know about their great experience. It’s rare that an orthodontist can build a large and thriving practice, but manage to give each and every patient the individual attention that leads to lifelong friendships. The kind of friendships that lead to enthusiastic word of mouth recommendations. Dr. Elms has not only managed to create a truly special environment, but has done so without compromising orthodontic quality. This combination is what endears patients to Dr. Elms, his loyal staff and to the great results he produces. Dr. Elms knew from the very beginning that he wanted to create a special practice. A practice that simultaneously focused on quality orthodontic care and caring for the individual. A practice that honed in on a patient’s hopes, dreams and aspirations. By creating a great, confident smile, Dr. Elms could help them achieve their dreams. It was a different way of thinking that moved far beyond the pragmatic straightening of teeth. Patients liked the difference. They liked the results and they liked Dr. Elms. As word spread, soon the practice was growing by leaps and bounds. And as the practice grew, so did Dr. Elms’ desire to change the actual office experience he wanted patients to have. Dr. Elms realized that he needed to build a freestanding building that could house his growing file folder of ideas. He needed to create his patients a new home. Today, Elms Orthodontics occupies a building that embodies every idea Dr. Elms ever wanted for his patients and has become the benchmark for what a modern orthodontic practice can be. Located conveniently on the North East corner of the intersection of the Highway 6 Bypass and 2818/Emerald Parkway the building is unmistakably inviting on the exterior. A huge portecochere welcomes cars and

knocks the Texas heat off arriving patients before they enter to experience the home-like interior lobby. A thousand little touches make it special. Like the movie theater room that entertains while you wait. The receptionist and treatment team know your name. Though most patients enjoy the friendly banter and a chance to catch up with the staff, many pick up the hand held consoles at each treatment station and spend a few minutes surfing the Internet. Since 1991, Elms Orthodontics has also grown to encompass a thriving adult orthodontic practice along with its traditional youth orthodontics. As baby boomers continue to live longer and more active lives, many are turning to orthodontics to extend the

health of their teeth and keep their youthful smile. For adult patients the options are many - traditional braces, invisible braces, Invisalign braces and more. Dr. Elms evaluates each patient’s lifestyle and recommends what is best for their day-to-day needs and long-term expectations. In all cases the end result becomes a better-aligned bite, straight, even teeth and a beautiful new smile. For some adult patients, it is their first experience with an orthodontist; for others it represents a second time around to correct a drifting tooth or bite. When it comes to youth orthodontics, Dr. Elms is in a league of his own. Students love the Elms experience beginning with the Orthomobile. Conceived by Dr. Elms as a service to help busy, working

parents by offering free rides to and from school for orthodontic appointments, the Orthomobile was an immediate hit. The kids love the freedom of getting to ride to the appointment in a customized, chauffeured Hummer; the parents like the convenience; and the school systems have been completely supportive. In the summer, Dr. Elms rents the entire aquatic center for his patients in what has become a most anticipated

summer event. Food, fun and antics take center stage as hundreds of patients from the Brazos Valley have the party of the summer all courtesy of Elms Orthodontics. And, to peek in, it would appear that Dr. Elms and team are having as much fun as the guests. If you are considering braces for your child or yourself, give Dr. Elms a visit. It will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made and, one of the best experiences. You’re going to love Dr. Elms!

f you would have told Hub Kennady that his “super storage” facility would gain the distinction of being the Reader’s Choice three out of the last four years, he would have been pleasantly surprised, but not shocked. “Our aim is to meet the customer when he or she needs us. We had a goal of differentiating ourselves from the rest of the market, and most importantly, we work at that goal every day,” Kennady states quietly, but in a recognizably yet understandably proud way. A&M Super Storage opened in 2008, and has won the award for the last three years. Employees truly mean it when they say “The customer is our boss.” Manager, Dave Oakes embodied that service concept, and we try to make Dave proud of us and do what he did for this facility for over three years. At A&M Super Storage, as Kennady reveals, “Your employees are the first and most important “face” of

A&M Super Storage. I give all the credit to them. You can rely on Nick, Allison, and me to match your needs with what size unit you need. If you need covered large RV parking or a small car uncovered parking or a large climate-controlled unit, we can find a solution for your needs. We try to think outside the box, or ‘unit’ in this case.” His customers know that the A&M Super Storage staff is willing to make the extra effort. Whether it’s staying open late or meeting someone on a Sunday evening, Kennady and his crew want to make sure his customers are happy. “Our phone number is easy, 690-5000, and my after hours direct number is 255-2057. Please call us,” Kennady adds. Jeff Horak has been an A&M Super Storage customer since 2009 and recommended the facility to his brother-inlaw. They were moving items over from Humble and weren’t going to be able to make it during normal business

hours. “We called Hub and he agreed to meet us Sunday afternoon late,” Horak said. “In a business like this, what makes you stand out is customer service. I think it sets you apart when you are willing to do things like that for a customer. We certainly walked away happy.” Horak’s case is not an isolated instance. Customers at A&M Super Storage can expect to be treated well in return for their business. “The customer is our boss and we remember that every day,” Oakes said. “The fact they chose to do business with us is a compliment to everyone here.” A&M Super Storage’s 50,000 square foot facility can handle almost any storage need. Climate controlled units range from 5x5 to 10x30 feet and non-climate controlled units from 5x10 to 10x30 feet. They even rent office space! Special RV and both covered and uncovered boat storage is

also available. Kennady said that winning a Readers’ Choice Award is an accomplishment for a business like his that places an emphasis on customer service.

“We are honored by the customers and friends of customers who have been referred to us,” Kennady said. “We will continually strive to earn the business of those who have a need for storage.”

or the sixth year, Celebrity Spa & Salon is the favorite in four separate categories in The Eagle’s 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards. They were designated as Best Beauty Salon, Best Day Spa and Best Nail Salon. Special recognition goes to Laura Atkinson, the senior stylist at Celebrity, who was again voted the Favorite Hairstylist. Laura, sister Leah Lucas, and their mother, Cindy Atkinson, have been coowners of Celebrity since 2006. They offer a complete range of salon services, the latest trends in spa pedicures, manicures and luxurious spa treatments essential for creating a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. Celebrity was named to the Salon Today 200 list this year by Salon Today magazine, (the top business publication for salon and spa owners) and a recipient of The Newman 10 Business Performance Award,

as one of the Top 10 FastestGrowing Small Businesses in Brazos County. Leah said, “We are thankful to our guests and talented professionals for being a part of the many awards and recognition we have received. We are excited and eager to demonstrate our appreciation at the new and larger location.” Laura is a member of the Celebrity team of highlytrained stylists who have knowledge of all the latest trends. “Fashion is always changing, so we have to change with it,” said Laura. “We must continue our education and training in the industry so we can offer the highest quality service.” In 2010, Laura became a Redken certified colorist (awarded to only about 2 percent

of stylists nationwide), and is also a certified Master Redken specialist. “With each guest, I start with a consultation,” she said. “From there we create a look that coincides with their hair type, face shape and skin tone, their lifestyle, and how they typically style their hair.” Laura is also a certified pureology pureologist, and a certified Jane Iredale makeup artist. The tranquil spa offers fullday spa packages, massages, professional hair removal and facials. Customized facials help restore the health of your skin; facial and body sculpting treatments with micro-current technologies firm, tone and reverse the signs of aging. Aestheticians

offer professional make-up application featuring The Jane Iredale skin care makeup line for customers interested in makeup that’s good for the skin. Due to their tremendous growth, Celebrity Spa & Salon in early June moved into its new location, a few steps next door from the original location. Cindy is confident that Celebrity’s guests will be delighted by the new surroundings. Celebrity Spa & Salon is one of the few Elite Redken Salons in Texas and its specialists

understand that your hair is your best fashion accessory. When it looks amazing, so do you. Using professional products in a salon setting such as Celebrity gives you access to the newest techniques and advances in color science. Whether you’re heading in for first-time color, or ready to try out a bold new fashion look, Celebrity Spa offers it all. The Celebrity team of professionals have a goal – to “make every guest feel like a Celebrity from the moment they walk in the door”.
