Hospital, Urgent Care Facility

2015

It was over the holidays in 2014 when Melinda Green realized her chronic hip pain was severely impacting her quality of life. Melinda couldn’t walk, sit, stand or lay down without severe discomfort. “I couldn’t even enjoy the holidays with my sons because I was in excruciating pain. I missed a Navy graduation, an Army graduation and a high school graduation because of terrible hip pain. I

vowed to make a change,” she said. Melinda needed an orthopedic doctor she could trust. Her research led her to the Brazos Valley’s orthopaedics leader, St. Joseph Orthopaedic Associates in Bryan/College Station, which employs the most experienced orthopedic doctors and advanced surgical techniques, in addition to offering highly comprehensive services. “During one of our first

meetings, Dr. Barry Veazey took the time to show me my X-ray and explain everything. No pressure. He just offered a very patient explanation of what he saw and what he was recommending,” said Melinda. Shortly after speaking with Dr. Veazey, she opted for a total hip replacement. Her journey toward a painfree life with Orthopaedic Associates actually began before the surgery. “A really helpful aspect of St. Joseph’s was something called Joint University for preop education,” she said. “The staff explained the entire process I would go through, and I was given pre-op and post-op exercises to do, information on medicines, home health resources -- everything I needed to know. Joint University even has volunteers who have been through joint re-

placement surgery, and they really understand what patients are going through and how to achieve success.” From there, Melinda proceeded to surgery at St. Joseph. Thanks to her commitment to healing and the medical expertise and personal care provided by Dr. Veazey, she achieved her goal that originally brought her to Orthopaedic Associates. “Since my hip replacement my life has improved dramatically,” Melinda said. “I felt immediate pain relief. I quit using the walker at four weeks. Now, I exercise regularly, walk the treadmill, travel with my husband and it’s

wonderful! I’m able to walk now, without pain. I couldn’t be happier with the results.” Dr. Veazey commented on Melinda’s success story, “After meeting Melinda, I was determined to help alleviate her pain. My work is personal, and I do my best to help guide and support my patients through the entire process and find the outcome that is right for them,” Dr. Veazey said. Dr. Veazey is one of many highly skilled surgeons at St. Joseph Orthopaedic Associates located at the Bryan/College Station campus. He can be reached at 979-731-8888.

Dessert

2015 Must Be Heaven, voted as the 2015 “Best Dessert” winner in the Readers’ Choice awards, is wellknown in the Brazos Valley for its delicious homemade pies and other treats. In 1987 Shirley Syptak purchased the original Must Be Heaven restaurant in beautiful Downtown Brenham, from Connie Wilder. The restaurant offered delicious soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as homemade pies and quiches, in a unique, quaint and timeless atmosphere. In 1999 Charlie and Traci Pyle purchased the Brenham restaurant, and continued the quest for quality, wholesomeness, variety and value. In 2002 Baine and Donna Morrow opened the College

Station location on Rock Prairie Road, and in the spring of 2003, they expanded by purchasing the Bryan location on Villa Maria Road. Due to the nature of the restaurant’s concept, the Downtown Bryan location was opened in 2009 as a great fit to the Must Be Heaven family of restaurants. Must Be Heaven serves unique sandwiches on fresh-baked bread, soups, quiches, freshly prepared salads and desserts. Chicken salad is a favorite sandwich among customers. They also love Must Be Heaven’s heavenly pies. Chocolate, coconut meringue, Dutch apple, buttermilk chess and pecan are just a few of the many pies offered. Morrow said staff members miss serving Blue Bell ice cream due to

recent recalls, but hope to serve it again soon. Donna Morrow believes the homemade desserts and the comfortable, homey atmosphere set Must Be Heaven restaurants apart from the competition. Must Be Heaven was also voted “Best Dessert” last year in the Readers’ Choice competition, and in 2007 and 2013, it won “Best Deli Sandwich.” “We have won Readers’ Choice awards on numerous occasions,” she said. “So many people love pie. As the saying goes, ‘Pie fixes everything.’” Must be Heaven provides a unique experience that brings customers back to the good ‘ole days of ice cream shops and handcrafted sandwiches. Everything from the hand-painted décor to the old-time atmosphere makes everyone slow down and enjoy the day. Must Be Heaven franchise opportunities are available in other cities and towns. Tractor/ Farm Equipment Dealer

2015

Agriculture is king in this part of Texas, and Coufal-Prater is the 2015 Readers’ Choice for “Best Tractor/Farm Equipment Dealer.” Coufal-Prater Equipment, LTD opened its first store in Temple in 1974 as Coufal Equipment Company. As a John Deere dealer, Coufal Equipment grew as John Deere grew through the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. In 1985, a store was opened in Cameron. The Prater Equipment Company opened its Bryan location in 1992, and expanded into Navasota in 2001. In November of 2004, the Coufal

and Prater companies merged to form Coufal-Prater Equipment, which has been providing topnotch service ever since. Further expansion was made in March 2010 with the addition of the Taylor location. The employees and management at Coufal-Prater strive to be the source for all their customers’ needs, from offering the very best products to making sure the staff is able to support those products with unmatched customer service and knowhow. It is also their goal to build customer trust and loyalty both in the store and around town

through sponsoring local events and encouraging employees to be active members of the community. “We are very proactive in supporting local community events and in supporting our customers,” said Phil Hitchcock, general manager for Coufal-Prater. “We support our governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, 4-H organizations and FFA for our youth. We strongly support our smaller communities and their fundraising opportunities for community centers, volunteer firemen and booster organizations.” Customer support is the hallmark of Coufal-Prater’s business. Its stores offer extended business hours, as well as weekend on-call staff for parts and service work. Coufal-Prater also shows support for the agricultural community through in-house financing options and other services such as the John Deere credit card and the Farm Plan – a program that allows flexible financing for farmers.

A commitment to customers and dependable service has won Coufal-Prater plenty of loyal customers who do not hesitate to recommend the store to their friends. Having the customers show their appreciation through the Readers’ Choice Awards is something the entire CoufalPrater staff takes pride in.

Locally owned and operated by the Wilks Group, the College Station Ashley Furniture HomeStore offers a unique in-store experience for their guests. From their service and design tools, to their large range of products and pricing to fit every budget, Ashley HomeStores are created just for you. It all starts with the owners, the Wilks family, who have been in the furniture business for over 50 years. Their passion is to inspire, collaborate and help you create your dream home. Store owner Mark Wilks said his company takes great pride in how his employees interact with shoppers. He stresses to them that great customer service is the first

priority. “The communication we have with customers is what sets us apart,” Wilks said. “We do followup calls with customers after a sale, and when we do something wrong, we make sure that we go back and make it right the second time. People like to be taken care of, so we’re always trying to do a great job of that.” He adds, “We answer any question a customer has, so we can do things the way they want it done.” Style, trends and tastes don’t stand still, and neither does Ashley Furniture HomeStore. They know that as your life changes, they need to change with you. They love to uncover the latest trends and bring you fresh inspiration, so it’s no

surprise that they have been voted the “Best Furniture Store” again in 2015. They believe that your home is a reflection of you! Be inspired by their broad range of collections: Traditional, Contemporary, Vintage Casual® and Urbanology®. They are committed to help you bring your home to life. And, they’ll work with you every step of the way. Living room, dining room, bedroom or home office -- you’ll not only love what you bought, but you’ll love how you bought it. Looking for a great night’s sleep? They’ll show you all the leading mattress brands, including Tempur-Pedic® and AshleySleep®, as well as Serta® and Simmons® products, such as Beautyrest® and iComfort®. Ashley Furniture HomeStores sell more mattresses than any other furniture retailer in the country, so come in and see what makes them No. 1! Your dream home is within reach! They’ll listen to you and help uncover your personal style to create rooms you love to live in. It’s this commitment to you that has made Ashley HomeStores the No. 1 retailer of furniture and

mattresses in the United States. Whether it’s furniture, mattresses, art, rugs or accessories, Ashley Furniture HomeStore has what you’re looking for! The Wilks family owns three Ashley Furniture HomeStore locations. They opened their first one in Lufkin in 2005. The College Station store opened in 2007, with a store in Waco opening shortly thereafter. Each store has won many awards in its community for service and quality. Wilks said each award serves as proof that their customer service philosophy works. Wilks said he is proud that his store has earned the community’s

business and trust. Winning eight consecutive Readers’ Choice Awards (AFHS has won every year since 2008) is further indication that Ashley Furniture HomeStore continues to be appreciated by the community both in sales and customer satisfaction in Bryan/ College Station. “We just want to say thank you to all our customers who voted for us for their support and giving us a vote of confidence,” Wilks said. “This store is locally owned and operated. We live here and we spend our money locally, so it’s great to have the community respond back to us like this.”

Orthodontist

2015

Winning The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice Award for the eighth time has been a wonderful experience for Dr. Troy Elms and his team. “What makes us most excited is the challenge of constantly advancing the orthodontic experience and exceeding patient expectations. Receiving The Eagle’s Readers’ Choice award is a confirmation that we are getting it right with the people we care about most – our patients,” said Dr. Elms. A “positive patient experience” is a key phrase in Dr. Elms’ practice. Regular team meetings center on shaping the patient experience to ensure higher

and higher levels of satisfaction, efficiency and enjoyment. The Elms team does this by focusing on the most minute of details. “Can paperwork be reduced?” “Is the temperature right?” “Are options clearly explained?” “Are we listening to what patients have to say?” “What additional training can we take to advance our skills?” “What can we do to better engage and educate patients during their appointments?” The list is endless, as is Dr. Elms’ quest to keep refining his craft. Look in on Dr. Elms’ practice, and you see he has two distinct groups of patients that they

serve exceedingly well: the young students who are getting braces for the first time and adults who may have had braces as a child and need adjustments to their bite, or adults who have never had braces. The two groups are accommodated in different ways to ensure the orthodontic treatment matches their lifestyle and needs. For adults, the treatment choices are becoming increasingly diverse and effective. Ranging from iBraces, that are invisibly installed on the back of teeth; Clarity ceramic braces that are translucent and nearly invisible; and Invisalign, which are not braces at all, but a clear aligning system that has become very popular within recent years. These and other techniques all offer effective alternatives to conventional braces for adults. And Dr. Elms makes sure they always produce a beautiful, aligned smile. When it comes to youth orthodontics, Dr. Elms is in a league of his own. Students love

the Elms experience, beginning with the Orthomobile - which is the free, chauffeured Hummer shuttle, to and from school. Fun is also a big component for the student patients. Including the most anticipated Elms summer event – the annual Adamson Lagoon swim party, where food, fun and antics take center stage as hundreds of patients from the Brazos Valley have the party of the summer, all courtesy of Elms Orthodontics. And, to peek in, it would appear that Dr. Elms and team are having as much fun as the guests. Dr. Elms has not only managed to create a truly special environment, but has done so without compromising orthodontic quality. This combination is what endears patients to Dr. Elms, his loyal staff and to the great results they produce.

Located conveniently on the Northeast corner of the intersection of the Highway 6 bypass and F.M. 2818/Emerald Parkway, Dr. Elms’ building has become the benchmark for what a modern orthodontic practice can be. Unmistakably inviting, a huge porte-cochere welcomes cars and knocks the Texas heat off arriving patients. And the interior harbors a thousand little touches to make it special - like an in-house movie theater and iPads at each treatment station, allowing patients to surf the Internet. If you are considering braces for your child or yourself, give Dr. Elms a visit. It will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made and one of the best experiences. You’re going to love Elms Orthodontics!

Museum

2015

The Eagle readers have shown their appreciation for the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and its ability to tell the story of its namesake, George H. W. Bush, by voting it as this year’s “Best Museum” in the Readers’ Choice awards. The George Bush Library and Museum, at 1000 George Bush Drive West in College Station, opened in November 1997. “President Bush chose to put his library here because he felt a deep connection with the spirit, tradition and military heritage of Texas A&M,” said Warren Finch, director of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. The Bush Library and Museum

cares for more than 44 million pages of official documents and donated collections from George H. W. Bush’s presidency and throughout his public career, as well as more than 120,000 artifacts. Many of these papers and artifacts are on display in the museum and are accessible to researchers online and on site in the research room. The museum also uses primary source documents to enhance its many education programs. The library and museum underwent a major renovation and rededication 10 years after opening -- adding many more interactive exhibits, videos and hands-on activities. Additionally, it features changing temporary

exhibits that highlight various aspects of President Bush’s life and career. Currently, the “History in the Making: Texas A&M Forest Service” exhibit is being featured through early November. Finch said the museum is unique because of its ability to tell the story of Bush’s life. “We’re fortunate to be able to tell the story of George H. W. Bush,” Finch said. “He was a war hero, entrepreneur, congressman, ambassador, CIA director, vice president and president. Our visitors will learn much about history, government and the value of public service.” The museum has won the award in years past, and Finch said Bush Library and Museum officials are honored to win the accolade again. “We’re very honored to again be named the ‘Best Museum,’” he said. “We greatly appreciate the continued support of our friends and neighbors in the Brazos Valley, as well as visitors who come from across the country and around the world to visit our museum and community. “

Shown is a replica of the Oval Office, where visitors to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum can sit and have their picture taken behind the desk.

Best Florist

2015 The Petal Patch in Bryan goes above and beyond to meet customers’ needs. Perhaps that’s why it won this year’s “Best Florist” Readers’ Choice award. The Petal Patch is a fullservice florist shop that offers fresh flowers, balloons and gift baskets for all occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries, get-well wishes, proposals, weddings, events, funerals and just because. The store also offers home decor items and is a distributor of Circle E Candles. “Whether you need to send flowers or gifts across town or across the country - we are happy to help you!” owner

Elizabeth Brooks said. The Petal Patch opened its doors in 1975, and has been delivering smiles to the community ever since, she said. Brooks said she was blessed in 2012 with the opportunity to purchase the amazing business from the original owners, and she has taken great pride in making a good business even better. “We have taken a well-known business that has served this community for over 35 years, and continued to help it grow,” she said. “By offering the most up-to-date design work and great customer service, we’ve been able to increase our partnerships and customer

base.” Brooks said she and her staff members are continuously looking for ways to improve and expand what they have. “I know personally what a gift The Petal Patch has been to me, and in return, I hope to share that blessing with all of our customers - current and future,” she said. Brooks believes excellent service is what sets her business apart from other florists. “I believe that what sets us apart from our competition is that we go above and beyond to meet our customers’ needs,” Brooks said. “We offer custom arrangements to meet any budget, and we strive to offer the best customer service anywhere. We want your experience with The Petal Patch to be exceptional from the moment you call our store, until your flowers have been delivered.” Brooks said she felt honored to be voted “Best Florist” in Aggieland, and attributed the award to her customers.

“This is our first Readers’ Choice Award, and I believe that we were chosen because we are blessed with an amazing

group of customers who give us the opportunity every day to be able to do what we love!” Brooks said.

Credit Union

2015

Aggieland Credit Union, this year’s “Best Credit Union” winner in the Readers’ Choice awards, stands out because of its partnerships with members. Jason Goodman, SVP Aggieland/Branch Operations, believes Aggieland Credit Union won the award because of its daily efforts to take care of its members. “The community recognizes the daily effort of our staff to be their financial partner,” Goodman said. “Winning the award the last two years is reflective of our commitment to the community and their confidence in us.” Goodman said employees’ relationship-driven focus is what sets them apart from competition. “Our credit union is built upon

the foundation of people helping people and our member-owners have experienced the relationshipdriven focus of our staff,” he said. “We pride ourselves on building a partnership that can last a lifetime for those just starting out, to those preparing for retirement. Our members and our staff make the difference, and that has enabled us to grow with the surrounding communities.” Goodman said Aggieland Credit Union appreciates the award and what it stands for. “We are always thankful for our members and for their trust to serve as their community credit union,” he said. As a part of Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union, Aggieland

Credit Union’s history starts with its charter in 1952. In Aggieland, the Texas Aggie Credit Union started in the mid-1980s to serve the faculty, staff and students of Texas A&M University. Over the years the business has grown along with the community to serve all of Aggieland. The credit union will also soon break ground on a new branch location in south College Station, to add to 18 current branch locations across the state, Goodman said. It is also in the final stages of readying for Apple Pay and EMV VISA debit cards.

“Our credit union, much like our industry as a whole, has changed and adapted in the services and products that we provide to meet the needs of our members,” Goodman said. “With any new service or product, and along with our expanded branch network, we strive to enhance convenience for our members.” As a full-service financial institution, Aggieland Credit Union provides a wide range of banking products, such as savings and checking accounts, including IRAs or HSAs. Veterinary Care, Pet Boarding

2015

Staff members at Boonville Animal Hospital, winner of “Best Veterinary Care” and “Best Pet Boarding” awards, shares their customers’ passion for animals. Boonville Animal Hospital started in 1979, and in 1998 moved to its current location, 5665 FM 1179 in Bryan. Many things have changed over the years, but staff members’ warm, friendly service and compassion for animals remains, said Michael Glade, owner and DVM. Boonville Animal Hospital employs four doctors and

more than 20 support staff members to help care for customers’ four-legged family members. The clinic recently hired Dr. Kristina Paradowski, and last year added Dr. Eric Kneese and his wife, Dr. Dana Kneese, who works there part time. Boonville Animal Hospital offers services for large and small animals at the clinic, as well as farm calls to take care of animals without the added stress of traveling. Staff members provide medical and surgical procedures that include general, orthopedic

and soft tissue surgeries. They also help families customize preventative health plans to prevent their pets and herds from disease. Recent changes include the addition of digital X-rays and switching from paper records to digital records. Staff members were excited about the awards. “We are thrilled and thankful for all the community support we receive,” Glade said. “We owe a large amount of our success to our phenomenal employees and loyal clients. They, and their pets, are our favorite part of our job. Thank you!” He believes Boonville Animal Hospital won the awards because of wonderful employees and clients, and he hopes everyone who visits has an exceptional experience. Glade said employees’ professional, caring service is part of what sets it apart from competition. “We strive to provide professional medicine and surgery at an affordable price

with a caring atmosphere to make your family pets feel comfortable and loved,” he said. “We employ passionate employees who are crazy about animals and great at nurturing them back to health. We develop strong personal relationships with

our clients, and appreciate their friendship and passion for their pets. We feel we are truly blessed to have the best jobs in the world, and get excited each time we get to visit with any of our patients and clients.”

Real Estate Agent

2015

Whether buying or selling a house, having the right real estate agent can make the transaction considerably easier. When readers of The Eagle were asked, RE/MAX Select agent, Monica Palasota was clearly chosen as the “Best Real Estate Agent” in the 2015 Readers’ Choice Awards. For more than 12 years, Monica has been passionate about providing the best possible service to her clients. Having her clients show their appreciation through this award is an honor and something she is thankful for. “This award has special meaning to me since it was given by the community, the readers and my clients,” Monica said. “Winning is such a blessing. It confirms

2015

my belief that my hard work is satisfying my clients.” Monica is a Bryan native, and along with her husband and high school sweetheart, Richard, she has raised her own family here, too. Having been a member of this community her entire life, Monica has built a strong network of friends and colleagues, which allows her to go above and beyond what the average real estate agent can do. She is able to help her clients find their ideal homes and purchase it at the ideal price. She has a team of lenders, suppliers, repairmen, movers and stagers that make her a virtual one-stop shopping real estate service. She and Richard also own Richmon Homes, meaning Monica can

help families looking to build their dream home, as well. “I want to be the kind of Realtor clients know they can rely on to get the most out of their real estate experience,” she said. “My clients know they can call me any time during and after the transaction. They are confident when making referrals to me because they know their friends will receive the same priority and great service they received.” Monica credits her success to the fact she treats her clients as business partners during the home buying or selling process. She strives to make the process a team effort and includes her clients throughout the transaction. This allows the client a strong voice in the decisions along the way. The end result is usually something stronger than a regular agentclient relationship. “I love my job, and I love working with the people in this community,” she said. “As I work with clients, many become more like family to me.” The local real estate market is large and there are many agents from whom shoppers may choose.

Monica knows this and is grateful to be singled out by her clients and the community as one of the best. Energized from her Readers’

Choice award, she is ready to make new friends and help more people find their dream home.

Home Builder

2015

Whether building your dream home or undertaking a once-ina-lifetime renovation, finding a contractor who you can trust is a dream come true. When the Bryan-College Station community was asked, readers of The Eagle once again selected Richmon Homes as the “Best Home Builder” for the fourth year in a row. Being selected is a great honor, and owners Richard and Monica Palasota know they earned this designation as a direct result of their hard work and dedication to their clients. “We have always believed in giving the best possible service at the best possible price to our customer,” Richard said. “That’s

the way our family has been doing business in the B-CS area for over a century.” Richard and Monica understand that personal dedication to their clients has made Richmon Homes stand above the crowd of residential contractors, and they are thrilled with the feedback they have received from the community. “We take pride in the work we do, and it shows in the feedback we get from our clients,” said Monica. “It’s always nice to be recognized for our dedication to our homeowners.” Richard is a fourth-generation Bryan-College Station native, and he and his wife, Monica have raised their children and

grandchildren in the Brazos Valley. Having lived here their entire life, they have developed a thorough understanding of the local building community. “We have built a strong network of satisfied customers and business partners over the years, and I am blessed to have been doing it for so long,” he said. Both Richard and Monica credit a large portion of their success to a long-term commitment to personal development and continued education in residential construction. Richard has earned designations from the National Association of Home Builders as a Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Aging in Place Specialist and Certified Green Professional. These combined qualifications are only shared by 10 percent of residential contractors nationwide, giving Richmon Homes a unique ability to better service their clients. Richard combines his years of experience in residential construction, and his continued education, to design perfectly tailored homes, but together, Richard and Monica are a building

team that can’t be beat. From renovations to building your dream home, call Richard and Monica at Richmon Homes

Pest Control

2015

RP Lee Termite & Pest Control’s commitment to customer service and quality service is evident, as the business was voted this year’s Readers’ Choice “Best Pest Control” winner. Owner Randy Lee said after he graduated from Texas A&M University in 1983, he wanted to start his own company. So in 1985, he started his first pest control company, called Bug Blasters Pest Control. Bug Blasters was sold in 1994 to Orkin, and after staying with Orkin five years, Lee took on a Wood Destroying Insect (WDI) consulting role for a few years before founding RP Lee Termite & Pest Control in 2004. He chose the pest control business because it’s rewarding. “I believe it is rewarding to know you are supporting your commu-

nity and helping people protect their property, family or business from unwanted pests,” he said. RP Lee Termite & Pest Control provides residential and commercial pest control, termite control, rodent and wildlife control, WDI inspections/reports for home buying or refinance, mosquito misting systems, water mister cooling systems, and bat and bird exclusion services. A favorite product of many customers is the mosquito misting systems, which the business installs and maintains, Lee said. Lee said he believes the company’s commitment to customer service is what sets it apart from the competition. “We take pride in being quick to resolve any problems or issues that

our customers have,” he said. “We provide customer-focused service, at the best value possible. We also provide a wider range of service offerings, compared to other pest control companies, while still remaining locally- and Aggie-owned and operated.” “The growth of our customer base has always come from satisfied customers sharing their experiences via word of mouth, so we like to think that had a lot to do with the win,” he said. Growth Since opening, RP Lee has grown from a small, family-run pest control shop to a thriving business, offering a wide range of services, while still keeping the small company feel and personalized service customers love, Lee said. In recent years, the company has added new services, such as its bird and bat exclusion services, expanded wildlife control services, mosquito control services and water-mister cooling systems. They have also added additional service areas to expand beyond the Brazos Valley to include Conroe, Montgomery, Willis, San Marcos, Houston, Waco, Temple and Killeen.

Entertainment Venue, Park

2015

The City of College Station’s Wolf Pen Creek Park & Amphitheater is known for its clean, attractive grounds, as well as being a great venue for concerts and other large events, city officials said. Perhaps that’s why it was voted as the 2015 Readers’ Choice winner for “Best Entertainment Venue” and “Best Park.” Wolf Pen Creek Park and Amphitheater was developed as the first phase of the Wolf Pen Creek Corridor Master Plan, which was approved by the College Station City Council in 1998. The goal of

the plan was to recognize the interrelationships of drainage, erosion control and recreation along Wolf Pen Creek, as well as to create a community attraction for residents and out-of-town guests. The park offers walking/ biking trails, picnicking, a playground and a nine-hole disc golf course. The Wolf Pen Creek Festival Site includes 10-foot-wide concrete walking paths, lights, power/ water connections, drainage improvements and additional parking. The amphitheater is home to several special events that

T H E B RYA N - C O L L E G E S TAT I O N E A G L E

are sponsored by the City of College Station and many other organizations. Most popular, perhaps, is the Starlight Music Series that has been an annual event since 2002, said Gerry Logan, the city’s special events supervisor. Logan said size and location help to set the venue apart from competition. “Wolf Pen Creek is the largest amphitheater in the Brazos Valley, and is conveniently located in the center of College Station, close to shopping, restaurants, hotels and major highways,” Logan said. Kelli Nesbitt, the city’s marketing coordinator, believes Wolf Pen Creek Park & Amphitheater won the awards because the attractive grounds are an ideal location for recreation. “The facility has established a remarkable reputation for providing a great venue for quality shows and festivals, clean, beautiful grounds and down-home hospitality to performers, private renters and guests,” Nesbitt said. “The addition of the festival site

adjacent to the amphitheater complements the overall Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater by providing more space for large-scale events. Artists who have performed at Wolf Pen

Jewelry Store

2015

There are a lot of jewelry stores in our community. Why do you think that David Gardner’s won? Of course, we are extremely honored, but we are also a little relieved that we won again. As most business owners often do, our tendency is to focus on what we need to improve, often forgetting how blessed we are by so many friends and clients. We are grateful to be reminded by The Eagle readers that they think we are the best in this community. You’ve won The Eagle Readers’ Choice before. Is there anything that makes this year different? Much of the success of David Gardner’s Jewelers can be attributed to Dean Wile. Having lost our dear friend and work mate, Dean, last month, we’ve been particularly reflective regarding the

last 32 years. We were so blessed to have such an inspirational and talented man in our lives. Despite being confined to a wheelchair for all of his adult life, he never complained, nor was he defined by his disability. This remarkable attitude influenced the whole DG team and countless DG clients. It was just the three of us (David, Julia and Dean) when we opened David Gardner’s in 1983. It was in those early and often lean years, that our deep commitment to this community was established. The current DG team, now 20 strong, has the same commitment, fortified by Dean’s legendary selfless and “customer-first” mindset. What do you think sets you apart from other jewelry stores? We are hopeful that there are a number of things. David Gardner’s custom designs are one of the first

things that come to mind. David has a passion for creating pieces of jewelry for customers that reflect their unique personality. Additionally, we have quite a few exclusive brands, such as Rolex, David Yurman, Roberto Coin, Tudor, Magerit, Marco Bicego and Gumuchian. Our membership in the American Gem Society (AGS) is an important cornerstone of our business. Less than 5 percent of U.S. jewelry retailers are members of AGS, an organization that is committed to ethics and education. Three members of the DG team attended the annual AGS conclave this spring to learn about all of the latest gemstone treatments and developments, as well as jewelry and consumer trends. Part of our commitment to education and ethics is our five Certified Gemologists on our staff. Establishing trust is vital, and you can’t do that without staff that has gemstone and product knowledge. It’s a little uncomfortable to list what we think are our “merits,” because as we mentioned earlier, we are keenly aware that we are not perfect. We drop balls, we fail, but our heart is to always serve. You can have all the best jewelry and best systems in place, but what matters is taking care of people.

Pictured from left to right are: Julia Gardner, David Gardner and Dean Wile.

New Car Dealer, Auto Repair Shop, Oil Change, Auto Part Store, Used Car Dealer, Auto Salesperson

2015

Atkinson Toyota was voted the 2015 “Best Auto Repair Shop,” “Best Oil Change,” “Best Auto Part Store,” “Best New Car Dealer” and “Best Used Car Dealer” and “Best Auto Salesperson” for Don Lemon. Paul Atkinson, with Atkinson Toyota, attributed winning such accolades year after year to three things: people, processes and product. “It’s not about me,” Atkinson said. “We have the best people. They really care

about what they do.” Atkinson Toyota associates compose the dealership’s processes based on how customers would like them improved, and Toyota is a great product because of quality, dependability and reliability, he said. “It speaks volumes about our people and our processes,” he said about the dealership winning six categories in the 2015 Readers’ Choice awards. “It’s always humbling when the folks in your community

vote you the best.” The dealership has also won the “President’s Award”awarded by Toyota to the top 1 percent of Toyota dealerships in the United States - 16 consecutive years. It has also won Readers’ Choice and the Best of the Brazos Valley awards numerous times. Bobby Fitzgerald, General Manager for Atkinson Toyota, said “We must be doing something right.” Consumer confidence in the Toyota brand and in the automobile industry has picked up; 2015 will be a good year for the vehicle industry overall, and 2016 will be even better, Fitzgerald said. That’s because of a “huge, pent-up demand for a wide variety of reasons,” he said. People have put off buying vehicles because of a weak economy and a lack of confidence in the political arena and economy, and also because all manufacturers are building better vehicles that last longer, Fitzgerald said. The average car on American roads is 11.4 years old, he said. The increasing consumer confidence has been evident locally at Atkinson Toyota. “Our last few months have been phenomenal,” he said, adding that Atkinson has

been growing its stocking level of vehicles, as well as its staff. The Toyota brand is the leading manufacturer for miles per gallon, is safer than ever, and also has the hybrid Prius, Fitzgerald said. Atkinson said he had the opportunity to visit Japan, and learned why it’s an ideal place for manufacturing the “very best product.” The Japanese use a term, “kaizan” that means continuous improvement. “Toyota is about improving every single day,” he said. “That’s what sets them apart.” Atkinson Toyota has also held the “Repo Joe” sales for the last 14 years. The monthly used car event has become a big event with car shoppers and helps create new Atkinson customers each time. Atkinson said he has learned what it takes to have a successful business over the years. “Hire the best people you can, be very clear on their goals and objectives, give them the tools they need to reach those goals and objectives and get out of their

way,” he said, noting that the latter was the hardest part for him to learn. “Let them do their job.” Perhaps hiring the best people is why Don Lemon was recognized as “Best Auto Salesperson.” “I am on my 16th year with Atkinson Toyota, and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Lemon said. “I enjoy this community, the customers and the product we offer here at Atkinson Toyota.” Whether it’s from a new car sale, a Repo Joe event or an experience with their topnotch service department, Atkinson Toyota continues to win over people in the Brazos Valley. Atkinson and his team are right there with smiles on their faces, ready to help you however they can. “We’ve served thousands of customers,” Atkinson said. “We’re honored by the trust and loyalty they have in us, and we’re going to do everything in our power to continue to earn that trust.” For more information about Atkinson Toyota, including current inventory, visit http:// atkinsontoyota.com.

Best Bank

2015 Readers voted The Bank & Trust “Best Bank” in the 2015 Readers’ Choice competition, and bank officials believe that’s because of the employees’ superior customer service. Mike Holmgreen, the bank’s vice chairman/ chief deposit officer, said, “At The Bank & Trust, it is our people that set us apart. We have the best banking veterans in the business. Come see for

yourself.” The Bank & Trust offers a variety of financial products and services for both personal and business customers in the Brazos Valley. The Bank & Trust of Bryan/ College Station resulted from a merger of the $80 million Texas Enterprise Bank, chartered in 2006, and the Bryan/ College Station branches of The Bank and Trust of Del

College Station Banking Center

Rio, which began business in the market in 2009. As the community’s largest locally owned bank, The Bank & Trust finished 2014 with $427 million in assets, $42 million of capital and operating five banking locations. The bank’s management team consists of former owners, management and key personnel of the former First National Bank of Bryan. “Our mission is to be a significant financial provider for both individuals and businesses in our community by offering convenience, competitively-priced products and services supported by the latest proven technology and, most importantly, superior customer service,” Holmgreen said. “We operate by the Five Fs: fast, friendly, focused,

flexible and fair. Armed with banking veterans Tim Bryan, Ivan Olson, Jerry Fox, Nora Thompson, Joe Salvato, Cal McNeill, myself and others, we provide our customers the absolute best in a banking relationship.” Holmgreen commented on how bank officials are honored by the award, and continued by saying, “At The Bank & Trust, we are honored to have been chosen ‘Best Bank’ by our friends in the Brazos

Valley. “As the largest locallyowned community bank, we value this award and look forward to continuing to offer the best products, services and superior customer care to our customers.” For more information on The Bank & Trust call 979-260-2100 or visit www. banktbt.com.

Mariott Homes, Inc. won the 2015 Readers’ Choice award for “Best Home Improvement Contractor,” and the owner believes that’s because of a quality product, as well as the team members’ dedication to taking care of customers. Mariott Homes, Inc. is a family-owned business that specializes in building custom homes.

Best Buffet

2015 DoubleDave’s Pizzaworks was voted the 2015 Readers’ Choice winner for “Best Buffet,” and the district manager believes that could be because of its diverse -- but consistently fresh and tasty -food. DoubleDave’s services include: dine-in, pick-up, carryout, delivery, online ordering, a Monday/ Wednesday night buffet and a daily lunch buffet. Products include a salad bar, buildyour-own-pizza, specialty pizzas, world famous Peproni Rolls, Stromboli, sandwiches, buffets and desserts. Joseph Adair, district manager for DoubleDave’s Brazos Valley,

said customer favorites are the lunch buffet, Peproni rolls and the Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli. One way DoubleDave’s sets itself apart from the competition, Adair said, is by making dough and sauce by hand every day. “Fresh, local produce and quality meats round out our superb product,” he said. “We also set ourselves apart because we offer the services of all other pizza businesses combined. Some deliver and carry out, and some feature a buffet. We do it all. The amount of pizza we can pump out on a daily basis from all three locations is mind-

boggling at times.” Adair believes DoubleDave’s won “Best Buffet” because it offers “a consistent, yet diverse product.” The eatery offers a lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day, and always

for us is an honor. They are the reason we do what we do day in and day out, and their acknowledgement makes it all well worth the hard work.” Adair said DoubleDave’s started right here in College

He said DoubleDave’s staff members are always working to make web services smoother, quicker and more userfriendly. Future changes include continuing to offer exciting new pizzas with the pizzaof-the-month campaign, and DoubleDave’s is also working with Taylor Made Gluten Free bakery to incorporate a gluten-free option soon.

Physical Therapist

2015

Dr. Leon Bradway at the Sports, Back & Pain Management Clinic was voted the 2015 “Best Physical Therapist” for the sixth time. “This is such an honor to be voted a sixth time. My staff and I care so much for our patients and their well-being; this is a great confirmation of our efforts,” Dr. Bradway said. “This is fantastic recognition for all of the staff. I couldn’t do what I do without such dedicated and caring staff. Each and every member of the team goes above and beyond to ensure our patients are 100 percent better when they leave us.” When asked why he thinks he won the award, Dr. Bradway said, “I believe we won the award

because our patients trust us, they believe we will help them and they know what we do will make a significant difference in their lives.” He added, “They also want natural solutions to their medical problems, and we provide those solutions. “ Sports, Back & Pain Management Clinic, located at 2011 A Villa Maria Road, is a physical therapy clinic specializing in eliminating pain; preventing and treating sports injuries; and women’s issues. Specifically, Sports, Back & Pain Management Clinic helps people who have pain, dizziness or balance problems, injuries from an accident, headaches/ TMJ, pelvic pain, incontinence

and movement problems. They also help athletes young and old prevent injuries and increase sports performance. “Contrary to what many believe, physical therapy isn’t just massage, hot packs and ultrasound. We use passive modalities and exercise, but to a much lesser extent in my clinic. We have the advanced manual skills to do so much more to help patients achieve their goal naturally,” Dr. Bradway said. In fact, Dr. Bradway introduced Trigger Point Dry Needling to the Brazos Valley. He has been using this technique for over 14 years and has worked with experts both domestically and internationally. While this procedure is wellknown in Europe and Canada, it is relatively new in the U.S. The treatment is extremely effective in treating pain and promotes faster healing. Dr. Bradway said, “Many doctors were skeptical when I first suggested the treatment; now they refer patients because of the effectiveness of Trigger Point Dry Needling.” Dr. Bradway also performs Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography tests, has a

Master’s in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and over 30 years of experience treating a wide variety of patients, from adolescents to wounded warriors to retirees. With his experience, training and education, Dr. Bradway is able to accurately diagnose the problem and use the most effective treatment methods. The clinic’s website features many testimonials from previous patients, all from our community (bvphysicaltherapy.com). You can also join the Facebook page or sign up for a monthly email newsletter, which contains many useful articles, healthy recipes, information about changes in insurance rules and regulations and upcoming events. In closing Dr. Bradway said, “Everyone who comes to the clinic knows that each and every member of the staff wants to see them succeed. We view ourselves as their lifelong partners and stress the importance of taking responsibility for their health and wellness. We encourage questions and want to hear from our patients.”

outcomes. His first assignment was finding the finest post-graduate dental school in the world. He found LVI Global, short for the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Dr. Reece dedicated himself to taking course after course. Weeks of training began to add up to months of training, and soon, to years -- a pattern he continues today. The timing was perfect. LVI was changing the American dentistry practice by bringing the advanced science of neuromuscular dentistry into the classroom and making it available to dentists who wanted to progress beyond their basic dental school training. Soon Dr. Reece was on his way to becoming one of only 19 Master Dentists in the world. There are only two in Texas and 13 in the U.S. And in 2013, Dr. Reece was awarded LVI Global Alumnus of the Year. Patients love the results of his extensive training, knowing they have full access

Dentist, Dental Hygienist

2015

Dr. Michael Reece, DDS is unlike any dentist you have ever met. Dentists routinely travel from around the globe to learn his techniques. An average morning often includes dentists emailing from Australia or Canada asking his opinion. And if you ever wondered to whom dentists turn when it comes to their own dental care, look no further. Dr. Reece has become the “dentists’ dentist” to a growing number of his colleagues around the state and across the country. Which begs the question: how did this journey begin? Several years ago, Dr. Reece gathered his team and

announced he had made a decision to take his practice to a new level and create a worldclass destination for dentistry. Yes, there were a lot of questions, but the whole team was on board. They all knew it would be a challenging journey requiring them to go back to school to hone their skills and enhance their education. Dr. Reece’s practice was successful, but he didn’t want to spend his life as an average “drill and fill” dentist. He wanted to learn how far his own skills and those of his team could go in being able to perform the most complex cases, while achieving the best cosmetic and functional

to the latest techniques and equipment in the hands of a very highly competent team. Not one to rest on his laurels, Dr. Reece still starts each day

with a team meeting to go over the day’s cases and then by asking, “How can we better serve our patients today?”

Ob/Gyn

2015 Dr. Justin Gayle and his staff would like to thank the readers of The Eagle and his loyal patients for voting him “Best Ob/ Gyn” once again. Dr. Gayle, Texas A&M Class of ’87 and native of College Station, returned home in 1999 to practice medicine. His dream has always been to start his own practice, built on his and his devoted staff ’s core values and principles. In January 2015 Dr. Gayle opened his new practice, Genesis OB/ Gyn, at The Physicians Centre. Genesis Ob/

Gyn is a faith-based practice, providing advanced and high-

quality healthcare to women and families throughout the Brazos Valley. From routine obstetrics and gynecology, to advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, Genesis Ob/

Gyn can meet the needs of women in a warm and friendly environment. “Our goal at Genesis is to provide personalized care and develop lasting relationships with our patients,” said Donna Jo Mitchell, nurse manager at Genesis Ob/ Gyn. “With all of the changes that are taking place in medicine and the delivery of healthcare, we wanted to build a practice where the primary focus is on patient care and satisfaction, not the corporate bottom line,” Gayle said. He is also the first Ob/ Gyn to have an office located at The Physicians Centre, conveniently located at East University Drive in Bryan. Genesis Ob/ Gyn – a place for new beginnings. Audiologist, Hearing Aid Center

2015

Robert Herring, Au.D., audiologist and owner of Listen Hear Audiology Center is thrilled and honored to be chosen as the 2015 Readers’ Choice Award winner for “Best Audiologist” and “Best Hearing Aid Center.” Dr. Herring has now been in his new location at 3091 University

Drive, Suite 410 in Bryan for just over a year, and the practice has been able to grow and improve the quality for hearing health care delivery. “The new location is a wonderful place to go to work every day. The central location on University Drive has given more people access

to our services. Our new office is state of the art, comfortable and an excellent environment for helping those with decreased hearing,” says Dr. Herring. Listen Hear Audiology Center strives to maintain a high level of service, and that is what Dr. Herring feels sets his practice apart from others in the area. “There are many places to choose in considering hearing aids, but what is most important to most people is that they can trust their provider is doing everything possible to help them.” Hearing aids are not one size fits all, and there is a great deal of counseling to be performed in order for an individual to have a positive outcome. Understanding the hearing loss and having realistic expectations are key

components to success. From the warm smile and greeting from Kristine, the office manager, to the comfortable and professional service from Dr. Herring, the office visit is concentrated on the patient. Audiology and hearing aid services include: • Comprehensive hearing testing for adults and children. • Hearing aid evaluations and fittings. • Hearing aid repair and maintenance. • Custom hearing protection. • Specialized hearing testing for children including Auditory

Brainstem Response (ABR) and otoacoustic emission (OAE) testing. • Aural rehabilitation. Listen Hear Audiology Center and Dr. Herring are excited to be recognized as the Readers’ Choice Award recipient for “Best Audiologist” and “Best Hearing Aid Center.” Dr. Herring encourages all who have hearing concerns to do something about it, so they can live with better communication with family and friends. They were part of an agriculture group that pioneered the concept of winemaking in Texas. Today their son, Paul Mitchell Bonarrigo and his wife Karen continue the legacy of worldclass wines and hospitality with the same founding principles of family, tradition and romance. As a leader in the Texas wine industry, the Messina Hof brand has grown from producing 1,100 gallons to over 130,000 gallons of wine a year with three locations in Texas: Bryan, Fredericksburg and Grapevine. Messina Hof Winery &

Resort, at 4545 Old Reliance Road in Bryan, serves 90 award-winning wines; provides winery tours daily, sunset tours on Fridays and cellar tours on Saturdays. The Villa Bed & Breakfast is the only 4-Diamond Rated (by AAA™) lodging in the Brazos Valley, and The Vintage House Restaurant was recently named one of the “Top 100 Most Romantic Restaurants in America” by OpenTable™. It also hosts two annual festivals that feature grape stomping: the Wine & Roses Festival and the Harvest Festival, as well as several other private and public events. Messina Hof has grown considerably since its humble beginnings, and expects to produce 70,000 cases of wine nationwide this year. Brichler said their winery family feels blessed to have been part of the growth of the Bryan-College Station area, and are proud of the “Best Wine Selection” award. Liquor Store

2015

When the folks in College Station want to celebrate an event, have a backyard barbecue, watch the big game or plan a dinner party with the neighbors, they turn to Spec’s Wines, Spirits and Finer Foods, the 2015 Readers’ Choice Winner for “Best Liquor Store.” Since 1962, family-owned Spec’s has been providing exceptional savings on an impressive selection of unique finds for hungry and thirsty Texans. A vital part of their longrunning success has been their mission to make and keep customers happy. Spec’s takes pride in treating

customers like family, because Spec’s is, at its heart, a family business. Back on April 1, 1962, Carroll Jackson — affectionately nicknamed “Spec” because of his signature eyeglasses — opened the first Spec’s with his wife, Carolynn, in Houston. One day, Spec sketched a caricature of a bunny with glasses, symbolizing his quick, friendly service. People loved it, and it has been the Spec’s logo ever since. In less than 10 years, the demand for more Spec’s locations grew. The Jacksons’ daughter Lindy and her

husband John Rydman came on board in 1971, and just three years later, they introduced the largest selection of wines Houston had ever seen. Now with Texas’ largest selection of wines, spirits and beers at more than 100 locations across the state, Spec’s has truly become a destination shopping experience and a Texas institution. “We serve thousands of people in our stores across Texas,” said Lisa Rydman, third generation spokesperson, “And to stay true to my grandfather’s mission of keeping customers happy, our promise is to treat each and every one of you like our only customer.” So whether you’re a firsttime customer or a long-time fan, make sure you shop at Spec’s Wines, Spirits and Finer Foods for an impressive selection of unique products at incredibly low prices and a big helping of hospitality.

Hospice Agency

2015

Comfort is our specialty. Trust is our promise. Hospice Brazos Valley’s dedication to serving those with life-limiting illness is evident. For seven consecutive years, the organization has been recognized by a Readers’ Choice award. In business for over two decades, the non-profit organization has established a rich history of service with a commitment to caring for individuals touched by life-limiting illness, grief and loss. “Our organization is committed to providing comfort and establishing a deep sense of trust with our patients,” said Craig Borchardt, Hospice Brazos Valley President and CEO. “Last year we had the privilege of serving

over 1,100 patients. Each patient received quality care, care that was about hope, not dying.” Why we’re different Caring for those with lifelimiting illness is about more than treating disease. It’s about helping patients live life as comfortably and independently as possible by paying attention to such things as spiritual needs and relationships with others. Care is delivered by an experienced palliative care team, certified in hospice and palliative care. Hospice Brazos Valley has more physicians, nurses, aids and social workers certified in hospice and palliative care than any other organization in the Brazos Valley, exceeding the national average in such specialization.

“Hospice care helps patients achieve meaningful and productive lives with many living longer than expected,” said Borchardt. Quality care and a track record of serving the community for over two decades set the organization apart from its competitors. As the only non-profit hospice in its 17-county service area, Hospice Brazos Valley is community owned, which compels staff members to put patients and their families first in everything they do. In 2012, Hospice Brazos Valley opened the first hospice inpatient facility serving the Brazos Valley. The seven-bed facility is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care for hospice patients needing acute care, and places the organization at the forefront of providing specialized services, tailored to the needs of patients and families. Hospice Brazos Valley also features outpatient palliative care for patients with chronic, nonterminal illness. The program seeks to help patients and their families understand the valuable role palliative care plays in improving quality of life and guiding decisions about treatment

options. It also seeks to educate clinicians about the full scope of palliative care services and work with other healthcare professionals and service providers to care for patients in non-hospital settings. Borchardt said he believes Hospice Brazos Valley won the “Best Hospice Agency” award because it provides the best hospice care in the area. “We welcome the

invitation to serve. The Readers’ Choice Award not only affirms the care we provide, it honors the health care partners who assist us,” Borchardt said. “We are grateful to the community and accept this award on behalf of our patients and families, staff and volunteers, and everyone who supports our mission.”

Cellular Provider

2015

From hotspots and wearables to the Internet of Things, in which everyday items interact with each other, AT&T’s presence in Bryan-College Station through the years has helped to ensure the city has access to the latest technology, the nation’s most-reliable 4G LTE network. The company’s local

associates have ensured that by continually providing the unique gear and service solutions that residents, students and small businesses need to stay connected. That dedication to serving the consumer has earned AT&T its ninth consecutive The Eagle Readers’ Choice award for “Best Cellular

Provider.” “AT&T is honored to be recognized in The Eagle Readers’ Choice Awards again this year,” said AT&T Area Retail Sales Manager John Farrell. “It is especially gratifying that our customers have given us this vote of confidence for nine years in a row. We are proud to be part of this community and are looking forward to serving Bryan-College Station now and in the future.” AT&T’s 4G LTE network now covers 308 million people. Its network investments have resulted in rapid innovation across the entire technology ecosystem – software services, cloud computing, mobile apps and connected devices

– changing how people live, how businesses run and how economies grow. AT&T is also improving its local distributed antenna systems (DAS) at Kyle Field, where game-day attendance can create significant demands on a carrier’s wireless network. During 2014’s game against Ole Miss, for instance, 110,631 attendees packed Kyle Field and set the single-game attendance record for Texas A&M. These enhancements to AT&T’s DAS network should help AT&T

improve customers’ access to wireless connections during Aggie games. Last season fans used more than four terabytes of data on the in-venue AT&T network. Four terabytes is equal to about 11.4 million social media posts with photos. Real Estate Office

2015

Century 21 Beal, Inc. focuses on Top Block customer service for buyers and sellers of the Brazos Valley, as well as helping their Realtors develop careers worth having. They truly care about their customers, clients, Realtors and staff. That’s likely why The Eagle readers voted the company as the “Best Real Estate Office” again in this year’s annual Readers’ Choice awards. Century 21 Beal, Inc. has been serving Bryan/College Station since 1946. Mike Beal and Susan Hilton have helped their agents build strong real estate careers through ongoing training and support. They have taken the company to the top of the market in both sales and exceptional customer service.

“Helping our clients buy and sell real estate and meeting THEIR goals is the cornerstone of Century 21 Beal, Inc. Some clients want to be called often, some only want emails and some want text messages every day; yet EVERY client wants communication and to be kept up to date regarding their real estate sale or purchase. Every client deserves exceptional service and a knowledgeable agent and EVERY client is important to us. Our Realtors have many years of training and experience, and they employ that to help buyers and sellers buy and sell in the Brazos Valley,” said Beal. What sets Century 21 Beal apart from the competition is the attitude and experience of its

management team, Realtors and staff members. Century 21 Beal, Inc. consistently sells more real estate in Bryan-College Station than its competitors because of the caring attitude, education, knowledge and the professionalism of the Realtors and staff. “After 68 years in real estate, many things have changed in the real estate industry. One of the biggest challenges is how fast things are changing. There is a great need for continual education. While technology is also an important part of our business today, a caring attitude, constant communication and knowledge are the key,” Beal said. Century 21 Beal, Inc. has a culture of quality customer service and continues to receive multiple quality service awards from Century 21 International year after year. They are consistently recognized with the Quality Service Pinnacle and President’s Award from Century 21 International.
“We are very proud for our team and grateful to the community for this award,” Beal added. For more information on Century 21 Beal, Inc., call 979-764-2100 or visit www.century21bcs.com.

Home Care

2015

Home Instead Senior Care in Bryan won the Readers’ Choice award for “Best Home Care,” and the owner believes that’s because employees genuinely care for their clients and work hard daily to continue improving. Home Instead Senior Care provides in-home care for seniors. Owner David Gest said, “We don’t do what we do for the awards and glory. We do it because we genuinely love what we do, and try hard every day to be better than we were the day before. Home Instead Senior Care enjoys great brand awareness as a global company who is actively changing the

face of aging. We operate in all 50 states and throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.” He said the incredible, experienced CAREGivers and office staff are what set the business apart from competition, and are the reason Home Instead won the award. Home Instead Senior Care opened in 2002, as a way to offer seniors the chance to age in their own homes. Gest said that was important because he’d seen first-hand the difficulties of caring for aging parents. CAREGivers are all carefully screened, licensed and bonded, and complete a

vigorous criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen and the renowned CAREGiver Training Program. Home Instead has no minimum visits; employees work with seniors from one hour a month to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “We feel that our services offer solutions to entire families – not just the clients themselves,” Gest said. “We assist with light housekeeping, medication reminders, personal care, meal preparation and transportation to allow seniors to be where they need to be, when they need to be there. It is important to remember that Home Instead helps to provide the socialization that many elderly people want and need. In addition, we are very well known for our extensive work with people afflicted with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.” Home Instead Senior Care has specialized training for CAREGivers who work with Alzheimer’s clients, and

teaches a free abbreviated Alzheimer’s course to people who are providing family care for their loved ones who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s. Gest said the Home Instead

team was honored by the award. “It’s always a great honor because it demonstrates the love and compassion our team has for seniors in the Brazos Valley,” he said.

Financial Planner, Stockbroker

2015

Wade Myatt, CRPC ®, Senior Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in College Station, focuses on relationships with each client, and he believes that helped him win the 2015 Readers’ Choice “Best Financial Planner” and “Best Stockbroker” awards. “I give each and every one the attention they deserve, from the smallest to largest,” said Myatt. “I work incredibly hard to gain and keep their trust over time. There are many great choices and many great firms and products out there that clients can pick from, so I strive to be

there for them at all times”. Myatt recently received his Chartered Retirement Planning CounselorSM designation, which he feels gives him even more knowledge and tools to guide his clients going forward. Myatt said Merrill Lynch is a premier wealth management firm, which is why he joined the firm in November 2012. Myatt started in the brokerage business in early 1997. “They (Merrill Lynch) offer the best strategies, technology and scope for me and my clients,” Myatt said. “The research is outstanding, so when I make a

recommendation, I feel I have the best minds in the financial world backing me up”. Myatt helps individuals and their families pursue their financial goals by creating and implementing wealth management strategies for things such as retirement, education, insurance, estate planning and gifting. He also helps companies and employees manage and navigate the many complex retirement plans that are available and find the best one for their needs. He then helps clients maintain a disciplined investment process so they can achieve their retirement goals. Myatt said his business has grown steadily over the years, and he has been through some of the toughest market cycles in history, which helps him keep a “calming influence” with clients during uncertain times. “My portfolios have a conservative tilt that try and smooth out the crazy swings along the way,” he said. “We all want to make the big returns, but, frankly, it’s a lot about

keeping what you’ve worked so hard to build over time. My job, many times, is to try and keep clients from getting too emotional in tough times and making bad decisions. Sticking to their plan and staying disciplined is how they achieve the goals they have set for themselves.” This is the sixth time Myatt has won the Readers’ Choice Award, which, he said, is extremely humbling and makes him extremely proud.

“I have the greatest clients in the world. We have great relationships, and I so appreciate them taking their time to vote for me,” Myatt stated. Myatt also gives a lot of credit to his Registered Client Associate, Charlee Miller, for taking care of daily administrative duties and making things run smoothly. “I couldn’t do it without her,” Myatt said. “We are a team.”

After 10 years, the second location on Harvey Road was added. The restaurant has also expanded to include a menu with enough variety to satisfy any hungry appetite. Park Hudson Place Apartments won the 2015 Readers’ Choice award for “Best Apartment Complex,” and the community manager believes that is because of dedicated staff members who are committed to taking care of residents. Park Hudson Place Apartments, at 4050 Pendleton Drive in Bryan, first opened in 2008, and new management took over this year. The apartment complex has spacious, attractive apartment homes that include special touches such as laminate wood flooring, oversized garden tubs and washers and dryers in each unit. It also offers some of the finest amenities in the area, such as the on-site business center and resort-style

Seelve believes The Eagle readers voted Park Hudson as “Best Apartment Complex” because of “years of experience, a dedicated office staff and a prompt maintenance team that is committed to our residents.” Staff members were excited to win the award for a second time; the first time was two years ago. “We were thrilled to win back in 2013, but we are overjoyed and honored to be this year’s winner,” Seelve said. Oncologist

2015

Aggieland Cancer Treatment Center is honored to be selected as the “Best Oncologist” of the Brazos Valley for the fifth time in the last six years. We thank our patients for their votes and confidence in our ability. Located on the campus of the College Station Medical Center Hospital on Rock Prairie, the Aggieland Cancer Treatment Center was founded in 2007 by

Dr. Bobby Bains, a board-certified radiation oncologist. It served to address the need for local and regional cancer care. Local access to quality care can simplify the logistics and expense associated with traveling out of town. While living at home during therapy, patients have better access to their support networks during this challenging period. The three things that set the facility apart

are technology, expert staff and personalized care. The center provides access to a full gamut of modern oncology services. In addition to external beam radiation therapy, the facility also provides the only high dose rate brachytherapy in a 60mile radius. Since the facility is independent, it has the freedom to refer patients to the best available specialists without being forced into “internal-referrals.” All staff adheres to the centers motto of “Care you need, compassion you deserve!” While the staff is trained on the technical aspects of rendering care, they go far beyond that. The staff will guide patients from the time of diagnosis through the completion of treatment and on to post-treatment surveillance. Patients and families are directed

to available community resources as needed. Assistance to navigate the confusing world of health insurance is provided. The staff develops close relationships with their patients and values them as family. Some features that patients really like are same-day appointments; 15 minutes or less wait times for treatments; direct access to the medical personnel, even on evenings and weekends; and personable/ affable staff that value patients’ time. Aggieland Cancer Treatment

Center continues to prosper and grow because of the positive recommendations of patients to their family and friends. We hope you never have a need for our services, but if you do, be confident that you will be well taken care of at the Aggieland Cancer Treatment Center. A sincere thank you to all our patients who voted us the best! For more information about us, please check our website: www.RadiationTreatments.com.

Physician

2015

Bobby Bains, MD, of Aggieland Cancer Treatment Center, is a board-certified Radiation Oncologist who serves as medical director of the Aggieland Cancer Treatment Center. Dr. Bains credits his selection as “Best Physician” to listening carefully to the desires and wishes of his patients. He is quite humbled and very appreciative of patients who took the time to vote. “We use a Patient-Centric Quality Care Model that focuses on the needs of each of our patients and their family throughout their course of therapy. I present to my patients all available options and engage them in their health

care decisions. This makes it easier to choose the best therapy options,” Dr. Bains said. “The chairman of my residency training program at the University of Miami used to tell me, ‘The secret of patient care is to actually care for the patient. Once you do that, everything else falls into place.’” What sets us apart from other centers is our focus on patient concerns. We make a commitment to patients and their families to help guide them throughout their entire journey to recovery. If needed, we help coordinate ancillary and home health services from within the community. Most of all, we don’t stop caring when

the treatment finishes. We follow our patients closely and monitor their long-term wellbeing. Our patients always have direct access to our medical professionals and staff. Having a good patient-physician relationship leads to greater compliance and better overall health. Dr. Bains employs that concept to guide his patients through the difficulties of cancer. We believe patient education is a necessity, not a luxury. We want patients to be provided with their full slate of options before they select a treatment plan. We help patients and families select the appropriate therapies for their lifestyle and wishes. Dr. Bains states that having an excellent staff helps make his job much easier. A sincere thank you to all the patients and families who voted for Dr. Bains for this award. Patio/ Outdoor Dining

2015

Customers of Ozona Grill & Bar in College Station associate the restaurant with the relaxed patio atmosphere. So do The Eagle’s readers, as the local hot spot won the 2015 Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Patio/ Outdoor Dining.” Named after a famous West Texas town, the menu at Ozona Grill & Bar was inspired by traditional Texas and border cuisine. The College Station Ozona is the second location for the popular restaurant. The original Ozona opened in 1992 near SMU in Dallas. The Dallas

Ozona’s trademark was its patio dining areas, often regarded as the biggest and shadiest in the city. In 2003, Ozona expanded to College Station, bringing that same outdoor experience to Aggieland. Ozona has a patio that is a home away from home, and it’s ready for the summer. The restaurant’s general manager, Brian Morris encourages customers to swing on by for great weekly lunch and drink specials and to check out the new menu, featuring all the Ozona favorites and a few new

items as well, such as Salmon Tacos. “Ozona provides a unique dining atmosphere to the B/CS area,” Morris said. “We believe we have the largest, shadiest and most natural patio environment in town. We try to combine that with a casual and fun atmosphere that can be enjoyed while watching sports, listening to live music or simply relaxing over brunch, lunch or dinner.” With the relaxed patio atmosphere and variety of happy hour specials like “Working Women’s Wednesday,” it’s not hard to see why Ozona Grill & Bar is a popular place to find people unwinding at the end of a tough day. “Year after year we continue to offer a comfortable atmosphere along with a diverse menu of homemade food, and a large selection of drinks; Ozona fulfills everyone’s burning desire for a good ol’ time,” Morris said. He added that Ozona staff members enjoy seeing guests smiling and enjoying themselves

while dining there, and seeing them leave happy so they will be ready for a return visit. Ozona is pleased to add “Best Outdoor/Patio Dining” to its list of accomplishments the past five years, and Morris thanked those who voted for the bar and grill. “We are honored to be recognized by our guests in this way,” Morris said of Ozona’s

Readers’ Choice win. “We are proud of the service we provide, and are so appreciative of our customers. Thanks to everyone that thought of us!” So stop by Ozona Grill & Bar at 520 Harvey Road and kick back with your friends and a big plate of nachos and enjoy the best happy hour on the best patio in town.

Meat Market

2015

Readfield Meats & Deli was voted “Best Meat Market” in the Brazos Valley, and for more than 50 years it has been regarded as the best butcher shop in the hearts and minds of many loyal customers. Readfield Meats & Deli is a family owned and operated business that was founded in 1960 by the parents of the current owners, Richard, Larry and Roland Ruffino. The business has grown from a small meat market on North Bryan Avenue in Downtown Bryan to its current location on Texas Avenue, with the big, red cow in front. Through the years, the store has grown and developed into a multi-service food center

that provides a unique shopping experience for its customers. Readfield’s meat market carries a full line of fresh meat products, including aged, USDA Choice and Prime Chairman Reserve Premium Beef, MidWest Pork and Texas Poultry. Other meat products include lamb and veal. Readfield Meats & Deli is also known for its own award-winning smoked meat products, including sausages, turkeys, beef jerky, bacon and hams. Specialty fresh sausages: Italian, breakfast pan, bratwurst and Polish, are popular items, also. Ready to cook, seasoned items include marinated brisket for barbecue and marinated beef and chicken breasts for

fajitas. Grilling favorites include Chicken Diablos (seasoned chicken breast, jalapenos, cheddar cheese and bacon) and Rattlesnake Eggs (fresh Polish sausage, cream cheese, jalapenos and bacon). The deli offers fresh deli meats and cheeses sliced to order, as well as in-store-made tuna, chicken and pimento cheese salads. Custom-made sandwiches, including muffulatta and Italian style hoagies, are on the menu. Customers can order custommade deli trays, including meats and cheeses, vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, cookies and brownies. In-store baked fruit pies and artisan breads are baked daily. Rotisserie baked chickens are available, as well. The grocery department stocks an extensive selection of imported pastas, olive oils, tomato products, olives and cheeses. An interesting collection of both domestic and imported wines is also available. “It’s an honor to be reassured that we’re doing our job well,” said Mr. Ruffino. “We pride ourselves on our quality and

Chicken, Children’s Meal, Fast Food

2015

Chick-fil-A® is proud to be recognized for the “Best Fast Food” in the Brazos Valley for the ninth year in a row and also the “Best Children’s Meal” and “Best Chicken.” The operators and team members would like to thank their guests for their loyal support. Chick-fil-A® has been serving the Brazos Valley for over 32 years. During this time Chick-fil-A® has sought to serve customers with tasty, wholesome food, quality customer service, and a

pleasant dining environment. This recognition means a great deal to all who are a part of the Chick-fil-A® family. The staff is pleased to see their efforts recognized by the customers. Their goal is to seek new and better ways to meet and exceed customer expectations of the business. Celebrating over 50 years in the restaurant business, the Atlanta-based chain is the nation’s largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain based on sales. Credited with

inventing the boneless breast of chicken sandwich and being the first to introduce the concept of chicken nuggets, Chick-fil-A® has continually sought to serve nutritious and freshly prepared food in its various locations throughout the country. Closer to home, Chick-fil-A® is available at Briarcrest Drive and Freedom Boulevard in Bryan, at Texas Avenue and Harvey Road in College Station, at Highway 6 off William D. Fitch Parkway in South College Station, and at two Texas A&M campus locations. This year, in keeping up with customer demand, Chickfil-A® continues to refine the menu to offer freshly updated options to serve a wide variety of tastes. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is now marinated with a special blend of seasonings and grilled for a tender, juicy backyard-grilled taste, and is served on a toasted

multigrain bun with lettuce and tomato. The Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich adds Colby Jack cheese and applewood smoked bacon to the mix. The grilled nuggets

are now also marinated with a special blend of seasonings to achieve the same rich backyard-grilled taste as the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Other updates to the menu are

the addition of blueberries in the Fruit Cups, catering fruit trays and the Grilled Market Salad. Complete your meal with a delicious handspun milkshake. Look for your nearest Chick-fil-A® today, and taste why it was voted “Best Chicken,” “Best Children’s Meal” and “Best Fast Food Restaurant” in the Brazos Valley! 2015

For the ninth year, Celebrity Spa & Salon won several categories in the 2015 Readers’ Choice Awards, including “Best Beauty Salon,” “Best Day Spa” and “Best Nail Salon.” Individual awards went to: Laura Atkinson Wagner, “Best Hairstylist” and “Best Boss,” Viola Milazzo, “Best Massage Therapist;” Maria Sanchez, “Best Nail Technician” and Ashley Fitzhenry, “Best Receptionist.” Celebrity Spa & Salon in College Station’s destination offers a complete range of services designed to relax, restore and rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. Wagner, Leah Lucas, and their mother, Cindy Atkinson, took the reins of Celebrity Spa & Salon in 2006. They have been making improvements ever since, and the accolades have continued to pour in. Lucas said, “We are thankful to our guests and talented professionals for contributing to the awards and recognition we have received. The entire team at Celebrity operates under one philosophy: Make every guest feel like a celebrity from

the moment they walk in the door to the moment they leave. We roll out the pink carpet for each of our guests.” Wagner, “Best Hairstylist,” has been in the industry since 2003, and is a Toni & Guy trained specialist, a Redken Certified Colorist, a Redken Master Specialist and a certified Pureology Specialist. She enjoys making her guests feel great about themselves, and also prides herself in educating future generation stylists. Maria Sanchez has worked with Celebrity the past two years, and was “Best Nail Technician” both years. She is a certified Cosmetologist, but her passion is in nails. She has also recently added eyelash extensions to her repertoire. Viola Milazzo, “Best Massage Therapist,” brings healing, comfort and rejuvenation to each individual according to their needs. “Every massage that I give is done with the utmost care and concern for my guests,” she said. “To be honored for doing something that I love is such a wonderful

feeling.” Ashley Fitzhenry, “Best Receptionist,” was honored that customers voted for her. “Working in the service industry has made me realize how amazing the residents in Brazos County are,” she said. “Working at Celebrity Spa & Salon has been the most rewarding experience, and I am truly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful company.” Wagner has also won “Best Boss” for the past two years; the category was added last year. Wagner is a senior stylist and lead educator in the Associate Program. She is passionate about her business and is committed to excellence and ensuring that each employee does his or her best. “We have reached our level of success because of our amazing guests who continue to support us and spread the word about their experiences in our salon,” she said. “But we also want to thank our talented staff who work so hard and really pull together to create that Celebrity experience our guests come to expect.”
