A NEWSLETTER FROM THE BDBMC F E B R U A R Y

From the Executive Director: As you know, the new contract between the Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) and the County Commission was executed in December, 2013. In compliance with the contractual obligations, the BDBMC delivered its first quarterly report on January 30, 2014. The 360 page document was a comprehensive overview of all activities, programs and services from October through December. I had the opportunity to present a formal presentation to the BOCC at their February 11th Board Meeting summarizing the report and answering questions from Commissioners. Overall the information was well received and the BDBMC will continue to update the Commission, the BDBMC Board and residents of Martin County on all activities of the organization. For your review, I have included a year to date summary of the BDBMC’s scope of service in this newsletter on page 4 and 5. The month of February was a very busy time for the BDBMC as indicated by the information provided in this newsletter. I did want to highlight the upcoming Job Fair on April 9th being held at Indian River State College’s Chastain Campus. The BDBMC has secured nearly 40 companies participating in next month’s event and I encourage all of you to promote the job fair in an effort to “put people back to work”. More information about participating companies and location can be found in this newsletter. Thank you for your support of the BDBMC and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments at tim@bdbmc.org or contact the office at 772.221.1380.

Festival of Arts The 13th Annual Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts, presented by Nightingale Private Care was held on February 1 and 2, 2014 from 10:00AM to 5:00PM along Dixie Highway in Hobe Sound. Admission and parking were free. Shuttle service was provided from the parking lot of The Pine School. The BDBMC staff attended both days as part of our community outreach efforts. The Festival featured outdoor, gallery-style exhibits spanning four blocks of A1A/Dixie Highway starting at Bridge Road and continues south on AIA and Dixie Highway. Included in the festival was a green market with local vendors and a children’s area with interactive art and craft activities and games that engaged the youngest of festival-goers.

Showcase of Career Academies Hundreds of students and their families explored the Martin County School District's Career and Technical Education program offerings at the annual "Showcase of Career Academies" on Feb. 11 at South Fork High School. The free event was a wonderful opportunity for parents and students, particularly fifth and eighth grade students, to learn more about the many Career Academies offered by the District, so they can make informed choices as they prepare to enter middle and high school.

Sites and Buildings, Market Data and LSTAR Presentation The BDBMC in partnership with FPL and the Growth Management Department of Martin County , gave a presentation highlighting some of the great features these companies have to offer. The event was attended by approximately 30 business people ranging from attorneys, to realtors to the City of Stuart to bankers. To learn more on how commercial realtors can list their Martin County sites, please contact Jill Marasa at 772-221-1380.
