A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR ROBERT J. LOVERO, CITY OF BERWYN

Greetings Neighbor,

I hope the Berwyn Community enjoyed the 2024 holiday season! As we embark on the New Year, I want to remind residents of the wonderful projects we have been working on for the community. The new Berwyn Senior Center and Community Multi-Purpose Artificial Turf Soccer Field will be completed and ready for residents to enjoy in the summer of 2025. While we work to build our city, Berwyn residents can also rest assured that my administration is highly focused on public safety and ensuring our first responders are well supported and equipped to keep the Berwyn community safe.

As we all inevitably age, older adults and their families are struggling to bridge the gaps between work and retirement, full independence and limited support, good health, and chronic conditions. Senior centers are instrumental in bridging those gaps and our vision for this space is to build a center catering to Berwyn’s Silver Community (55+ years of age) as a place to socialize and access important resources so we may continue to thrive as a community. My office is available to answer questions and receive feedback on the progress and programming for the new senior center by email at mayor-website@berwyn-il.gov or by phone at (708) 749-6541.

The Berwyn Community Multi-Purpose Artificial Turf Soccer Field will break ground this spring. When completed, the field will be multi-use for soccer, lacrosse, and baseball to be used for both adult and youth sports. The world-class league-certified multipurpose athletic field is designed for optimum performance in a wide range of community sports and competitions.

Keeping Berwyn a safe and thriving community for all is of the utmost importance. Please be sure that our law enforcement agencies are steadfast in their commitment to maintaining public safety in Berwyn. Their constant selflessness, professionalism, and training provide the reassurance that our families can feel secure under their watch. I encourage all residents to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhood to the police department by dialing 9-1-1. Residents can always stay informed by signing up for our Emergency Alert Program at member.everbridge.net/1332612387831845/login.

I look forward to 2025 and the continued growth of Berwyn!

Sincerely, Mayor Robert J. Lovero

EMPOWERING LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS: THE ROLE OF THE BERWYN CHAMBER

Entrepreneurship is the backbone of thriving communities. It sparks innovation, creates jobs, and strengthens the economy. Chambers play a key role in supporting entrepreneurs by providing resources, advocacy, and networking opportunities. These efforts help local businesses overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Resources

One of the fundamental ways chambers support entrepreneurs is by providing access to critical resources, including educational workshops. For example, the chamber hosts sessions on key business topics or digital marketing, equipping entrepreneurs with the tools necessary to compete in today’s fast-paced markets. Additionally, we maintain directories of trusted local service providers, making it easier for entrepreneurs to gain new business.

A Partner for Success

The chamber is more than just a support system—it’s a vital partner in the entrepreneurial journey. By providing advocacy, resources, and connections, chambers empower local entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles, seize opportunities, and achieve long-term success. Our success is defined by the partnerships we build. We achieve this by demonstrating the value our collaboration brings to empower our members to succeed.

2025 UPDATE TO OGDEN AVENUE

Ogden Avenue, from Harlem Avenue to Lombard Avenue, is home to many diverse businesses that call Berwyn home. To support local businesses and residents, the City strives to keep up to date with infrastructure improvements. As one of these projects, Odgen Avenue, is slated for improvements this year. Utilizing American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, the City will be replacing and upgrading the water main and sewer infrastructure, as well as replacing the lead water service lines to the businesses along Ogden Avenue.

The City is kicking-off the construction phase this spring and will be coordinating work to minimize the duration of impacts to businesses and motorists. Berwyn recognizes the balance between making infrastructure improvements and ensuring businesses thrive.

The project team will keep those impacted by the construction apprised of details and will continue to inform residents and businesses through construction.

BERWYN SENIOR CENTER COMING SOON!

On December 12, 2024, city officials, stakeholders, and residents came together to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the Berwyn Senior Center. Located at 3310 Grove Ave, this space will be renovated with Berwyn’s Silver Community (55+ years of age) in mind.

Specifically, the center will be a local hub for the Silver Community, offering them a location to both socialize and access timely resources. Expected to open in the Summer of 2025, the Berwyn Senior Center will feature:

• An open layout for special events

• New audio and visual systems

• Upgraded restrooms

The upcoming center will also house the City of Berwyn’s engineering team and senior services offices.
