Joint Statement
A Norwegian-German-partnership for the green energy transition
Joint Statement by NHO and BDI on a Norwegian-German-partnership for the green energy transition
Neither European energy security nor European common climate targets can be met without considerably scaling and speeding up the green transition. German, Norwegian and European climate targets are very ambitious and can only be achieved in close cooperation between countries and in partnership with business. The Norwegian and German industries are ready and committed to contribute to this goal.
As we are closing in on 2030, there is a great sense of urgency to speed up the deployment of green technologies and solutions to facilitate the transition to carbon neutrality, in parallel to fast-tracking massive investments in infrastructure. Both Norwegian and German industries call for adequate policy frameworks and incentives.
BDI and NHO recall the close industrial partnership that realized the development of the North-Sea gas grid. Similar partnerships are urgently needed to fasten the green transition. In particular, partnerships between Norwegian and German companies and governments are necessary to build the energy infrastructure of tomorrow and to mobilize the required financial resources. We need solutions, and we need them fast.
A North Sea grid will connect us as like-minded partners and trigger the vast offshore wind and green hydrogen potential. In parallel we need to further develop the natural gas infrastructure for carbon management, including CO2 storage and utilization, and decarbonisation with blue hydrogen. However, without incentives and risk-sharing between companies and governments there is no business case today.
BDI and NHO call on the German and Norwegian governments to provide the necessary framework to speed up the energy transition. We are convinced that Germany and Norway will not be able to fulfil climate ambitions without close cooperation and risk-sharing with business. Industry is ready to engage in partnerships with policy makers and institutions to realize energy security and the green transformation. Without bundling our efforts, Net Zero is not within reach.
