FLORAL WAVE BRACELET by sarah millsop YOU WILL NEED Click on the materials to choose yours - Your chosen size of seed beads in two colours - Matching bead for clasp 8mm - Beading thread - Beading needle Before you begin… As with lots of beadweaving tension is important, in this instance you need to work with a loose tension. The looser you work the more obvious the wave will be. This design is worked in flat evencount Peyote meaning the wave effect is created at the end. Step 1 Thread a needle with 180cm of beading thread. Form a ‘stop bead’ by stringing a single bead. Go through it a second time, taking care that you don’t pierce the thread. It is important that the bead will slide along the thread as it is will be removed at the end. Position the bead 30cm from the end – this tail will be used to add the clasp later. Step 2 Pick up 4B and 2A and slide them along to the stop bead. The very first bead you are stringing is indicated on the chart in blue and, as you can see it is actually in the second row. Step 3 Pick up 1B and go through the 5th bead strung in step 2. Pull the thread through so that this new bead sits on top of the 6th bead. Step 4 Pick up 1A and go through the 3rd bead strung in step 2. Pull the thread through so that this new bead sits on top of the 4th bead. Step 5 Pick up 1B and go through the 1st bead strung in step 2. Pull the thread through so that this new bead sits on top of the 2nd bead. You’ve now formed three rows. Each row having three beads. Position your work to that you can follow the chart below.

Step 6 Begin the fourth row by picking up 1B and going through the bead just strung in step 5. Pull the thread through so that this new bead sits on top of the very 1st bead. The bead sequence to finish this row is 1A then 1B. You are essentially filling the gaps between the beads in the previous row. Step 7 The fifth row is formed in the same way. Refer to the chart below for the colour sequence. The blue bead indicates the very first bead you strung. Step 8 Follow the chart until you have worked 16 rows and have exited the 4th bead of the flower as shown on the chart in red. As you can see we’ve turned our work around so that the first flower is at the top. Pick up 2A and go down through the 1st and 2nd bead of the flower. Step 9 Then go up through the 3rd and 4th bead of the flower. You’re now back to where you started in step 8 and ready to begin the next row. As shown on the chart the 17th row begins with 1B. Continue until you have the desired length less about 3cm to allow for the clasp. When you need to add new thread, weave the old one loosely into the work, knotting a couple of times and add the new one in the same way. Step 10 When you have the length you want don’t tie off the thread; you may want to add additional rows after the next step as the beadwork shrinks in length. Thread a needle with 80cm of thread. You need to work with a double thickness so run the needle along to the middle. Bring the two ends together and add a stop bead 15cm from the end. Pass the needle diagonally up the first zig-zag. Before pulling the needle through, confirm you’ve passed through all the beads by turning the work over. Step 11 Continue passing up and down through the beads that form the zig-zag, pulling tightly as you go. This will form the wave shape and tighten up the loose beadwork. Check the bracelet for length and add additional colour B rows if needed at either end. To secure the wave, weave the free ends of this double thread into you work, knot a couple of times and trim. Step 12 To form the loop part of the clasp, rethread the original single thread and string 23B. Pass the needle through the 4th bead going in the same direction as you came out of it. Go around the ring again to reinforce. String 3B and go into the beadwork on the opposite side as indicated with the arrow. Weave the tail into the beadwork, knot a couple of times and trim the excess. Step 13 Form the other end in a similar way. String 4B, your single large beads, 1B. Skipping the last B go back down the pearl and through the 4th B going in the same direction as you came out of it. String 3B and go into the beadwork on the opposite side as indicated with the arrow. Weave the tail into the beadwork, knot a couple of times and trim the excess.
