Hello! Hi! My name is Katie, I'm the photographer and marketing assistant at Beads Direct. I will be taking over from Holly and become the editor of Shine Online. I'm from Leicestershire and I absolutely adore anything to do with dogs! So please send in photos of your doggy projects for me to see. I have a black Lab named Smudge some of you might have seen on our Facebook page. She will be overseeing all my work, checking for spelling mistakes and bones, so if any slip through, it's her fault!!! Along with dogs, I'm an enthusiast of the arts. I enjoy to paint in my spare time and also love going to concerts. My favourite colours are blue and purple. I'm a Pisces and I like to watch scary movies. French Flower Brooch Designed by Sarah Millsop Learn how to make this festive flower brooch perfect for Christmas!
MATERIALS: BEADING LEVEL
28 gauge or 0.32mm wire size 11 seed beads - Red - Green 6mm pearls or Swarovski Faceted Round Beads

Chain nosed pliers Flush cutters
STEP 1 - Petal (make 3) String 20cm of red beads onto the spool of wire. Make a 5-row Basic. Pointed top and pointed bottom. Start with five basic beads on the top basic wire. STEP 2 - Petal (make 3) String 30cm of red beads onto the spool of wire. Make a 7-row Basic. Pointed top and pointed bottom. Start with six basic beads on the top basic wire. STEP 3 - Petal (make 3) String 50cm of red beads onto the spool of wire. Make a 9-row Basic. Pointed top and pointed bottom. Start with 8 basic beads on the top basic wire. STEP 4 Petal and leaf (make 3 of each) String 60cm of red (or green) beads onto the spool of wire. Make an 11-row Basic. Pointed top and pointed bottom. Start with 8 basic beads on the top basic wire. STEP 5 Centre (make 1) Cut 30cm of wire from the spool. String a pearl and position it centrally on the wire. Bring both wires together immediately below the pearl and twist twice. Repeat, adding a pearl either side of the first. STEP 6 Bend the 5-row petals just below the beads. Twist the stem three times to make a single piece. Twist the other two 5-row petals together. Twist these pairs into a single piece 5 or 6 times. STEP 7 Cut a 50cm piece of thin wire and attach it to the back of the flower. Bend the 7-row petals just below the bead. Position a petal against the flower and wrap the 40cm wire once around the stems. Repeat to add the other 7-row petals. STEP 8 Attach the remaining petals in order of size. Add the leaves last. Wrap the 40cm wire four or five times around the stem. Cut the wire and press the cut end down with flat nose pliers. To make a Poinsettia brooch: STEP 1 Make the following - 3 x 5 row basic pointed petals, 4 x 7 row basic pointed petals, 2 x 9 row basic pointed petals STEP 2 Make your centre feature with the 3 beads as normal. Attach each of the petals by wrapping 3-4 times around your centre bead stem. Try to keep this tight and high to the beads. You may wish to trim away each petals excess wire when you are happy it is secure. This will give you a neater finish. STEP 3 Wrap your stem around the brooch back in the centre. STEP 4 Wrap your two leaves either side of the flower by wrapping the wire around your brooch back.

ANGEL PENDANT STEP 1 Place the 12mm Swarovski Artemis bead or large bead onto a headpin. STEP 2 Then add your angel wing, along with the pearl bead and the halo Rondelle if required.

STEP 3 Cut your headpin to size and create a loop using jewellery pliers. Using jump rings attach the angel to chain, earrings or keyring.
