Step 1. Thread a needle onto about 120cm of thread. String the following beads: 16x seed, 1x4mm pearl, 1x seed bead, one side of your toggle clasp and 1 more seed bead. Position 15cm from the end of the thread. Pass the needle back through the pearl and the seed beads taking care not to spear the thread as you go. Pull the thread through so that the single seed bead comes up against the pearl. Step 2. String the following beads: 1x pearl, 9x seed, 4x pearl. Go through the first pearl of the four you’ve just strung, going in the same direction – avoid spearing the thread. Once you’ve gone through the first pearl pull the thread most of the way through. Then push this pearl up against the seed beads and pull the thread the rest of the way through. This will ensure there is no thread showing. If it’s easier lay the bead work on your bead mat. The next photo shows how they should sit. Step 3. String 9 seed beads then go through first 4mm pearl strung in the previous step. N.B. to avoid confusion in the remaining photos we’ve woven the short tail into the bead work. You can do this too if you wish or leave it till later. Knot the thread to the work and add a dab of glue if desired. Step 4. Pick up the following beads: 7x seed, 1x pearl, 6x seed. Pass the needle through the third seed bead strung in the previous step. Step 5. String 2 seeds and 4 pearls. Form the pearls into a diamond as you did in step 2. String 9 seed beads then go through first 4mm pearl strung in the previous step. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until the necklace is about 4cm shorter than the desired length. You’ll need to add more thread as you work so stop when you’ve 15cm of old thread left and secure to the work with a slip knot then weave into the bead work. Reverse the move to add the new piece. Along your design you may need to add more thread. To do this, weave your remaining thread back into your beadwork, knotting along the way over the thread holding the beads, and securing it inside your past work. Trim off any excess when you are happy it won't unravel. Take a new, long length of thread and reverse the process, starting a couple of inches into the design and weaving outwards towards where you finished adding beads. Then continue your design. Step 6. Once your necklace is as long as you'd like, exit the last top pearl and add 16 seed beads, a pearl, 2 seed beads and the other half of your clasp. Thread back down through the pearl and continue through your work. Thread through your necklace, zig-zagging to lose your thread within the beads. Create knots along the way to secure further and continue to hide your thread until you think your clasp will stay in place securely. Feel free to cut a new long length of thread and reinforce the two clasp ends, repeating the process of weaving around the design to secure.

Step 1. Take a 60cm (24") length of thread and add a needle to one end. Thread on 4 x Swarovski square two hole spike bead and 4 x size 11 seed beads alternately. Thread through them all again to make a loop and knot the two ends together to secure this loop. Step 2. Threading out of a spike bead, change directions by threading through the outer hole of the same bead. Pick up a 1 x size 11 seed bead, 1 x 3mm Swarovski faceted round bead and 1 x size 11 seed bead. Thread through the next spike bead through the outer hole. Step 3. Repeat this between all 4 spike beads. Step 4. Thread through the first seed bead you come to, before a faceted round bead. Pick up 3 x size 11 seed beads. Miss out the faceted round bead and thread through the next seed bead and the next spike bead. Step 5. Thread around to the opposite side of the loop and mirror this pattern so there is 3 seed beads on the top and bottom (image 5). Step 6. Thread around the circle again and thread to the 3 x seed beads you just added at the top of your design. Thread through the first 2 seed beads over the top of your faceted round bead. Step 7. Pick up 1 x seed bead, 1 x 3mm faceted round, 7 x seed beads. Step 8. Thread back down through the 1st of the 7 seed beads, the 3mm faceted round and pick up 1 x seed bead. Thread through the same seed bead you exited from on the design (image 6). Step 9. Now you can secure your working cord and tail cord into your design. Thread around the bead work making small overhand knots along the way until you are confident that both threads are secure and won't unravel. Feel free to reinforce the topmost loop of seed beads and any other parts that may need more thread. Trim off the excess thread when you are happy. Step 10. Finally, open a jump ring and thread on an ear wire. Attach the jump ring onto the seed bead loop at the top of your bead work. Repeat this for your other earring.

Pantone notes that purples have long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons such as Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Take a look at some of our favourite purple materials and get creative in 2018!

Simple Seed Bead Macrame Bracelet 1. Take a 30cm length of cord and pin it taught to your surface as shown in the first image. Cut a new length of cord measuring approx. 60cm. Thread this under your shorter cord to the halfway point so you have a length on either side. 2. Make a full macrame knot (follow the diagrams below to learn how to make a knot). 3. Thread a seed bead onto the thread on the left and right sides. Make a half knot to secure the beads in place on either side of the centre cord. 4. Make a full macrame knot, not including the half knot you just made with the seed beads. Continue this pattern until you have knotted 12cm of cord. 5. Secure the last knot by adding glue on either side. (Image 2) This will take time to dry and secure depending on the glue you choose. You can also use a clear nail polish if you don't have any glue. Once it is dry, trim off the excess cord. 6. Take either end of the centre cord running through the knots and cross them over and pin in place. (Image 3) Cut a new 20cm length of thread and make a 4cm section of macrame knots over the two threads. 7. Secure the last knot by adding some more glue, making sure that it doesn't soak through to the 2 centre cords. These need to move through the knots to make the bracelet adjustable. Trim off the excess cord when the glue is dry. Finally, add a bead onto each end of the cords and make a knot below them to hold them in place.

Take your designs further by adding beads onto your central cord or by making spiral macrame knots! To make a spiral macrame bracelet, simply repeat the first half of a macrame knot over and over, and the knots will twist.

HOW TO MAKE A MACRAME KNOT Pin down a centre cord shown at the vertical line in the images. 1. Take your longer cord and thread it to the halfway point underneath the pinned centre cord. Take your left hand cord over the centre cord. Next, take your right hand cord and place it over the left cord. Move the right cord under the centre cord and up through the middle of the loop on the left side. 2. Pull to finish half of your knot. 3. Repeat this process on the opposite side by starting by crossing the right hand cord over the middle cords. Then take the left cord over the right. 4. Take the left cord under the centre cord and up through the loop on the right side. This is one full macrame knot.
