ROSE BLUSH KUMIHIMO BRACELET

Step 1. Cut 4 lengths of cord measuring approx. 100cm each. Step 2. Holding all 4 cords together, fold in the middle of the cords and knot together creating 8 ends. Place the knot through the hole in the centre of the braiding board. Spread the cords, placing them at the top, bottom, left and right on either side of the dots, in the notches of the braiding board (each cord in a notch is called a warp). Step 3. Onto the 2 bottom cords and the 2 top cords, thread on approx. 36 seed beads onto each of the 4 threads. Next, onto the remaining 4 threads on the left and right sides, thread on 12 seed beads, 12 bicones and 12 more seed beads. Wrap each cord into its own no-tangle bobbin. You may want to add a weight to the knot in the centre to help your braid pull downwards and keep tension as you work. Step 4. You should have a warp either side of dot 32 at the top. Take the warp from the notch to the left of dot 16 (at the bottom) and move it straight upwards to the notch to the left of the two warps at the top. You will now have 3 warps at the top and one at the bottom. Now take the warp furthest right at the top and bring it down to the right of the remaining bottom warp. Turn the braiding board 90 degrees counter-clockwise and repeat the same process, moving the bottom left warp to the top left, and the top right warp to the bottom right. Repeat until you have approx 1cm of your braid that will be glued into your clasp. Step 5. Start moving beads down your threads into the braid. Each bead you move down will go under the first horizontal thread you come to and between the two threads before you continue to move the thread to the top notch. Image 3. Repeat this again with the next cord you move downwards. Image 4. Step 6. Turn your board and repeat the pattern, adding a bead at a time. Image 5. Step 7. Continue to braid after you have used all of your beads and finally create a 1cm braid that will be glued into the clasp. Step 8. Remove cords from the notches and knot together so the braid doesn’t unravel. Now wrap some cotton or thread tightly around the braid just below the knot, and sew through the braid a couple of times to make sure it is securely fastened. When you are happy that you have secured the braid; take some sharp scissors and cut off the knot. To complete, check that the end of your cord fits into your cord ends. Glue each end into the clasp using fevi kwik, and leave to dry. Trim this down so that it is covered when you glue it into the cord end. Add a drop of glue into the cap and push in your cord. Attach your lobster clasp to one end of your cord and connect a few jump rings to make an extension chain at the other end. I chose to thread 3 seed beads onto the last jump ring to finish my bracelet off.

Step 1. Cut a length of thread and add a needle to one end. Thread on 3 x white seed beads, one of your ear wires, and 3 x white seed beads. Thread through a large pink Swarovski faceted round bead and thread around this circle of beads again. Knot the thread and the tail thread together. Step 2. Thread out of the crystal and pick up 2 x white seed beads, 7 x twin hole beads and 2 x white seed beads. Thread through the crystal and knot to the tail thread again. Step 3. Thread through the first of the 2 seed beads, pick up 2 more seed beads and thread through the second hole on the twin hole. Add a pink seed bead between each twin. Pick up 2 white seed beads after the last twin and thread through the 1st seed bead closest to the pink crystal to match the other side of the petal shape. Step 4. Travel back around the petal shape and thread out of a pink seed bead. Pick up another pink seed and thread through the next seed bead so it sits on top of the twin hole bead. Do this 5 times. Step 5. Travel back around the petal shape and exit through the 1st of the new pink seed beads you added in step 4. Pick up 2 twin hole beads and thread through the next seed bead. Do this 4 times. Step 6. Finally, travel back around the petal, and add a single seed bead in the centre of each of the twin hole pairs. Weave your thread back into your beadwork, knotting along the way until you are confident it won't unravel. Do the same with your tail thread and trim off any excess cord.

Step 1. Cut four 65cm pieces of monofilament. Tie them all together right at one end with an overhand knot. Make the knot bigger by tying a second knot over the top. Thread all four strands through a calotte and a single seed bead. Add a dab of clear nail polish or glue to the knot and close the calotte around it. Trim off the tails flush to the calotte. Step 2. Separate the strands into pairs. Onto each pair thread four seed beads. Add a pearl by passing the pairs of strands through it in opposite directions. Step 3. Take a strand from each pair and thread a single pearl onto them. Add another pearl by passing the two strands through it in opposite directions – pull tight. The two unused strands will be used to add the montees decoration later. Step 4. Add further pearls in the same way until you have the desired length – 40 pearls will make a standard size bracelet. Finish by adding four seed beads onto each strand then pass both strands in the same direction through a single seed bead. Add a bit of sticky tape across the strands to prevent the beads coming off. Step 5. Now go back to the unused strands. Onto one strand, string three seed beads, a montee and three seed beads. Take the strand diagonally across the bracelet then pass it through the middle pearl. Step 6. Onto the other unused strand, string three seed beads then pass it through the montee making sure the montee is the correct way up. Step 7. Onto the same strand, string three seed beads then pass it through the middle pearl. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to add the rest of the montees. Step 8. At the end of the bracelet pass the two strands through the seed beads added in step 4. Thread all four strands through the back of a calotte. Check there are no gaps between the beads then tie the four strands in a loose overhand knot. Use a pin to guide the knot into the centre of the calotte. Tie a second knot, add a dab of clear nail polish then close the calotte around it. Trim off the tails flush to the calotte. Step 9. To attach the clasp to the calotte, open a jump ring. Grip it either side of the join with pliers then using a twisting motion bring one hand towards you and push the other away so that the ring opens just like a gate. Pass it through the loop on the calotte and slip on the clasp. Close the jump ring using the reverse action. Add a single jump ring to the other end.

CRYSTAL SHIMMER WRAP BRACELETS Designed by Joy Wignall

Click here to make your bracelets and get all the materials you need >>

24

To make each of your bracelets, follow the instructions below to wrap your choice of beads onto your cords and finish with your chosen button and charms. Cut 120cm length of leather and thread button to the middle, secure both ends to a bead board, I use crocodile clips with a small piece of felt to protect my work. Cut a 50cm piece of S-Lon cord and place the middle section under the leather approx. 1cm from the button, create 7 full macramé square knots. Leave the s-lon after the last knot to finish at the end. I find it easier to lay out the beads before I start. The order of beads for your leaf charm wrap bracelet is black diamond, green gold, black diamond, blue spike, black diamond, green gold, black diamond, chrome spike, repeat until all 12 spikes have been used, then one more tila set. This makes a bracelet 13.5 inch to 15.5 inch with three fasteners. For your simple wrap bracelet with rondelle beads, simply add the same rondelle beads along the design. With the leather still fastened to the board and the button on the right, cut a double arm span of thread and add a needle, then tie on to the leather nearest you with a double knot, near the end of the macramé. Take the needle under both pieces of leather, thread a tila bead on and sit it between the leather then bring the needle over the top leather and back towards you through the tile hole, go back through the same hole again by going round and under the front leather, through the hole, over the back leather and back to you. Now go under the front leather and through the second hole of the tila bead then under the back leather, over the leather and back through the tila bead, repeat this again. After the second pass add another tila bead and repeat. Go through each hole front to back twice for strength. The Spike only has one hole but still go through it twice before adding the next tila. When all the beads have been sewn on go back through the last hole one more time and create a couple of half hitch knots between the leather and the bead. Repeat the instructions creating another 7 full square knots. Tie an overhand knot in the leather near the end of the macramé then another overhand knot approximately 1 inch away, making sure the button will fit through the hole, then another overhand knot a further inch away. Tidy up the bracelet by making sure the macramé ends are pulled tight then cutting them off or using a thread zapper, you can add a tiny dab of fevi kwik or clear nail varnish on the ends if you want to be sure it is secure. Do the same for the KO thread. I like to finish my wrap bracelets with a charm and a couple of simple wrapped loop beads or crystals attached to the bracelet on a jump ring between the first knot and the macramé.

Follow the quick step by step instructions below to make your pretty heart bracelet for Spring. Step 1. Decide on the order you want to attach your hearts onto your chain and lay them out on your work surface next to your chain. Step 2. Count the amount of large links along your bracelet chain to see how many hearts you will need to use. For our bracelet we had 20 links so we used 20 jump rings and all 20 hearts. Step 3. Take a jump ring and open it carefully using flat or chain nose pliers. To do this, turn the pliers away from each other in opposite directions to open the ring. This twists the ring open. Don't try to pull the join apart as it will lose the form of the ring. Step 4. Hook your jump ring through your first heart charm and then hook the same ring through the first large link on your chain bracelet. Step 5. Close the jump ring in the same way as you opened it, making sure that the two sides of the ring touch together when it is closed. Step 6. Repeat this method of adding your heart charms along your chain, adding a single heart onto each of the links. Once you have added all of your heart charms along the bracelet, your finished design is ready to wear!
