SPRING is in the air Easter, Prom and all things Spring 1
letter from the EDITOR
HELLO &
DAUN LESS I want to encourage you this month to embrace change. Embrace the dying of one thing to see the life of another. I know this is something that is easier said than done and most people run from change. But change is so important in our lives. It helps us to move on from hurt. It helps us to find new things that may bring us joy or success. It helps in so many ways. Maybe you have been sensing an urge to make a change. Well, this is the sign you have been asking for. Go for it. Take that hard first step and see what awaits you on the other side.

I Want
to Know What
Love Is By: Lauren Dennison

G
od speaks to us in a way we can understand. He builds on our individual likes,
experiences, and giftings. He communicates with us individually, and He uses our interests to reveal His nature to His children. If we look and listen discerningly, we can see that He is in constant communication with us. He is a loving Father who never misses an opportunity to speak into our lives. He has a direct connection to our hearts. I had a moment of connection with Him recently. As I was listening to the Oldies station, my mind was on autopilot, mindlessly singing along. But suddenly, autopilot switched off, and I heard every word clearly, as if the song was speaking directly to me. The song is by Foreigner, written by Mick Jones: “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Thinking about love can take you down a path you no longer want to walk. Memories of love can remind us of the hard lessons of life that we are determined never to repeat. I looked up the lyrics and read them aloud as if hearing them for the first time. There was a message here that I wanted to hear with my heart, not just my ears. “I want to know what love is. I better read between the lines; in case I need it when I’m older.” Our first teachers of love – as wonderful as we may believe they are – are other broken, incomplete folks. As the Book of Romans states, “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” But the God who created this complex universe is the designer of true love. And we were created to connect our heart to His; we are created to love and be loved by Him. There is no greater love than the love He has for us, His children. One of the most profound lessons I have learned about love is that other broken folks can’t fix our lives or heal our hearts! Only the master Creator, the Designer, knows what love truly is. Only He is fully capable of reviving our hearts and healing all the broken places and pieces. But what is love? It has been redefined by the world to be all about self. How many relationships are based on how the other person makes us feel, or what they do or give to us? However, our greatest living example of love is selfless: Jesus. As he walked through His life both on and off the cross, He died to self.
20
“Love is not a burden that we place on the shoulders of another broken soul; it is found in Him. His love never disappoints, never fails. He will never leave us or abandon us.”
21
Receiving God’s love is rooted in knowing who we are and what we are created for. Mick Jones, in writing this hit song, was looking for truth. He obviously had been through relationships that failed. He had been through experiences that left him disillusioned and feeling empty. The lyrics tell us that he was still trying to understand love! As Christ-followers, understanding true love – God’s love – gives us strength to make choices out of His love, not our own selfishness. His true love, which never fails, has the power to restore our broken hearts and lives. We live in an imperfect world full of imperfect people, so our love outside of God will fail, but the love that God has for us doesn’t fail. Our circumstances can be devastating at times, but if we know that our identity is found and rooted in the God who created us, and if we carry understanding of the love of Christ for each of us, then we are equipped to keep on keeping on. When we face defeat in body and soul, and when the enemy says there is no hope, His love holds us steady. Mick Jones said the following in an interview about this song: “Don’t know where this song came from…probably written by a higher force” (2014). I think one line of the song reflects that: “Through the clouds, I see love shine; it keeps me warm as life grows colder.” We serve a mighty God, and He is all around us, speaking to our hearts. He is not limited to a particular person or place – only to the condition of our hearts. Are our hearts open or closed? Listen! He is speaking. Believe! For it is out of our relationship with our Creator that we find love as it is meant to be: freeing and strengthening. Love is not a burden that we place on the shoulders of another broken soul; it is found in Him. His love never disappoints, never fails. He will never leave us or abandon us (Hebrews 13:5). When we “know what love is” and that knowledge is firmly planted in our beings, then we can truly love and receive love, and we will never lack. “Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again’” (John 4:13-14).

Getting Dressed Up for Easter & Prom By Karissa Hagemeister
This month is the start of many special occasions that will last us through the year. We have Easter service where everybody wants to wear their best dress. We have proms, special events and galas. We are also stepping into the season of weddings and baby showers. It is a time to celebrate and a time to buy new clothes! If you are like me, you love every opportunity to buy a new outfit. I have already been scoping for a new Easter dress and seeing what other events I may have coming up that I can get a new outfit. I’m going to take the time in here to go over some different trends as far as prom dresses for 2022 and some different styles and how they work on different body types. Prom Dresses 2022 The prom dress styles that have been coming out for this year all have a a few things in common. First they are long, fitted gowns and the second they all have slits that come up to the thigh. Many just have one slit on one leg but some have slits on both legs. This gives the dress a little bit of an easier approach to walking, wearing and having fun in. Some of the popular trends have the long gown in the slip but they also create kind of a mermaid flare at the bottom. However, no matter what is trending, buy something that you like and that you will be comfortable in. I have linked some of my favorite prom gowns below that can be worn not only for prom but also for a special events and galas coming up this year. Body Types and Dress Styles If you are searching for a more formal or a fancy type of dress for any event this year or next here is a little guide to help you find the best outfit for your body type and body shape. There are basically five different body types as we transform from girls to women. Some may call them by different names but what here are the main names and how you can figure out what body type you are. There is the hourglass body type. This body type has around the same measurements and size of chest and hips, but with a smaller waist. So the body shape tends to mirror that of an hour glass. There is the rectangle body type. This body type is about the same measurements all the way down (chest, waist and hips).

There if the circle body type. This body type is a little bit bigger in the waist area than in the other areas of the body.
There is the right side up triangle. This body type has a bigger waist and hip area, with a smaller chest. The last body type is the upside down triangle. This body type has a bigger chest and waist and smaller hips.
There are not only different body shapes but there also different heights. Some women are petite, some are tall and then there are what they call average woman. We are all ranging from different body types and different body heights. Now let’s talk about some dress styles. If you were getting married or going to a fancy event you may consider a plethora of different gowns. Here are some of the most common styles: ballgowns, sheath dress, empire waist dress, mermaid dress and a line dress. Ballgowns look great on every body type except for the circle body type. The sheath dress, is a long, loose fitting dress (maxi style). It goes all the way to the floor but it doesn’t really poof out at any place. This type of dress looks really nice on hour glass and rectangle body shapes. Then there is the empire waist dresses. These dresses have the waist starting right under the chest and are loose flowing down to the floor. These dresses look great on all five of the body types. The mermaid style dress which is fitted all the way through and flows out at the bottom is perfect for hourglass shape and the right side up triangle shape. Lastly, an A line dress looks great on all body shapes.
The tricky part comes in with petite and tall women. With longer dresses, petite women will most likely have to get the dresses taken in by a tailor. Ball gowns and mermaid style dresses are going to be much more difficult to tailor for height purposes. Hopefully, these styling tips help you as you are choosing some beautiful dresses for your events this year. Here are some links to my favorite Easter dresses and Formal Gowns: Easter Dresses:
