letter from the EDITOR

Hello

BEAUTIFUL & DAUNTLESS,

March is an exciting month. For many it brings the start of a new season. For me, and those of us in the United States, March begins the season of spring. With the start of spring comes the start of new and fresh, growth and life. For those that have been stuck in the cold and have been freezing for the past few months, the spark of sunshine is a greatly anticipated welcome. I love the start of a new season, especially spring. Green replaces the brown, dead grass and twigs that have cluttered the earth’s floor. Flowers and dancing weeds begin to mingle with the fresh, baby blades of grass. Growth and new life begin. I don’t know about you but I am hoping for some growth and new life of my own this month and this season. Many of you know that I made a big leap of faith moving to NYC in January. I came here to grow as a person and to give myself the opportunity to grow into all that I was made to be. I wish the same for you, to experience growth in the areas that you want it most. XOXO,

Karissa Hagemeister 2

Hello loves! By a show of hands, who adhered to last month’s directives in taking and implementing the needed steps in becoming the authentic you since being reminded that BeingYou Works? Kudos darlings! I love seeing the sea of hands stretched towards the heavens! As I tenderly design another love note, “The Power of Your Voice” resonates throughout me. And after much reflection, it dawned on me that one of the most invaluable, yet, influential accessory you showcase regularly is your voice. So I ask you, “what are you speaking and talking about”? Is it costly...making you either an asset or a liability? Reflect on it please. Is your voice lucrative and sophisticated as it was intended to be; to be an effective resource held in high regards in planting seeds of love, peace, joy, laughter, unity and/or empowerment amongst your fellow brothers/sisters, community or even within yourself? A voice that fashionably reveals the quality of your character, integrity, morals and training... all uncompromising traits.

12

13

Or sadly, is your voice causing you to be a liability? Cheap, yet, taxing weeds of ignorance, hatred, envy, selfishness and pride killing the “life” of others, values and ideas that ostentatiously unveils insecurity, fear, doubt, mediocrity, immaturity...and do I dare say vileness and division too? Your voice. Yes, your voice-is either producing life or creating death. For example, as a PK (Preacher’s Kid), from my spiritual training, I learned early on from Proverbs 18:21 (King James Version) that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” You can talk whatever “it” is into existence. Whereas on the flip side, with that same disbelief and fervor, you can talk “it” out of existence too. Same ideology stands true from a carnal sense, I internalized from my teachers, mentors and friends/their parents that whatever you say enough of-eventually it will manifest. Keep telling yourself you can/ can’t and you will/won’t. Reminisce back on something(s) you were readily told you could or couldn’t do...nine times out of ten the fruit of what was spoken was embraced by you and your outcome was in accordance to what was

14

talked into you or down to you. Simply put-you reap what you sow. Your truth, be it good or bad-whatever you deem it to be will show fruit. So again, I ask you, “what are you speaking...sowing into existence that is leading to the priceless creation of you? Everything you need to BE, already lies within you but also rests in your mouth! From a Fashion sense, Fashion is the conduit that houses and carries Style. Along with Style being the catalyst that showcases the essence of Fashion. And, the same can be said for the magnitude of your voice when “speaking” of knowing the power of your voice, knowing how your voice is identifying you amongst others and the important role it plays when being yourself...in the purest form because Being You Works! Dominican-American Fashion Designer, Oscar de la Renta, eloquently said it best, “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.” So, as you continue on your journey of authenticity...let Style be your Guide and Voice-because there is power in your voicespeak accordingly! Naurah

Bio / Inspiration Naurah USA is an Indo- Western Ready to wear and custom made clothing line launched by Ayesha Khanna who is a well known choreographer and the Founder & Director of Bollywood Funk NYC Dance school. The brand was launched in 2017 with the vision to expand and diversify from original Indian Couture line based in India since 2001.

Having lived in New York for over a decade but with her roots in India, Ayesha dabbled with the desire to create a brand that fuses her love for fusion , whether it be in dance or fashion. She realized that the general perception about Indian clothing is that it is heavy and can only be worn on occasions such as weddings or festivals. As an entrepreneur living and working in nyc, she felt most women she met , chose to stick to dark colors and western ready to wear brands limiting traditional outfits to those “once a year festive occasions only. For years, she yearned to dress in beautiful outfits that reflected her Indian heritage but were practical for someone living in the US. She felt there was a gap that needed to be filled . Finally she chose to trust her creative instincts to create a brand for the passionate, inspirational women of today who are always hustling. A clothing line that was beautiful, unique yet wearable.

Our Process Naurah focuses on creating niche pieces customized for their discerning clientele. Inspired by the collections that were exclusively privy to the royalty and royalty alone and thoroughly researched from the archives to absorb the best from the past, these then were fused with the modern trends to create designs that have caught the imagination of the fashion conscious. Hence our tag line - “Traditional Threads. Modern Trends” At Naurah USA “less is more” is the philosophy to life with a traditional weave that is a refreshing contemporary take on classical Indian silhouettes. The modern woman would rather dance the night away in these feather-like light apparels and still feel special. In NYC, where Black is the color for a night out, we choose to present a colorful yet stylish approach to dressing up. Why do we have to blend in, when we can stand out?

29

We love to use traditional staples like goergette, chiffon, chanderi, brocade, silk, and cotton but give them a signature and a fresh treatment so the clothes don’t fall short on the fun and whimsical factor. Our mission is to make our customers feel unique in these garments. Looking good starts with feeling good and that is what we love to focus on while putting together a dream outfit.Like we say to our clients, Make EVERY DAY an occasion to make a style statement. Each design we create, can be customized to some extend keeping the clients preferences in mind. We want customers feeling proud wearing a piece that is exclusively made for them. With this goal in mind, we strive to make every version of the original design a little different, better, lets just say more “You. Follow us Instagram - @naurahusa Facebook-@naurahusa

Ms. Beautiful Susie Squire March 2018

Hi, I am Susie Squire, deaf since birth but I have had a cochlear implant since 1997. I can hear and speak pretty well. I have a bachelor degree in Theater/Music from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, and a master degree in Business Administration from Carson Newman University, Jefferson City, TN. I am also a Actors, Models, and Talents for Christ (AMTC) 2017 Winter Grad. Since AMTC I have been in two movies and my goal is to have a speaking role in a movie! Also I have been writing and directing my own plays for the deaf for years. I am now writing my own screenplays for the three movies that I want to produce and direct in the future. Even though I am deaf, I LOVE music and have been writing my own songs for years too! I am also American Sign Language (ASL) singer and a ASL music director. I have some ballroom dance experiences and want to be on “Dancing With The Stars” some day. I am so thankful that the Lord has blessed me with three gifts singing in American Sign Language (ASL), acting, and teaching. The verse in Mark 10:27 - “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God” really sums up my life! 38

Mr. Dauntless Magazine

Mr.

DAUN LESS Matthew Burney is thankful to be able to find a profession that he genuinely enjoys, and can have fun in the midst of it all. His style is rooted in a deep, passionate, and lifelong commitment to the arts, putting his heart into every endeavor he takes on. He’s a New York resident with two degrees: one of them coming from Dutchess Community College with an Associate Degree in Fine Arts, while studying Performing Arts, and the other one is from Long Island University, Post Campus with a Bachelor’s Degree (BFA) in Fine Arts, while studying Musical Theater. He concentrated in acting there. Matthew also has voice training and started to get into modeling as well. In his last semester of College at LIU Post, he decided to join the fashion club on campus, Runway, and absolutely fell in love. He felt so comfortable walking the runway and fit in with the other models. Mr. Burney is also an AMTC Grad of SHINE 2017, showcasing a monologue for film, and also modeling for lifestyle at the NY/NJ hub. He found a new love and appreciation for modeling that he never knew existed, and wanted to take it on professionally, as well as acting. Matthew doesn’t like to sell himself short, and is always interested in adding more skills and tools to his belt. Always! 44

Protien comes in many forms. Complete protien gives your body all the amino acids that it needs. Incomplete protien does not. Complete protien can be found in animal sources such as fish, eggs, chicken, beef, ect ... Incomplete protien is found in vegetables and fruits.

50

PROTIEN hat You Need to Know Protien powder is most commonly used by athletes to build their muscles. The three most common protien powders that are used for protien shakes are whey, soy and casein, whey being the most preferred because it disolves the best in water. Whey is also considered a complete protien so it contains all the nine amino acids that your body needs after a great workout. Vegans prefer soy protien powders to the others, however the taste is normally not as appealing and it does not disolve as nicely in water. Protien shakes are not always necessary because you can get the complete protiens that you need from eating the right diet. However, there are certain cases when taking protien shakes are going to benefit you more: when you are going through growth spurts, upping your workout game, recovering from a sports-related injury, beginning a new work out program or switching to a vegan lifestyle. 51

ABOUT DAUNTLESS The second half of this magazine is now being taken over by guys, for guys. Since the creation of this magazine, January 2017, we have excelled at offering real life stories, advice and insight into daily matters. Our writers share what is on their heart in order to bring some life to your current situation. Up to this point, much of the material has been more “lady focused” but we hate to leave out our male counterparts, as they need special rays of light to impact their life as well. In May 2017, after receiving much feedback from males asking for more content geared towards them, our wheels started turning. We came up with the idea of having the dual magazine, but we need a name. After conducting a poll on social media, we were given some insight as to what a guy might prefer to be thought of as, and DAUNTLESS was the winner. Below are a few of the reasons as to why Dauntless is now the name of the second half of our e-mag. So, gentlemen, as you are reading, think of yourself in these terms:

“Dauntless means, ‘I am BOLD, COURAGEOUS, and GALLANT. Which trumps all other choices. IMHO.” - Larry “Dauntless for sure. Dauntless means, ‘Showing FEARLESSNESS and DETERMINATION.’ That is how I would like to be defined.” - Arman
