Hello Beautiful, March marks the beginning of Spring. March 20th to be exact. I love spring, especially the beginning of spring. The flowers releasing beautiful aromas, the birds sharing their joyful hearts song and the warmth of the sun flooding in from the windows. These are all such beautiful reminders that the cold winter is leaving and new life is beginning. Living in Florida, I get to experience spring earlier than most but I also have to jump into the intense heat of summer much quicker. Spring is always so much fun to me. It reminds of me of floral and bright fashions. I teamed up with Stylist, Kayla Kapp to offer some sweet spring finds for this issue (see cover and style spread). Spring break is also right around the corner. This means first of the year trips to the beach. Spending time with friends and family. The days are getting longer. We also have St. Patricks Day and, later, Easter. So there are festivities and fun for everyone to enjoy. But I think one of the biggest reasons that I enjoy spring so much is that it signifies the end of something cold, dark and dreary: winter. It offers hope for a new, bright and warm beginning: spring. Just as we experience seasons with the weather, we also experience seasons in our lives. We go through happy and bright seasons, where we are growing just like the beautiful flowers in my front window. We also go through dark, painful seasons where we do not see a light at the end of the tunnel and we are tempted to give up hoping. But we should NEVER lose hope. Just as the seasons are changing right outside your door, they will change in your life as well. The darkness will only last for a season. As spring approaches, take heart in knowing that the painful times will only last so long. Spring is in the air and new life is beginning for you, beautiful. XOXO,

Karissa Hagemeister

Living Your Design By Yahaira Morales

My intention is to create a community of support and inspiration where we can learn and grow together! It is my desire to help you discover your design, connect with your passion, and develop your skills so that you may fulfill the purpose for which you have been created.

Have you ever stopped to look at a painting where different colors beautifully intertwine to create a masterpiece that people can’t stop admiring?

I am talking about a piece of art where every color is carefully and intentionally chosen as vital to create that image that inspires, refreshes, or even liberates! Now, imagine that

11

painting in your mind (whatever you want it to be, in my case: a deep and vast ocean with intense shades of blue that meet with majestic green mountains full of life and challenges to conquer).

Sadly, many people go through life not knowing their true color and the purpose for it! I truly believe that you have been created in purpose for a purpose. God has created you with a unique design for a specific task in the time you haven been placed here on earth and He has given you a color that compliments that design.

Tell me, what would it look like if only one color covered the entire painting? How inspiring or even attractive would it be if each color was in a place that it doesn’t belong in? How would that image would look?

Your passion, values, dreams, skills, talents, strengths and even weakness are part of that

Your Color TRUE Discover

color. When we’re not totally aware of our true color or the color of the people around us, without realizing it, we fight against that design within us and in others. This results in misunderstandings, clashes with certain people, broken relationships, frustration with people and even limited effectiveness in your personal, and professional life. It can even take you to hold the wrong image about your life and who you are!

imposed by society, family, past experiences, or even by words that others have spoken over their lives as children. That image then becomes a “safe refuge,” often acceptable in the eyes of others but it hides the true image and color inside of them.

This image that I am talking about goes beyond the outward appearance or physical image.

God created you with a unique design! And that design has an internal image not based on what society has told you, but based on the purpose for which you have been created.

All that ends in a distorted “picture” from the masterpiece in which your color is vital to inspire, refresh, or even liberate.

Unfortunately, some people strive to maintain an external image that is not genuine or authentic. Perhaps an image

So, what is your image of yourself? What is your true color?

12

Today, I encourage you to reflect on and answer these questions to help you start identifying your true color or refine your understanding of it:

others or distorted from your true God-given identity can work for several years but eventually you will feel frustrated, dissatisfied, disconnected and not complete in life.

What do I dream of? What brings me greater satisfaction in life? What makes me mad to the point that I feel compelled to do something about it? What is something that I always wanted to do? Why? What are my none negotiable values? What am I good at? What am I not good at?

Something I’ve learned in this journey is that how you see yourself determines how you think today. And how you think today determines how you act and perform today. And how you act and perform today will determine the decisions you make today. And the decisions you make today will determine how your future will look.

Remember that there is more to it and these questions are just a start. However, the answers to these questions and all those dreams inside of you are part of a great design that reveal your true colors.

So, of course, you must maintain your outer image. But make sure it is a true reflection of your inner image, and the unique color you have been given; so that you will be able to successfully fulfill your purpose in life being part of a masterpiece that impact peoples lives, inspires, refreshes, or even liberates.

Bold Prints on Trend Add bold prints or floral prints to your spring line up. Stripes and polkadots are also on the verge of making a comeback. Those three looks alone are guaranteed to be a spring win.

50 Shades of Color This spring is all about pops of color. Thanks to La La Land, I predict yellow is going to rule the market. Focus on adding one piece of color to your spring wardrobe. Choose a bright clutch, tassel earring, over the shoulder bag, or sandals to jump in on the trend.

Tasting Travel My last article focused on the west coast. As much as I want to stay by the coast, I figured we would travel towards the middle of the country. The Midwest to be exact. I have had the pleasure of driving though Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and so many more….did I mention this was all in two weeks?! As a traveler, you want to learn as much as you can about each state. Some look for the history, others look for the culture, but I tend to look for the local food. Midwesterners seem to have a thirst for the simple, all-American foods, from corn on the cob, to pizza, to tart cherry pie. As the city of Chicago has already claimed their fame to certain foods, these foods are usually known as Chicago-style hot dogs

and Chicago deep-dish pizza.

Hot dogs are a classic American food across the country, but the Windy City is covered with hundreds of hot dog joints. Whether they are steamed all-beef dogs, fully loaded or companied with poppy seed buns, its all unhealthy deliciousness! If you decide to order a “classic,” then your Chicago Dog will be piled high with chopped white onion, sweet pickle relish, a dill pickle spear, tomato slices, pickled sport peppers a dash of celery salt, and mustard, but never ketchup. The most common places to try a Chicago-style hot dog are Hot Doug’s, Vienna Beef, and Wrigley Field’s dressed-

Kansas Barbeque up ballpark dogs. As for Chicago deep-dish pizza, Lou Malnati’s is my go to. But don’t take my word for it, there are tons of restaurants to choose from for yourself. The deep-dish pizza has an amazingly, buttery crust, bright canned tomatoes, and Italian sausage with a hint of wine that will make you full from one slice.

Floridians are accustom to but the Kansas Citystyle barbecue is typically smoked with a dry rub. Kansas Barbeque is slathered in a thick tomato-and-molasses sauce that’s sweet with varying degrees of fiery kick and tang. There are over 100 barbecue joints in this state alone. The best places to try are Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue, Wichita’s Pig In Pig Out BBQ, and Salina’s Hickory Hut.

While the rest of the Midwest is being all-American, Wisconsin is all about the bratwurst on the barbecue. Move over America, the Germans are here to stay. There is only one way to eat the high-quality meat in natural casing: it is practically blasphemy if you do not fry, but never grill it. The best places to try this hot Wisconsin commodity is at the legendary Usinger’s in Milwaukee or the Charcoal Inn in Sheboygan.

In Indiana and Nebraska, it’s not truly living like the locals until you have tasted the sweet buttery corn on the cob between your teeth. This Midwest staple is usually either shucked and boiled or grilled directly in its husk. The best place to find these savory treats would be most commonly found at various corn festivals. As you can see, good food is found all over. The Midwest, a.k.a America’s Heartland, is home to most iconic foods of the United States. Though Midwestern food is not the fanciest cuisine, many of these dishes are symbols of true America.

The South is known as the land of true barbeque. However, the area’s I will focus on will include the vinegar-based sauces, mustardy sauces, or dry rubs. In the Midwest, it is a not as sweet as

MISSIONS Month Success By Jackie Cullum

Did you know that February is missions month? We just wrapped it up and it was a great success! By we, I mean my home church, which is Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Seminole, FL. Our theme for missions month is Psalm 96:3. We designed our missions t-shirts around this theme and they were a hit (pictured to the right)! A huge thanks goes out to Big Fish Co. in Saint Petersburg, FL for taking our ideas and making them a reality. Aside from our t-shirt sales, we featured different missionary speakers each Sunday throughout the month. Let me tell you, they had awesome messages and were really inspiring. Their messages centered around the fact that although not everyone is called to go into the mission field, everyone is called to support our missionaries. We heard crazy stories of our missionaries’ experiences around the world and they told us about their current happenings and future goals. One missionary got punched by a nomad living in a jungle. How crazy is that?!

31

“Go into all the world

Our biggest event was our missions dinner. Missions dinner is always a big production at Aldersgate. We started with a potluck dinner. The food was delicious, by the way. We had everything – ranging from fried chicken to potato casserole to lasagna and much more. Dinner lasted for an hour and then guests were each assigned to a starting room. Each room contained a missionary and they each did a half hour presentation on their ministry and allowed time for questions and answers. The number of missionaries who attend varies each year – this year we had four. The speakers at the first presentation I attended were representatives of BCM International. An interesting fact is that their division of BCM takes place on USF’s college campus in Tampa, FL. They reach out to international college students that are primarily Muslim or Hindu. They hold dinners on campus and also provide dinners for students within their own home. The speakers

and preach the Gospel to all creation.

at the second presentation I attended were representatives of United World Mission and serve in Latin America. They are regional leaders for Central America and the Caribbean and are coordinators for United World Mission in Cuba. The speakers at the third presentation I attended were Steve and Shari Iovino. The Iovinos are representatives of Christian Outreach Center, located in Largo, FL. Their focus is on elementary-aged children. On the main campus, they utilize a Christian curriculum and teach the kids about God. They also have a bus and take the children on fun field trips, such as going to the Tampa Lowry Zoo and Monster Jam shows. For Christmas, each child receives a stocking stuffed full of items valued at around $20 total. They also receive a gift and have wrapping parties at which volunteers attend. My favorite part is the children can earn C.O.C. dollars, which they can use at an internal store entirely made up of out-

side donations. This allows the children to buy gifts for their family around Christmastime, which many cannot afford. The speakers at the last presentation I attended were Gurudatt and Nadira Shiwdat. The Shiwdats are representatives of World Team. They serve Suriname, South America. Their main focus is on reaching the Hindustani. They have a very tailored approach at reaching the Hindustani because they were raised Hindu before converting to Christ. All of the presentations were very informational and touching. Missions dinner is always a very exciting event! Missions month was successful and although it’s over, missions will be on the forefront of my mind year-round. We have great events coming up that I will tell you about as they are happening. In articles to come, I will give you missionary updates as I receive them. I will also try to broaden the topic of missions to include general missions happenings, not just the happenings at my home church. Stay tuned!
