CHILLI STUDIOS // COMMUNITY CAFE DESIGN COMPETITION
UNFOLDED INTERNAL ELEVATIONS
Our particular experiences with architectural design draw upon similar themes of appreciation, understanding, and cohesion of communities in considerate, flexible environments that promote positive social interaction. The principle philosophy behind our design derives from the Japanese art of Kintsugi - a technique with which a broken object is repaired using a lacquer mixed with gold, or other precious metals. The cracks become a testament to the objects history. This is heavily interlinked with the philosophy of wabi-sabi; centred on the acceptance of transience and finding beauty in objects and things commonly deemed ‘imperfect’.
CHILLI STUDIOS BRIEF MOOD BOARDS
RESPONSIVE MOOD BOARDS AS INITIAL DESIGN TOOL
CONCEPT ENTRY PERSPECTIVE
We began the design process by exploring the mood boards provided in the brief, responding in the same method by creating boards of our own individually, before discussing our ideas together. We found a similar line of design whereby the boards could be reflected with our own thesis in mind. The following pages outline our concept, with a number of images illustrating the potential atmosphere of the space and the construction of our proposed design components. We see this proposal as a starting point, and are enthusiastic for any further design development alongside Chilli Studios representatives.
