Emerging victorious as an overall race winner was Andrea Recordati's Wally 93 Bullitt. Success was momentous and unexpected in equal measure for the owner of the Italian yacht. "The race was very demanding and challenging. Coming in first overall in corrected time, honestly, I am still having difficulty believing it. I am ecstatic. I am super happy for the boat; she deserves it. We put a lot of effort into optimising and improving her. I am especially happy for my crew. I have an exceptional team, and they deserve this too."

FROSTY WINDS AND COSY CABINS A Skipper's Handbook to Winter Sailing

As winter's chill sets in, the allure of off-season sailing beckons, prompting Skipper to unravel the essentials of winter sailing gear. From the necessity of heaters to the nuances of combating condensation, this feature navigates the waters of winter preparation, ensuring your sailing experiences remain vibrant memories, even in the brisk embrace of the open sea.

luxuries, become essential for those wishing to prolong their cruising season. The rewards for these additional efforts are memorable sailing experiences. The Boat In the less forgiving conditions of winter sailing, the boat must be well-found and seaworthy. Squalls and heavy rain can quickly reveal the vulnerabilities of tired sails, aged rigging, and leaky deck fittings. Cold hands can impede tasks on deck, necessitating the smooth operation of equipment. Simple and inexpensive boat maintenance during the summer, such as securing shackles and servicing winches, ensures smooth operations during winter voyages. While additional equipment may be costly, certain creature comforts transform from luxury to necessity.

A cockpit tent will add space, provide a drying area, and can be heated with a duct in the cockpit

Prevent the growth of mould and mildew by propping up bunk cushions, leaving sole boards up, and keeping lockers ajar for proper air circulation. Dry or vacuum bags are essential for protecting items from moisture, and moisture-absorbent pouches can be helpful. Lights Prepare for long hours of darkness with functional navigation and anchor lights. Carry spare bulbs, invest in good torches, and consider a powerful searchlight for identifying moorings or obstacles in the dark. The Kit Embrace warmth over style. Carbon Monoxide Burning carbon-based fuels may produce harmful carbon monoxide levels, especially in confined spaces like a yacht's interior. Adequate installation, boat ventilation, and routine heater inspections are crucial. Install at least one CO detector and ensure fumes do not accumulate inside cockpit tents or wheelhouses. Condensation and Insulation Condensation, fueled by our breath, can be a persistent issue. While complete elimination is impractical, reducing wet gear inside the boat and managing moisture through ventilation, dehumidifiers, and insulation are essential. Spray foam, close-celled foam, and specialist products like Armaflex can enhance insulation, though considerations for repairs and access to fittings are necessary.

4 YACHTS TO WATCH FROM THE FORD LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW The largest in-water boat show was held in October in Florida's beautiful, sunny surroundings, showcasing some of the most impressive yachts today. This year's edition has some stunning options moored for viewing. Here are four of our favourites to keep an eye on.

BOAT SHOWS

P. 33

Sirena 78 LENGTH 25m | TOP SPEED 27kn | GT 137 | BEAM 6.5m It isn't such an impressive show without a lineup of new yachts to look at, and this one is our favourite so far. Designed by premier shipbuilder Sirena, she's a 25-metre cruiser built with flexibility in mind, and her versatility can turn on the fly, making her one of the most innovative boats available by this shipbuilder. The fully enclosed flybridge takes Sirena's standard and turns it up a notch as several beautiful windows are added to enhance the natural light and the beauty of the places where this yacht will sail. The interior is decked out in honey-coloured wood and glowing lacquer, inspired by Scandinavian simplicity to craft a home on the water.

Ocean Z LENGTH 49.9m | TOP SPEED 15kn | GT 499 | BEAM 9m Built by Heesen and barely a year into its launch, this bluewater motor yacht has 50 metres of steel hull and MTU M63 engines. She reaches a top speed of 15 knots for travelling and a cruising speed of 13 knots. But the exterior, created by British designer Clifford Denn, is more impressive than its already stunning build and heavily emphasises the luxury of its outdoor leanings. With a large sun deck and jacuzzi, al-fresco dining, and sun loungers, every inch of Ocean Z has been created to provide ultimate comfort and lounging. Adding a sky lounge and a fold-out swim platform adds another layer to an impressive vessel. Heading inside, the comfort continues with cream-coloured sofas, soft green accents, and textured materials that contrast the crisp steel lines of her exterior. »

Ocean Alexander 28 Explorer LENGTH 29m | TOP SPEED 20kn | GT 163 | BEAM 6.3m This gorgeous 28.8-metre beauty comes with a comfortable swim platform perfect for socialising with friends and family and a main deck already waiting for all the al-fresco meals you can take while surrounded by some of the world’s most natural beauty. Fully hemmed in by raised bulwarks and the expansive sundeck canopy, dining in style has never been so easy. From there, you can enter via French doors into the living space, with an L-shaped sofa and bar for a comfortable day on the water. Also included is a full-beam main suite, a second saloon on the flybridge if you want to look out over the water, a sky lounge with a jacuzzi, a custom-made barbecue, and a beautiful sundeck. She cruises at seven knots, with a top speed of 20 knots.

Perseo Super by Riva LENGTH 23.25m | TOP SPEED 37kn | GT 163 | BEAM 5.75m Launched in 2021, the Perseo Super’s shape will make it stand out. Built along the same sleek, lovely lines as a racing car, she is the next reiteration of the first Perseo model, and what a reiteration she makes. With a paredback upper deck and giant windows to let in the sun, this Riva beauty carries on the mahogany and stainless steel tradition of her shipbuilder and adds a few tricks of her own. Our favourite is her gloriously comfortable interior, featuring standout dark wood and cream furnishings designed to lounge on and a convertible cockpit that allows you to switch from the dining table to the lounging deck within seconds. While these four are the highlight of the show for us, there are a thousand more showcases to keep an eye on, so if you have the time, we encourage you to keep an eye on the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and see if you can spot your next best purchase!

5 BEAUTIFUL NAUTICAL INSTRUMENTS AVAILABLE TODAY Since sailing has become a sector of innovation and technology, we can't blame anyone who looks at their vessel and decides it needs something extra. Nautical instruments such as ship clocks, chronometers, and navigators might be old-fashioned and not strictly necessary. Still, they can add a touch of glamour and beauty to any vessel, no matter how small. Handmade for precision, they can prove a sound investment both for the beginning sailor and the one who's been sailing for years. Here's what we recommend for the sailor in your life.

has elevated the standard for marine chronometers with this one. Using Tim Heywood's stunning attention to detail as the focal point for the chronometer's creation, this is a beautifully crafted cube of hand-polished fine-wood and goldplated brass, super-resistant borosilicate, and a lovely blue dial face. Its maximum deviation is 0.3 seconds per day, lasting up to 56 hours on its power reserve. The most incredible aspect of this chronometer is the hand-edged time-zone map that rounds out the design. BENETEAU RENDEZVOUS 2023 A Voyage of Discovery and Delight Fleet at anchor at San Niklaw

Peter Valentino captures the essence of the Beneteau Rendezvous 2023 at Marina di Valletta. This event was more than a gathering; it celebrates the maritime lifestyle, showcasing how boat ownership enriches lives with a unique blend of adventure, community, and serenity.

Marina di Valletta, was closed, so rather than meeting over the desired plate of pasta al limone, we sat around a table, ordered food that got delivered, and had an exhausting chat about the Beneteau Rendezvous 2023, which was scheduled for the 10th and 11th of November. We digressed, but I won't do so here; that's a top secret. Boat ownership transcends the mere acquisition of a vessel. It's about embracing a lifestyle around marina life and connecting with other boat owners, their families, and friends. Missing my own boat, I recall the sense of duty and passion it instilled, akin to the joy of driving to any marina with anticipation. three groups based on size and performance, ensuring a fair and exciting race. Class 2, populated with models like the Oceanis 47.7 and 51.1, stood out for their close competition. The Oceanis 51.1, with its sleek design, outboard shrouds, and efficient cockpit setup, exemplified Beneteau's innovation and elegance. Inside, the Oceanis 51.1 revealed a modern, spacious interior, challenging the allure of land-based living. This boat, among others, highlights Beneteau's commitment to combining performance with comfort, offering an unparalleled experience at sea. to Marsamxetto, followed by celebrations at SAMIZU, culminated in the prizegiving ceremony. A notable rule adjustment, to the second-place boat, embodying the event's ethos of community and sportsmanship. As I reflect on this rendezvous and the evolution of sailing events, I propose a series of races leading up to the annual gathering. These races could cater to various sailing styles, incorporating the competitive edge of the 'First' range and the more relaxed, scenic routes for the 'Oceanis' series. Such a series would reinvigorate the racing spirit, culminating in a grand finale at the Beneteau Rendezvous. My heartfelt thanks go to the participants and organisers. I'd also like to thank Mediterranean Yacht Sales and Tauss Holdings for organising the event, and I thank the fifteen sponsors who joined, making it possible to take this event to the heights it reached. Their collective effort and enthusiasm made the event a memorable one. In sum, the Beneteau Rendezvous 2023 was not just an event but a manifestation of the boating lifestyle—a blend of passion, community, and the joy of sailing. We carry the friendships and memories made at sea as we prepare for the gathering the following year. Pachamama, new Oceanis 51.1 yacht

Here's wishing you all the best, and let's look forward to the Beneteau Rendezvous in 2024.
