Sombor is in Serbia’s northern province of Vojvodina, bordering Hungary to the north and Croatia to the west, across the Danube River. The Sombor District encompasses 1,178 square kilometers and includes the city of Sombor as well as 15 rural settlements. The region is extremely fertile, and its markets are brimming with locally grown produce. The average elevation in the Sombor area is only 90 meters. Sombor is easily accessible from a number of important cities and airports while remaining far enough away to offer visitors a unique and different experience. It is situated 60 kilometers southwest of Subotica, 100 kilometers northwest of Novi Sad, 175 kilometers northwest of Belgrade, 220 kilometers south of Budapest, and 345 kilometers southeast of Vienna. The Sombor municipality has a total population of 97,263 as of the most recent census in 2002, with half of that number living in the city proper and the other half in rural and farm villages. Additionally, there are 21 nationalities registered in the Sombor municipality, the majority of which being Serbs (61 percent), Hungarians (13 percent), and Croats (8 percent ) Sombor’s streets are 120 km in length, there are 9 squares, 4 parks, and 121 km of the city’s renown tree lanes. According to estimates, Sombor is the greenest city in Serbia and, considering its size, unquestionably one of the greenest towns on earth. This makes the locals of Sombor quite proud..
