NEW! Summer Fun Days - Afternoon Program Rising PreK-4th | From June 24-Aug 9 (not offered the week of July 1st) | 12 PM - 3:15 PM New this year! Summer Fun Days, our afternoon program (12PM-3:15PM), is offered in conjunction with our morning classes for students in rising grades PreK-4th. If your child enrolls in a Lower School Summer Enrichment class, they can partake in a fun-filled afternoon. This creates a full-day experience for your little one. With more than 25 Summer Enrichment Classes to choose from we are confident that you’ll find something in the morning to pair with a fun afternoon on Sanford’s 100-acre, beautiful campus. *Students will need to pack lunch.
The Jungle Book: Live on Stage Grade: Rising 1st-5th | June 10-14 | 9 AM - 3 PM | Child Drama Workshop Your child will learn about the true adventures of the jungle while befriending Baloo and dodging Shere Khan’s wrath. They will join Mowgli and his band of jungle friends in this epic adventure. Your child will love experiencing the wonders of the jungle on stage. While moving, acting, and singing, your child will have a fun romp in the jungle! In addition to our professional direction, trained acting teacher(s) and a souvenir program, your child will also be under the guidance of trained choreographer and/or stage combat instructor. Campers will work together to help create the story in an ensemble format. This original play will be shared with parents and peers on the last day of camp, complete with stage makeup, costume accessories, and souvenir program, followed by a cast party!
I am Independent Grade: Rising PreK & K | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Courtney Lewandowski Responsibility leads to independence which leads to confidence! For children to become independent in common home and school tasks, they need to be given opportunities to practice. This enrichment program will expose 4- and 5-year-olds to jobs that can be done at home to build personal confidence for when they come into the classroom. Students will learn through stories, crafts, and various hands-on activities that will build a home and school connection. Along with activities that will build their independence physically, they will also work through social stories and group games to practice regulating specific emotions on their own. Parents and children will benefit from the independence that their child will gain from their experience during this week-long program!

Cooking with Books: Session I Grade: Rising K & 1st | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Beth Kosinski What is better than a good book? How about a good book paired with a tasty snack? Cooking with Books is a fun week-long class that will allow students to enjoy a children’s book as well as learn to cook a related snack. Students will go home each day with a dish they prepared themselves. While the food is cooking, they will play games, create an art project, and put together their very own recipe book. Come join us for some fun with food! *Students who took this class (session I) in the past should be aware that we will be making the same recipes.
Let’s Go to Paris Grade: Rising 1st & 2nd | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Sahar Salehi In this summer class, we’re going to embark on an exciting journey to Paris, the City of Lights! Your child will explore the excitement of traveling to Paris while exploring the rich culture, history, food, songs, and language. We will concentrate on learning little dialogues in French that will help us navigate our explorations. We will also do fun activities such as coloring pages, creating crafts, reading stories in French, and listening to French music while picnicking outside in our “French Cafe!” So, get ready for a magical journey to Paris, where every day will be a new and exciting adventure. Pack your backpack, and let’s learn and explore together!
Take A Dive Grade: Rising 2nd-5th | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM or 9 AM - 3 PM | Science Explorers Dive into the world of marine biology and oceanography! In our half-day camp, students will dissect a real shark, participate in a fisherman’s challenge, examine the anatomy of a fish and learn the ancient technique of gyotaku or “fish rubbing,” learn to survive at sea with a homemade solar still, create a kelp forest and make your own submarine. Stay for the full-day camp and come face-to-face with some unique sea creatures! Students will complete a squid dissection, bring to life genuine Triassic Triops, conduct a whale adaptations lab, and examine many weird wonders that live under the sea!
Introduction to Ukulele Grade: Rising 3rd & 4th | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Caitlyn Derrick In Ms. Derrick’s ukulele class, students will learn the basics of playing the ukulele. Students will learn will learn chords, sing pop songs, create our own music, and learn how to play the ukulele to accompany ourselves and others singing. Join Ms. Derrick for a fun week of learning the Ukulele!
Spanish Adventures: Oceans Away Grade: Rising PreK & K | July 8-12 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Lia Andrews- Language U Splish-splash with us as we get ready for Spanish fun under the waves with this year’s “Oceans Away” theme! Get ready to explore pirate ships, sandy beaches and marine animal life! Experience Spanish in a whole new and magical way! Join Ms. Lia for a camp full of daily missions, crazy crafts and magical adventures! Whether your children are seeing Spanish for the first time, or they are keeping up with their language foundation, Ms. Lia is excited to keep your campers motivated, entertained, and learning from start to finish. Books and Nature Grade: Rising 1st & 2nd | July 8-12 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Laura Jezyk Come join us for a fun-filled week of exploring nature and children’s literature. We will utilize the beautiful Sanford campus to inspire our budding artists and readers! The week will include different crafts, dramatic play, writing, storytelling, and more. It is a great way to keep your child’s mind and body active and also reinforce academic skills and their love of reading.
Jumpstart to Third Grade Grade: Rising 3rd | July 8-19 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Caitlin Powderly Jump into summer with great books, engaging math projects, and lots of ideas for creative writing! This fun-filled class will focus on reading comprehension strategies, organizing and editing stories, and complex mathematical operations such as subtraction with regrouping and the basics of multiplication. Brain breaks will be needed, so Miss Powderly is ready to take the students on nature walks through our beautiful sunny hills and keep everyone flexible with some outdoor yoga moves! Get ready to have a great start to third grade!
Robotics with Lego Grade: Rising 4th-8th | July 8-12 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Code Ninjas LEGO builders, come explore the LEGO SPIKE prime robotics kits as you learn how to build and code your own silly dancing robot, a working safe, charging rhino and more! Using these kits, students will learn the fundamentals of how to design, build, and code robots. They will also apply their new knowledge of sensors, motors, and coding as they construct their own creations.
School of Rock - Rookies! Grade: Rising K-2nd | July 15-19 | 9 AM - 12 PM | School of Rock -Hockessin Perfect for the rockers-to-be, students learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Campers get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments, including guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. The week will end with a rock show for families, of course!

Code your own Cartoon Grade: Rising 2nd-5th | July 15-19 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Code Ninjas It’s time to unleash your creativity and express yourself as a master storyteller. Throughout this camp students will learn how to code their own animations and imaginative stories! In this camp, students will learn how to express themselves and let their creativity shine through code as they work together to craft silly, scary, and exciting cartoons in SCRATCH - a kid-friendly, visual programming language developed by MIT. Throughout this experience, students will level-up their knowledge of basic coding concepts, as well as their storytelling abilities.
The Magical World of Science Grade: Rising 2nd-5th | July 15-19 | 9 AM - 12 PM or 9 AM - 3 PM | Science Explorers Get ready to make ooey gooey slime, tinker with circuits and invent something amazing, take a journey into the human body and our amazing organs, discover the science behind color and light, and explore the relationship between predator and prey, making discoveries about dinosaurs that once roamed the earth.
Junior Explorers Grade: Rising PreK-1 | July 22-26 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Science Explorers Junior scientists will get loose in the lab exploring awesome hands-on science! They’ll investigate their way through different states of matter, create foaming, fizzing reactions, make a rainbow test tube, concoct glowing slime, mix up the best bubble solution ever, go on a fossil safari, and erupt their own volcano.

The Little Mermaid: The Musical Grade: Rising 1st-3rd | July 22-26 | 9 AM - 3 PM | Child Drama Workshop Strike up that underwater band and let your child’s voice ring true as we get ready to “take a dive,” into the splendor of “The Little Mermaid: The Musical!” All your fan-favorite characters from this famous Disney classic come to life through the creative and performing power of your children! Movement and dance-based games, along with fun-filled theatre performance exercises, will give your children everything they need and more to bring about a stupendous and music-filled extravaganza! Come swim with Flounder, outsmart Ursula, save the dashing Prince this time and let your child’s creativity swim freely this summer! Moviemaking and Modding in Minecraft Grade: Rising 2nd-5th | July 22-26 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Code Ninjas Attention all Minecraft creators! Take your creative mode skills to a new level as you shift your imagination into high gear. Learn how to build epic scenes, tell stories and record videos in your own Minecraft world and learn how to make modes with custom textures, weapons, armor, enemies. In this camp, students will shift their imagination into high gear as they learn scene building, storytelling and video recording featuring their own Minecraft world. They will also jump into the basics of editing and mixing audio as they produce their final stories as short movies. Using Minecraft as a creative medium, students will have fun expressing themselves and sharing their stories with their friends. They will leave the camp with a deeper understanding of how creativity and technology can work together to create movies.
Jumpstart to PreK Grade: Rising PreK | July 29-Aug 9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Amy Clark & Sophia Pollinger Energetic, curious, creative...three words that definitely describe this age group! Our Jumpstart program is an excellent option for fostering individual creativity and academic growth. Emphasis will be placed on fine motor development (handwriting), pre-reading skills, and overall number sense. With playful hands and busy minds, we will help your child continue to build the confidence needed to grow and soar in and out of the classroom.
Paw Patrol: On Stage! Grade: Rising PreK & K | July 29-Aug 2 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Child Drama Workshop “Paw patrol is on a roll!” Have your child journey to Adventure Bay and become one of their favorite pups from Paw Patrol: Chase, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, Marshall, Everest or even Ryder! They will experience rescuing Mayor Goodway, Captain Turbot, and more familiar characters. Watch your child take a paw step into action as they save Adventure Bay from whatever problems arise. Acting, singing and creative movement will combine in creating an original and improvisationally based play. Parents and friends are invited to come see our play on our last day of theatre camp, complete with costume accessories, props, makeup, and a souvenir program, followed by a cast party!

Jumpstart to 2nd Grade Grade: Rising 2nd | July 29-Aug 9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Courtney Lewandowski Worried about the “Summer Slide?” Research shows that keeping up with skills over the summer will enable your child to obtain a greater sense of confidence and excitement for the upcoming second grade school year. Practice with reading and phonics skills, writing conventions, and math fact fluency will be a part of our daily routine. Students will have time to explore, create, and play both inside and outside too. Every day is a learning adventure at Sanford and we hope you can join us!
Adventures in Printmaking Grade: Rising 3rd-5th | July 29-Aug 2 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Nicki Liss Join Miss Liss and Mrs. Liss (you read that right, Miss Liss’s mom!) for a week of creative exploration. We will be exploring printmaking to the fullest through hands-on experimentation. Students will learn the basics of printmaking and learn a variety of techniques such as Monoprinting with unconventional materials, designing a collagraph plate, and relief printing a personal logo. If your student does not mind getting messy, taking yoga breaks, and experimenting with materials then this course is a perfect choice!
Jumpstart to Fourth Grade Grade: Rising 4th | July 29-Aug 9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Caitlin Powderly Novels, research, and fractions, oh my! When transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn it is important to solidify the skills of annotation and taking book notes to ensure understanding. Miss Powderly is excited to introduce this technique to those bridging from elementary-style books to more sophisticated chapter books. Students will also be taught writing techniques that they will implement to construct a piece they are proud to call their own! Hands-on math lessons will be taught with an emphasis on fractions, decimals, and long division. In this class, learning will come to life!
Where the Wild Things Are! Live and on Stage! Grade: Rising PreK & K | Aug 5-9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Child Drama Workshop This Caldecott Medal winner is a children’s timeless adventure brought to life on stage. Allow your child to “sail off through night and day and in and out of weeks...to where the wild things are.” Your child can become unruly and primitive beasts as they explore emotions both big and small. Acting, singing and creative movement will combine in creating an original and improvisationally based play. Story Art Grade: Rising 1st & 2nd | Aug 5-9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Nicki Liss Come Join Miss Liss and Mrs. Liss (you heard that right, Miss Liss’s mom) for a fun-filled week of creative exploration! This class is perfect for students who want to make new friends or connect with old ones through their love of art and stories. The Liss team will read some of our favorite children’s books and create art inspired by these special stories. You can expect some laugher and learning moments as we read from a diverse set of authors. Students will create and explore various mediums such as collage, painting, and oil pastel amongst others. Students who take this course will get a head start on how to responsibly care for art materials and engage in creative thinking. We will make use of our beautiful campus by taking walks down by the stream, where we will practice some themed yoga. I am so excited for you to join us!

Get ready to have fun while strengthening your math skills! *This class is intended for incoming 7th and 8th graders who are getting ready to take or who have just completed Pre-Algebra. Students enrolled in this course have NOT completed Algebra I.

Survival Skills Grade: Rising 5th-6th | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Matthew Collins In this camp we will spend every day in the Sanford woods, making things, playing games, and getting dirty. At the end of the week you will be ready for any challenge you may face in the great outdoors. We’ll put together survival kits so we can always have essential items ready to go. We’ll learn how to build different survival shelters using natural materials, tarps, or a combination. We’ll discover where to find water when creeks and streams are not present and how to filter water. We’ll create different types of tools and traps, practice fire-making strategies, and figure out how to tie different types of knots for survival. Finally, we’ll make sure to sharpen our compass skills through compasses courses and scavenger hunts.
English Enrichment: Grade 8 Grade: Rising 8th | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Chris Keiser Students will engage in a week of activities and assignments balanced around fifty percent reading skills and fifty percent creative and argumentative writing skills. Reading assignments will be a blend of choice read and teacher assigned short stories, focusing on comprehension and basic literary analysis skills. Students will explore what happens in these texts, how we can glean meaning from them, and their personal connections to the narratives. Our writing activities will be centered around a composition journal, where students will keep all of their major and minor writing assignments, from creative writing exercises to longer prompted responses. This course will give students the opportunity to prepare some of the skills that will be vital to their success in eighth grade English!

Intro to Acting Grade: Grade: Rising 5th-8th | July 8-12 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Clint Williams Nervous to speak in front of a group? Want to become more comfortable presenting and performing? Well if so, this class was designed for you! Students will gain skills in acting, improvisation, visualization, breathing, and relaxation, as well as a working vocabulary of theatre terms. Additionally, students will learn valuable public speaking skills in a safe space where they are free to learn the proper way to combat nerves that may impede successful speaking in front of groups of people.
Math Enrichment: Algebra 1 Grade: Rising 8th & 9th | July 8-12 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Sophie Weber Individualized and supportive approach to math; whatever modality is needed to soar, Ms. Weber is able to provide! The math enrichment course will cover a wide range of skills and will be tailored to the students who are enrolled. Students will work on their algebraic reasoning and problem-solving skills. Students will also review and strengthen previous skills, work on filling in any gaps of knowledge, and explore topics for next year’s course so that they can start with a strong foundation. Ms. Weber will be flexible with each student’s path through the course to ensure that each student learns and grows from the material provided. *This course is designed for students who have COMPLETED Algebra I.

Students will participate in a week of activities and assignments balanced around reading and writing. This class is designed to help students develop reading and writing confidence. Students will have the opportunity to practice some of the skills that are necessary for fifth grade.
Waterbotics Grade: Rising 6th-8th | July 15-19 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Beth Whipple and Emily McDermott Water + Legos + Robotics = Waterbotics! This class is an innovative, underwater robotics class where teams of students work together to design, build, program, test, and redesign underwater robots made of LEGO and other components. Students engage in a series of design challenges or “missions” that gradually increase in complexity and ultimately lead to a fully functional underwater robot capable of maneuvering in a three-foot deep pool. This program introduces students to the concept of design and collaboration in a fun and rewarding way.

Reading assignments will be a blend of choice read and teacher assigned short stories, articles and poems that cover a variety of genres: fiction, non-fiction, drama, and folklore. Students will explore what happens in these texts, how we can glean meaning from them, and their personal connections to the narratives. Our writing activities will be centered around a composition journal, where students will keep all of their major and minor writing assignments, from creative writing exercises to longer prompted responses. This course will give students the opportunity to prepare some of the skills that will be vital to their success in seventh grade English!

Research Review Grade: Rising 7th & 8th | July 22-26 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Sarah Cushing Students will review research skills such as: how to pick a topic when your teacher gives you flexibility, finding reliable sources, citing sources, figuring out what you can prove with your research, and most importantly how you put your findings together to present. Besides review, students will also learn new research concepts that will help them get ahead for the coming year. These skills are helpful across all disciplines as each subject has their own version of research.
Math Enrichment: Grade 5 Grade: Rising 5th | Aug 5-9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Sophie Weber Games and daily challenges will make this program a winner for all who attend. This program will focus on whole number operations, number facts, and understanding fractions and decimals. Introduction to Acting Grade: Rising 9th-12th | July 8-19 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Noël Williams This class is designed to provide an introduction into the basics of stage acting. Students will gain basic skills in acting improvisation, visualization, breathing, and relaxation, as well as a working vocabulary of theater terms. No previous acting experience is required. The math enrichment course will cover a wide range of skills and will be tailored to the students who are enrolled. Students will work on their algebraic reasoning and problem-solving skills. Students will also review and strengthen previous skills, work on filling in any gaps of knowledge, and explore topics for next year’s course so that they can start with a strong foundation. Creative Writing Grade: Rising 9th -12th | July 22-Aug 2 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Mike Symons Whether you’re interested in journaling, novel writing, or curious to explore the power of the written word, this course will give you a chance to explore your unique voice on the page! Students will engage in all aspects of the writing process, from creative spark to publication submission! In this seminar-style writing workshop, students will keep a notebook where they respond to creative prompts and free-writes, eventually developing their favorites into complete poems and stories. They will both share their work and receive feedback as a writer and read the work of their peers and offer feedback as an editor. After only two weeks, students leave the course with a creative writing portfolio ready to be submitted for writing contests and publication! *Sanford Students are required to attend all classes if they wish to receive school credit.
Animation Grade: Rising 9th-12th | July 22-Aug 2 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Gavin Gibson From stop-motion to video games, animation is integral to the creation of appealing and entertaining media. This animation course will educate you in the fundamentals of the craft and the technological literacy of current animation tools. By the end of this course, the student will be able to 3D animate a movement sequence of their choice and learn to self-improve their own animation work for the future. The course will cover the basics of animation and focus on applied animation skills. *Sanford Students are required to attend all classes if they wish to receive school credit.
Study Skills and Academic Readiness Grade: Rising 9th & 10th | Aug 5-9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Jackie Leo Are you looking to start the school year off with powerful, effective, and (mostly) scientifically proven strategies to improve your academic performance, organization, and study strategies? This course will introduce you to practices and habits you can use to start the school year strong! These habits will enhance your success in academic courses by improving your study skills, maximizing your strengths, building upon your weaknesses, and ultimately creating a rock solid study plan and assessment prep checklist. Students will end the week with a binder full of information, strategies, and checklists they will need to embark upon a successful school year.
English Enrichment: Grade 9 & 10 Grade: Rising 9th & 10th | Aug 5-9 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Brianna McCoy This English skills course will focus primarily on helping students strengthen their writing skills. In our endeavor to become better writers, we will read examples of good writing and discuss why it works. We will also do activities that will help students write stronger sentences with greater variety and sophistication, write paragraphs built upon analysis and evidence, and practice revision and editing skills. We will, of course, also study grammar as it is a primary tool of successful language use. Students will be given work and challenged at their particular level so that each enrolled student should be able to see growth.

SPORTS Super Shots Tennis Camp: Session I Grade: Rising K-9th | June 10-14 | 9 AM - 3 PM | Lizzy Lancellotti and Lisa Murray Super Shots Tennis Camp will be led by Lizzy Lancellotti and Lisa Murray. Lizzy has been a part of tennis camps at Sanford for the past 9 years. She is a middle school math teacher and the head varsity boys tennis coach here at Sanford. Lisa is a USPTA certified teaching professional with over 25 years of experience in the area. Lisa also operates her own business, Delaware Racquet Sports, where she plans, coordinates, and instructs junior and adult private & group lessons. Both Lizzy and Lisa played tennis in college, at Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Delaware, respectively. Super Shots Tennis Camp will enable children to have the opportunity to improve their tennis skills while also having fun! We focus on instructional work, drills, and individual and team tennis games. Everyone will be coached at their own level by placing players in small groups according to their age, experience, and ability. Players will spend the morning on the courts, then have lunch and play time, before returning to the courts for more tennis in the afternoon. This year, we are happy to provide free pizza lunch on Fridays! We are looking forward to a great summer full of tennis, teamwork, and laughter!

In 1997, Coach Hutch began her teaching and coaching career as a health and physical education teacher at Sanford School. Over the last 27 years at Sanford, Lisa has coached basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, field hockey, tennis, winter track and fitness. In 2008, Coach Hutch was named tennis coach of the year for the state of Delaware. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and physical education from West Chester University. Coach Hutch will be joined with other student coaches, who are dedicated to our youth and sports. Through their dedication, talent, instruction and passion for athletics, campers will be taught many different sports.

Khallid is a Sanford alum, who won Delaware player of the year, three state championships, and continued to play throughout college. Here at our camp we aim to teach your kids the fundamentals of the sport, expose your child to fun games, and friendly competition!
Girls Lacrosse Grade: Rising 4th-6th | June 24-28 | 9 AM - 12 PM | Emily McDermott & Kate Brower New to lacrosse? Athletes enrolled in the Beginner Girls Lacrosse Camp will learn the fundamentals of lacrosse. Cradling, throwing, catching, dodges, positions, and more will be covered throughout the week. Each day will be broken up between getting-to-knowyou activities, fundamentals, and game-like situations. The day will end with a fun activity for athletes to cool off and beat the summer heat! The equipment needed is a water bottle, mouth guard, goggles, and a stick. Camp with be led by Kate Brower and Emily McDermott. Kate played lacrosse at Rutgers University and has been coaching lacrosse at Sanford since 2022. Emily played lacrosse at Guilford College and has been coaching lacrosse at Sanford since 2014. Athletes will be given the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of volleyball, conditioning, and advanced skills if they have previous experience. The day will be broken up with fun activities to get to know each other, specific drills for serving, passing, setting, and hitting, and then game-like play. Athletes will get divided up by experience for certain parts of the day, but the whole group will also take part in activities together in a fun environment!

Baseball Grade: Rising 5th-9th | July 29-Aug 2 | 9 AM - 1 PM | Jamie Clark & Rory Conway Coach Clark’s Sanford Baseball Camp is geared toward the aspiring middle and high school baseball player. All of the basic skills involved in the game will be taught through drills and fun competitive games. Skills covered will include: throwing and catching mechanics, fielding ground balls/fly balls, cut-off drills and team defense, pitching and catching instruction, batting cage sessions, base-running, and modified games. The morning session will focus on drills and fundamentals. We will break for lunch. The afternoon session will center around fun, skill-building games.
