Diverse Group of Leaders Join Sanford’s Board of Trustees

BARRY DAVIS TODD FLUBACHER

Barry Davis is the Head of School at St. Anne’s Episcopal School in Middletown, Delaware. Before joining St. Anne’s, Barry was the Middle School Director at Greensboro Day School in Greensboro, North Carolina. His vast professional experience includes serving as the Middle School Director at Brooklyn Friends School, the Director of the Middle School at Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia, the Dean of Students at Worcester Academic, and the Head Basketball Coach at St. Lawrence University and Eastern Connecticut State University. Barry has been a presenter at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the NCAIS and NCMLE conferences as well as a mentor at the Northern Virginia Emerging Middle School Leaders Institute. Barry earned his BS in Physical Education at St. Lawrence University. Two years later he earned an MEd in Educational Counseling and Human Development. These degrees were followed by a second MEd in Educational Leadership and School Administration and Supervision from Central Connecticut State University. Barry, his wife Karen, and their two sons, Alexander and Jordan, reside in Middletown, Delaware. Todd Flubacher is a Partner with the Wilmington, Delaware law fi rm of Morris Nichols Arsht & Tunnell. Todd works with national, international, and local clients on the creation, migration, modifi cation, and administration of Delaware trusts. He represents Delaware trustees, benefi ciaries, law fi rms, and individuals throughout the country on all matters involving Delaware trusts and estates. Todd also represents trustees, executors, and benefi ciaries in all types of trusts and estates litigation and has served as an expert witness in litigation involving Delaware trusts. As an estate planner, he assists high-net-worth clients with tax strategies, implementing their planning goals, and managing and preserving their wealth for future generations. Todd graduated with a JD from University of Maryland School of Law, with honors, in 1999. He graduated summa cum laude from Drexel University in 1992 with a BS in fi nance. He is admitted to practice before the Courts of the State of Delaware and the US District Court for the District of Delaware. Todd and his wife Aimee are the parents of two Sanford students— Avery ’22 and Marlise ’28.

Outstanding trustee leadership has been one of the driving forces behind Sanford’s growth and success. This year, the governing body welcomed four new trustees. This group’s broad range of talent, expertise, and commitment will help Sanford stay true to its roots, fulfi ll its mission, and remain responsive to opportunities that lie ahead.

LAURA GIARDINA RYAN STRUTHERS

Laura Giardina is a Paralegal at The Rosenthal Firm, LLC in Hockessin, Delaware. In her previous professional role, she worked as a Legal Specialist in Marketing Law at Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Laura graduated from Indiana University South Bend with a BA in Political Science and a certifi cate in International Studies. Laura has volunteered her time to communities in both Michigan and Delaware through such organizations as HOSTS (Help One Student to Succeed), Habitat for Humanity, Benton Harbor Public Schools, Delaware Rush Soccer, Read Aloud Delaware, and the Sanford Home & School Association. Mom to William, Sanford Class of 2027, and wife to Matt, she has been actively involved in the Sanford community since 2015. From helping with classroom projects and parties, working alongside fellow parents on community service projects, to serving as Home & School President and traveling to Colonial Williamsburg as a chaperone for a week-long fi fth-grade trip, Laura is thankful for the time she has been able to spend with her son, his classmates, and the families that make up the Sanford community. Ryan Struthers is a Vice President in the Global Business Development group at Citibank. Prior to joining Citi, Ryan worked at American Express for eight years holding a variety of positions in the Merchant and Consumer Lending business in roles focused on business development and strategy. Ryan graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2010, with a BS in Accounting and a minor in International Business. A member of the Sanford class of 2006, Ryan is a Sanford lifer along with his siblings Brice ’08 and Corrie ’12. Ryan has stayed engaged with the Sanford community as a member of the Sanford Finance Committee, which he joined in 2018, as well as coming back to campus to catch a basketball practice or game any time he is in the Delaware area. Ryan lives in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, with his fi ancée Serena. In his spare time, he continues to play in a men’s basketball league with a few other Sanford alums and enjoys running with his dog in the many parks around the city.
