She is one of the most successful bloggers from the former communistic countries. Zorana Jovanović loves fashion and knows how to make it work for herself and her career. You live in Serbia - was it easy to develop yourself anyhow in fashion sense? Definitely not! I love my country but it’s really hard to be fashionable when people just don’t see it like that. If you wear a dress with bare legs and boots that’s a no-no. If you wear a beanie and sandals even bigger no-no! I’m trying to explain them that rompers are way cooler then in 1990 but it’s hard! People always think that you can’t wear sandals and fur because either you are hot up or cold down. It’s just fashion. We have to play!
You study fashion in Serbia at Italian Academy. Do you actually need to finish the school when you already work in fashion? I will be a fashion stylist. I love fashion so my choice is to do that and I want to have a full package. I want to have a degree so that no one can say I don’t deserve my place in a fashion industry. And my dream job is to be a buyer for some huge company like Net-a-Porter, My Theresa or ASOS. You are still a student but you are also an entepreneur. You already have your own shops with items bearing your name - where did the idea come from? I have two shops in Serbia and an online store, it was my mum’s idea, I’ve never wanted to be a designer and I’m not. We make basic pieces and then we decorate them in a fashionable way - with studs, crystals, pearls. At the moment we have very popular puff skirts, t-shirts, loafers, swim suits. All the things I want to wear but can’t find anywhere.
You lived in the US some time ago - how did it influence your life? L.A is my fave city in the whole world, I feel like home there. I lived there a few years ago but I already traveled to the US as a little girl with my mum and spent there every summer to learn English, so I am pretty 'americanized’. What I really love about the US is the fact that with fashion you can see everything there. I love that there are no rules in dressing up.

“intelligence without ambitions is a bird without wings”
Is it true you shop for clothes every day? It’s not a major shopping but yes, I go to Zara and buy thing or two almost every day... My mum is getting nuts because of that but I’m posting on my blog every day and I need new things all the time.
“I am a normal,
emotional and stubborn girl who loves fashion and shopping. But I also love chilling out at home with my dear dog just as much.”
Recently you also launched your cosmetic line - tell us something about it. It was really fun! I wanted a vanilla scent, and it was a long journey to make it exactly like I imagined, but I enjoyed it a lot! The line is called Little Luxuries and includes a Vanilla Body Lotion ($11.50) and several fashionable nail polishes ($4.50). Everything is available online. Your business is growing fast - do you do everything yourself or do you have any employees? I have my mum, she is my biggest supporter and she does all the legal things. And I have 3 girls that are working in the shops. But soon I think I will need a few more people to work with me on my blog.
We know you are a huge travel fan. What has been your favorite place so far and what country is your biggest dream to visit? My fave is definitely L.A., but I love London, Zagreb, Cancun, Dubai, San Diego, Chicago and Miami a lot. My biggest dream is Australia, Maldives, Hong Kong, Brazil and Paris. I was there when I was 6 and never had a chance to go again! What’s in your kindle now? Actually, I am a book person, I love to feel the paper while I read. I know, maybe a bit weird since my life is all about internet, but I’m old fashioned like that. I love Nora Roberts books! What’s your best and worse attribute? I am a forgiving person. That’s my best and worst attribute! I get mad easily but after 10 minutes I will totally forget why! On the other side I’m really stubborn and I hate it, but every Taurus is, right? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In my own house with a huge garden with 4 kids screaming around, their friends, 3 dogs and my husband, of course.

WEAR & CARE How to keep your wardrobe in a great shape? A proper care for your clothes makes them look better and last longer. Follow the tips and tricks from professionals.
Be gentle to expensive fabrics Cashmere is best washed by hand. Use cool tap water and a gentle detergent, then lay the cashmere garment on a thick bath towel and allow it to air dry. Silk garments need dry cleaning. However, some may be carefully washed by hand in warm water with small amounts of a mild detergent.
Swimwear needs a special care too Wash your swimwear by hand and let it air dry. The washing machine can damage its elasticity. Only at the end of the summer, wash your swimwear in a lingerie bag washing on a gentle cycle.
Cashmere Quality Test
Love your lace lingerie Washing it in hands will massively increase the lifespan of your undergarments. If you wash them in your machine, even on a gentle cycle, they will lose their shape quickly. Cotton bras can be washed in machine in cold water in a mesh zipper bag.
Find a Good Tailor Nothing raises the quality of moderately priced clothes more than having them altered to suit your shape. A tailor or dressmaker should know your body and your taste.
The thicker the knit, the denser its gauge, which means there is more cashmere in it. Gently stretch a section of the sweater - it should ping back into its shape. A lower-quality cash mere won’t. Hold it up to the light and you shouldn’t see much sky. The best cashmere, though made from the finest hair, has a density to it. Some great cashmere with a superior weave is usually made in Scotland or Italy.
Check the Inside A garment’s lining is often a designer’s calling card, and a good way to judge quality. A well-crafted lining is a sign that the whole piece has been sewn with care.
Stop sweaters from shedding To stop angora or mohair from shedding, fold the garment and place it into a zip-top bag and freeze it for at least three hours. 13
“too much chocolate makes the CLOTHES shrink”
Take care for knits
Do not use dryer
Wash them inside out to avoid surfaces from rubbing against other pieces. This will minimize pulling of yarn or thread.
It wears out fabric quickly. It also sets stains and makes seams twist and some hems turn upwards. Natural drying is much better and more gentler to your clothes.
Don’t wash your clothes too often
Best ironing
Not more than necessary. Washing is damaging and some clothes need not be washed every time they were worn, unless spots and dirt are visible.
Iron your clothes inside out to preserve their color and avoid ‘iron shine.’
Keep the clothes organized
Keep zippers working
Keep storage bins and racks out of direct sunlight, which fades colors. Hang what you don’t want to wrinkle (jackets, blouses, shirts, dresses, etc.) and fold what you don’t want to stretch out (T-shirts, sweaters, knits). Use a closet perfume to keep it smell fresh.
Rub the zipper teeth occasionally with wax to keep the zipper working smoothly. The stub of a candle works well for this procedure.
Don’t overload your machine Make sure your garments have plenty of room to move around within the water to get thoroughly clean and eliminate creases. Turn your clothes inside out to protect the side that counts.
ESSENTIALS things to help you look flawless Double stick tape for a garment to simply stay in place An eraser pen for getting smudges and wine off your white clothes Safety pins for allover damage control Bra converter clip to control peekaboo straps Lint brush or roller to eliminate pet hair and other fuzzies Make up sponge to remove deodorant stains Shoe Shine Sponge to make your shoes look polished Sewing kit for mending and quick repairs
Don’t be too generous Using too much washing powder or liquid won’t wash any better and the excess can end up clogged in your clothes.

Lots of black and edgy details. Irene Buffa isn’t afraid to show off her personality through her clothes. My most treasured piece: My Dolce&Gabbana black classic coat and Max Mara vintage coats from the 80’s I would never wear: Never say never! There are things I used to not like but now I wear them often! On my wish list now: A pair of nude Louboutin Pigalle pumps My tip for looking fab: There’s nothing sexier than a woman being herself and looking confident! My last $100 spree: Truth is, I would rather buy a pizza than something to wear :-) My favorite beauty product: Dior spring nail polishes and La Petite Robe Noir fragrance by Guerlain

When in doubts, I just pick a dress and put it on matching it to a pair of flat boots and then I just pick a bag. I am pretty obsessed with black and for me it’s hard to wear an outfit that does not include at least one black item! This look expresses a lot about my personality: A touch of black (faux) leather, mixed to the gray top and the red, sensual lipstick; that with this haircut is in my opinion really elegant.
I love ‘off-duty’ styles with a nice shirt or a blouse, a pair of jeans or skinny black pants, and boots or even a pair of heels.
I seldom wear anything formal, but I love this cocktail dress with a lace detail by Jessica Choay. 16

An Irish cosmetics lover shares her favorite products and tricks to look great.
When it comes to your everyday appearance, are you low or high maintenance? I would say I’m somewhere in between. I definitely prefer being made up and feeling glamorous! What are your beauty essentials? A good hydrating moisturizer, I recommend anything by Avéne. I also need a good moisturising face mask, I love the Midnight Mask by Sampar Skincare. I also love using a facial exfoliator once a week. What’s your top skincare tip? Drink plenty of water! It will leave your skin looking plump, hydrated and beautiful. What are your three make up must-haves? A foundation, mascara and a red lipstick! They give a quick, flawless look that looks timeless and classic. Which products are always in your make up bag? Definitely my Collection foundation to have a great base. My Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara for great lashes, my Sleek Face Contour Kit for definition and my Kiko red lipstick.

“ Drink plenty of

Any beauty gadgets you couldn’t live without? My tweezers and eyelash curlers! They help to make my eyes pop! What’s your fave scent? At the moment, I love the scent Notorious Eau De Parfum from Ralph Lauren. I picked it up in a sale a couple months ago and I’m loving it for a night out. Who gives you hair envy? Cheryl Cole gives me serious hair envy. I love how her hair is always so full of volume and healthy looking. What’s your biggest beauty sin, if any? Falling asleep with the make up on! It totally clogs up and wrecks the skin! Who has taught you the most about beauty? I would say my mom has taught me the most. I always used to watch her applying her make up and would try and copy her. She does a great natural look. What makes you feel glamorous? Wearing fake tan and high heels! They make me feel thinner and ready for a great night out.

Is there anything you would change about your looks? I would love my hair to be in better condition and I’d love to be a few inches taller! What products are you dying to add to your beauty bag? I would love to try the YSL Touche Eclat highlighter pen. I also need to buy a Mac lipstick! How to look good after a long night? Try a cooling face mask. It will freshen and perk up your skin, making you look like you got a great night’s sleep!

PR agent
dream job
Do you like writing, fashion and magazines? What about putting these things together and making it your career? Get inspired by a job of Malorie Kaye, publicist, president and founder of Cameo Public Relations agency specializing in fashion industry helping young designers to get noticed. How did you get started in public relations and why fashion industry? Very early I realized the fashion industry was not only where I wanted to be but where I knew I could truly grow. Figuring out what to do with that idea was overwhelming, there are so many facets within the industry and so many elements within each that are intertwined. Public Relations merged my greatest passion with my strengths, writing and interpersonal communications. It just seemed like a natural fit. After incredible internships in both editorial and PR, through which I learned so much about the two sides and how they work together, I landed my first job out of college at a small agency that worked mainly with accessories, I fell madly in love with that niche and the rest really fell into place.
What’s the difference between a good PR agent and a bad one? A good PR agent finds new ways to solve problems and secure results. A bad PR agent finds new ways to make excuses. What was your biggest challenge when starting your own agency? I am definitely a perfectionist and a bit of a control freak. The most difficult part for me had been developing an ability to delegate and understanding that even though it might not be done exactly the way I would do it, as long as the outcome is amazing and everyone involved has been smiling the whole way there, that’s all that matters.
What skills must one have to become a PR agent? The most important is the ability to connect with others. Communication is the key and should be both innate and enjoyed. You have to be able to think outside the box as well. As a publicist, you will constantly find yourself in situations where you are re-inventing product that has been around for years or pitching something that may not appear to be a natural fit for a particular outlet. It is important to be creative and resourceful and find ways to spark intrigue where it may not seem obvious. Education is definitely an important part of building a proper foundation, refining your writing skills, understanding how to evolve with the constantly changing media industries and so on. Most companies require a Bachelor’s degree.
New York, USA

“be so GOOD they can’t ignore you” What is your greatest achievement? I am so proud of every piece of press attained, every step a client takes that we’ve contributed to, each time we’re approached by a new brand because they heard ‘such incredible things about Cameo’. For me, the greatest accomplishments are making ideas that have always felt like a reach into a reality. Any dream client you would like to work with? Nicholas Kirkwood and Charlotte Olympia. Anyone who knows me understands my insane appreciation for the art of shoes and when it comes to that category, they take the cake for me. How does your typical day look like? One of the greatest things about PR is that there really is no such thing as a typical day. Each day brings a new adventure. Some days I don’t get up from my desk - I spend every minute on the phone and computer, consulting with clients, pitching stories, updating inventory, and working on sponsorships and collaborations. Other days, I’m out of the office nearly the entire day, attending market appointments, showing new collections, and catching up with the editors & stylists that have become such great friends. Some days I even treat myself to an hour or two at the bookstore, catching up on all the new magazines, generating ideas and indulging at the same time.
How many employees do you have now and is it difficult to find good people for PR? I now have a team of 6 and rapidly growing, both incredibly exciting and a bit nerve-racking. Finding the right team members is about so much more than seeking out developed PR skills, I look for people who are passionate, hungry and eager to learn, grow and excel. I’ve found that it’s getting harder and harder to find candidates with a strong work ethic and a deeper desire to build something meaningful, that’s what I look for, someone who really wants to be an indispensable part of the team. Our team now is incredible, I feel very blessed to have them. What was the most important lesson you have learnt so far? Don’t sell out or sacrifice your values and follow your gut. Work only with clients you truly believe in and feel passionate about. Our relationships with members of the press are based on trust and the idea that we share products, ideas and designers that we genuinely love and believe they should be sharing with their readers and fans.
36
dream job What ar the best and the worst parts in your job? There are endless aspects of the job that I love but I think for me personally, the best part is that we always become such an intimate part of the brands we work with. We get to be among the first to see new designs developed and the people who get to share that work with the world. Having the opportunity to watch the brands we believe in grow and flourish — knowing that we played a significant role in making that happen — is priceless. It is such a gratifying industry. Unfortunately, while we often have such exciting news to share, there are those times when we have to be the bearers of bad news. When a great credit is cut from an issue, or a piece the designer loves isn’t well received by editors & stylists, it is just as much our job to let our clients know the bad news as it is to share the good. That would definitely be the worst part of the job. .
“ Want to work in
PR industry? Don’t be afraid to take risks and step outside your comfort zone. Exemplify an ability to be innovative and prove that you want it more than anyone else.”
What would you do if you weren’t in PR? I could really see myself anywhere behind the scenes within the fashion industry - but if I wasn’t in fashion I would definitely work on becoming the next Danica Patrick, an American auto racing driver.
Photographs: cameopr.com
What are your plans for the future? It has been really important to me to grow the agency steadily and make the right moves along the way, ensuring the level of service we offer our clients was and is never compromised. We’ve hit so many goals with this sentiment in mind and I am so grateful for the journey, I think the next part of our growth will be expanding to the West Coast with a second office, hopefully in the not so distant future.

Do stylish girls live in stylish homes? Let’s find out! This time with an interior designer Irene Lovett who lives just outside of Los Angeles, US, in a cozy family house.

“home is the nicest WORD there is”
My most treasured piece in our home is a vintage brass chandelier that I bought in a thrift store for about $100 then I saw the same identical one online for $1000. I also have this big yellow lamp from the flea market that I think is super cool. And some art by my husband’s great-aunt that is really meaningful. My decor style is evolving. I used to be really into color, and I guess I still am, but recently I’m drawn to more neutral, clean spaces. I think I’ll always have a thing for quirky, though. I like homes with personality. I think the quirky accessories make a house unique. Unexpected surprises. Items that resemble homeowners. I think the mentioned types of items make your home inviting because they allow people to get a sense of you, thus it feels cozy, relaxed.

Japan From the Philippines to Japan, it’s just ‘around the corner’. But for Faye Vitan, who moved there a few months ago, it sometimes feels like a totally different planet. Wouldn’t it be the same for us too? I came to Japan to work as an English teacher. I was originally set to go to China to teach English when Japan opened its doors to Filipino English teachers in 2011. It was a rare chance I couldn’t pass up. I mean between China and Japan, who wouldn’t choose Japan?
It is easy to ask for help from the local people. I didn’t have a hard time asking for help from Japanese people. They are polite and helpful. However, to be friends with them is another story. There’s the language barrier and then there’s the cultural one. Even if I am friendly I am still considered as an outsider. In effect most of my friends are foreigners like me.
At the beginning language was a big problem. Almost everything here is in Japanese. I didn’t expect it since Japan is a first world country. I’ve been to other countries in South East Asia and I got by with English. Here in Japan, it’s just so different! I had to learn how to read in Katakana and Hiragana. I also decided to enrich my Japanese vocabulary so that even if I cannot string a sentence I can somehow understand what is going on. Some people say that you can survive in Japan without knowing the language but I think it would definitely make your life easier if you know some basic words and expression. I did not experience any ‘shock’ when I moved here. Maybe because Filipinos are pretty familiar with Japanese culture. What I felt was more of ‘awe’ because of the orderliness, cleanliness and safety of Japan. I wish the Philippines would also be like that. The biggest obstacle when I moved here was the approval of my documents so I could work in Japan. The Japanese government is very strict with Filipinos. Also, I had to produce a lot of documents certifying that I can speak and teach English. It took me a year to process all the necessary documents.

I find it funny whenever old women would talk to me just because I uttered a Japanese word. This usually happens at bus stops and terminals while we are waiting. Old Japanese women like to talk. They would usually strike a conversation with me. I would utter something in very basic Japanese then they would talk to me nonstop - or at least until the bus arrives.

I like green tea ice cream. I think Japan is the only country that has that. I dislike natto - it’s nutritious but with a very strong odor. It also feels like eating saliva. Japan is known for a lot of things - quality products, anime and manga, food, nature, etc. I think Japan has a very distinct culture. They tend to J‘apanize’ everything to make it distinctly theirs. As much as I love being in Japan, I’m not planning to stay here forever. I still consider the Philippines as my home. I also plan to try teaching in other countries, in Eastern Europe hopefully. My family is the one I miss most. If only I could bring them with me here I would. I can do without the Philippine food and culture. I think I can also survive even if I do not see my friends back home but I just don’t feel completely happy without my family. It’s like I constantly wish they were here. What I love most about Japan is the underlying idea in their social behavior. That is, as much as possible not to inconvenience or disturb other people. It’s about being considerate enough to let others live peacefully. I think Filipinos should learn this - that as much as they have their rights to live, others have their rights too.

what to see, try, enjoy... Tokyo - enjoy the capital of Japan from the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest building in the country. From the 450th level the city looks really impressive. Mount Fuji - the highest mountain in Japan at 3776 m. The best time for mountain climbing is from July to early September. Himeji Castle - one of the best preserved castles with a dominating towering six-storey central donjon belongs to the UNESCO’s World Heritage list and has been featured in many Japanese and Hollywood movies. Geisha dances - in Kyoto are open to all. The most prestigious is the Miyako Odori held throughout April every year in the geisha quarter of Gion. Cherry blossom parties from April through May, when sakuras or cherry trees start to blossom across the country. The most famous areas for lively parties underneath the pretty blossoms are in Ueno Park in Tokyo and Maruyama Park in Kyoto.
