The Move Away from
Traditional Wedding Cake By Amanda Mactas
Gone are the days when couples who tie the knot join hands and plunge a knife into a multi-tiered cake to mark their union. More and more couples are moving away from the age-old tradition of not only performing the cake-cutting ceremony but eliminating wedding cake from their nuptials altogether. “No one has ever said ‘wedding cake’ when asked what their favorite dessert is,” says Dana Morrissey, partner at Mana Hospitality Group.
Opting for Favorites
There are many factors influencing the trend of moving away from traditional wedding cake, and one of those simply comes down to flavor preferences. While some people just plainly don’t like cake, others find it repulsive, explains wedding planner Martine Dardignac. “It’s often dry and doesn’t taste great.” Additionally, in the modern world where foodies reign supreme, many couples want to venture beyond the wedding cake, explains Debra Thompson, professional weddings and events consultant. “Some may choose a small one-tier wedding cake in keeping with the tradition but go in the direction of a fun, creative dessert for their guests.” Having creative direction over dessert also allows the lovebirds to showcase their style and individuality. Bride-to-be Brit James has chosen to nix the cake altogether and offer donuts to her wedding guests. “We’re not huge ‘cake people,’” she explains. “Donuts allow people to grab throughout the night and bring some home.”
Cutting Costs and Minimizing Food Waste
Varying tastes aren’t the only reason couples are opting for different dessert options. Many decide to forgo the traditional cake route because it can be quite pricy. Many venues charge an additional cake cutting fee – sometimes up to $5 per piece – which can quickly add to a wedding’s overall cost. Nixing wedding cake also helps to cut down on needless food waste. There’s a new trend of twosomes doing mini desserts, which Morrissey says she encourages. “They are the exact right size of what most adults want to eat, and it allows the couple to offer variety in a budget-friendly way,” she tells us. “As a bonus, they are completely portable, and guests will scoop up any leftovers if there happen to be some.”
Alternative Options
People are seeing more and more variety when it comes to wedding dessert — everything from chocolate-covered fruit and iced cookies to vegan cupcakes and gluten-free brownies, explains Dardignac. One of the couples Karen Nudy Pecora, wedding and event specialist at Duportail House, recently worked with offered cookie shot glasses filled with milk as one of their desserts. And grazing stations filled with pancakes, waffles, and sticky buns, or even cheese wheels, have all been popular dessert alternatives.
Abandoning Tradition
While there are countless ways to get creative with both sweet and savory after-dinner treats, some avoid the traditional cake-cutting ceremony for deeper reasons. “If they know the original meaning (where it represented the bride’s loss of virginity and a sign of good luck), they are even more opposed,” says Dardignac. In some cases, couples will still do the cake-cutting as a photo opp, but not stop the wedding party to watch.
Regardless of what couples choose to serve on their big day, “At the end of the day, it is about the blending of the two families, along with what is important to the couple,” sums up Pecora nicely. “It is their day done their way. The only rules are there are no rules.” 30 Photo Credit: Bella Luz Photography

The QUEERA Touch in Bridal By Jonathan Calixto
"This is bigger than just me, this is everyone’s fantasy," says Curtis Cassell, founder and CEO of QUEERA, a brand all about fitting your body and not defining your gender. Since its inception in 2020, the brand has been paving a new lane of inclusivity in the bridal space, and most recently seen on season 3 of Prime Video's "Making the Cut." Through custom, mix and match collections, with attention to detail like that of haute couture, QUEERA is creating a safe space in fashion. While the brand launched in 2020, Curtis remembers having conversations of designing something special since 2015. Sharing one of the lightbulb moments for him was creating a button-up dress that could be worn several ways. "This is what it is about," Curtis shares, seeing that he could create clothing that can be worn on different silhouettes for all genders. In that discovery he was inspired to "create a closet" in which everyday people could wear different pieces and with a focus on versatility, "be able to express different sides of yourself at any moment." With clients that represent the LGBTQ+ community and plus sizes, he had an idea to begin adding the QUEERA touch in the most classic category, bridal wear. "I want to celebrate both sides," he says adding, "bridal was a landscape that was very traditional, and a category Queer people find frustration in." As a brand that embraces both the masculine and feminine energies, for Curtis it is important that his designs are seen as more than just a trend. "For a long time, we were assimilating into these gendered garments," but with a mindset of, "if you don't have a seat at the table, build another table" – he thought this was the way to create gender empowerment. For Curtis, his creative eye is influenced by his love for architecture and silhouettes found in old movies. Having studied graphic design at Columbia College Chicago and graduating with a degree in interior architecture from The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago. Despite now being based in Brooklyn, New York, his motivation is fueled by the people his design reaches. "I feel like a fairy godmother, and I've got all these Cinderella's," he says about feeling like his work is being seen and recognized. Including receiving emails from people expressing how they didn't even see themselves getting married until they saw his designs. As the brand transcends bridal, at the core of its messaging and style is to empower all body types and gender identities for all special occasions.

Wedding Gifts that
Don’t Suck By Jarrod Thalheimer
The big day has been announced and you are now the lucky recipient of a personal invitation to the impending nuptials. So, how about the gift? Any ideas, or are you drawing a blank? The stress is immediate. What do I get? What if they hate it? What if they realize I have no taste? Never fear, BELLA is here to lead you into the promised land of gift-giving bliss, the happy place where no matter the wedding in question, you will be forever equipped to give gifts that most certainly do not suck.
Check the List Believe it or not, this is the new millennium and that means no one is ever forced to use their own brain if they really don’t want to. Even the most disorganized couples planning a wedding can get it together enough to set up a basic gift registry. And it’s not like the old days where it was one old department store you had to visit in person. It’s all online now. Your digital invitation likely has a link where you can scroll through the new couple’s list of desired presents all from the comfort of your couch, allowing you to easily choose the one that suits your fancy (and budget) the best. No muss, no fuss, and barely any effort at all. Now that’s a gift all itself! Cash, Baby It’s easy to forget when e-transfers, credit cards, and tap to pay are the functioning coins of our daily realm, but cold, hard cash remains (and will always be) the ultimate to receive. Like the most universal gift card ever, a few notes of legal tender will always be greeted with wide eyes and broad smiles by even the pickiest of brides or grooms. And the extra bonus of gifting cash? It’s flat, light, and far easier to maneuver than that 43 lb. crystal decanter set you had your eye on. So, skip the desperate hunt for the gift table by tucking a few crisp bills inside a swish card instead. Nothing says “I got this” quite like an envelope of Benjamins. Something Thoughtful This may seem like a stretch in these “Look at me!” times but being invited to someone’s wedding is a perfect opportunity to think about someone else for a change. Really ruminate on what makes the happy couple uniquely special to you. And if you possess something even remotely resembling a personal relationship, those memories will inform exactly the kind of gift you need to give them. Remember that hike you shared years ago when all you wished for was a bottle of wine? Gift them a custom wine skin in anticipation of the next one. How about that night stuck in an elevator where you all took turns singing songs from your iPhone? Time to give them a real karaoke machine. Mining your time together is the key to finding something sincere, genuine, and totally memorable.
Aim for the Stomach When in doubt, the way to any heart is right through the stomach. Consumables of all kinds should always be a legitimate go-to for any gifting situation. Fancy wines, cool crackers, neat cocktails, and savory surprises. Chocolates, cheeses, meats, all manner of fancy delicacies…so long as they’re plated up and displayed beautifully, they make for an exciting gift. Even if the married-to-be’s are not personal fans of the food chosen, they will certainly know someone else who is. That means no wasted gift, ever! So, while some may claim “all we need is love,” there’s a fair body of evidence suggesting food and drink are kind of important too. Get shopping with your eyes planted firmly on their taste buds. Your gifting success is assured. Adventure Is Everywhere Does anyone really need more stuff? In a world where we all have more things than our houses, apartments, and storage lockers can hold, why not give the gift of adventure instead? Tickets to a show, a few days at a sweet hotel, a special dinner in a great restaurant…any one of these experiences is a gift that goes far beyond the item itself. Setting the table for the creation of all new memories is the most exciting present available. OK, so maybe they don’t think the yak riding lessons in upper Mongolia you got them is such a grand prize, but there is no way they can ever deny what an absolutely, unbelievable experience it might turn out to be. Choosing to give the gift of adventure is truly priceless.

A GUIDE TO PLANNING YOUR WEDDING WITH EASE USING THE 6 - A'S USED BY WEDDING PLANNERS By Jacqueline Vazquez Here is a different perspective on how to begin the planning of your wedding. Approach your wedding like you are creating a story for a movie; you are the lead, and your wedding party and family are the cast. There is the trailer, beginning, the middle, and the ending of the story. My name is Jacqueline Vazquez and I am a 25-year wedding planner and expert, and I approach wedding planning with a similar style. I recommend that my couple’s consider the 6-A’s Wedding Experience Guide, a flow process used by many wedding planners and designers to help you create a smoother plan for the wedding you envision.
1. ANTICIPATION Before you create, share, and showcase the details of your wedding, you first need to create excitement. This starts with the selection of your invitation. The invitation sets the formality, tone, and overall visual setting for your wedding. When selecting your invitation, think about it from the receiving end. How would you perceive the wedding you are invited to by the invitation. Is it casual? What will you wear? How far do you have to travel? What colors do you foresee will be highlighted at the wedding? The invitation showcases this and so much more. When considering stationery for your wedding, consider the entire suite, from the invite to the escort cards, place cards, table numbers, menus, thank you cards, etc.
2. ARRIVAL Now take the expectations you have for your wedding and create momentum for the arrival of your wedding party, immediate family, and guests. How will they arrive? Are they staying at a hotel? Will they receive welcome bags? Will the welcome bags have a schedule of events? Will you be providing transportation to and from the hotel and event locations? Will guests be indoors or outdoors? Are there directional signs needed? Parking, entrance, etc? When your guests arrive, how will they be greeted and directed? Will there be a “WOW Factor” piece upon their arrival that will captivate them with awe? Will there be photo op or “selfie” moments? For the arrival, consider all these questions and more. Also when selecting invitation, venue, and vendors.
3. ATMOSPHERE Ok, now we are getting to the middle of the story – how do you want to feel when you first arrive and see your ceremony and reception spaces all decked out with everything you envisioned? The atmosphere incorporates the five senses: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch and are vital to the overall event experience. 36 50
Sight: Are there some visual pleasing “wow” moments you would like for your guests to experience? Is it an amazing centerpiece they see as they arrive and find their escort card? When they arrive at the ceremony, what will they see? Will there be a different experience as they enter the reception space? Sound: We all know how important entertainment is to an event, so are you considering what type of musical entertainment will have all your guests on the dance floor? How many speeches will you have and will the speeches flow with your expectations? More information in the Amusement section. Smell: What better way to add to the guest experience than by amazing floral fragrances or food selections that remind them of family gathering celebrations. For example, consider whether you want to avoid strong scented florals. If these types of florals are included in table centerpieces, it can cause guest discomfort or even allergic reactions for those seated at the table. Also make sure that things like strong floral scents impact the food experience. Taste: Well, the next big experience at weddings, other than entertainment, is the menu. So, think about what will make your menu stand out. Will it be comfort food or a cultural food experience? (more about this in the Appetite section) Touch: When guests are seated at a table with linen, will you consider the texture and the way the fabric feels? What about the dinnerware or décor?
4. APPETITE What type of food and beverage experience will you be offering your guests? Will they be greeted with a glass of lemonade, water, or Prosecco at the start of the ceremony or cocktail hour? Decide on the type of serving options: Sit down, Buffet or stations, or family style, just to name a few. What experience would you consider? Will you consider different dietary restrictions and allergies? There are two top priorities you can consider based on your guest experience and your expectations: 1. Provide food that can meet at least most of the basic dietary requirements, and 2. Make sure you have enough food. You don’t have to go out of your budget to accommodate each guest, so when reviewing the menu with the venue or chef, share everything from your concerns, expectations, and options for you to consider.
THE ANTICIPATION
THE ARRIVAL
THE ATMOSPHERE
THE APPETITE
5. AMUSEMENT (ENTERTAINMENT) As mentioned in Atmosphere, sound has a huge impact on the guest experience at a wedding. So how can you create an amazing experience? Consider whether you are having a live band or a DJ; a performer or a performance at each part of your wedding: ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and/or after-party. Consult with the bandleader or DJ for guidance on a flow that goes with your wedding style. Will the entertainment be just music or will you have an array of different experiences? For instance, at the ceremony will you have a cellist or string quartet? At the reception will you open it with an aerialist serving champagne or end the reception with performers inviting guests to the dance floor for La Hora Loca? All these ideas and more are all options you can consider based on your wedding style, expectations, and guest experience you are looking for.
6. APPRECIATION This is the icing on the cake. This is the moment you show your guests the overall gratitude you feel for them taking time out to be a part of your special day. Create a special way to thank your guests that makes them feel appreciated. Whether it’s a small token of appreciation, a thank you card or a parting 50 goody bag treat on their way home or back to the hotel.

Dealing with the unexpected: when things go wrong as they probably will By Dr. Julie Davelman
Some people have been planning their weddings in their head for years and in the real world for months. A wedding is the culmination of imagined moments and tireless preparations. Having given the day so much, you expect perfection. However, there are no perfect days, and things may go wrong on this special day, despite your best efforts. So, how do you keep yourself from becoming so disappointed that it ruins your day? People often say, “I am so worried about how the day is going to go!” However, worry is not protective, and worrying alone will not prevent bad things from happening. As the day approaches and the worry thoughts creep in, try to substitute worrying with planning. Through thorough planning, you may be able to prevent a problem or at least have a prepared alternative to fall back on. As much as you do not want to imagine things not going according to plan, the more you can do that, the more thorough your Plan B will be. For example, if you have always wished for an outdoor ceremony, you will likely worry that it might rain. But your worry has no impact on the weather. So, if that is all you do, you will be unprepared when the rain starts. On the other hand, while you continue to hope for the outdoor ceremony, you can come up with an alternative to fall back on in the case of rain and you will be better prepared to deal with it. The next thing to consider is your own expectations. If you expect a perfect day, everything that does not go according to plan will stand out like a sore thumb. But how likely is it that the day will go perfectly? If you go into the day saying to yourself, “this day must be perfect because if something goes wrong, the day will be ruined,” you run a high chance of feeling that way, as some issues are inevitable. Alternatively, if you set your expectations much more flexibly, it will be easier for you to adjust. You can talk yourself through a more realistic view of the day by saying to yourself “I have put in a lot of planning, and that will minimize how many surprises I must deal with. But if the unexpected happens, I will deal with it and still have an amazing day.” When you think back on your wedding day many years later, it is possible and even likely that the things that went according to plan will not be the things that stand out in your memory. What may form the most vivid memories are the things that were not supposed to happen and did. Whether an incident turns into a positive memory or a negative one mostly depends on how you dealt with it. For example, if one of the bridesmaid bouquets falls apart and so do you, you will likely remember this as a horrible moment. But, if you can take a deep breath, pull yourself and the flowers back together, and tie the flowers up using twine that was left over from the centerpieces, you will likely look back on the moment with fondness and snicker every time someone tells you that the bouquets were stunning. That is not to say that you want surprises, but at the end of the day, your handling of them is what will ultimately matter when you reflect on the day. It is hard to believe that all the intensive planning that goes into pulling a wedding together is in the service of just a few hours. Nonetheless, these are hours that you are likely to remember forever. How fondly you remember them depends a lot on the attitude with which you approach the day. Imagine all the situations that you wish will not happen, but plan for them anyway. Imagine the day turning out many ways so that you can teach yourself to be more realistic about how the day may actually go. And finally, allow yourself to remember that the day is truly about forming memories, and the memories should be positive, not perfect.

The Wedded Bliss of Generosity:
How You Can Give Back through Your Registry By Yolanda F. Johnson A new toaster. A state-of-the-art coffee maker. The most unique excursions during your honeymoon, perhaps? All of these are great ideas for any bride’s registry. However, while giving loved ones a chance to give you the things you need to start a new married life with your husband, you can also use your wedding registry as the perfect opportunity to give back and be generous during this time of celebration. Here are a few ways you can give back through your wedding registry.
Have a Good Beginning:
The Good Beginning charity wedding registry site, founded by wedding planner, Beth Helmstetter, is one of the most popular ways to directly create a charity registry, allowing your guests to contribute to charity in honor of your big day. Branding itself as “a wedding registry for conscious couples,” it is relatively easy to use and navigate, and is a great way to incorporate giving back into your wedding.
Start a New Tradition of Giving Back Together:
Research from the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy has indicated that more than half of all couples still make joint charitable decisions together. Philanthropy is also an important way for you to better understand each other’s values and bond as a newly married couple. You can learn more about what truly matters to your spouse and how important giving back is to them. What causes are most important to you and what would you like to support? Why? Take this as a wonderful opportunity to establish how you’ll make a difference in the world – together. This is something that, should you become parents together in the future, you can pass down to your children as a shared value.
Lead the Way as You Give or Get:
Are you already a member of a nonprofit board of directors? Most often, there is an annual donation given or encouragement of those in your network to give. A wedding registry is a perfect way to engage those around you, while chipping away at any expected annual donations to that charity. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to introduce new supporters to any organizations that are important to you.
Other Creative Ideas:
One even more direct way to give back through your wedding day, is to ask guests to partner with a local food bank, by bringing at least one non-perishable food item to your bridal shower or wedding reception. Create a designated space, table, or box for these items with clear signage for a quick and easy drop-off. Send photos to your guests of you and your new husband dropping them off to show how they contributed to a good cause. Likewise, you can donate some of those expensive flowers back to a nursing home or hospital to brighten patients’ day.
You, of course, should include items that you want or need, but including a special place in your wedding registry that draws your guest’s attention to charity is a great way to be creative and help the greater good through your special day. And that, my dears, is the beauty of giving back. 39

How did you meet and what was your first impression of each other? Jen - We met by chance after a failed matchmaking attempt by two mutual friends. They wanted to set us up, but to no avail. Then, one night in NYC, we met when Joe walked into the bar where I was working at the time (he had ironically just come from a wedding.) We ran into each other again the next night and our friends realized we had already met on our own. Fate? Joe – Classically, I slid into her DM’s the next day. (Joe – LOL, Jen – eye roll.) Can you share with us the most memorable moment leading up to your big day? Joe – Our engagement party, being surrounded by friends and family and watching both sides become one big Family. It was a small taste of what our wedding would be. Jen – Agreed. We almost skipped the party altogether. Our wedding date had fluctuated so much, we didn’t know if and when we could do an engagement party, but I knew I wanted one. I’m so happy we did it. What has been the biggest challenge you faced while planning your wedding, how did you overcome it? Joe – Planning a destination wedding, sight unseen, for 200 people. We were both so relieved when we finally visited the venue. We were also fortunate to have a friend that was familiar with the venue and took time out to meet with us during our first visit and we are forever grateful for his help. Jen – We literally booked the venue based on Instagram photos! We had such a hard time finding a venue that could fit our guest list, and we knew we wanted everyone together for a full weekend, so destination was it. Other than that, we had nothing specific in mind. Neither of us had ever even been to St. Maarten. Luckily, it turned out to be amazing. What advice would you give to other couples who are currently planning their own weddings? Joe – Don’t plan a wedding, elope. LOL! Jen – Honestly, I was so overwhelmed in the beginning of planning that I did suggest we elope. Thankfully, he knew I didn’t mean it. I would say, do whatever you want, it’s your day. There will be so many opinions and unwarranted pieces of advice. People will tell you not to do things, because they don’t follow “tradition…” do it all. There is no blueprint for what your wedding should be. What are you looking forward to in this new chapter of your lives? Joe - Building a home and a family together and establishing our collective roots. Jen – Same. I am so excited for this next chapter. I have been so nervous for what comes after the wedding and the post-wedding blues, scared that the planning will be over and I’ll no longer be a bride. But, I keep reminding myself that I am lucky enough to be marrying my best friend. Someone I can’t wait to start a family with, build a life with – all the most exciting parts are still ahead of us. 45

The wedding weekend kicked off with a welcome party on the Pavilion Terrace of Ocean Point Resort in Sint Maarten. Overlooking the ocean, the terrace was adorned with traditional colorful floral arrangements, accented by the "something white" theme. The groom was outfitted in shades of white by Eleventy, and the bride wore a custom Lé Lauriér two-piece set of white liquid beading. A live band played and the night concluded with fire dancing under the stars. The big day commenced as the stage was set on The Sands, where the couple's loved ones would be seated before crystal-clear waters to witness their vows. Inspired by the natural beauty of the island, they opted to incorporate a beach-chic theme. The florals were white, with touches of baby's breath and greenery, courtesy of florist and event designer, Kaya Events. The morning was filled with love as the bride and bridesmaids relaxed in the bridal suite, with wedding glam by MJ Bridal Artistry. The bride wore a custom robe by Lé Lauriér and details included invitations by Minted Weddings, the bride and groom’s signature scents, and a vintage brooch ornamenting the bride's bouquet, sourced from her mother's wedding gown. Her “something blue” was a bouquet pin and locket, holding a photo of her grandmother - a gift from her mother. The bridesmaids wore alabaster white satin dresses by Azazie, shoes by Steve Madden, and custom earrings by Dune Jewelry – designed by the bride to incorporate the sand of Maho Beach, where the couple would say, "I do." The bride changed into her custom Justin Alexander gown for the ceremony, which she designed with the team – a plunging neckline, adorned with floral applique, a cascading train, subtle sparkle detail, and a cathedral lace veil. Diamond rental collection, Verstolo, completed her look with diamond drop earrings and a simple tennis bracelet. The groom wore a black tux by The Modern Groom and his groomsmen were in coordinating black suits by The Modern Groom. Guests breezed from the golden-hour cocktail hour to the ballroom reception. For their second looks, the groom changed into a custom white jacket by Nick's Menswear and the bride opted for a sleek Eva Lendel gown of effortless satin, modest crystal detail, and a crossover split – paired with Bella Belle's crystal "Florence" heels - perfect for their first dance to “At Last” by Etta James. DJ Shortkutz and SMG Entertainment brought the party to life and the groom's brother emceed. Their guests made memories in the photo booth, sipped on “his and hers” signature cocktails, and danced the Caribbean night away.

Michelle + Adam

Michelle and Adam were married at the prestigious Brady Estate at Hamilton Farm Golf Club. Hamilton Farm is home to the largest and most lavish stable in the United States, home to the United States Equestrian Team, and is in the heart of Gladstone, New Jersey. Details of their day were inspired by the historic character of the Georgian Brady Mansion. With over five thousand acres of rolling green pastures, the picturesque location was the picture-perfect setting for their wedding. While attending NYBFW, the bride-to-be fell in love with contemporary accessories and bridal gown of the Justin Alexander Signature collection. She then visited local boutique, White House Bride where she then said, “yes to the dress!” and accessories! Her look was finished with Jimmy Choo Romy and Loeffer Randalls for dancing. On the wedding day, upon completion of bridal glam by Alisha Nycole & Co. she stepped into her gown, Tiffany pearl earrings, and was off to her first look. The groom met her at the bottom of the staircase. He was dressed in Richard Paul Menswear, Ralph Lauren, Suit Supply, Movado watch and Charles Tyrwhitt accessories. The Georgian mansion was decorated beautifully in romantic white playa blanca roses by A Touch of Elegance Florals. All moments of their day were captured effortlessly by Philadelphia and Destination Wedding Photographer, Alex Schon Photography. Their heartfelt garden ceremony and rose ceremony was performed by Reverend Rachel Addonizio at Love and Light Officiants. The couple was so excited to share their heartfelt wedding day with their guests and are incredibly grateful to share their love and joy for each other with their families and best friends on this day.

Michael + Kelly-Ann Michael Barbieri and Kelly-Ann Barruffe were engaged on September 1, 2023, in Wildwood, New Jersey - Kelly's favorite childhood vacation spot. They met and fell in love at Georgian Court College, where they were both attending school. After three and a half years of dating, Michael decided that a spontaneous trip to Kelly’s favorite place would be the perfect way to propose. Walking through the sand, that Kelly remembers as “soft as clouds,” Michael seized the opportunity to get down on one knee when Kelly asked him to help roll up her pant legs. Knelt on the beach, during a beautiful sunset, Michael asked Kelly to marry him, with a photographer standing by to capture the magical moment. They are currently planning their wedding together and are looking forward to a beautiful fall ceremony, in their home state of New Jersey, during September of 2024.

Current + CP It was a magical 3-day celebration for Current Avery D’Ignazio and Christopher Peter Rahe, in Current, Eleuthera (Current’s namesake) which has always been a very special place for her and her family and the obvious destination for where the two would be married. The couples Rehearsal Dinner was held at the iconic Dunmore Hotel. Foraged greenery centerpieces sat on orange and pink table runners Current’s mother made. The bride wore a cream colored Markarian gown adorned with rose gold tinsel, and her grandmother’s copper clip-on earrings with an acrylic clutch in the same tone so all matched. On Friday, Current and CP welcomed guests to The Runaway Hill Inn for a cocktail hour and beach bonfire party with a local DJ and pizza. Current first wore a two-piece floral number from Emilia Wickstead, and then later in the evening opted for a playful lace look – bralette and short set by Houghton paired with an Alessandra Rich button down. For the big day, the couple’s ceremony took place on the beach at Coral Sands – barefoot! The bride went with a non-traditional wedding dress and worked with Lee Petra Grebenau on a custom design. The ceremony and reception were inspired by the pastel town of Dunmore – vintage rattan, pink conch shells and 1970s glamour. Cocktail hour was held on the pool deck at Coral Sands Hotel. Local fashion illustrator, Wayne Head, sketched the guest’s stylish looks, while enjoying a cigar bar and tequila sampling. Dinner took place at the Beach Bar. Menus, name cards, and table cards were designed by Laura Lines Calligraphy and the beautiful white and pink florals were designed by Boy Meets Girl. For an element of surprise & delight Current and CP arranged a Junkanoo rush towards the end of the evening– think an incredibly beautiful an elaborate parade with music, dance, and costumes. The after party continued at Gustys, and the bride changed into a custom floral sequined Markarian minidress and silver Acquazurra heeled sandals. Briland DJ, Jamal Johnson, spun an epic playlist and the infamous Gus (of Gusty’s) sent out burgers to all the guests. It was a night to remember. Photographer and long-term friend Charles Roussel was there to capture all the magic!
Tamsen + Ira Tamsen + Ira are now celebrating their twoyear wedding anniversary. Surrounded by close family and friends that October night, they exchanged vows at the top of Rockefeller Center 620 Loft & Gardens. They wanted it to be a New York City party. There was a fun illustration activation, so guests could take home memories of their night. NYC staple, Dylan's Candy, provided a candy cart to treat their guests to sweets. Broadway royalty Orfeh and Andy sang their wedding song and their wedding planner, Chere Rosalie, tied it all together beautifully. Reflecting back on their special day, Tamsen shares “...it makes me realize how precious every day is and I can't wait for so many more.”

Forever Refined Events
What are you most known for? Since 2011, I’ve been the guiding force behind weddings that transcend the ordinary I’ve helped every single kind of bride under the sun refine what they want, read between the lines of what they want to create and I deeply listen to them, so that guests walk into celebrations saying, “this design totally looks like the couples’ personality.” My portfolio boasts features in Style Me Pretty, Martha Stewart, Brides, Exquisite Weddings Magazine, The Knot, Wedding Wire, and PartySlate.
What do you enjoy the most about wedding planning? What I cherish most is the opportunity to collaborate with couples who entrust me to make their day exclusively about them. I relish deviating from tradition, allowing my creativity to shape an experience that defies norms. I especially thrive on pushing boundaries with out-of-the-box ideas. If you don’t want to wear white, then wear color. If you don’t want to get ready separately then get ready with your fiancé beforehand. The real excitement sets in when I’m challenged with unconventional concepts. From having Tony Robbins officiate once to a porn star wedding with Cirque de Solei performers, even smaller affairs become unforgettable – like a bride walking down the aisle with a 10-people entourage.
When thinking about sensitive political climates and navigating cultural sensitives, what advice do you have for couples facing these? In a world filled with diverse cultures and political beliefs, I approach weddings with the utmost respect for each unique perspective and experience. Everyone holds their own frame of pain, and nothing I do is going to change that for the person. Once, I found myself in an awkward situation when the bride’s family wouldn’t let me hold the Ketubah because they knew I was a Lebanese Muslim. I managed it by putting my differences aside, and reminding all the parties why we were there, and beforehand I preemptively made sure I was educated enough and went into it with an open mind. My advice for couples navigating these sensitive waters is to avoid overemphasizing one culture over the other. For example, if you have Palestine guests coming and you have a blue and white color scheme mirroring the Jewish tradition, you could go with a different theme. Either respect all traditions or choose to not recognize either one. For example, you could go get an officiant instead of an imam or a rabbi. What are some weddings trends you’re incorporating for your clients? A big one is focusing on the guest sensory experience so that they hear good music, feel nice linens, see beautiful lights, and taste great food. Cakes are back. Before you were seeing dessert bars, and now the 3-4 tier cakes are in full force! Dresses are embracing more color in them. Lighting is creating the ambiance of a space. We’re seeing unique favors, such as personalized watercolor art being drawn by artists, which seamlessly integrates into the overall guest experience. What advice do you have for a couple looking to incorporate pets into their big day? Pets and weddings making for the perfect union – a delightful challenge we gladly accept. From creating on-site pet sitting crews to sourcing pet-friendly venues, we ensure furry friends are part of the celebration. A creative touch we’ve successfully implemented is enlarging regal, large-size portraits of the couple’s cherished pets, creating a charming display and enchanting element to the ceremony. Why should a bride hire a wedding planner? Beyond navigating through vendors, venues, negotiations, contracts, to name a few, an essential role of a wedding planner is bringing a strategic approach to budgeting. Might have to skip on flowers or a twinkle light tent? I guide couples in making informed choices that align with their vision without compromising on design, guest experience or budget constraints.
