Dear Speckle Park enthusiasts, Welcome to the 6th annual Summit 3 Speckle Park Sale. This sale represents three highly respected Speckle Park programs: Codiak Acres, River Hill Farm, and new partner Colgan’s Cattle Company Corp. All are leaders in the production of domestic and exportable genetics. Their bloodlines can be found in England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, as well as across Canada. Though the North American cattle market is experiencing some volatility, Speckle Park cattle are in high demand around the globe. Here on the prairies, Speckle-influence steers are being sought by feeders for their profitability when marketed on premium quality grids. This breed also has the uniquely enviable position of tremendous value in the heifer mates; our customers are reporting receiving par or higher prices for Speckle Park-sired replacement females. We see this trend continuing on an upward trajectory as quantity and quality continue to increase in this relatively new breed. Again this year, the sale will be hosted at Codiak Acres’ farm, 10 miles east of Edmonton. As well, we will be using a video sale format rather than moving the animals through a sale ring. We are proud to be celebrating our 21st anniversary of involvement with the Speckle Park breed and 6th anniversary of the Summit 3 Sale. We are looking forward to again partnering with Codiak Acres and our new partner Colgan’s Cattle Company, for what we feel will be an exceptional sale.
Colgan’s Cattle Company is owned and operated by Tony and Tammy Freimark, along with sons Colton and Logan. Colgan’s Cattle Company Corp. was established in 2013 when we made the decision to expand our cattle operation into the purebred Speckle Park industry.
Our bulls have been developed on a high quality hay ration along with a 14% bull grower pellet. In our herd, we strive for performance while keeping our birthweights moderate. The fastest way to increase your profitability in this market is to increase your pounds weaned and quality of your calves, and high quality bulls are a great start.
Over the past couple of years we have had the privilege of getting to know the other breeders in the Speckle Park industry and have received a lot of help and assistance in and out of the show ring. We can honestly say that the people we have met and become friends with are like no others.
As a breed, we need to start to use a measuring stick to determine our best. Breed Plan, SNP testing, and Cattlemax are in our headlights. We believe Corporal is the best son yet of the famous Walker bull. This calf looked the part as soon as he was born. He grew up right and was Reserve Champion Bull at Farmfair as a bull calf. 2-Year-Olds Welcome to the 2016 Summit 3 Sale 2-year-old bull offering. We are very pleased with the genetics these bulls represent, and look forward to seeing them go to work for their buyers. As always, these bulls have been developed primarily on a forage-based diet from birth to 18 months, at which point they come to the yard for a little extra energy to prepare them for breeding. You will notice some condition variation in this year’s group; last autumn, the pasture they were grazing at Chipman caught fire and burned the entire quarter. Fortunately, the bulls managed to escape harm, but it took six weeks to gather them all home. As you can well understand, the stress and the difference in days on feed is visible in the bulls’ performance, but we are very confident in the genetic potential that they will transmit to their offspring.

THE CREW
LAYNE PICKETT has worked for Codiak part time for five years. A special way with livestock makes Layne very valuable in the treating and clipping chutes. If we were able to afford a full time herdsman, it would be Layne. FLOYD WHITNEY has been River Hill’s herdsman for 19 years. He is very dedicated to our farm. Though he may not have been at all the shows and sales in the past years, he has done a lot work with the animals before they come to town. We can be assured things are looked after at home when we are away.
TERMS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable sale day in Canadian Dollars, April 3, 2016, to the producer of the animal(s) purchased. All settlements must be made with the sale clerk before the animals will be released, unless there has been an agreement made between the seller and purchaser prior to the sale. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser at the time of sale. If the animals are not taken home by the new owner sale day, arrangements must be made with the seller on April 3, 2016 for delivery. Animals returning to the seller’s farm must be insured. HEALTH GUARANTEES All bulls and females are guaranteed breeders and in good breeding condition. DELIVERY We are pleased to deliver cattle free of charge within 250 miles, further at cost. Anyone taking advantage of the free trucking must insure their bulls. Free board is offered until June 1, 2016, and at a cost of $3/day thereafter. IN-HERD SEMEN Summit 3 consignors reserve the right to draw semen for in-herd use - at their expense and at the buyer’s convenience - on any bull in the sale. ANNOUNCEMENTS All announcements made from the auctioneer’s stand take priority over printed or catalogued material.
