Take Me Out to the Wedding Baseball Enthusiasts Tim Huber and Paula Hartman to Tie Knot at Tiger Park by Dan Ruud Tim Huber has frequented Tiger Park over the years, both as a youth and an adult. During his years at Belle Plaine High School, he played countless baseball and football games at the facility, as well as many games as a teen and adult as a member of the Belle Plaine town baseball team. He also conducts his annual youth baseball camps at Tiger Park. This Saturday, Huber, 35,

plans to add another chapter to his Tiger Park memoirs – his wedding. Huber, who is head coach of the baseball team at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., is marrying Paula Hartman of Jordan, who taught a number of years at St. John the Baptist Catholic School there, where she is also a 1989 alumni. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1995. In a recent St. John the Bap-

tist newsletter, it states that one of Hartman’s favorite things to do is “hang out with friends at a baseball game – either town ball, college or professional.” “Actually, one of Ms. Hartman’s personal goals is to travel to all the professional baseball stadiums. This is a good goal to have as she recently got engaged to Tim Huber, who is the head baseball coach for Augustana College,” continued the article. Huber and Hartman have been friends since they were teenagers. They are both graduates of Minnesota State UniversityMankato. Huber received his degree in sports management with a coaching minor. Hartman earned degrees in family life, child development and early childhood. Why tie the knot at Tiger Park? “The short story is that we were not allowed to get married in a Catholic church, so this was always Paula’s second option,” Huber said. “She really wanted to get married at her church (St. Johns in Jordan), but because the Catholic Church denied my request for an annulment, that wasn’t an option.” Huber and Hartman have been engaged for about 18 months. The soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. Huber are pictured sharing a Huber has lived in Sioux Falls romantic moment at the ballpark. since becoming head baseball coach at Augustana, where he is beginning his fifth year and has a coaching record of 12390, a significant improvement from where the program was before he got there. Prior to Augustana, Huber was head coach at Dakota Technical College for four years. His overall college

Short Council Meeting Ends With Big Announcement City to Receive $150,000 Grant from Mdewakanton The Belle Plaine City Council addressed one of its shortest agendas of the year Monday night, resulting in a meeting that lasted 11 minutes. It would have been even shorter had it not been for an announcement by Mayor Tim Lies at the end of the agenda – that the city will receive a $150,000 grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC).

In a press release sent earlier in the day on Monday, the SMSC announced that it will provide $900,000 in grants to neighboring governments. The Tribe will provide $150,000 each to Scott County and the cities of Belle Plaine, Jordan, Prior Lake, Savage and Shakopee. Specifically, the grants are for the benefit of local residents as determined by each governmental unit. During Monday’s meeting, Lies read a letter he received from Tribal Chair Charlie Vig. “I am pleased to inform you

that the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is offering the city of Belle Plaine an intergovernmental grant in the amount of $150,000 to be used for capital projects for the benefit of city residents as determined by the city. The SMSC Business Council requests that the city provide the Community a list of proposed projects prior to the funds being released. We would like to know how the grant funds ultimately are used.” The letter then went on to explain that the SMSC “has a long

history of working cooperatively with local units of government in a variety of ways, and our Dakota culture includes a strong tradition of sharing. We offer this grant as a way to continue our good faith effort to work with you on a government-to-government basis and to build and strengthen our relationship based on mutual respect.” The council agreed that it will begin discussing possible projects that the grant could be used
