Legal Notices Legal Notice Scott County has released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for public comment on a proposed aggregate mining operation called Jordan Aggregates Proposed Mining Operation. The project site is located in Section 8 and 17 of Sand Creek Township, Scott County. Copies of the draft EIS are available at the Shakopee and Jordan Library. Copies are also available for review during County Courthouse office hours in the Environmental Health and Inspections Department. This draft EIS is also presented on the Scott County Web site (www. co.scott.mn.us). The comment period will be open from January 21, 2013 through February 20, 2013, as noted in the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board’s newsletter, the EQB Monitor. Publication of the EQB Monitor is scheduled for January 21, 2013. Comments must be received before 4:30 P.M., February 20, 2013, for consideration. Scott County will host a public information meeting from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013, to discuss the Draft EIS. The meeting will be held in the SCALE Regional Public Safety Training Facility at 17706 Valley View Dr., in Jordan MN. Shakopee Schools May Join Effort to Lure Emerson to Scott County
Scott County, the City of Shakopee and the state are hoping the Shakopee School District will join the effort to entice Emerson Process Management to bring 500 jobs to Shakopee. City officials recently made a pitch to the school district to join the effort to meet Emerson’s request for $6 million in tax subsidies. The city wants the school district’s response by the end of February, the Shakopee Valley News reported recently. The company said it would create 500 new jobs at the plant in the never-been-occupied ADC Telecommunications building southeast of Valleyfair
between County Road 101 and Highway 169 in eastern Shakopee. Emerson estimates 300 of the jobs would be in engineering and related fields paying in the neighborhood of $75,000 annually while the remaining 200 would be hourly-wage jobs worth about $38,000 a year. The proposal is for the district, the county and city to abate property taxes for the next nine years on the improved portion of the building as long as Emerson would meet new job creation goals. Its financial adviser, Springsted, estimates the district’s share of the abatement would be just over $366,900
New Prague Saw Big Jump in Single-Family Housing Last Year
The housing market seems to be making a comeback in New Prague. In 2012, the city issued 21 permits for single-family homes. The spike in housing permits almost equaled the number of permits New Prague issued in 2009-11. In 2009, the city issued 13 single-family permits, eight in 2010 and five in 2011. Eleven of the houses were built
on the Le Sueur County side of highways 13/19 in New Prague and 10 were built on the Scott County side of the highway dividing the city. The anticipated value of the new homes built last year approaches $4.2 million, the New Prague Times reported recently. While the city is pleased with the growth, the 21 permits are

The school district is looking at an estimated $14.1 million in building deferred maintenance work at the middle school, the high school and elementary buildings. Topping the list is $11.4 million at Jordan Middle School. The high school needs
$900,000 in deferred maintenance work and the elementary school $1.8 million, the Jordan Independent recently reported. If the district opted against the biggest chink of deferred maintenance, one resident, Pete Giancola, asked whether low interest rates would make a bond referendum for a new school and/or maintenance a plausible option. The United Fire Association recently honored Cologne Fire Chief Chuck Joos for his work on a project to upgrade countywide firefighter paging. The longtime chief was named UFA’s Firefighter of the Year for 2012. After winning a Firefighter Assistant Grant, Joos, the Cologne Fire Department and the City of Cologne led the effort to upgrade the paging system. It provided new pagers for all the firefighters in Carver County, new radio transmitters and the creation of simulcast paging system providing wider notification of emergencies from several tower sites throughout Carver County. Joos was also honored for his long service to the department and city. He was one of two chiefs honored. The UFA also honored Savage Fire Chief Joel McColl with a

If the Jordan School District was to ask the voters to OK a bond referendum, it reportedly planned to do so this spring. But with a search for a new superintendent and addressing building security concerns on the docket, the board chairperson, Director Deb Pauly reportedly considers putting a referendum together a pretty lofty goal.
