CITY OF BELLE PLAINE ORDINANCE 17-06 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING AND REPLACING SECTION 1107.20 OF THE CITY CODE PERTAINING TO SIGNS On Monday, June 19, 2017, the City Council of the City of Belle Plaine approved Ordinance 17-06 a copy of which is available for review and/or photocopying during regular office hours at the City of Belle Plaine, 218 North Meridian Street, Belle Plaine, MN 56011; phone 952-873-5553. Ordinance 17-06 updates existing language regulating signage within the City. The Ordinance describes the purpose and intent of sign standards, defines specific terms, assigns minimum construction and maintenance standards, and provides for non-conforming signs. The Ordinance retains standards pertaining to permits required, temporary signs, prohibited signs, and exceptions to the code. The Ordinance reduces the regulatory burden for dynamic and illuminated signs and establishes standards for multi-tenant and planned unit developments. Standards pertaining to sign size, square footage, height, and number in various zoning classifications are retained. An alternative method of sign plan review for comprehensive projects has been added as have standards defining and allowing for commercial and non-commercial speech.
