at House in NYA A man and a woman were found dead Wednesday afternoon (March 11) at a house in Norwood Young America in what Carver County Sheriff’s deputies are considering a probable murder-suicide. At approximately 5:07 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a death investigation at 920 Preserve Blvd. in Norwood Young America. The reporting party, a roommate at the residence, found the dead man -- Milo Willis Leistiko, 51 -in the garage and immediately called 9-1-1. Deputies arrived and began their investigation. During a search of the residence, they discovered a deceased woman -- Lanaea Ann Harrison, 23 -hidden in a plastic waterfowl decoy bag. She had suffered
a gunshot wound to the head. They also said the man in the garage suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Preliminary investigative information suggests Leistiko and Harrison were involved in a romantic relationship, said Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson. The evidence found at the scene indicates Leistiko shot and killed Harrison and placed her body in a waterfowl decoy bag before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life. The time of death has not yet been determined, but initial information suggests murdersuicide happened on March 11, 2015. This matter remains under investigation by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office and BCA.
St. Peter Schools Voters OK $58 Million Bond Issue Voters in the St. Peter School District granted the request for a $58.6 million school improvement project last week. Fifty-four percent of voters supported the district’s proposal. It passed 2,301 to 1,982. School board members thanked the community for its support. “We’re really pleased with the size of the turnout. We believe the outcome reflects the will of the people,” said Mark Karlsrud, chairman of the St. Peter School Board. Superintendent Paul Peterson thanked the community for its courage supporting the referendum. The referendum’s passage will allow the district to enact long-term solutions for its growth, Peterson said. The St. Peter Herald recently reported the referendum was intended

Appeals Court Says Sibley East Didn’t Break Spirit of State Law A month after it upheld Sibley East’s referendum vote, the Minnesota Court of Appeals issued its opinion supporting that ruling. A three-judge panel ruled against Nathan Kranz’s appeal that the district’s $43.05 million referendum should be nullified is based upon a previous Minnesota Supreme Court ruling, the Gaylord Hub recently reported. The bond will fund a new elementary school in Gaylord and an expanded and renovated secondary building
in Arlington. Kranz, of rural Gaylord, appealed to the Minnesota Appeals Court after a district court rejected his claim. This week in district court, a hearing will be held on whether Kranz should have to pay the school district’s $40,000-plus in court costs. Looking for Warrant Suspects Leads to Man’s Marijuana Arrest A chance meeting outside an apartment on the 100 block of West Main Street has led to criminal charges against a 20year-old Belle Plaine man. Eric Robert Ames is charged with two felony counts of fifthdegree possession of marijuana. Free on a $1,000 bail, he is due in Scott County District Court Monday (March 30). According to the criminal complaint against Ames, a police officer was at an apartment building on West Main Street March 5 looking for subject of arrest warrants. They suspected two of the people were staying in separate apartments in the building. An officer saw a man in the
