H.S. Baseball (continued from page 12) (14-4) hosting No. 8 Le SueurHenderson (6-12) and No. 4 seed Watertown-Mayer (11-6) at home against No. 5 Norwood Young America (11-6). The top seed in the South Subsection is Albert Lea (9-10) and it will take on No. 8 Maple River (5-13) in Friday’s first round. Other first-round pairings in the South Subsection are No. 4 seed Tri-City United (9-9) hosting No. 5 St. Peter (6-12), No. 3 Waseca (9-8) at home against Faribault Academies (8-10) and No. 2 Waterville-ElysianMorristown (11-5) hosting No. 7 New Richland-HartlandEllendale-Geneva (6-11). All second-round games will be played next Tuesday, with third-round action slated for May 28 at the home of the higher seed. From the fourth round on, all games will be played in St. Peter, with the championship set for June 4. Sibley East 2, Tigers 1 The Wolverines scored both their runs in the fourth inning and the Tigers countered with their lone run in the fifth in a 2-1 loss in the first game of Friday’s twin bill in Arlington. Belle Plaine put together a threat in the seventh inning but left the potential tying and winning runs on base to end the game. Ben Wagner pitched the distance for Belle Plaine, allowing two unearned runs on six hits and one walk. He struck out three. “Ben Wagner threw a very solid game for us but it is tough to win many games when you only have five hits and commit two errors,” said Tigers coach Pat Schultz. Joe Hankins had two hits and drove in Belle Plaine’s only run. Wagner added a double, while Dylan O’Brien and Jon Vinkemeier both had one hit. Sibley East 5, Tigers 3 Things started off well for the Tigers in Friday’s nightcap as they doubled their run output of the first game with two runs in the first inning. Sibley East cut the lead in half with a run in

the second inning before catching up and then some with four runs in the fourth. Belle Plaine scored once in the seventh to make the final 5-3. Hankins started on the hill and lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks. Two hits by the Wolverines combined with three Belle Plaine errors accounted for the four-run fourth. Vinkemeier came in to relive Hankins during the inning but the damage was already done. Vinkemeier finished the game, allowing just one hit and recording three strikeouts. Offensively, Hankins and Aaron Mancini both collected three hits, the latter doubling and driving home a run. The rest of the team combined for just two hits – one apiece from Aiden Ladd and Wes Sarsland. “This was a tough night. We never seemed to be able to get anything going at the plate and struggled defensively,” Schultz said. “We are still giving away too many at-bats and need to make sure we work on that in practice and in our final regular season game (next Tuesday). With the playoffs starting next Friday, we need to have a good week of preparation to make sure we are ready.” 2015 BPHS Baseball Results and Schedule Apr. 10 at M. Luth. W 8-1 Apr. 11 B.P. Tigers 27, Sibley East 8 Freshman Taylor Mullen had a career game with five hits in five trips to the plate, four runs scored and seven RBI as the Tigers crushed the Wolverines in the second game, which ended early by way of the 10-run rule after Belle Plaine scored 16 times in the fifth inning. Haller pitched the first three innings for Belle Plaine and was not at her best, nor did she need to be as the Tigers scored early and often. Haller allowed nine hits, four walks and eight runs. Hentges came on to pitch two scoreless innings. The Tigers had 24 hits. Joining Mullen in the onslaught were Johnson (four hits, five runs and three RBI); Koepp (four hits, four runs and three RBI); Hentges (two hits, three runs and five RBI); Witt (two hits, three runs and one RBI); Kaitlyn Paul (two hits, two runs and two RBI); Maddie Haller (two hits, two runs and one RBI); Lark (two hits and two runs); and Mia Pribyl (one hit, two runs and one RBI).
