jessenland township board RE: Farming in the road right-of-way (ROW) The Board of Supervisors has observed some instances where tillage is being done in the ROW. The ROW extends two rods (33 feet) either side of the center of the road and exists in order that the roads may be properly maintained for the benefit of all who use them. Roadside mowing in the ROW is permitted, for the purpose of weed control or making hay, but tillage or crop production is not permitted (M.S.160.2715) as it may adversely affect road structure and maintenance. Anyone who damages or alters the ROW will be held responsible for all costs of restoration. The town board has no desire, or intention to go around checking every field with a tape measure, and appreciated the generally good farming practices of our agricultural producers. However, those places where excessive encroachment has occurred will need to be dealt with. The township may be marking or seeding some area’s going into this fall and next spring and requires that these be left undisturbed. Your full cooperation is anticipated and appreciated. Please feel free to contact any members of the board with question or attend the regular town meeting held the last Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Sincerely, Jessenland Township Board Maynard Rucks, Clerk Published in the Belle Plaine Herald on Wednesdays, October 1 and 8, 2014.

passes for 55 yards on what was a very difficult night to throw the ball. He had one interception. NYA had no pass completions. Jonny Vinkemeier led the Tigers in receiving with three catches for 23 yards. Catching one pass apiece for a combined 32 yards were Paul Nasby, Ryan Wolke, Branden Schulz and Wally Schultz. Freshman Carter Brink rushed 20 times for 132 yards. Narveson kept 11 times for 48 yards and Ben Stier carried once for 1 yard. The leading tacklers for the Tigers were Kincade Retzer (9), Joe Hankins (8), Schulz (5), Vinkemeier (4), Alec Selly (4), Dylan Johnson (3) and Josh Juaire (3). “I was happy with the effort the defense gave – they held one of the better offenses in the MRC in check all night,” said Tigers coach Justin Johnston. “Their three scoring drives were under 100 yards total. Offensively, we made too many mistakes, and that is what we are working on correcting this week. We know as we head into our final two games of the regular season against the top two teams in the conference, we need to play mistake-free football.” The first of those two games will be 7 p.m. this Friday when Belle Plaine hosts Tri-City United on homecoming night

Tigers Fall to Saints in First Round by Dan Ruud The Belle Plaine High School tennis team’s season ended Thursday following a tough 4-3 loss to No. 2 seed St. Peter in St. Peter. The Tigers, the No. 7 seed, finished the season with an overall record of 5-15, which included a 4-3 loss at United South Central in last Tuesday’s regular season finale. Ten of Belle Plaine’s 15 losses this season were by 4-3. USC 4, Tigers 3 The Tigers dropped all four singles matches and won all three doubles contests. Winners for Belle Plaine (No. 1 through No. 3) were Ireland Lambrecht and Kate Schmit (6-3, 6-1); Leah Schaefer and Rachel Schroers (2-6, 7-6/10-7); and Shannon Egan and Sarah Luskey (6-2, 6-3). St. Peter 4, Tigers 3 The Tigers took to the bubble at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter and nearly upset the heavily-favored and second-seeded Saints in a highly competitive match Thursday evening. “The week before, St. Peter easily beat us 5-2 with all four of our singles players losing,

but this time it was a much different story,” said Tigers coach Annette Moylan. Things looked good for Belle Plaine early as the first two matches to come off the court were Lambrecht at No. 2 singles defeating Val Bresnahan 6-3, 6-2, and the No. 3 doubles team of Egan and Luskey winning 6-0, 6-3. At this point, Katlin Sannan (No. 4 singles) battled back from a first-set loss to defeat Alex Gault 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. “Now we had three wins, which was very exciting and very nerve wracking for the St. Peter coach, who thought they would beat us easily,” Moylan said. “Grace (Olson) played her heart out at No. 3 singles and lost a heartbreaker 6-7, 6-1, 4-6.” The Tigers’ other losses came at No. 1 singles, where Jane Schneider fell to Rachel Huber 0-6, 2-6, while the No. 1 doubles duo of Schmit and Schroers lost 4-6, 4-6; and the No. 2 team of Gavin and Schaefer went down 1-6, 0-6. “St. Peter is a good team every year and we have not gotten this close to beating them in the last 10 years. I was very proud
of the way our team fought for every last point,” Moylan said. Individual Tournament A select group of Tigers will return to Gustavus Adolphus College for this Thursday’s section individual tournament.
