November is Life-Writing Month. Have you ever considered writing a memoir or autobiography? You might want to give it some serious thought. While many of us feel that our lives may be too insignificant to bother with such a thing, it is easy to under-value your life experiences. Your descendants may be absolutely thrilled to be able to read about your life. Your life story might fill in a historical puzzle by supplying names, places and dates to researchers of the future. Things that we consider to be trivial may be of great importance years from now. Think about this. Have you ever looked through an old family photo album and wondered who some of the people were? What was the event where they gathered? Why was somebody that you expected to see in the picture, absent from these pictures? When was the picture taken?. It is a shame that nobody wrote that down. The good news is that you do not have to jump into Life Writing all by yourself. Your local library is hosting a program to assist you in your writing. On Thursday November 8, from 6-8 p.m. the Belle Plaine Library is holding a “Writing Life Memories” class. This class helps capture our life memories in written form. Lisa Jamison from Belle Plaine is doing this workshop and has done other workshops here at the library with children. She has been teaching this technique for 4 years now. I promise you will enjoy her presentation and beginning writing your memories. Even if you are not sure about doing any writing, we encourage you to come and see what it all about. It is a wonderful opportunity and it might give you a whole new view on your life and what you might like to pass forward into your family history. For more information, stop by the library for a brochure and sign up. This programs is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. The Adult Book Club that meets here at the Library on the 4th Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. is looking for new members. If you would like to join the club, stop at the library for more information. Our next meeting is on November 29 (5th Thursday this month). The group is reading “Those Who Save Us” by Jnna Blum. Join us for Fall Story Time this Friday, November 2. Our theme will be Family stories.
