Bluffs (continued from page 1) volving Blakeley Township and Scott County. The township is concerned about the loss of property tax revenue. Themig said those concerns are justified and could result in the county agreeing to “work with the township on the future status of some township roads that might serve more of a park purpose in the future.” “Those are conversations we need to continue having,” he said. The other key factor in preserving the land is funding available from the state thanks to tax revenue voters OK’d in the 2008 constitutional Legacy
Amendment. A portion of the tax revenue voters OK’d was intended for land preservation. “This is what Minnesota voters wanted,” Themig said. The Albrecht-Hutchinson family plans to stay on the land as caretakers, a practice that keeps a set of eyes on the land. In August, the Scott County Board approved a land swap with land the county acquired from a bank. The swap allows the family to build a new home on tilled land. The 500 acres is in addition to 121 acres the Minnesota Department of Natural resources purchased from the Kjellsvig family near the Ney Center. Two years ago, the county also acquired 84 acres, a large house and pole sheds from Wells-Fargo Bank.
