Chamber joins council to mark Armed Forces Week

Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce showed its support for the Armed Forces community by taking part in a flag-raising ceremony.

Briege Leahy, the

Chamber’s CEO, joined Hertfordshire County Council for an Armed Forces Week event at County Hall in Hertford. Hertfordshire County Council Chairman Councillor Annie Brewster introduced the ceremony and spoke of the council’s support for the Armed Forces Covenant before raising the flag.

The Chamber, which is a member of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board and supports Hertfordshire Heroes, Reservists and Cadets as well as the Covenant, is involved with Armed Forces Week every year and promotes the Covenant to its members. The Ministry of Defence is also one of its patrons. Briege said: “It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to the Armed Forces and we are proud to support it.” Similar flag-raising ceremonies took place across the country during the week that ran from Monday 20 June and culminated in Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June.

Second generation Herts family business wins Queen’s Award in Jubilee Year

KANE International, the UK’s leading emissions analyser manufacturer for heating and automotive engineers, has received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2022 for its high-quality customer service.

The company was

only one of 50 other UK organisations to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.

Based in Welwyn Garden City since 1963 and employing more than 120 people, the company is a secondgeneration UK manufacturer of test equipment for the heating and automotive industries. The firm was selected for KANE CARE service, its promise to give customers the best after sales service and support or their money back. All emissions analysers must be recertified annually, which causes engineers to lose time and money, especially when their analyser is a few years old and needs more care or replacement parts. KANE CARE guarantees same day service with all-inclusive pricing for KANE analysers up to 20 years old and guarantees KANE analysers receive a 10-year warranty. Jonathan Kane, CEO of KANE International, was proud to have KANE CARE recognised. He said: “I am thrilled KANE received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Year. We are so proud with what KANE CARE promises our customers and honoured to see it recognised by the Queen’s Award. This award confirms KANE continuously innovates to save our customers time and money – only KANE CARE promises the best, fastest and most trusted customer service or their money back.”

Herts Challenger Bank plants trees for the Jubilee

A Hertfordshire Challenger Bank has celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by donating 600 trees as part of a royal initiative.

Redwood Bank is marking

Her Majesty’s 70-year reign by joining the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), a unique tree planting which is encouraging people to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

The first of the 600 trees donated by the bank to Hertfordshire County Showground, based near Redbourn, was planted on Friday, May 20, at a special ceremony attended by Lady Salisbury and the Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss CBE. Redwood representatives Tracey Lester, Head of HR, Andrew Shannon, ESG & Marketing Officer, and Business Development Manager Nicola Blake also attended. Gary Wilkinson, CEO and Co-Founder of Redwood Bank, said: “What better way to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee than by planting 600 trees and contributing to the environment. We are proud to be based in Hertfordshire, we’re proud to be supporting the county’s innovative and agile SME community, and we’re proud of this great county – so it was an easy decision to enhance the county’s showground by donating these trees.” The QGC is encouraging everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates to play their part in contributing to the environment by planting trees. With a focus on sustainability, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations. In August 2022, Redwood Bank will celebrate five years in business after it was launched in 2017. Redwood, a two-time winner of the NACFB Patron Awards, has undergone significant growth over the last two years, and after starting with a team of 12 now employs over 120 members of staff.

Low Carbon Workspaces

Low Carbon Workspaces grants are available from £1,000 - £5,000 to help fund a third of the cost of projects at commercial premises that reduce energy usage or carbon emissions. Fundable projects include LED lighting, solar PV, heating upgrades, and insulation/glazing.

These interventions are a great way for your business

to decarbonise, to save money on energy bills, and to help achieve your net zero goals. Grants cannot be paid retrospectively so it is essential to apply before undertaking work or appointing suppliers.

Low Carbon Workspaces have helped many businesses over the years, one being Danilo Promotions Ltd. Danilo, based in Hertfordshire, secured a £3,837 grant from Low Carbon Workspaces which helped fund the cost of their LED lighting upgrade. As a result, Danilo is now saving £2,586 on their energy bills each year and preventing 4.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide entering our atmosphere. LCW grant funding is a fantastic investment for your business, your staff, and the planet. If you are a business based in Hertfordshire, interested in shielding your business from rising energy costs and benefitting from 1/3rd off the price of energy saving technologies, please contact Olivia Furssedonn, Project Officer for Hertfordshire, using olivia.furssedonn@ngagesolutions.co.uk.
