Tips and tricks for making effective video content for your business marketing
By James McClean Creative Director MC - Media Creative
Video is king! We all know it. In a world of TikTok, YouTube, and streaming services, video is inescapable. Instagram was once a photo sharing platform but now 85% of its traffic is video content. Brands no longer want front page newspaper ads, they want viral video campaigns.
The great thing about this is that we all have a camera in our pockets to get in on the action. It might sound off putting to put yourself on video but numbers don’t lie, videos posted on LinkedIn are 20 times more likely to be re-shared! There is nothing stopping you from giving it a go, but here are a few tips to make sure your videos are the best they can be.
Lighting
Don’t be scared, you don’t need to buy a big lighting rig, just open the curtains or go outside. Once you have lots of light make sure it’s lighting you or your subject properly. Don’t have the light source directly behind you or casting crazy shadows on your face.
Angles
Now that we are all very accustommed to Zoom meetings we are all aware of how off putting it is to be staring up someone’s nose while they are trying to give a presentation. The same applies to your video. Try and make sure your camera is at eye level, not looking up at you and not looking down at you. For your audience, looking you in the eye is a great way to build confidence in your brands message.
Audio
This might sound self explanatory but you want it to sound good. Video content is as much an auditory experience as it is visual. If you are talking to camera/your audience in your videos, do every one a favour and get a microphone. Nothing too expensive just something cheap will do the trick. It will help to eliminate background noise like traffic or the kids next door. It might be a subtle difference but its screams quality.
Audience
Don’t get me wrong, videoing yourself and sticking it online isn’t always the best option. Consider who your audience is and your brand's tone. There isn’t a one size fits all solution. If you are a high end exclusive brand, a high end and high quality video from a production team may be better suited. If your brand is more about community, education or open dialogue with your customers then there is nothing more effective then a wholesome DIY video.
