Helping the next generation get a foot on London’s property ladder Are you worried that your children are being priced out of the capital? You are not alone. With rents and house prices spiralling out-of-control over 85 per cent of London parents doubt that their children will ever be able to afford to live in the city they were raised in. Unite believes that Sadiq Khan has the right policies to help the next generation get on the property ladder.
• Build thousands of more homes, setting a target that half of all new homes built are genuinely affordable to buy or rent • Give ‘first dibs’ to Londoners, rather than overseas investors – building on brownfield public land and using the Mayor’s planning powers to their fullest extent • Create a new type of home for people struggling to rent privately – ‘Homes for London living rent’, where rents are based on one third of average local wages • Build homes for first-time buyers to ‘part buy part rent’ – giving ‘first dibs’ to Londoners who have been stuck renting for over five years

London is a great city – one of the greatest in the world, BUT it is also the most unequal city in the developed world. More than a quarter of Londoners live in poverty, the majority of them in working families. Low wages and soaring housing costs (rents have increased by 19 per cent in the last five years) are making life harder for working people to get by. Now more than ever London needs a Mayor that will stand up for all Londoners – not just the wealthiest few. Sadiq wants all Londoners to have the same opportunities that our city gave him; a home they can afford, good jobs with decent pay, an economy that works for all and an affordable and modern transport system. That’s why Unite is backing Sadiq. 1. Vote Sadiq for London Mayor on 5 May 2016 2. Register to vote – if you’re not registered you can’t vote. It’s quick and easy, go to gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need your national insurance number. You can find this on your pay slip, or on official letters about benefits or tax credits. 3.
