Action on Housing The housing crisis is the biggest challenge facing London today. There’s no quick fix to the damage done by the Tories’ housing policies but Unite believes Sadiq Khan has the right policies to bring about change. • Tackle the housing crisis – building more homes for Londoners, setting a target of 50 per cent of new homes being genuinely affordable to rent or buy • Make sure there is resident support for estate regeneration with full consultation. Estate demolition only as a last resort and where it does not result in a loss of social housing, or where all other options have been exhausted with full rights to return for displaced tenants and a fair deal for leaseholders • Bring forward more land owned by public bodies to allow more homes to be built • Take action on landlords – getting a better deal for renters • Work alongside boroughs to promote landlord licensing schemes to drive up standards • Set up a London-wide not for profit lettings agency ending the rip-off fee for renters

London is a great city – one of the greatest in the world, BUT it is also the most unequal city in the developed world. More than a quarter of Londoners live in poverty, the majority of them in working families. Low wages and soaring housing costs (rents have increased by 19 per cent in the last five years) are making life harder for working people to get by. Now more than ever London needs a Mayor that will stand up for all Londoners – not just the wealthiest few. Sadiq wants all Londoners to have the same opportunities that our city gave him; a home they can afford, good jobs with decent pay, an economy that works for all and an affordable and modern transport system. That’s why Unite is backing Sadiq. 1. Vote Sadiq for London Mayor on 5 May 2016 2. Register to vote – if you’re not registered you can’t vote. It’s quick and easy, go to gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need your national insurance number. You can find this on your pay slip, or on official letters about benefits or tax credits. 3.
