Larson visits Berlin business to promote new job initiative By Melissa Chicker The Berlin Citizen
In order to promote his new manufacturing Job Match initiative, Congressman John B. Larson visited AMCO Precision Tool, March 15, to tour the faculty
and discuss the challenges the company faces in addition to how the initiative may help. The initiative, in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Labor, Connecticut Center of Advance Technology, Capital Work-
force Partners and the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education, began last November. It is designed to link qualified manufacturing job seekers to a manufacturing company with current job openings to develop a connection between the employers and candidates that offer specific skill sets. “There hasn’t been a lot of young blood,” said AMCO Vice President Richard Zovich. “We either have to train internally or get outside help.”

Prepping for Phase II of Veterans Memorial Park By Melissa Chicker The Berlin Citizen
The trending topic was skateboarding, for many interested parties, who came to the Economic Development Commission meeting, Tuesday, March 12 to discuss Phase II of Berlin Veterans Memorial Park. The public meeting was held only to solicit comments from the general public and interested groups concerning the improvements. Len Zielinski, chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission, addressed the commission with the idea of a skateboard area to the park, and asked the commission to look around the state and at other towns with skate parks. “They have been talking about this since 1999,” he said. “It keeps kids off the streets and safe. This location is the last chance and last place that could be considered to put one in.” Commission members brought up the issue of liabilities with the town in case a child was to get hurt and if having someone there to watch the kids and require them to wear See Park, page 12
