Timberlin Golf Course will soon be overseen by a golf commission. The Town Council approved a new ordinance to create the commission at its most recent meeting. “We’ve taken a lot of testimony, we’ve really looked at this issue for quite awhile,” said Mayor Mark Kaczynski.

The town-owned golf course off Southington Road is currently overseen by the Parks and Recreation Commission. “They just don’t have the time and the personnel on the Park and Rec. commission to really spend time up at the golf course,” said Sebastian Senia, a former Parks and Recreation commission member. The 2017 Citizens Police Academy launched Sept. 20 with 12 eager participants. The academy consists of nine weekly sessions giving an overview of the Berlin Police Department’s criminal investigations,

The intent of the program is to provide community members an opportunity to interact with, and learn about, the department. The Citizens Police Academy is coordinated by Lieutenant Christopher Cuici of the Operations Di-

The Police Commission voted unanimously to appoint current Deputy Police Chief John Klett to police chief, and named Lt. Chris Ciuci as deputy police chief during a Saturday morning meeting that also addressed a probe into Klett’s behavior. The vote followed a report on an independent investigation into Klett, who was accused of making inappropriate comments to staff over the course of his career.
